FPP Nominated for NCMG Prestigious Peace Award https://mrrightsng..com/2018/12/fpp-nominated-for-ncmg-prestigious.html?m=1 Foundation for Peace Professionals (FPP), an independent Non-Governmental Organization for Professional Peace Advocacy, Research and Conflict Transformation received with great honour, our nomination for the NCMG prestigious Peace Award in the Institutional Peacebuilders category. The 2017 edition of this award category was won by the #BringBackOurGirls movement led by former Minister of Education and 2019 Presidential Candidate, Mrs Oby Ezekwesili. Negotiation and Conflict Management Group (NCMG) that was incorporated in Nigeria in 1996 translated due to global demands into an international brand with major focus on promoting and advocating for world peace and conflict management within the Africa continent. The NCMG thus became NCMG International as approved by its Board of Governors with its Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland in 2012 and has been on the vanguard of ADR development in Africa, and continues to advance the frontiers of this relatively new industry through collaboration and partnership with relevant institutions across Europe and America. The NCMG Peace Awards, which was debuted in 2017 is in recognition of change makers that continually make exemplary commitment and outstanding contribution to the pursuit of peace, justice building and corporate citizenship in Africa. FPP is greatly honoured that such a prestigious organization with its global standing recognized our little efforts by nominating us for this great award, even though we are relatively new in the field of peace building in the country. The FPP was only incorporated in 2016 and being nominated for this award means a lot to us. The selection committee judges, led by the highly respected Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Professor Isabella Okagbue, Hon. Justice A. A Phillips among others noted in their letter that with a teeming number of nominations for the Institutional Peacebuilder category, the Selection Committee shortlisted our organization based on what they described as ‘’our outstanding contributions which facilitates peace and security’’ and we believe that the final selection wouldn’t matter whether we win it or not, as our nomination in this category is enough antidote to motivate us into doing more than we are already doing. We look forward to the final selection and wish the entire nominee best of luck. Why People's Trust Olawepo Hashim Trended On Twitter yesterday https://mrrightsng..com/2018/12/why-peoples-trust-olawepo-hashim.html?m=1 People's Trust Presidential Candidate, Mr Olawepo Hashim who has promised to create a $4trillion economy for Nigeria and pay workers #50,000 minimum wage trended on Twitter with #TrustHashim2019 yesterday. Olawepo Hashim trended amidst the trend of 2019 presidential Debate. Mr Hashim who is also the presidential candidate of the 3rd Force movement recently over took President Muhammadu Buhari of APC and Alh. Atiku Abubakar of PDP as the most talked about candidate on the social media, particularly on Facebook while reacting to his exclusion from the debate declared that the debate is an APC debate. According to him, the APC is doing everything possible to shut out the third force so that they can an easy ride with the discredited PDP. But he assured that this would never happen and that both PDP and APC will be sent parking in 2019. According to data released by analyst last week, more than 28,000 people are talking about Olawepo Hashim on Facebook, compared to only 24000 people talking about Atiku and 16000 talking about Buhari. Olawepo Hashim's political party, people's trust (pt) also emerged as the party with the highest nomination among the 28 newly registered political parties, having more nomination than the combined nomination of Madam Oby's ACPN, Fela's ANN and Kingsley's YPP. ACPN, ANN and YPP have a combined nomination of 141 while People's Trust (PT) has 194 nominations. https://mrrightsng..com/2018/12/why-peoples-trust-olawepo-hashim.html?m=1 |
North in Nigeria’s Workforce: Priority determines motivation By Abdulrazaq O Hamzat In 2014/2015, a highly respected mentor offered me a fortuity to pursue a Master’s degree programme in United Kingdom. The interesting part of this was that, the mentor did not just want me to pursue a master’s degree in UK; he wanted me to do it in the same institution he attended (University of Buckingham), where he emerged as the best graduating student in his class. He also wanted me to do the same course as him (Global Affairs) so I can possibly advance the reputation of Nigeria in that department. According to him, he believed am luminous and effulgent enough to excel not only in that institution, but also in the course like he did and having Studied Peace and Conflict Resolution (PCR) in my first degree, I also thought that going for Global Affairs (G.A) as master’s degree concentration in a posh institution like The University of Buckingham isn’t a bad idea. Though, I had my reservation about working or studying abroad. My mentor