PoliticsRe: 'I Am Leaving Nigeria As A Hero'‚ Jacob Zuma Gushes After Massive Statue Of Him by MrHenshaw: 4:03pm On Oct 17, 2017
FlirtyKaren:
South Africa President Jacob Zuma has said he was at a loss for words after a giant statue of him was unveiled in Imo state.

You recall, Nigerians were flabbergasted when everyone woke up last Saturday to a giant statue of Jacob Zuma standing tall in Owerri, Imo state.

Rochas Okorocha‚ billionaire‚ education philanthropist and governor of the Imo State‚ had unveiled the bronze statue, named a street after Zuma, conferred him with a chieftaincy title and then the highest Merit Award in Imo state during his two-day visit to Nigeria which concluded on Sunday.

According to the Imo state government, Zuma's visit to Nigeria and to the state was to “strengthen socio-economic relations and deepen cooperation in education.”

Speaking about his visit, Zuma said he was at a loss for words:

“I walked in here‚ as I say‚ as an ordinary freedom fighter. I’m leaving Nigeria‚ through the state of Imo‚ as a hero. What a decoration.”

The giant statue of Jacob Zuma in Owerri, Imo state had sparked outrage among Nigerians who, according to Okechukwu Nwanguma‚ national coordinator of the civil society Network On Police Reform in Nigeria (NOPRIN)‚ were not informed about the statue.

“We just woke up to the news of the unveiling of the statue.”

Zuma's two-day visit to Imo state happened just as South Africa's Supreme Court ruled that he should face corruption charges.

Local media reported that the cost of the humongous statue Rochas erected for Jacob Zuma was around 520million Naira -- equivalent to $1.4 million.

President Muhammadu Buhari invited a 10-year-old girl named Aysha Aliyu Gebi from Bauchi state to the state house in Abuja after her letter requesting to see him surfaced online, along with two other little girls. The president hosted three of his young admirers at the presidential villa, Abuja. The three kids spent about 30 minutes with the president Monday morning.

The three children; Nicole Benson, from Lagos, Maya Jamal from Abuja and Aisha Gebbi from Bauchi have shown their support for the president in different ways.

According to reports, Ms. Benson, a nine-year-old pupil of Greensprings School Lekki in Lagos, made headlines prior to the 2015 presidential election when she donated her lunch ticket to then candidate Buhari as her contribution to his presidential campaign.

Maya Jamal, the three-year-old daughter of a popular social media user, “White Nigerian” was seen in a 10 second video praying for the quick recovery of Mr. Buhari while he was in London receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

Aisha, who is a 10-year-old from Bauchi, penned a letter seeking a face-to-face meeting with the president, which was posted by her niece, Huseini Gebi, asking for a retweet to make her dream a reality. The letter caught the eyes of President Buhari’s personal assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmad, who showed the President over the weekend and he has asked for her to come and see him.

PrettyCrystal:
Despite being heavily criticized by a Muslim group after he dressed up as an Imam to join Muslims for prayers during last Sallah celebration in Ekiti, governor Ayodele Fayose was spotted with Muslim faithfuls during Jumaat prayers on Friday (yesterday).

As part of the activities line up for the celebration of 3years anniversary of Governor Ayodele Fayose in office, the governor today performed Jum'at service with Ekiti Muslim faithfuls.

Fayose who is a Christian governor, prayed along with others at the Central Mosque in Ado Ekiti state.

For inexplicable reasons, the governor shocked the world on the last Muslims celebration on September 1, 2017 when he appeared in full regalia, including a turban as an Imam, at the venue of the event in his state.

Apart from the controversy stoked by the costume, Fayose also used the ground to make some strong political statements that were condemned by the Muslims Rights Concern, MURIC, headed by Islamic scholar, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

Proud Nigerian husband wakes wife up with breakfast in bed, says her smile is his biggest reward (photos

Cross River state born lawyer, First Baba Isah woke his wife Juliet, up this morning with breakfast in bed. Sharing photos of the happy wife on Facebook, he wrote;

"Before rushing out for a meeting at EFCC this morning... I sneaked into the kitchen, made our breakfast and brought it to Firstlady on bed... I woke her up to breakfast on bed.

Loving this woman is part of the FBI Brand.

I don't want to be known as that lawyer who gave everything to defend his clients while sacrificing the happiness of his wife. As I head to EFCC to defend a client, I'm glad I left a happy wife behind. I'm sure as she goes about her own work today, she will wear that smile she flashed me this morning.

That smile is my biggest reward, my exceeding miracle. Without that smile no amount of legal fees can make me happy.

When I'm done here and stand before God on judgement day and I'm asked what I did with my life, I want to be able to say I spent it as a good lawyer defending people and fighting for their rights... But before I say that, I want to say: "I spent it loving Juliet."

