It was a protest galore in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday after the former dictator, Ibrahim Babangida, declared his intention to contest the presidential election in a ceremony at the Eagle Square, Abuja. Hundreds of youths, including women, mobilised to attend the Abuja declaration stormed the Government House, Minna to register their grievances over non-payment of promised allowances for attending the event. It was gathered that the youths were hired by the Special Assistant to the State Government on Mobilisation, Mr. Yahuza Abdullahi, with a promise that they would be paid fees ranging from N3000 to N5000 to enable them attend the ceremony. However, our correspondent learnt that despite participating in the ceremony, the youths, numbering about 2000, were not paid. It was further gathered that the youths were transported to the venue of the event in 41 coaster and five luxury buses. Based on the monetary inducement and other promised welfare packages, the youths were said to have agreed to travel from Minna to the Eagle Square, Abuja, where Babangida declared his intention to run for the presidency on Wednesday. But trouble started when Abdullahi who was supposed to pay them was nowhere to be found. The angry youths who looked pugnacious throughout the ceremony returned home at about 3am, disappointed, especially as it was gathered that they had skirmishes with rival youths on their way home. Following the development, the hungry youths who felt cheated stormed the Government House in Minna to lodge their complaints. The youths who chanted solidarity songs said they were hired in groups of 50 for the ceremony but were abandoned by the organiser on getting to the venue of the event. The irate groups, including IBB Support Group and TJ Movement group threatened to cause trouble unless they were paid as agreed. The groups who were led to Government House by Mr. Yau Ibrahim, Mr. Musa Rabo, Mr. Tijani Umaru and Mr. Abdullahi Yahaya, said they were unfairly treated. One of the aggrieved youths who refused to mention his name because of the sensitive nature of the matter blamed the protest on the organiser.

The police in Lagos on September 15, 2010 paraded a 45-year-old man, Julius Sossu, who allegedly stabbed his landlord to death after being given a notice to quit his one-room apartment located at Morogbo area of Ikorodu in Lagos State. Mr Sossu had on September 9, 2010 at about 6am woken his landlord, John Olatunji, aged 65, on the pretext that smoke was coming out of his car. Panicked, Mr Olatunji went to see for himself. But as he checked the car, Mr Sossu then stabbed him severally on the head and stomach. He said his landlord had continually disturbed his peace, the latest time involving him and his landlord fighting for three days over him quiting his abode before he stabbed him to death. “Last September when him first give me notice, him force me to sign. So this time when he inform me say he want to write quit notice give me, I tell am make him wait. Na from there problem start,” said Mr Sossu. Mr Sossu who claimed to be a block moulder, said both him and his landlord attended the same white-garment church in their neighbourhood, adding that he was not in his senses on the morning he stabbed his landlord. “I no know dey thing I dey do at that moment. I no know why I dey carry knife,” he said, however denying he was suffering from any mental illness, The police spokesman, Frank Mba said the suspect was not happy his landlord had asked him to quit by the end of September and decided to injure him, with the intention of making him change his mind. “The suspect claimed his landlord gave him quit notice from his one-room apartment up to the end of September, 2010. He claimed he was not happy over this. He decided to inflict injuries on him, hoping it would change his mind. On the faithful day at about 5 am., he went to knock at the door of the landlord, one John Olatunji, 65, and told him that smoke was coming out from his car . The landlord hurriedly came out to check his car.” He said. “After being stabbed, the landlord collapsed and was taken to a private hospital, but he died three days later due to the injuries sustained at different parts of his body,” Mr Mba said. Mr Mba added that Mr Sossu would be charge to court soon, upon conclusion of ongoing investigation.

Horrible!I can't believe that a sensible human can kill his family members. critical investigation should be carried out to unravel the mystery behind it. |
Bello Garba Bello, the first son of the late senior official of the state security service killed on Monday in Kano, has allegedly confessed that he was the one who actually stabbed his father, Garba Bello, his mother, Habiba and his three siblings to death in a murder case that has shocked residents of the city. Twenty-two-year-old Mr Bello (Baba) made this confession yesterday at the headquarters of the Kano State Police Command, Bompai Kano. The state Police Commissioner, Mohammed J. Gana, showed journalists a handwritten confessional statement allegedly written by the suspect, in which he confessed to killing his family and said that after he killed them, he tried to commit suicide but couldn’t after realising the enormity of what he did. Mr Bello, who is a 200 level Physics student of the Kano State University of Technology, Wudil (KSUT), had also all egedly confessed, in a hand written statement submitted to the state command of the State Security Service (SSS), that he single-handedly carried out the killings. He also claimed that his anger was that his father was going to die because of his terminal illness and that he could not bear the responsibilities of catering for his mother and siblings that would follow subsequently. He said in the statement that he stabbed his parents and three of his siblings to death at about 2am on Monday this week. “My father cannot provide for my basic needs, so I killed them all with knives,” the statement to the police reads. “It was painful to me and the entire family. It was an unbearable, irreparable loss. My father has been bedridden and I know he is not going to survive. I did the job alone. “The intention was to wipe out the entire family and after that, I called my neighbours, Isiaku and Buhari immediately after the incident.” Speculations not at rest Security officials say his confession puts to rest speculations about the motive behind the killing of 54-year-old Bello and four members of his family. The incident also saw 40-year-old Habiba strangulated and three of their children, 16-year-old Hafsat; 14-year-old Khalifa and five-year-old Murjatu murdered in cold blood. One Umar Danjani, who claimed to be a relation of the deceased SSS official, has, however, disagreed with the police and the said confessional statement of Mr Bello. Mr Danjani said that Farouk, the other surviving son of the late Bello, told the family that he saw another man who was wearing a white singlet, called Aminu, kill his family members. He also said some neighbours heard the sound of a whistle and sound of many persons. “This means that the younger Bello did not carry out the killings alone,” he said. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/National/5619493-146/i_killed_my_father_mother_and.csp

