Men of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended two suspects for using fake bank transfers to buy clothes worth N220,000 in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state. The suspects are Opeyemi Ibrahim and Dimeji Bakare.
The Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST on Wednesday, said the fake transfer was detected at the scene and an alarm was raised.
Odutola noted that the incident was reported to the Oru-Ijebu division of the command by one Christopher Chukwuma.
She said: “The Divisional Police Officer of Oru-Ijebu, on Monday at about 11:30 am, received a case of obtaining goods under false pretences from one Christopher Chukwuma of Ijebu North Local Government Area.
“The suspects, Opeyemi Ibrahim and Dimeji Bakare, were apprehended for fraudulently purchasing clothes worth N220,000 using fake bank transfers.”
According to her, on further investigation, it was discovered that one of the suspects had, in 2023, committed a similar offence by purchasing generators valued at N140,000 using fake transfers.
Odutola stated that the items were recovered and further investigation is underway for more discoveries.

A 30-Year-Old Man, Adeniyi Akinpelu, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing pigs.
The defendant whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between October 12, 2024 and Dec. 3, 2024 in Ado-Ekiti.
He said the defendant stole five pigs that were kept in his care.
According to him, the pigs belong to the complainant, one Mr Balogun Opeyemi.
Apata said the offence contravened Section 302 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant the defendant bail with a promise that he would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

Operatives of the Onipanu Division of the Ogun State police have arrested a 59-Year-Old security guard, identified as Olaitan Matthew, for the alleged theft of electric motor parts belonging to a company he works for. Matthew, who works with Land Star Company, located in Tomori, Animashaun Estate, in the Ota area of the state, was arrested at about 4:30 am on Wednesday.
The suspect was apprehended by the anti-crime team of the division when he failed to provide an adequate explanation of how he obtained the motor parts.
Confirming his arrest to DAILY POST, the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the suspect, after several questions, confessed to stealing the parts from the company while production was temporarily halted.
Odutola said: “On January 15, 2025, at about 4:30 am, the Anti-Crime Team of the Onipanu Division apprehended a 59-year-old security guard named Olaitan Matthew at Land Star Company, located in Tomori Estate, Animashaun Estate, Ota.
“He was found in possession of electric motor parts, and he was unable to give satisfactory answers on how the items came into his possession. When he was further pressed, he admitted that they had been stolen from the very company he was employed to protect.”

The Naira today depreciated to N1,740 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,739 per dollar on Thursday.
However, the Naira appreciated to N1,601.2 per dollar in the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market, NAFEM.
Data from FMDQ showed that the indicative exchange rate for NAFEM fell to N1,600 per dollar from N1,601.2 per dollar on Thursday , indicating N1.2 appreciation for the naira.
The volume of dollars traded (turnover) in the official market increased by 23 percent to $284.93 million from $230.99 million traded on Thursday.

Panic has engulfed Elewuro, Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State following the brutal murder of a 30-Year-Old Man identified as Delo. His lifeless body was discovered in his room on Wednesday evening, October 16, 2024. Sources indicated that Delo was in his room at the time of the incident, although the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
Concerns arose when Delo’s brother knocked on his door repeatedly but received no response. Alarmed tenants opened a window, only to find him motionless on his bed. The Fagun Police Division was notified, and upon arrival, officers forced the door open, revealing bruises on Delo’s face, neck, and other areas of his body. Delo’s brother was arrested after police discovered Delo’s phone in his possession prior to entering the room. Subsequently, officers transported Delo’s remains to the morgue.
The tragic news of Delo’s death has sent shockwaves through the community, with family and friends visibly distraught. A Police source confirmed that an investigation is currently underway. A 46-Year-Old Teacher At Maguya Day Secondary School In Chipata District In Zambia has allegedly committed suicide by taking unknown poisonous substances. Panford Mweetwa, who was recently transferred from Nsanjika Day Secondary School to Maguya left behind a written note stating that "he had been working very hard but had nothing to show what he had achieved" and further indicated on how his money is to be shared.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Mwami turn off.
Eastern Province Police Deputy Commanding Officer Stephen Mayoko who confirmed the incident to the media on Friday, July 5, explained that the deceased told his wife that he was going into Chipata town, howeve, around 10pm, Mr. Mweetwa was found unconscious.
He was rushed to Katandala clinic for treatment but was later referred to another hospital where he was admitted. Whilst being treated, the deceased who was able to talk revealed that he had taken unknown poisonous liquid to end his life. He died the same day.
The body is still in the mortuary awaiting burial.