wasn’t joking about this, he wanted to single handedly sponsor the entire program and every cost associated with it. He gave me the institutions website, asked me to send in my application immediately because the admission period is almost elapsing and in the portion that asked about the sponsor, he asked me to put his name. Before that period, I am one of those who don’t really fancy studying abroad. Apart from when I was in secondary school (Ilorin Grammar School), I have never seen myself going abroad for studies or work. However, having such a mentor who is ready to sponsor your foreign education is too tempting an offer to reject or even question. So I applied at the die minute. Fortunately or unfortunately, I was informed that the application period had expired before I submitted mine and i had to wait till 6 months’ time to reactivate my application, if i am still interested in the admission. To make matter worse, they also informed me that they will no longer be offering Global Affairs as course, that it has been replaced with one other course like that, I think ‘’Security and Diplomacy’’. Right there, I made up my mind to do away with the idea of traveling abroad for study. After all, it wasn’t my idea in the first place. A day after that notification, precisely on 21st January 2015, I reapplied to National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) for Masters Degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution (PCR). At the time, a friend had asked me how easy it was for me to move from almost securing admission to travel to UK to suddenly enrolling in NOUN almost immediately; I guess the perspective of Gimba Kakanda on the conversation started by Adamu Tilde answers this question. Few days ago, a thought provoking piece, concerning the sharp difference between the North and South in the workforce of the country, particularly in the private sector by Adamu Tilde sparked an interesting conversation online. In the publication made on his wall without a title, Adamu Tilde narrated a conversation he had with a mentor, who happens to be a former National Economic Adviser. According to Adamu’s mentor, ‘’the combined workforce of the major oil companies around amount to roughly ten thousand staff, of which 70% are Yorubas with an average income of fifty million/annum’’. The use of the term Yoruba in Adamu’s piece doesn’t factor in the Yoruba’s in the North central who are also part of this generalization. Adamu’s mentor had argued that, intellectual laziness of the north is responsible for this disparity and what he described as ‘’our penchant for easy money and rent seeking’’. However, many did not agree with this perspective. In adding a twist to the conversation from an insider’s point of view, Suraj Tunji Oyewale listed 4 points he believes to be responsible for the situation and those points include Limited ambition, Limited information, Over selectivity and Lack of hustling spirit. Suraj clarified that, he doesn’t believe intellectual laziness played any role in this matter. ‘’This is why I really don’t believe an average graduate of southern origin is smarter than a compatriot from the north. The difference is just limited information, ambition and spirit’’ he concluded. Yesterday, Gimba Kakanda joined the conversation with another perspective that greatly appeals to me. Gimba’s perspective appealed to me because I could personally connect with some of the points he raised. The question my friend had asked me after my UK application, about how easy it was for me to move from almost securing admission in UK to enrolling in Nigeria can simply be explained by that ‘’sentimental attachment’’. I have become someone who is sentimentally attached to Nigeria and having missed the deadline of my UK admission, I easily switched back to my area of sentiment. Even though I could have waited for 6 months to re-apply and head for UK, I didn’t think it was worthy to be waiting to apply to a foreign institution, when I could easily secure an admission in Nigeria and considering the fact the course I find attractive has been replaced, there was no motivation to make UK my priority. After some months, when I eventually told my mentor that I am already running an Msc in Open University, he understood me and wished me luck. Although, I am yet to graduate from this same NOUN since 2015 because I and a colleague were unlawfully expelled in November 2015 for exercising our right to free association and leading the formation of a student association (Congress of NOUN Students), but the matter have been in court ever since and I believe that no matter how long it takes, justice shall be served. The point I am trying to make here is that, motivation determines priority. While some people , in the process of seeking wealth, recognition and prestige could go anywhere they can get it, irrespective of what they are leaving behind, others on the other hand can only pursue their quest for wealth and achievement, not at the detriment of other things they hold dear. This is not just about the North, i think it is more about the total life experience of every individual, which include culture, tradition, motivation and priority. https://mrrightsng..com/2018/12/north-in-nigerias-workforce-priority.html?m=1 |