Dear Juliet, I love you. May your smile bring my client favour in EFCC today and may that favour bring us fortune...

PoliticsRe: Over 50m Northerners Living In Poverty — Gov Shettima by MrHenshaw: 9:51am On Oct 12, 2017
Stingman:
By Joseph Erunke ABUJA—

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, yesterday, said over 50 million Nigerians of northern extraction live in poverty. The governor also lamented that the region was faced with five most serious problems, which he enumerated to include low literacy, poverty, poor healthcare, unproductive population and bad economic position. Gov Kashim Shettima of Borno State. Shettima, who is the Chairman, Northern Governors’ Forum, said he relied on recent research data released by experts, which indicated that of the 79.6 million Nigerians living in poverty, over 50 million of them, representing about 70 per cent, live in the 19 northern states of Nigeria.

To this end, the governor entered into a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with General Electric, GE, to enhance healthcare delivery in all northern states. Signing the MoU in Abuja, yesterday, the governor, who noted that governors of the region were taking very determined steps to rewrite the northern story from different perspectives, regretted that unproductive population in the North had resulted in lack of affordability for the most basic of healthcare services.

Shettima said: “It is a tall and tough task but where there is the will, there is always the way and one of these ways is partnership with General Electric in our very sincere bid to improve healthcare infrastructure in the region.” ‘’As we go towards implementation, we should bear in mind that the lives of many people in Northern Nigeria depend on how quickly we are able to continually improve access to quality and affordable healthcare. “Series of report by the World Health Organisation gives records of high maternal, infant and under five-old mortality in the northern population. “We have since resolved to productively invest on sound and measured basic education. We resolved to have strong bias for girl-child education.” “It is always a pleasure for me whenever I have something to do with General Electric.

This, of course, is for the simple reason that General Electric is sincere in partnerships, committed to pursuing goals and most importantly, very compassionate about supporting us to address key problems bedeviling us in Northern Nigeria. “In three successive years, I have been privileged to have productive affiliations with the General Electric. In October, 2015, I was present when the General Electric presented a cheque of millions dollars to the UNICEF, which at that time, was the highest private sector intervention in support of internally displaced persons in Borno State. “In November, 2016, I was mandated by my colleagues from the Northern Governors Forum to sign an MOU with the General Electric for the establishment of solar plants to generate combined electricity of 500 Megawatts from five States in Northern Nigeria. “In October, 2017, I am here again, to once again, on behalf of my colleagues, sign another MOU with General Electric for upgrade of healthcare infrastructures in Northern Nigeria.

“The Northern Governors Forum is absolutely committed to this partnership and we have supreme confidence in our selfless and versatile Malam Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi, who is heading the Northern Nigeria Global Economic Re-integration Programme which is the facilitator of today’s partnership.’’

-As Minister of Works Visits Okorocha -

The minister of Power, Works & Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has announced the commencement of work on Aba-Owerri & Oweri-PortHarcourt roads as the contractors are said to have mobilized to site. Fashola in company of the Minister of State, Alhaji Suleiman Hassan visited Governor Okorocha in solidarity of his 55th birthday, said he is amazed at the high level of infrastructural developments going on in Owerri adding that, the governor has demystified governance in the state.

Recall, the Aba-Owerri road project was earlier awarded to a top a PDP Federal legislator from Imo state who later abandoned same in 2014. While investigation is ongoing to recover the multi-billion Naira loot, the President Buhari led APC government magnanioidly captured the roads in the 2017 budget to appease the yearnings and compliment the expectations of stakeholders in the political zone.

No doubts, the doggedness and contributions of Governor Rochas Okorocha on the emergence of the echelon of leadership in APC at both state and National levels are bearing good fruits and as a matter of fact, dividends of democracy.

According to reports, she was subsequently suspended for two weeks without salary for her indisciplined way of dressing.

This was made known in a letter signed by the Ugandan Permanent Secretary to the Judiciary, Ms Josephine Mawunge, who explained that her intermission from work was due to her wearing of “a very short and tight dress”.

This was made known in a letter signed by the Ugandan Permanent Secretary to the Judiciary, Ms Josephine Mawunge, who explained that her intermission from work was due to her wearing of “a very short and tight dress”.

Part of the statement read;

“This is to inform you that on the 21st September, 2017, while you were invited to the Permanent Secretary of the judiciary for an explanation regarding the nonpayment of your salary and allowances, for the month of July 2017, you turned up dressed in a manner that does not portray the good image of the judiciary and the public at large.

“In particular, you were dressed in a very short and tight dress which by description does not fall within the generally acceptable standards of the establishment notice.”
