SENATOR BEN MURRAY-BRUCE MAKES COMMON SENSE, PLEASE READ BELOW: Many Nigerians are complaining about the constant fall in the value of the Naira and they blame the Government. But is the government really to blame? In truth, our insatiable appetite for all things foreign is to blame. I always fly Arik Business Class whenever I am traveling abroad except Arik does not fly on that route. Not only is an Arik ticket a fraction of the cost of a British Airways ticket, but the money I pay to Arik circulates in Nigeria and helps firm up the Naira’s value. As I speak to you today, a British Airways Business to London is ₦2,103,666 while Arik Business is ₦551,545 yet our elite still fly BA But though Arik offers an affordable alternative to British Airways and other foreign airlines, our big men prefer to pay double what Arik charges to BA and other foreign airlines for the same services and yet they complain about the value of the Naira. I have Nasco cornflakes and I have eaten Kellogs cornflakes. In terms of nutrition and taste they are almost indistinguishable. Yet our elite who will rather eat Kellogs than Nasco cornflakes, wonder why the Naira is falling! Even something like Quaker Oats can be substituted with corn meal known locally as pap. Obasanjo Farms of Nigeria and other large scale poultry farms have the capacity to provide chicken for the entire nation. Since that is the case, why are we even buying imported chicken? In fact what is wrong if every family in Nigeria has a poultry in their backyard to give them eggs and meat? My steward went to Makoko, which is one of the largest fishing communities in Lagos. He wanted to buy fish and they were selling imported frozen fish! Yet in the very waters in front of them, there exist fresh fish that is more nutritious than the cheap frozen fish they were selling. We keep spending over 1 Billion Naira importing rice when our own farmers are capable of meeting our national demand for rice. But for some reason, Nigerians just prefer to buy imported rice. The imported rice we buy in Nigeria is not as good as our local rice because it has been stored for years in silos and treated with chemicals. Moreover, every time you buy it, your money is going out of Nigeria to service an economy in Asia. The end result is that their currency gains value while ours loses value. Have you ever wondered why European Premiership Clubs are so interested in Nigeria? It is because Nigerians spend billions traveling to Europe to watch their games, buy their merchandise and promote their leagues. Yet, back at home, we would not be caught dead watching our own local league. If we will not spend money on made in Nigeria goods and services, how can we expect our Naira to hold its value and appreciate? Obviously we can not cut ourselves off from the world. No nation is an island, but at least we can fly Nigerian airlines, eat locally produced food and patronize our football league. If we do this, not only will our economy grow and produce jobs for Nigerians, it will also make our goods and services improve in value such that they will be attractive enough to be imported. I bought Innoson vehicles as official cars for my staff. I have never lived to regret it one day. They are comfortable and durable. But most of all, I know that my purchase helps to keep jobs in Nigeria and improve the value of the Naira. I urge you to do the same. We have no other country but Nigeria and it is you and I that will make it what it is. If we buy Naija We Will Grow Naira My name is Ben Murray-Bruce and I just want to make Commonsense!

The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has congratulated his PDP colleague governors of Rivers and Ebonyi States, Barister Nyesom Wike and Dr. Dave Umahi, respectively, on the reaffirmation of their electoral victories today by the apex court, the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Governor Ikpeazu said the verdict of the apex court on the cases of these two governors is a victory for democracy and a vindication of the people’s long-drawn struggle for justice, adding that it is also a tiding of good hope for the two states. He commended the two governors for being the custodian of a divine mandate which represents the will and aspiration of their people and thanked the apex court for ensuring that the mandate remains sacrosanct. Sibrah:Our forefathers proverb cannot be voided, and that is exactly what is happening in Nigeria today! Read the post very well and get the sense, Sen Ben Bruce is trying to share. LEAVE POLICE TO DO THEIR JOB, EFCC AND OTHER OPERATIVES. #LEAVETRASH4LAWMAN |
Ever since President Muhammadu Buahri took over the presidential seat, he has been busy pursuing those that loot Nigeria funds, but what he failed to realize is that - Onye ulo ya n'agba okú anaghi achu oké! The proverb simply means, [He, whose house is on fire does not pursue rat]. But we do not simply mean that he should forget Nigeria fund looters, but all we are saying is that he should focus and think a better way to make Nigeria move forward. Meanwhile, the whole ideal is coming from a Nigerian Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, he advised President Buhari on what to do, to bettering the Nigeria economy, hear him speak; The reason we have a Ministry of Justice and an Attorney General, an EFCC with a Chairman, an ICPC with a Chairman and a Police force with an Inspector General of Police is so that the Commander-in-Chief can focus on the economy. Times are hard. Leave those who have the responsibility to chase alleged looters and thieves to do their job while you focus on steering the economy in the right direction so that Nigerians can have stability in their finances and plan for the future with peace of mind. Don't chase rats when your house is on fire. My name is Ben Murray-Bruce and I just want to make Commonsense! What is your opinion about this? National Chairman of APC, John Oyegun, says God has a hand in Nigeria’s current economic challenges. He said this while speaking to a 15-member delegation of an APC support group, Change Agents Foundation (CAF) in Abuja yesterday January 20th. “I think God has a hand in the current economic