Crime / Man Lands In Kano Police Custody After Attempted Suicide by MrCover: 10:07pm On Mar 13
A Yet-To-Be-Identified Man has been taken into the police custody in Kano after he reportedly attempted to strangle himself.

It was learnt that the man was found along State Road, a few metres away from the State Government House.

According to passersby, some unknown thugs had attempted to strangle the man with a cable, but the police faulted the claim.

He was said to have been rushed to the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital (MAWTH) for urgent medical attention.

The Spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said on Tuesday that the man had been taken into the police custody and after scrutiny, he confessed to having tied the cable to his neck.

“After we took him to the hospital, he had spoken the truth. Nothing has been collected from him. In fact, he tied the cable to himself. He is now in custody of the police,” Kiwaya wrote on his Facebook Page.

The Police In Ondo State have arraigned a 24-year-old man identified as Peter Adebayo for allegedly killing his friend, Lekan Raji, with a cooking gas cylinder after consuming hard substances known as colorado.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, told the Akure Magistrate court that the defendant committed the offence on February 23, 2024, at Ireakari Street, Akure. Adebayo was said to have hit Lekan on the head with the cylinder for querying his behaviour.

The Deceased came home on that day and was not happy with the way the defendant was misbehaving. So, he challenged him. But the defendant who was under the influence of ‘Colorado’, hit the deceased with the cylinder. So, he fell and died.” the police prosecutor said

The Offence, according to the charge, contravenes Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 Vol. 1 of Ondo State 2006.

Plea of the defendant was not taken and the prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The Presiding Magistrate, T. O. Olusola-Olujobi ordered the remand of the defendant at the Olokota Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to March 19, 2024.

Crime / Enugu Lawyer, Eli Ugwu, Shot Dead In Kogi After Delivering Ransom To Kidnappers by MrCover: 8:14am On Mar 13
A senior lawyer in Enugu State, Barr Eli Ugwu has been shot dead.

The incident has thrown the entire people of Nsukka into deep agony.

Information reaching DAILY POST shows that the legal practitioner was shot dead in Kogi State shortly after delivering ransom to kidnappers who abducted his cousin.

There are, however, controversies trailing his death.

Initial claims had said he was shot by the kidnappers after delivering the ransom.

A Facebook User, Senator Chijinkem Ugwuanyi wrote on his timeline: “A part of us is Gone! He was shot dead in Kogi state while trying to pay ransom for his kidnapped cousin.

“The story is not clear since yesterday but this is the much we know at the moment.”

However, emerging reports now say Ugwu was shot dead by policemen as he was coming out of the bush, alongside his cousin upon his release by the kidnappers.

A senior lawyer, who does not want his name in print told DAILY POST on Tuesday that Ugwu was shot dead by policemen after delivering ransom.

He has already successfully delivered ransom and was coming out with the victim when policemen shot them.

“Eli was shot dead but his cousin (the kidnap victim), is responding to treatment. It’s a huge blow,”
he said fearfully.

Eli, until his death, was a strong member of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Nsukka branch.

The Kogi State Police command is yet to issue any statement on the incident.

Crime / Two Arrested For Killing Friend In Jigawa by MrCover: 8:06pm On Mar 12
Operatives Of The Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested Hamim Auwalu, 26, and Ashiru Muhammad, 24, on the alleged murder of a victim identified as Tahir Adamu Hassan of Gida Dubu Yadi, Dutse LGA, Jigawa State.

The spokesman of the command, ASC Badaruddeen Muhammad, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital.

He said their arrest was prompted by a complaint lodged by the father of the victim, who reported at the NSCDC Divisional Office, Dutse, that on Saturday, March 2, 2024, his son Tahir left home but didn’t return. However, before leaving home, he told his mother that he was going to his friend’s shop to do some carpentry work for him.

Thereafter, all efforts to reach him via his phone proved abortive, as the phone was switched off.

Upon receipt of the information, NSCDC personnel swung into action, tracked down the friends who called him and brought them to the command for interrogation.

He said that upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to having killed their friend.

According to their confession, they intended to kidnap him and contact his family for ransom after knowing that his retired father had received his retirement benefits.

However, they took him to a Pure Water Factory (MJ Namaliya) at the same address, but later they realised their mistake and decided to kill him to avoid being arrested afterwards. They allegedly used an axe and stones to kill him and thereafter buried his remains in the table water factory.

Subsequently, on March 6, 2024, the NSCDC investigation team, drawn from the Intelligence and Investigation and Medical units, as well as medical personnel from Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital Dutse and the relatives of the victim, went to the crime scene, where the body was exhumed.

But before the body was handed over to the family for burial, it was taken to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital Dutse for full-scale medical examinations to ascertain the true cause of his death.

The Suspects have been arraigned in court for prosecution.
