Atiku's utterances are not only self-serving, they are in disgraceful considering the fact that Atiku was Vice President for 8 years without any clear achievement other than massive looting of the country's wealth, and gross political prostitution. Nigerians are tired of mediocre and selfish politicians like Atiku, and we simply are asking him to leave Nigeria alone for those who are serious about restoring it. Atiku is a disgrace! |
Watch your tongues, PDP cautions aspirants || President Goodluck Jonathan has said that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar lacked the moral integrity to assess his chances for the 2011 presidential race. The president through his campaign organization stated this last night while reacting to a statement credited to Atiku who had said that Jonathan could not be trusted for the office of the presidency. "Assessment of the personality, integrity and trustworthiness of the candidate is the prerogative of the Nigerian people and the electorate," the director of media of Jonathan/Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr. Sully Abu stated in a statement. "The Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organization has noted that in spite of President Goodluck Jonathan's clear articulation of the issue of zoning and the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the matter, Vice-President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has continued his campaign of calumny aimed at impugning the character and integrity of the President." Abu said Atiku's comment on the president's personality was rather curious given his own antecedents and the fact that he was only recently admitted into the PDP after long running battles with his local Adamawa state chapter of the party. According to him, "The Goodluck/Sambo Organization wishes to state categorically that the PDP zoning issue has been resolved by the party and enjoins all loyal members of the party to respect that position and stop using this as a diversion from tackling the real issues that affect the Nigerian people." "We enjoin all aspirants for the 2011 presidential election rather than engage in diversionary tactics to conduct their campaigns based on what they can do for the country and its people." Meanwhile, the president will this morning have breakfast with over 200 youths as part of his plans to mark the 50 years of Nigeria’s independence. On of his senior aides told LEADERSHIP that Jonathan will use the forum to challenge the youths in the nation's current move for free, fair and credible elections. He will also challenge the youths to take their destiny into their hands and advise them to never again allow anti-democratic elements to have access to public offices for the sake of their future. However, worried by the inflammatory statements from the camps of its presidential aspirants, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned the presidential aspirants to show restraint in their utterances. The party feared yesterday that if this trend was not checked, its chances in the general elections might be jeopardised. The National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Prof. Rufai Ahmed Alkali said yesterday that the need had arisen for the political office seekers for all offices to reconnect to the ideals of the founding fathers. According to Alkali, "At this critical eve of the next General Elections, we call on all politicians to reconnect to the ideals of our founding fathers in eschewing every tendency that can exacerbate the fissures in our diversity. We urge all those seeking for elective offices in the 2011 General Elections to show maturity and restraint in their utterances and actions. It is time to imbibe the spirit of give and take as did our founding fathers, so as to avoid any effrontery on the adhesive of national unity". Since the emergence of the party's presidential aspirants, their respective campaign organisations have made it their favourite past time to counter each other’s positions with vigour. http://www.leadershipeditors.com/ns/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=16708:by-iyobosa-uwugiaren-and-chuks-ohuegbe-abuja&catid=51:cover-stories&Itemid=101 |

Pays tribute to nation’s founding fathers || President Goodluck Jonathan vowed yesterday to hand over power to whoever wins next year's presidential election on May 29, 2011. “Our commitment to hand over power to the winners of the forthcoming elections on 29th May, 2011 is unshakeable. This is a healthy and accountable democratic process demanded by all Nigerians,” he said. The president made this solemn declaration yesterday while delivering a keynote address at the LEADERSHIP Newspapers’ conference on "Nigeria at 50: An Agenda for the next fifty years" that held yesterday in Abuja. The nation's march to democracy had suffered a major setback in the Third Republic when the June 12, 1993 presidential election was annulled by the military. President Jonathan, being an incumbent is firstly contesting the party primary with four other aspirants. They are: former military president Ibrahim Babangida, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former National Security Adviser, General Aliyu Gusau and the governor of Kwara state, Dr. Bukola Saraki. Whoever emerges the party's candidate will contest the presidential election with candidates from other registered political parties. The President who was represented at the occasion by the minister of state for Information and Communications, Mr. Labaran Maku stressed the commitment of his administration to free, and fair elections. President Jonathan however, noted that the nation would not have achieved the giant strides it achieved so far if not for the founding fathers, statesmen and women that were committed to the Nigerian project. "Indeed, it is in acceptance of the fact that we owe a huge debt of gratitude to these our earliest statesmen and women, as well as few most prominent citizens who have contributed so much to what we are today that we plan to honour 50 distinguished Nigerians as part of the anniversary celebrations. "But, gratitude alone is not what we owe them. Sustaining our federalism and building democracy and economic development are vital to their sacrifices and the legacies we inherited. "The emergence of the current institutions of democratic governance, following the enactment of the 1999 Constitution and elections, was the direct result of our national consensus that democracy and the rule of law are vital to our stability, peace and progress as a nation. "In the past eleven years, we have struggled to perfect our democracy and build on the foundations laid over the past several years", President Jonathan said. Noting that the journey since May 1999 has not been without hitches, the president said that the PDP- controlled government have concentrated its attention on perfecting 'our institutions of governance and delivering the dividends of democracy to the people." The founding fathers and statesmen and women the president mentioned for recognition includes; Mr. Herbert Macauley, Ernest Ikoli, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa. Others are Chief Dennis Osadebey, Dr. Michael Okpara, Mrs Margret Ekpo, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Hajiya Gambo