WHERE are the beneficiaries of former military president Ibrahim Babangida fabled generosity? That was the question yesterday at the Eagle Square, Abuja where Babangida began his campaign for president. The number of dignitaries could be counted on finger tip. Former Information Minister, Chief Alex Akinyele wondered why many of those who benefited from Babangida’s generosity while the man was in power failed to show up. Akinyele, who served in the Babangida regime, went Biblical, alluding to the 10 lepers who were healed by Jesus Christ. "Out of the 10 lepers that were healed by our Lord Jesus Christ, only one came back to show appreciation," he said asking rhetorically, "where are the remaining nine?" Three governors, a few senators and members of the House of Representatives and some former public office holders. The three governors are Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) and Mahmud Shinkafi (Zamfara). Senators Nuhu Aliyu (Niger North), Kanti Bello (Katsina North), Zaynab Kure (Niger South) and Muhammad Maccido (Sokoto North) were there. Former Majority Leader in the House of Representatives and now chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, Abdul Ningi and another former Reps Majority Leader, Bawa Bwari, led a few others to the event. Former House of Representatives Speaker Ghali Umar Na ‘Abba and former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili were there. Vocal pro-zoning campaigner, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai attended the event. Others are: former military Governor of Kaduna State Col. Abubakar Dangiwa Umar (rtd); former Defence Minister Dr Shettima Mustapha; former Health Minister Prof ABC Nwosu; former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr. Pascal Bafyau; former Minister Gen Mohammadu Magoro (rtd) and Mrs Remi Adiukwu-Bakare. The Nation Tens of hired commuter buses conveying people to the Eagle Square venue of the event started hitting the ever-busy Abuja-Zuba axis of the Abuja/Minna/Suleja Road as early as 7 am yesterday. The movement slowed down traffic and kept residents of Dutse, Bwari, Kubwa, Deidei, Zuba and Suleja, who work in the capital city, on the road for hours. Passengers in the buses who were decked in various IBB campaign attires, waved buntings, posters and handbills and chanted IBB slogans. The main event started at 11 am when Babangida arrived at the venue in a motorcade, surrounded by hordes of associates and security personnel. observed that most of the people who attended the event were brought in from neighbouring states, particularly Niger.

