Celebrities › Re: Why The Statue Of Fela Kuti In Lagos Is Headless by MrHenshaw: 8:27am On Oct 19, 2017 |
rusellweb: https://i2.wp.com/fstrends.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/fela-statue1430159498.jpg?w=430 Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti continues to be a legend even 20 years after his demise.
The 2017 edition of the festival was a special edition as it marked the 20th year anniversary of Fela’s demise, and the Lagos State government commemorated the legend by erecting ‘The Liberation’ a statue of Fela at Allen Roundabout, Ikeja, Lagos.
To the surprise of several people, the statue erected was without a head and this raised a lot of suspiscion and comments from fans of the late Afrobeat legend.
Responding on behalf of the family, Fela’s daughter and social commentator, Yeni Kuti has justified the design of the monument, saying it was the expression of how the artist felt about the late legend.
She said: ‘Before people on social media will start to say the Fela has no head or it has no hand and so on, it is art and before you abuse us, let me answer quickly. It is art. How an artist feels is how he feels because if he had put a head and the head did not look like Fela, everybody will say the head did not look like Fela so now you cannot abuse the head because it is not even there.’
The visual artist who designed the effigy, Abolore Sobayo said the work was an expression of how he feels about the late Afrobeat legend, saying that it was designed to generate discussion about the emancipation of the people. While justifying the fact that the art work had no head, Sobayo said the design came out of extensive research on what Fela represented through his music, and how to use same to correct some of the things he complained about years ago that are still happening.
‘For me as an artist, art transcends beyond beauty or aesthetics. For me, art should generate discuss; art should ask question and art should provoke our thoughts. For me, the creation of the Liberation Statue is to represent the essence of Fela by using his costume. For me, I believe that this should serve as a conscious to our subconscious that twenty years after Fela’s demise, most of the things he talked about are still happening. For me, this work should come to us not just as a beautiful work, but it should come to us as something that will ginger us to look at the positivity in our lives; positivity in the values of his music; for us to start to emancipate our people positively. Going forward, I have been able to use symbolism as a medium to represent Fela through his costume and to represent his essence,’ Sobayo said.

BloggersNG: The Miracle twins! A woman with a strong faith has shared her testimony, of how she gave birth to twins, After Doctors declared her wombs filled with Fibroid.. The Woman stood on her ground, and rebuked it, Months later she welcomed cute Twins, pictured with her above, The excited mother shared the photos and wrote;
"That moment when i held what the Sonographer first confirmed was Fibroid. Sir, my womb is not meant for Fibroid, i said. Madam, he said, i know a foetus when i see one and fibroid when i see one. Can't you see the difference? As he showed me the images on his scan machine. Sir, i will come back here and you will see that i am carrying twins, i got up and left.
He looked at me like, so this one want to teach me my job. Me too looked at him like, am about to shock you with the miracles the God i serve can wroth. Not after i hear those amazing testimonies from the altar, not after all the twins prayer request i have been writing years before i even met my husband. "Devil you can lie sha o"
Long story short... i got home and started preparing for twins. God gave me a miraculous testimony, no fertility drugs (contrary to what i have heard people say), no special regimen, easy pregnancy save for palpitations as a result of 2 men growing inside me, favourable conditions etc... Most times i think i don't deserve it but Jehovah is the all merciful who blesses us regardless of our situation.
I look at these gifts and wonder... none of them look like fibroid , what i see are great and honorable men, who will impact their generation and beyond, positevely doing exploits and constantly showcasing God's Glory.
Jehovah, me your daughter is saying thank you again. My whole being and all that i am is not enough to say thank you. Gratitude is all i have got in me!!!'''

[quote author=eziokwubundunuwa post=61527550] Imo Businnes Community on Zuma's visit
The Imo State business community, under the aegis of the Imo Economic Development Initiative, has said the visit of South African President Jacob Zuma was a major boost to the state’s economy.
The opposition has criticised the state government for spending public resources to host the South African President. But a member of the business community and Chairman of the Germaine Group, Chief Jerry Chukwueke, told The Nation that the benefits from the visit far outweighed the cost and whatever the state government went through. According to him, there was a robust engagement between the business community and the South African delegation, led by its President, where mutual agreements were reached in the power and gas sector, as well as the agriculture and hospitality
Chukwueke said: “As part of the outcome of our engagements, the South African President approved the setting up of a consulate in Owerri. This means people travelling to South Africa from the Southeast can process their visas and other related business documents directly in Owerri with much ease. “The President also approved the establishment of a payment centre in Imo State, where all business payments are made and credit card obtained. This can be used for business transactions in South Africa. You can imagine the volume of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) that will accrue to the state and the number of jobs that will be created.” The businessman also said President Zuma agreed on a partnership between the South African Airline and Imo International Cargo Airport.
Those in the Imo State team included Chairman of Diamond Bank Plc, Pascal Dozie; Chairman of Zinox Computer, Chief Leo Stan Eke; and Chairman of Innoson Motors, Innocent Chukwumah.
Chukwueke said: “We have, as a matter of fact, set up a 10-man committee made up of five people from each side. We will be having our first meeting next month in South Africa. We are looking forward to further engaging the South African government to see how we can harness their huge expertise in agriculture, mining and the automotive industry.”[/quote