Mac2016:He's the best candidate for the job. Let's support him |
Spatta:Hashim is the most formidable 3rd force candidate. No unnecessary noise making, no unnecessary show, no unnecessary false hype, he has just concentrated on the most important thing, which is talking to the people at the grassroots level. Get the message right, Hashim is not an online candidate, he his well rooted at the grassroots. He his not a public analysts that blab all around, he his a global business man with investment in 4 continents of the world in telecoms, communication, oil and gas aswell as energy. This is not a candidate seeking for attention, he his a candidate prepared to get this country out of poverty. As for his political experience, he has got it all. Let's support Hashim to make this country better. He his our best chance in 2019 to get it right |

aariwa:He did have a party structure. His party, People's Trust fielded the highest number of candidates among the 28 newly registered political parties. If you combine the candidates of Oby's party, Fela's party and Kingsley's party, their combined candidates is still far below the number of candidates fielded by People's Trust. His votes can be protect everywhere. He haa got the experience, the network and human resources. They are well spread across the country. This is why the apc is scared of them. |
dont8:You get the message. But the good thing is that, there debate will not determine who becomes president. |

Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim vows to crack down on crime perpetrators, masterminds The Presidential Candidate of People’s Trust Party, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has warned that masterminds and perpetrators of acts which promote unrest and insecurity in the country would be severely punished, if he gets elected. Olawepo-Hashim, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, said that tackling insecurity was topmost on his campaign agenda. “I will punish severely those who take the lives of other people through the law and that way, the murderers will know that there is a new sheriff in town. “It’s not the business of government to give long explanations why crimes are committed, the first thing the people want to see is that you have apprehended those who committed such crimes and it will be a deterrent for others. “That does not need budgetary appropriation which will take some time to fix the security, to arm them more, to train them more and to, perhaps, review the entire security architecture; that will take like 90 days to 60 days. “From day one, with my appointment, with my body language, everyone can see that there is a new sheriff in town that puts premium on the lives of Nigerians. “Under me, under my watch by the grace of God, the life of every Nigerian will count; you will be proud of your passport because your president and commander-in-chief will defend you with every resource at the disposal of his office whenever your life is in jeopardy,’’ he said. He reiterated the need for Nigerians to remain united, avoid tribalism and ethnic crisis and to promote peaceful co-existence. “We are also interested in how to unite Nigeria; we want to end the internal insecurity in the land and put the country back together again, the way it’s always been. “We want to take Nigeria back to when it was united, when it was peaceful; when people saw themselves more as Nigerians than as Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba; that’s a primary concern to us,’’ he said. While urging President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the 2018 Electoral Bill, the People’s Trust Party flag bearer, however, urged Nigerians not to be deterred by the bill, but to vote en masse for candidates of their choice. “President Buhari needs to stand tall as the father of the nation and give us an electoral act quickly that will commit Nigeria to an improved electoral system. “Now the point here is this, even as defective as the electoral act that was used in 2015 was, the incumbent did not return, President Buhari won that election. “So I still believe that regardless of whatever anybody thinks, the most important thing is the commitment of the people to vote and stand by their votes for who they want. “That is what I am going to be calling Nigerian electorates to do towards the next election of February 16; do not be discouraged, do not be dismayed, get your PVC ready,” he said. https://www.today.ng/news/nigeria/gbenga-olawepo-hashim-vows-crack-crime-perpetrators-masterminds-178880 |

Blue3k:According to Olawepo Hashim, $4trillion economy will only make Nigeria a middle income economy at per with countries like Malaysia. He said, until we become a middle income country, that's when we can raise the bar to target being one of the largest economy. In his plan, achieving $4trillion economy in 10 years is like a short term goal. The long term goal is to become the greatest economy in the world by 2050. This is achievable if Hashim is given the opportunity to lead the country, bringing is global business experience into building our economy. |