Hi Mr ATIKU,dont allow PDP to cajol you, they know what they are doing and is better u dont fool yourself. I realy pity you. The same people who gave you waiver will be thesame people to anounce your OBITUARY. Be wise. ![]() |
Former vice-president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has described the granting of a waiver to him to contest the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential primaries as a ‘victory for democracy.’ In a statement by his campaign organisation on Wednesday, he said, “It is time to chart a new course for the PDP by entrenching true democracy and the rule of law. It is not about me. “It is about ensuring that we deepen our democracy by entrenching inclusiveness in our party’s quest to usher in a new order.” He extended a hand of friendship to all members of the PDP and Nigerians in general and called on his supporters join hands with him in his quest to rule the country. |
Men I wish God will once again do what He knows how to do best by saving us from the hands and shackles of these power mongers who have vowed never to let True Nigerian enjoy the benefit of good governance and the rich resources which they are almost using up.May GOD PLS ARREST IBB ON HIS WAY TO ASO ROCK JUST AS HE ARRESTED SAUL ON THE WAY TO DAMASCUS FOR US.Amen. |
By SaharaReporters, New York Former military dictator, Ibrahim Babangida today made a splash of his looted wealth at the Eagle Square, Abuja, standing in the midst of rented crowds and politicians without constituencies to formally declare his long-shot ambition to run for the presidency. Sources told Saharareporters that in order to make today’s event a “success,” Babangida’s hired guns rented crowds from Zamfara, Niger and Sokoto states for the big splash in Abuja. The gamble had Goodluck Jonathan, who is desperate to win the presidency on his own steam, panicking. Jonathan had forced operatives of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to schedule an emergency meeting as a way of countering Babangida's declaration today but Babangida’s tepid momentum and the and the divided loyalties of PDP executive members saw that meeting postponed. Infact the governor of Niger State made reference to that in his speech, he applauded the courage of the PDP leadership in allowing the "peoples voice to prevail" by extending the time for the emergency NEC meeting which made it possible for himself and Governor Shinkafi to be present at the event. Jonathan had also risen early today to issue a declaration on Facebook about his intention to run for the presidency. That move seemed to have been intended to steal the thunder from Babangida's political declaration at the Eagle Square. Jonathan's Internet efforts hit the wires early, and dampened the enthusiasm of Babangida's rented crowds. Jonathan plans a massive outing on Saturday, but his success is dicey, as the state governors currently supporting him on the surface are known to be playing him. Although only two of the governors—Niger State's Babangida Aliyu and IBB’s in-law from Zamfara, Mr. Shinkaffi—attended Babangida's inauguration today, many more of them were responsible for placing a crowd in front of IBB for the Eagles Square rally. A political analyst told Saharareporters today that even if Jonathan has to wobble through the PDP primaries, he would still win it, thereby forcing Babangida out of the presidential race entirely. Babangida’s declaration today was attended by Ken Nnamani, the former Senate president who helped frustrate Olusegun Obasanjo’s third term ambition but who may today have dented his political status irretrievably; the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghaali Naaba; Senator Nuhu Aliyu, Chief Alex Akinyele, a former Minister of Information , former Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili and Senator Jubril Aminu. Also present was a strong delegation from Bayelsa State, purportedly sponsored by Governor Tim Sylva, who opposes Jonathan's presidential bid but pretends to support it out of fear of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. In his declaration speech, Babangida scored himself high grades in his 8 year regime which he said built the foundation for the nation’s present democratic experience. He however acknowledged that many suffered as a result of the social engineering efforts executed by his regime which he said was not different from the experiences in societies where such magnitude of social engineering efforts were carried out. He further stated that his participation in 2011 Presidential Election is a reality. Jonathan, who is growing restless about the manipulations within the PDP, plans to boost his campaigns in the South South region by pardoning his former boss, DSP Alamieyeseigha of his conviction for corruption. A copy of the letter sent to the Attorney General of the Federation proposes such a pardon for next month, October 2010. The intention is to enable Alamieyeseigha assist Jonathan in reaching deep into the Niger Delta region to campaign for his presidency, but it would also confirm that Jonathan would rather cling to the presidency at all cost rather than fight corruption. Reports from Abuja also indicate that Jonathan is prepared to put his political interests ahead of Nigeria’s. While he is expected to formally declare his presidential bid next Saturday, September 18, he had previously planned to leave for the United Nations General Assembly on Sunday, 19th. Saharareporters has learned he will be protecting his presidential ambitions by deferring his trip to New York until September 22nd. That means Nigeria will again miss a number of High Level events at the United Nations, as she has done in the past few years. Those activities include a High Level event on Climate Change, and the High Level Plenary on the Millennium Development Goals tagged, “We Can End Poverty 2015.” http://www.saharareporters.com/news-page/amidst-isolated-politicians-and-rented-crowd-babangida-declares-presidential-bid

Social Work is good and meaningful abroad, because the Govt there knows their impact in the society, the society abroad can not survive without these Social Workers, not to talk of employment generation the people benefit from such scheme, but in Nigeria the reverse is the case, Even if the Nigerian Govt doesnt encourage such scheme, because Govt dont appreciate their impact , some of the social workers too are not honest in the way and manner they operate in nigeria, many of them cover up in the name of social work to perpetrate EVIL, ranging from CHILD TRAFFICKING to CHILD SLAVERY etc. ![]() ?? |

The greatest rigging machine in Nigeria to sign corruption into law. What a combination! Is this country not doomed? If only our vote counts, these two devilish characters have no business being our leaders. |
murderous and thieving duo. Under them the Country Nigeria will be further devastated by corruption and anyone who raises his voice will be murdered.Babangida ruled Nigeria for 8 yrs and 0dili ruled Rivers state for the same number of years, what did they leave behind but 'sorrow, blood and tears' to quote Fela.May God save us from such a toxic tag team |
If it happens, then it will be the worst political mistake Babangida will ever make as the South South will have no reason to settle for a second place when their son is gunning for the first place. Why would they play the second fiddle. A savvy political operator would have chosen a vice president from another zone to give them reason to vote for him as their son and not another's would at least be within the corridors of power. But hey, the evil genius is going nowhere and it does not matter even if he picks a saint. |