predicament of the country. Imagine the sudden fall in the price of crude oil, the mainstay of the Nigerian economy, from its heights in 2014, averaging $112 per barrel down to the current price of $28 per barrel – lower than the $38 per barrel which the proposed 2016 budget is predicated on. It is an object lesson for us. It tells us that we must embrace radical change in our economic model,” he said. Nigeria Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo have clear the doubt about their electoral campaign of N5,000 Cash Transfer, the scheme is well thought out and will cater for thousands of unemployed youths. In an exclusive interview with Channels Television’s, at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, Professor Osinbajo stressed that the cash transfer promised during the campaign of the All Progressives Congress was meant for the poorest in the society and not for the unemployed people, as popularly believed. According to him; “There is a bit of misrepresentation of what it is. “Some people have suggested that we are giving 5,000 Naira to unemployed young people. No! “What we are doing for young people, graduates and the unemployed is the teachers’ scheme as well as the vocational training,” the Vice President explained. He further stated that, government was looking at other aspects of social investments that would tackle the youth employment situation in Nigeria. “Youth employment is very crucial, especially because we know now… with all of the percentages of out of school graduates and undergraduates who have been out of school for a while and have no jobs. “We think that for graduate employment, a direct creation of jobs and the ‘Teach Nigeria’ scheme that will employ 500,000 teachers, will address some of that concern,” he said. Professor Osinbajo, while addressing the challenges of those who were not graduates. He said; “We are looking at investing in that also substantially and how we intend to do that is by this youth employment scheme that will involve a lot of training in vocational skills, entrepreneurship, business methods and all of that”. The European Union has supported a Referendum for Biafra, and has called for such referendum to be carried out within 90 Days. The Lagos State council of the Medical and Health Workers Union on Saturday, said that it would embark on public enlightenment to discourage drinking of garri for now to prevent Lassa fever. Mr Razak Adeofalade, Chairman of the union, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos. According to him, the house rats that cause Lassa fever are mostly in contact with Nigerian most staple food, garri, a cassava product. "We will also be telling them to ensure that their fruits and raw vegetables are properly washed if they must be consumed raw and cook to the appropriate temperature. The whole essence is to enlighten our people because education carries a lot of weight in this whole activity," he said. Information reaching ABA CITY BLOG from the Deputy Cordinator of all Cordinators of the Indigenous People of Biafra has it that the Nigerian government ran away from the court proceedings, they absconded by seeing the calibers of lawyers and the kind of support from Biafrans inside the court. You will recall that the Nigerian government had dragged the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) to court in New York in June 2015, in one of the president Mohammadu Buhari visit to the white house. Due to the share number of Biafran supporters both (Biafrans and non Biafrans) that came out in their hundreds wearing Biafran T-Shirts to show their solidarity in Biafran course. Nigerian government sensing a lost battle on their side, abandoned their lawyer and ran away from New York court and the case was dismissed. “Nigeria ran away from New York court and case was dismissed. We are deliberating a counter suit for damages. There is a large turnout of Biafrans in the court and we are all wearing our T-Shirts” Dr. Clifford revealed. Former Goodluck Jonathan who recently delivered a speech at the Hope Global Forums in Atlanta. Atlanta, Georgia with respect of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., He gave an insight, which all Nigerians should respect him forever. He is an Icon. Read his speech below: I thank the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, for inviting and honoring me today, and especially so, as this invitation comes right about the period when the world stands still in recognition of the selfless sacrifice of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. When we think of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), it is virtually impossible to separate this worthy body from its founder, the late great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, or from epoch making landmark events of the American Civil Rights movement. I am pleased to know that the Southern Christian Leadership Conference is not just one of the great American institutions, it is also one of her more potent vehicles for the advancement of liberty and freedom for all God’s people. For that, I also commend Charles Steele for his leadership and commitment to peace and justice nationally and globally. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s principles of non violent protests played a great part in the independence movement in my native country Nigeria and indeed throughout Africa as a whole. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, made a harsh comment on Biafra agitation, he said that the hope of a Biafran Republic was dead, adding that those involved in the ongoing protests were doing so out of error and ignorance. Sunnews reports. Obasanjo, who spoke in Abuja during a roundtable discussion, organised by Nextier Advisory, a public sector advisory firm, with the theme “Nigeria and the Biafra Agitation”. Patrick O. Okigbo III spearheaded the event. The former president who is known for his blunt remarks, rather urged leaders from the South-east geopolitical zone to call the protesters to order. He said only those who did not experience the Nigerian civil war would embark on such a fruitless exercise. While absolving the Igbo of any blame by voting for former President Goodluck Jonathan in the last general elections, Obasanjo called on President Muhammadu Buhari to prove that Nigeria was his constituency, by acting like God who gives rain to the good and the bad. “No right-thinking person who has experienced the horror of war will ever agitate for more war. Most wars stem from real and perceived injustices and dissatisfaction and invariably wars emanate from a desire to correct or redress such situations. “Our civil war was not any different. But at the end, almost all wars, jaw-jaw takes over from boom and devastation of the gun. That is the path of wisdom, prudence and political sagacity. If the elders abdicate their responsibility to the immaturity, inadequate experience, unrealistic idealism and the frustration of the young, it will no doubt lead to disaster. “The solution is first for elders in the South-east to caution realism and sanity among the youth and for the president to prove that Nigeria is his constituency, he should act like God who gives rain to the good and the bad, just and the unjust, in the world equally as the world belongs to God in totality,” he remarked. The former president, who said he was cautious of getting into a debate on Biafra, said: “The agitation was born in error and ignorance.” He said the agitation had become commercialised, an industry through which some people made money from gullible people. Abia state governor elect, Dr. Alex Otti of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) have said that he will retrieve Abia state stolen funds, started from Senator T. A Orji’s tenure . Otti, who underwent interview with Punch editor, revealed that, anyone that rule Abia state must be accountable, he also clarify the making rumuor that said that Pres. Buhari influenced the Appeal Court. Read interview excerpt below: What accounts for the criticism that trailed your victory at the Court of Appeal? My victory was never criticised by the teeming people of Abia State. Rather, it was a lawyer paid to do a hatchet job and a few handpicked men hired by the Abia State Government that criticised the judgment. Indeed, the judgment was greeted by spontaneous celebrations in all the nooks and crannies of Abia because it reflected the wish of the people. Anyway, the people know who they voted for. They know that they voted for me and that I won the election. It was after 48 hours of the judgment that the state government mobilised and organised the fake protest. It is unfortunate that some senior citizens of Abia, who are on the payroll of the government, were called out to the streets to protest. Senior citizens should live above board. I understand they are trying to protect their means of livelihood. But petitions are not won on the television or on the streets. Given the fact that Ikpeazu had shown his intention to appeal the judgment, the hired elders and co-travellers should have conducted themselves with decorum. I do not see how the Supreme Court would not uphold the judgment of the Court of Appeal because the judgment given by the Court of Appeal was well grounded. There are 1.3 million voters in the state. The Peoples Democratic Party in Abia knew it cannot win the governorship election so, the party isolated three local government areas – Osisioma, Obingwa and Isiala-Nwga – to perpetrate electoral fraud. On the day of the election, they ensured violence in these three LGAs. In the 14 other LGAs of the state, I was leading by over 60, 000 votes and they brought in their thugs and ballot boxes stuffed with fake ballot papers, they filled the ballot papers with fake results and they forced the Returning Officer to reverse himself. Will you probe the Okezie Ikpeazu administration if you emerge as governor? I won’t call it a probe but everybody should be accountable. If there’s evidence that somebody made away with money, our collective wealth, they should return it – as it is being done at the federal level. This is one of the reasons why some people are against me. They may start to return the money before I come on board. Are you going to defect to the All Progressives Congress if you emerge as governor? There’s no law that says everybody must be in the same party. It was the impunity within the PDP that made people defect to the then ruling party. Someone said that the PDP would rule for 60 years, I think he made a mistake, I think he meant 16 years. I do not have any plan to defect. I have respect for APC chieftain, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, because he remained within his party and he built it into a formidable platform despite the intimidations from the PDP. Federal High Court in Abuja has issued for the arrest of Mr. Government ‘Tompolo” Ekpemupolo in connection to a multi-billion naira fraud involving land contracts for the construction of a Nigerian Maritime University (NMU). It will be recalled that on December 10th, 2015 that Tompolo was wanted for questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and had refused to honor their invitation claiming he was in court against the anti-corruption agency. Tompolo, a former Niger Delta militant, had bank accounts belonging to him frozen by the EFCC. According to reports at the time, two companies linked to Tompolo, Mieka Divers Ltd and Global West Vessel Specialists Nigeria Ltd, had their accounts frozen by the EFCC because of their use in fraudulent exchanges. Specifically, the EFCC wishes to question Tompolo about the illicit sale of N13 billion in land from him to the Federal Government. According to reports, the Federal Government wanted to construct the Nigerian Maritime University (NMU) and had diverted public funds through the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to the militant. Mr. Tompolo is reportedly hiding in the Niger Delta creeks; he rejects any insinuation that the land deal was fraudulent asking EFCC to contact former President Goodluck Jonathan for clarification. http://saharareporters.com/2016/01/12/court-orders-arrest-niger-delta-militant-tompolo-connection-n13-billion-land-fraud http://abacityblog.com/2016/01/n13-billion-fraud-court-orders-immediate-arrest-of-niger-delta-militant-tompolo/