Candidates Protest Exclusion From Presidential Debate . . It’s APC’s Rigging Agenda –Olawepo-Hashim Some presidential candidates in the 2015 general election yesterday protested their exclusion from the presidential debate organised by the Nigeria Elections Debate Group (NEDG) and the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON). This is the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), an umbrella body of all political parties in Nigeria, has vowed to conduct its own debate in which all candidates will have the opportunity to sell their ideas to the electorate. It made the comment yesterday while reacting to the exclusion of most of its members from participating in the presidential debate being organised by the NEDG and BOI. LEADERSHIP Friday recalls that organisers of the debate had on Wednesday earmarked only five political parties to participate in the upcoming presidential debate. A statement by the NEDG executive secretary, Eddi Emesiri, listed the selected parties as the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Young Progressives Party (YPP). Some presidential candidates in the 2015 general election yesterday protested their exclusion from the presidential debate organised by the Nigeria Elections Debate Group (NEDG) and the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON). The five presidential candidates are Oby Ezekwesili, Fela Durotoye, Muhammadu Buhari, Atiku Abubakar and Kingsley Moghalu. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim of People’s Trust (PT), Omoyele Sowore of the African Alliance Congress (AAC), Donald Duke of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Tope Fasua of Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) and a host of others were excluded. Reacting to the development, the presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, called upon the NEDG and BON to include candidates of other political parties in the presidential debate. Ezekwesili asserted that candidates of other political parties should also be given an opportunity to participate in the debate as it would give Nigerians a better understanding of their ideologies. She said, “As a country with a huge contingent of parties fielding candidates for the election, it does make sense to at least allow more than five such parties, at least 25 per cent of those candidates, to participate in the most influential of presidential debates. . . . It’s APC’s Rigging Agenda –Olawepo-Hashim In his reaction, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim of Peoples Trust has described the selection of candidates as biased, anti-democratic and the agenda of the ruling APC to rig the 2019 presidential election. A statement signed by Olawepo-Hashim’s spokesman, Hassan Ibrahim, said the exclusion was, no doubt, regrettable because the party had long indicated interest in participating in the debate. The spokesman said the party hoped that the debating group was not working in cahoots with the ruling APC to undermine the strides the party was making with its spread across the country. “We urge Nigerians not to be disturbed by this development as genuine people’s debate is in the works where concrete solutions to the many problems bedeviling Nigeria will be proffered. Our campaign will be part of this new debate with many patriotic candidates who truly want to see a better Nigeria in 2019,” he said. . . . My Exclusion, Beginning Of Electoral Fraud -Sowore On his part, the presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Mr. Omoyele Sowore, has described his non-inclusion in the planned presidential debate organised by the NEDG and BON as the beginning of electoral fraud in the forthcoming general elections. Sowore made this comment yesterday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, during an interview with airport correspondents after he arrived from the United States. Sowore remarked that President Muhammadu Buhari was already jittery over the outcome of the 2019 polls and would make attempts to rig the election in his favour, which, he said, would be strongly resisted by the people. He declared that he was ready for debates on the election, and that he and his followers would fight to ensure his inclusion on the list of debaters for the election Sowore further asserted that he was the most prepared and popular of all the candidates and wondered why his name would not be included in the list. “What we know is that Mr. President and his party are already afraid about conducting free and fair polls in 2019. The beginning of the electoral fraud was the non-inclusion of my name among the presidential debaters. “We won’t allow this to deter us because, for us, the debate has commenced. Apart from using Nigerian media, there are some other media where issues are already being discussed,” he said. On the refusal of Buhari to give assent to the Electoral Act as passed by the National Assembly, Sowore said the president wanted to perpetrate fraud by his action