Sawaba, Malam Aminu Kano, Chief Anthony Enahoro etc. He said that their commitment to a single united entity called Nigeria at the point of independence was what guaranteed the genesis of what the nation is celebrating today. As the country marches into another fifty years of its nationhood, President Jonathan charged that; 'We the people must do all within our powers to put Nigeria on the map of development and ensure the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms for the benefit of our citizens and humanity". The president however, identified the challenges facing the nation, noting that the democratic foundation already created and stengthened provide fertile ground to confront them. He listed the challenges to include; public safety and security, building a stable polity based on free, fair and credible elections, implementation of the national fiscal policy, implementation of the Vision 20: 2020 programme, and addressing the nation’s infrastructural deficit. Others are education and healthcare delivery institutions, wealth creation and employment generation, banking and financial sector reforms, anti-corruption and amnesty and development of the Niger Delta. The President said that public safety and security is a major problem, noting that the deterioration of public security and security has been a major concern government. Jonathan assured that government would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the Police Force is strengthened, structured and screened to meet all the challenges of fighting crimes in the society. On building a stable polity, the president restated his commitment to free and fair elections. According to him, "this is vital to a healthy and accountable democratic process demanded by all Nigerians." The president also stated unequivocally that he will hand over power to the winners of the forthcoming elections on May 29th, 2011, 'is unshakeable'. On amnesty and development of the Niger Delta, the President said that since the establishment of the Ministry of Niger Delta the situation in the region had improved tremendously. According to him, the militant groups have disarmed, while the levels of criminality have drastically reduced with development activities picking up. "The government will ensure that these gains are sustained and built upon to ensure that the region plays its role as the engine room of the Nigerian economy". He said that the Central Bank and the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation had undertaken major initiatives in saving the banking system from collapse and ensuring that stakeholders' fund are not utilised in risky and self-serving ventures. http://www.leadershipeditors.com/ns/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=16662:chuks-ohuegbe-abuja&catid=51:cover-stories&Itemid=101 |

The First Lady, Dame Patience Gooodluck Jonathan joined other spouses of Heads of State and Government at the United Nations General assembly to pay an historic visit to Stone Barns Center, a nonprofit farm and education center in Pocantico Hills, New York. ibrolamin:That is the most funniest part of it, blackberry is a fruit, and facebook is a texbook ![]() |
70 per cent of Nigerians are below the age of 40. Many of these young people, the next generation, as they are called, are on internet services such as Facebook and twitter, using Blackberry and if you ask any of these people running for presidency, they will think that Blackberry is a fruit.YES THAT IS TRUE I THINK FRUITS WILL DEFINATELY BE WHAT BLACKBERRY WILL MEAN TO IBB AND BUHARI, EVEN FACEBOOK WILL BE MISTAKEN FOR TEXBOOK IF ASKED IBB AND BUHARI BUT THANK GOD FOR GEJ THAT HAS OPENED THEIR AWARENESS TO FACEBOOK ![]() |
THANK YOU EL RUFAI THEY ARE BOTH EXPIRED AND CONTAMINATED? AND ALSO ITS AN ABOMINATION FOR THEM TO RULE NIGERIA AGAIN, El-Rufai said: “I was 25 years old when Buhari and Babangida were Heads of State and I am now 50 and they still want to be Head of State. I don’t understand that. I don’t understand that at all and I call on the young people of Nigeria to take their future into their hands and ensure that in the next election, they vote for a new generation of leaders.THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF NIGERIA SHOULD TAKE THEIR DESTINY INTO THEIR HANDS BY VOTING FOR YOUNG AND DYNAMIC LEADER, AS IBB ONCE SAID THAT THE YOUTH ARE NOT READY TO RULE THE COUNTRY , |
Quit presidential race now , El-Rufai tells Buhari, IBB From AIDOGHIE PAULINUS, Abuja Thursday, September 30, 2010 • El-Rufai Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has asked former military rulers, Generals Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) and Muhammadu Buhari, to quit the 2011 presidential race. Speaking with Daily Sun in Abuja at the Leadership independence conference organized by the Leadership Newspaper on Nigeria at 50, El-Rufai canvassed the enthronement of a new generation of leaders. “I have great respect for President Babangida. I think he has done a lot for Nigeria. You won’t take that from him. He has made his mistakes like every human being, but people like President Babangida and General Buhari should just disappear. They should give way to a new set of people with new ideas. Young people preferably,” El-Rufai said. El-Rufai said the whole world is now being ruled by young people and wondered why old blood should continue to rule Nigeria. “Obama is 48 and Cameron is 43 for God’s sake. So, why are we recycling leaders that ruled this country very well or very badly 25 years ago?,” he queried. El-Rufai said: “I was 25 years old when Buhari and Babangida were Heads of State and I am now 50 and they still want to be Head of State. I don’t understand that. I don’t understand that at all and I call on the young people of Nigeria to take their future into their hands and ensure that in the next election, they vote for a new generation of leaders. “I think that we will not make progress until we break the link from the past and just move on. 70 per cent of Nigerians are below the age of 40. Many of these young people, the next generation, as they are called, are on internet services such as Facebook and twitter, using Blackberry and if you ask any of these people running for presidency, they will think that Blackberry is a fruit. So, we have to move away from there and stop thinking that this leadership thing is all about us or all about individuals. We must put the future of the country at heart and give way to a new generation of leadership.” While declaring that the nation had something to celebrate for remaining united as one country despite fighting a civil war, El-Rufai, however, said there was a lot to reflect about. “As we look towards the next 50 years, I think the principal issue in Nigeria has been the failure of leadership. We have not made the progress that our human and natural resources entitled us to make and it is all because we have failed leaders,” he noted. On the forthcoming elections, El-Rufai said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would ensure credible elections in 2011. “I have personal confidence in Prof. Attahiru Jega. He is a man of great integrity. He is an honest man, who could not be bought at any price and for that reason, we are all hopeful that he will ensure free and fair elections,” he said.
