Crime › Many Killed, Houses Burnt As Two Ebonyi Communities Clash by MrCover(op): 6:30pm On Jan 19, 2025 |
Many people have been killed and at least ten houses burnt beyond recognition in Ndieguzu Agalegu Omege community in the Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
DAILY POST gathered that many people were injured after persons suspected to be hoodlums attacked the community.
The crisis allegedly erupted between the people of Omege Agalagu and Ukwuinyima.
Details of what led to the clashes are still sketchy but a source in the community said the crisis is as a result of a fight that happened in November 2024 when they buried one woman that was allegedly raped and killed.
“More than 10 houses and property worth millions of naira have been burnt to ashes. The government needs to do something,” the source said.
When contacted, Police public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu confirmed the incident to DAILY POST on Sunday.
The spokesperson said the police is maintaining order in the area and has also launched an investigation.
Commissioner for Information in Ebonyi State, Jude Chikadibia Okpor, said the Command is aware of the incident and is doing its best to control the crisis.
He said: “It was a misunderstanding between two youths from the villages you mentioned that degenerated into a free-for-all fight and resulted in the unfortunate incident.
“However, it has been brought under control.” Source: https://dailypost.ng/2025/01/19/many-killed-houses-burnt-as-two-ebonyi-communities-clash/

Crime › Ondo Police Recover Stolen Babies From Anambra, Arrest Suspects by MrCover(op): 2:25pm On Jan 19, 2025 |
A child trafficking syndicate that specializes in stealing children from Ondo and Osun States have been arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command.
The suspects, Lukman Isiaka, 43; Abosede Olanipekun, 23; and Sabira Izuorah, 68, were apprehended with no fewer than 14 babies and toddlers that had been trafficked to Anambra State since 2023.
The babies and toddlers were recovered from the ‘orphanage’ of Izuorah in Ihiala, Anambra State, where they were trafficked to by Lukman and Abosede, who are both a couple.
Among the stolen babies were three weeks old, two weeks old, and two months old, among others.
While being paraded at the police headquarters in Akure, Izuorah, who claimed to have retired as a Director from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Anambra State, admitted to having received the children from the couple.
“Lukman and his wife brought a total of 11 children to me. I don’t pay them; it is the adoptive parents that pay them. The adoptive parents don’t pay me; they give us food items and supplies.
“I stopped Lukman and his wife from bringing children for me in November, 2024. All the children were no longer with me, but I went to recover them from their adoptive parents. It didn’t start with me, and it will not end with me.”
On his part, Lukman, stated that Izuorah introduced him and his wife to the illicit trade when he left Ondo State to work in Anambra as a bricklayer.
According to him, Izuorah always pays him N500,000 per child, which she in turn sells to her prospective buyers for N1 million and above.
“I have been stealing children since 2023. I have given a total of 11 children to Izuorah. The method my wife and I use to steal the children is when we are going, and we see any child roaming about, we now call them that we will buy soft drinks and biscuits for them.
“She normally gives us N500,000 for each child that we bring to her. I met Izuorah when we went to Anambra to work. I’m a bricklayer. She was the one who introduced me to the business after training me, and since then I have been giving her children.
The Commissioner of Police in the State, Wilfred Afolabi, stated that the arrested couple led the police operatives to Anambra State, where Izuorah was arrested and moved down to Akure.
“During interrogation, the suspects admitted to abducting the child and other children from Ondo and Osun States and selling them to Sabira Izuorah, ‘f,’ age 62 years, in Ihiala, Anambra State, at the rate of One Million Naira (₦1,000,000) per child.” Source: https://dailypost.ng/2025/01/19/ondo-police-recover-stolen-babies-from-anambra-arrest-suspects/

The Ogun State police command said that its officers attached to the Sakura Division, Sagamu, have arrested one Abdullahi Sodiq, a street urchin, for allegedly engaging in sharp tricks of dispossessing people of their valuables, especially women. The arrest of Sodiq on Thursday was said to have come on the heels of the order of the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, who has ordered an intensive raid against the criminal-minded residents of the state. The state police command spokesman, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement sent to journalists on Friday. The suspect was reportedly picked up by the police operatives while patrolling the area with a black nylon bag, an iPhone 12 Pro Max, travel documents, a house key, and several other documents. Sodiq was said to have been unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the items found with him, which were later found to belong to one Iyabo Ogunubi, a victim of the criminal escapades. The statement partly reads, “Officers of the Sakura Police Division have apprehended a street urchin who engages in sharp tricks to rob unsuspecting people, particularly women, of their possessions. “In response to the orders from CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, for intensive raids to eliminate criminals and prevent potential crimes. “On January 16, 2025, at about 7:30 pm, while on patrol, the Sakura Divisional Police Officer encountered one Abdullahi Sodiq, a male with no identifiable address, in possession of a black handbag belonging to a woman. Inside the bag were an iPhone 12 Pro Max, travel documents, a house key, and several other items. “During questioning, Abdullahi Sodiq could not explain how the bag came into his possession satisfactorily. “A follow-up investigation revealed that the rightful owner of the bag was identified as Iyabo Ogunubi, who had previously had it stolen by Abdullahi. “The case will be taken to court, and the police are urging the public to prioritise the security of their valuables.” Source: https://punchng.com/police-nab-street-urchin-with-stolen-goods-in-ogun/

Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers in the early hours of Wednesday killed a fresh graduate of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot- Osurua, in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state.
The student, a computer science graduate identified as Prince was awaiting mobilisation for the compulsory National Youth Service Corps programme when he was killed by the hoodlums.
A polytechnic community source told our correspondent in Uyo, that the deceased was shot in front of his girlfriend in his room at about 1 am on Wednesday along Abuja Street, in Ikot Osurua community.
The source who pleaded anonymity revealed that the gunmen gained entrance into the compound, moved straight to the room of the victim and shot him in the stomach leaving him in a pool of blood.
According to the source, the deceased’s girlfriend immediately raised the alarm which attracted the neighbours to come out, adding that he was rushed to the hospital for treatment where he was confirmed dead.
“The gunmen didn’t steal anything from the house. They did not even rob anybody in the compound. They just shot him and escaped.
“I met the victim yesterday at about 4 pm with his girlfriend. Both of them wore facemasks. Jovially, I asked them why they were dressing in that manner. We all laughed.
“The victim was very popular in the neighbourhood and a strong member of a choral group in his church. We are shocked by the way he died,” the source added.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Timfon John, when contacted confirmed the incident but added that there were robbery and cult operations in the area where the victim’s compound was robbed while the student was shot dead.
“Information at our disposal is that there were robbery and cult-related operations in the area. They invaded and robbed where they shot somebody who was later identified as a student but an investigation is ongoing,” John said. Source: https://punchng.com/gunmen-kill-aibom-poly-fresh-graduate/