as giving assent to Act would reduce corruption in the system. . . . We’re Not Bothered About Debate – Gabam However, unlike others who have decried their exclusion, the vice presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, yesterday stated that his party was not bothered about the national debate, saying it had become partisan and watered down. Gabam told LEADERSHIP Friday that the significance of the debate had been eroded, stressing that it would not win votes for the candidates as it had become a jamboree and platform to boo and intimidate candidates. He said, “They have watered down the essence of the debate. They have shown partisanship and have ridiculed the importance of the national debate. Also you know, the debate has never added a vote to all those that participated, otherwise former governor of Kano State Ibrahim Shekarau would have been the president of Nigeria in the 2011 election based on the debate. “But they have reduced it to a jamboree. I think serious parties should not worry about the debate. I am not worried about it and, of late, people have been coerced and harassed at the debate and people do not want to be subjected to that by hired crowd. It is against the rules of the profession when people come there and boo people. So, for us we don’t add any value to it; they can go ahead and do what they have to do. The president himself will not attend the debate, so it has been watered down.” . . . IPAC Kicks, Says it will conduct own debate Also, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), an umbrella body of all political parties in Nigeria, has condemned what it described as a deliberate plot to deny a majority of the political parties in Nigeria of their constitutional right by excluding them from participating in the presidential debate being organised by the Nigerian Election Debate Group (NEDG) and the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON). National chairman of IPAC, Chief Ameh Peter, in an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP Friday, explained that the 1999 constitution (as amended) envisaged marginalisation and, therefore, created the opportunity for a multi-party system to ensure that minority voices are heard. “What the constitution does is to give the right of choice to every Nigerian. It is unfortunate that the NEDG and BON did not even dialogue with other presidential candidates before shutting them out of the debate. Even the NBC code stipulated that broadcasting stations must accommodate diverse shades of opinions, so I don’t know the criteria considered by the debate group,” he said. Ameh noted that the non-inclusion of some presidential candidates outrightly denied affected political parties and their candidates their constitutionally enshrined rights. “Not giving some presidential candidates the opportunity to participate in the debate actually takes away the rights of affected political parties and candidates to participate freely in the electioneering process,” he noted. Ameh declared that IPAC had concluded plans to constitute a committee with a mandate to organise presidential debates that would give all presidential candidates the opportunity to speak to Nigerians on their plans for the country. “We must establish the rights of all our members; this is the right that the constitution has granted to us. IPAC is going to constitute a committee to organise our own debate, and we will make sure that all our people are accommodated,” he stated. Ameh lamented that some very vibrant and brilliant presidential candidates who have crisscrossed almost every part of the country with their campaign trains were excluded from the debate. “How can you explain this, somebody like Omoyele Sowore who has traversed almost every part of the country with his campaign was excluded. “For somebody like Eunice Atuejide, presidential candidate of the National Interest Party (NIP) who speaks several languages and has a development blueprint to showcase, people like Dr. Davidson Akhimien of GDPN, Tope Fasua of ANRP who is an Economists and several others to be excluded from the debate, we should all be worried, “ Ameh stated. https://leadership.ng/2018/12/14/candidates-protest-exclusion-from-presidential-debate/

Update on 15/70 year old marriage debacle - Mr Rights https://mrrightsng..com/2018/12/update-on-1570-year-old-marriage.html?m= This lady is not 15 year old as being claimed. She is actually 20. But her situation is one of many things wrong with the northern Nigeria. This is her 3rd marriage. At age 20. I mean at 20, she has been married thrice, divorced twice. Isn't that worrisome? Although, she wasn't forced into this marriage with her 75 year old husband as being insinuated, but the society has forced her into a life of perpetual misery and psychological instability. What can a girl of 20, who has been married 3 times teach her kids? What did she know actually? I won't be surprised if this lady already had more than 3 kids from her 2 previous marriage. Now she is in her 3rd marriage and life goes on. Sad https://mrrightsng..com/2018/12/update-on-1570-year-old-marriage.html?m=1 |
