You actually have a big point here as an igbo man when I listen to an average ika person speak I hear the combination of both the bini and igbo languages there's absolutely no arguments about this as a neutral observer.

If the Itshekiris are always proud of their Yoruba root, and there are verifiable facts establishing the Bini royalty has of Yoruba descent, why should anything confuse you again?

Am confused because of past public pronouncements from the binis themselves that claimed yorubas originated from the bini kingdom and not the binis originating from the yorubas.

Read up on Ajayi Crowther and how he got the Igbo language from many ethnic groups in the SouthSouth, mostly Ika, and combined them. Just educate yourself on your real history.

Go and sit down somewhere with ur useless propaganda how can ur ajayi crowther a yoruba man write the igbo language we read today? He was only known to have visited igboland for a very short time as a missionary and wrote what he believes is his own understanding of the igbo language at that abscure time when there wasn't much known igbo written literature that was available. The recognised igbo written language we know today was put together in the early 90s by a committee of igbo people that came together from various igbo communities in igboland to draft it, it was even the orlu dialect in imo state that was later adopted. So be educated and guided on this and stop spreading useless propaganda on nairaland to suit ur useless narratives which is mainly designed to mock the igbo nation.

There was a time I saw a documentary of itshekiri people that came from one part of ijebu water side orso. But they don’t identify as Yoruba.
The word “yoruba” itself is recent. The “Igbo” might be recent too.
Reason why people want to identify with their ancient identity than the recent word.
For instance “awori” people of Lagos I identify themselves base on the story that their first settlers settled where “awo ri” meaning where the plate sank. The name is more ancient than the “Yoruba” name. Ijebu call themselves that name too and no one knows the origin of the word “ijebu”.
These are just ancient names, sometimes Ijebu will say they’re not Oduduwa they’re from oluiwa and they’re Ijebu.
So people prefer identify with their ancient identity

The itsekiris has always claimed to be a proud sub group of the yorubas but I get confused when they still claim that their first king that founded the itshekiri kingdom was a bini prince that left the bini kingdom in the 15th century.
