tpben: Well done.
What's the size?
Intended plant population? I actually do not know how large it'll be yet. Im thinking of starting off with 10 plots, then plant among some plantain and young palms maybe up to 30 plots. The land is available, its the funds that'll determine that. I'll be planting shombo, not rodo. Im more interested in disease resistance and ruggedity than hybrid yield so no hybrid fresh pepper. I'll also plant maize. |

As we move forward into the year, the rains gradually return and soon it will be planting season. This newbie is excited to get my first real move into commercial agriculture. Fingers crossed. I'll be uploading the progress regularly to teach and be taught so lets be positive on this thread. |

You need to visit ScienceDirect to understand what I'm talking about.
If only you guys knew how far research has gone you would know we sit at the bottom of the pile whilst still primitive in our dealings. You're so right. We're in the dark ages. 5 yrs ago our science and tech minister was saying by 2020 we'll be making our own pencils. What an insult!!! The African giant. I love Nigeria but our people are destroying it, not just politicians. We need to invest in research... |

Psalmy2cute: theres alot of things that makes an hybrid plant, it's not just about the yeild.. theres shelve live, resistance to diseases.. ability to manage long period of drought.. local opv may not give exactly what an hybrid can offer.. but what you'll get from it will be worth the effort.. local farmers dont use much chemicals.. nor manure of any form.. they'll even tell you, youre wasting your money when they see you using them.. but still they're able to produce enough that it compels them to farm pepper each season.. now think what will happen when you give same local opv an hybrid treatment I share your thoughts on this.im planning shombo on an acre with drip tape and fertigation.lets see what happens. |

gthorpe123: Dear Nairalanders
I hope you are having a great month. We have 58 tons of Your favorite NatSoil organic fertilizer left and available for sale.
Please see below 7 reasons why NatSoil is better than the rest
1. NatSoil is better than other organic fertilizers because of it’s high carbon content (up to 91% on a dry weight basis). NatSoil contains naturally available CO(NH2)2 urea, NH4+ ammonium, organic compounds with nitrogen (N) and fatty acids (carbon, hydrogen and oxygen). In the soil the carbon causes those micro-organisms (microbes) that cannot fix carbon themselves (for e.g fungi) to use the carbon for energy & propagate.
2.It contains chitin (about 20% of carbon content), which is the most important carbon compound in soil as it attracts 3x more beneficial microbes than any other organic fertilizer. Beneficial microbes are essential for nutrient/enzyme exchange in crops. Early appearance of these microbes and readily available nutrients for them to feed on ensures they propane faster than non beneficial microbes.
3. Chitin (from maggot skin) in the soil keeps soil PH optimal. it also increases nitrogen over time as microbes expand, die then decompose (allowing crops mineralize N in various forms over a long period of time).
4.Beneficial microbes in NatSoil enable the flow of auxin and other nutrients like protein (from N which is rated at 3%), K (3%), calcium, copper, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum.
4. The increase in soil activity and the readily available nutrients speed up *germination* and *flowering/fruiting process*.
5. We have composted our product to breakdown chitin, carbon, fat, cellulose and Nitrogen such that it is readily available for mineralization by crops. This ensure that our organic fertilizer is high in microbes.
6. The chitin levels in NatSoil are adequate to restrict the growth of harmful microbes and the composting process ensures that only beneficial microbes grow first and crowd out pest microbes, pathogens and insects.
7.Our customers note a remarked difference in growth of the crop compared with any other fertilizer. Customers have seen a reduction in mites, stem borers, wireworms, botrytis species that cause mildew, moulds etc.
8. We produce locally in Epe, composting insect manure from our insect farming operations (we make 50% insect protein meal as our core product).
Please do not miss out on this opportunity to try our product at a low price of N20,000 per ton.
Contact me directly for any orders on 08176499981.
Thanks and kind regards
George

healthserve: I'm sure you won't be happy if you find yourself in my shoes, where people see you as intelligent then begin to publish falsehoods to tarnish your reputation. I'm sure you won't. It also baffles me that adults can also stoop to such levels just to bring another down as a means to push themselves up. The aggressors are the ones to challenge. Not the defendant Im not here to challenge anyone. Im simply saying there are appropriate channels with which both parties can lay their complaints. This back and forth accomplishes nothing but more chaos(opposite of progress). Also you all need to be careful what you post for it can be used against you. |

OluchiDelly: From the pix, it shows thiis is the opv they call Jos. Since this is not raining season, what made you draw the DM conclusion? Or did you see traces of DM in the plant/farm? This is griffaton's supermarketer. I'm usinga a swampy area so DM is expected.saw just2 instances of PM. Had to prune the infected leaves at about 4weeks, then sprayed fungicides and fertilizer, worked wonders. |

So I'm liking my supermarketer trial...This is the most green cucumber I've ever harvested. The difference really is the manure. Land preparation continues. Downy mildew so far has no effect on the fruits.

So this was my supermarketer test plot. They're coming in now at 6weeks and fruits are so green. Thank God it was a success even with DM(I expected this from the swamp which was the reason for the test in the 1st place) and it seems systemic Fungicides work just fine.
