You might need to format if you want to use twrp.

Make a backup via TWRP and save it on USB OTG or SD card.
From the WIPE menu select ADVANCED
Select everything (except for USB OTG and MicroSD, that is where your backup is) and then Swipe to Wipe. Restore the backup you made.

Or

Try another recovery like orange fox or redwolf


Don't forget to flash no-verity-opt-encrypt zip

I have been able to root but I can't flash camera 2api as the recovery still asks for password. Anyway around that?

I did everything. After i flash twrp via fastboot it asks for password which is always incorrect, very annoying
