Politics › Re: Ohanaeze Joins Southwest, South-south, Northcentral In Backing Tinubu Tax Bills by Mrexcell(m): 1:33pm On Dec 03, 2024 |
Macphenson: One of the most controversial issues in this Tax Reform Bill is that 60% of VAT will be given to the state it was collected from, It seems by this it will only favour mostly Lagos and Rivers State to the detriment of the Northern states who are collecting more VAT based on population.
Here is my concern, Lagos state was deliberately made the commercial headquaters of the Nation to the detriment of other states the more reason it collects more taxes.
Practically, All the cars entering the country pays their tax to only Lagos state. Even the cars to be used in Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta and Cross River states. Now this is not fair to these states as they have their own seaports but cars are not entering them, the taxes they are supposed to get as a state goes to Lagos state.
Also, Telecom companies pay their VAT in Lagos because their headquaters are located in Lagos, If this new bill is passed, that is no longer fair to all other states where the Telcom companies operate. Telcom companies should now start paying VAT to each state they operate as you can no longer rob Peter to pay Paul.
Oil companies have their headquaters located in Lagos while they operate in different states especially in the Niger Delta. This will no longer be fair if the bill is passed becaused those states where the oil companies operate will start demanding that the oil companies pay thier VAT in those states they operate.
The truth is this bill if passed, is seriously going to open litany of issues which I dont think at the moment the bill captured or resolved it.
Another dangerous dimension, this may prompt the oil producing states to start demanding for 60% of the oil revenues from their respective states, once this happens, chaos will reign supreme in the country. Oil producing states should get more than 60%. |

HenryWilliams: Listen . No country will just willingly allow a part of itself divide or secede just like that especially when it's not in the Constitution. The Almighty US is battling secessionist tendencies in the deep South talking about Texas, California etc. Their Union isn't forced but the US preaches they are stronger together than apart . Why did the UK go to war against Argentina in the early 80s over Falklands Islands? To be honest , the SE has little or no economic importance to the Nigerian Union,. You yourselves as Igbo also know this hence the millions of you working and living outside your region spreading like parasites and viruses.. The best thing is for you people to relocate en-masse back to your enclave and develop your micro economy within Alaigbo If nigeria is really serious about letting the igbos go it will definitely change it's constitution to allow that to happen Malaysia has done it before so why can't nigeria? Stop the unnecessary hate and envy in ur soul for the igbos they are not constituting any nuisance or forcefully taking any lands from the rightful owners like some ferocious tribes usually does openly in nigeria. Igbos are well known worldwide for their industrious and progressive nature and will definitely survive and progress when they are on their own. Many countries without any much significant natural resources or access to the sea are doing far better than nigeria in all areas of human development the most important thing is the quality of human resources that is available which the igbos have in abundance. Any sane person reading ur write up can clearly see the deep hate embeded all over it unfortunately it's actually not the reality about the igbos. |

We have 360 members and only 48 rejected the bill, it's a done deal already. They don't have the numbers even when the north west joins them. |

UltraSolid: You people keep saying this "they won't let us go" garbage for the past 60 years that constitute the main reason why no one takes you seriously. You claim they don't allow you to go your way when you are over 10 million permanently domiciled in the SW and Lord knows how many in the North?
When you make it clear, with your migratory preferences that you prefer to relocate permanently to the land of other, then that reality only shows sensible adults you are liars when you insist you want your own independent nation of Biafra.
Buhari deliberately called you lot "dot in a circle" to highlight how an irrelevant and socio-economically worthless people make noise despite being a dot in a circle total reliant on others and drawing their existentence on the money they make from their presence outside the SE.
Don't change that sad reality then people will only see you lot as noise-makers and gaslighters who ignore reality to talk senselessly. If you are mostly domicledd in the SE, with your sustenance not reliant on others as is the case with Yorubas, then others may bee afraid when you threaten to leave the unholy Union.
As things stand, and with the way Igbos themselves live, boarding buses in their thousands daily to relocate away from the SE, you lot only look like impotent and decietful noismakers not to be taken seriously. It still doesn't change the fact that the nigerian state is somehow scared of letting the igbos go for reasons best known to them. If the igbos are actually parasites or irritants why is nigeria still deciding to keep them at all costs when they have all the means in their disposal to kick them all out of nigeria like the way Malaysia did to Singaporeans years ago? Saying that all the igbos should first relocate to their region before nigeria will decide to allow them to go doesn't make any sense to me. |

UltraSolid: What valuable things does the SE have to blackmail Nigeria with? You have to be someone crucially important to get people's attention and subservience in life.
Igbos and their five plots of land have no value. Therefore the entire Nigeria has always been happy for them to rant impotently, day in and day out, for decade now.
When Buhari called them "Dot in a circle" people is that not direct proof that those who lead Nigeria view Igbos as socio-economically worthless? So why are they not allowing the dot nation to go their way if truly they are that worthless? Look at the extremes the nigerian state goes to to keep the igbos in nigeria. |

RealGandalf: I so much like these proposals.
1. All state governors will have to start thinking outside the box. Like some will have to create wealth out of whatever resources they have in their domain.
2. The center (presidency) will be a little unattractive considering the resources that will be available to the governors.
3. Only smart minds will aspire to be governors. Chances for dunces will be reduced.
4. Fanaticism will drastically reduce as each state will try to make their domains peaceful, hospitable and investment friendly.
5. More ministries and agencies for the states.
6. I love the technical restructuring that Tinubu is doing. The born to rule mentality has to stop.
7. Some states will now have to look for ways to control their population. Enough of almajiris in the name of having voting power during elections. The core north will now have no choice but to make their states peaceful and friendly for economic activities northern empty politicians that uses insecurity to rise to power will now look for alternative peaceful ways to capture power. |

States like Borno, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Kebbi and the likes how do they get money if federal government refuse to short change Lagos for them.
As scary as it sounds, na now we go know parasite 🪱
Let's see how things unfold. Lagos is an artificial creation when there's full resource control and regional govts where there will be no longer room for dirty politics to monopolise ports operations and the siting of headquarters of multinational companies other states u feel are parasites will automatically become more productive and economically more viable. No state in the south is a parasite or without natural resources is just the dirty nigerian politics that hindering their economic growth. |

For years Naija delta has been producing oil and only gets 13% of that funds. And we call it national cake.
Now immediately yoruba man saw that Lagos state n few other states like oyo are bringing in more VAT they quickly want to introduce Bill to keep everything to themselves.
VAT is our national cake n should be shared for even development Very correct the 13% should be increased the cheating is just too much. |
