POLITICS Nigeria needs new leaders with new experiences – Olawepo-Hashim The presidential candidate of the Peoples Trust, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, told our correspondent, OLALEKAN ADETAYO, that Nigeria needs new leaders with experiences to take it out of its current problems. Excerpts: What informed your decision to run for the highest seat in the land? I have a passion for this country and the passion has been noticeable since I was a young man. While in school, I was one of the students’ union leaders that fought for democracy. We have always believed that this country can be better than what it is now. We paid a price for that. I was detained under Decree 2 in those days. I was 1989 Amnesty International Prisoner of Conscience at the same time that Dr. Nelson Mandela was a Prisoner of Conscience in South Africa. It was my passion for Nigeria that was at display at that time, not because we were expecting that we are going to be politicians. It was even very dangerous as of that time, some of our colleagues actually died in the process of that struggle. So, what I am doing is a self-imposed duty that started about three decades ago. I understand how the modern international political economy operates and I know that we can drive all the forces of progress to make Nigeria a prosperous country. I also understand Nigeria. As one who has done business successfully in infrastructure, oil and gas, public affairs and engineering for 27 years, I will be able to steer Nigeria’s economy towards accelerated growth. I will also unite Nigeria and secure the country. That is why I am running. You are aware that the position of the President of a country like Nigeria is not a small one, what kind of political background do you have that made you feel you are qualified to hold this office? I have been in leadership positions all my life as a young man. I was a prefect in secondary school. We started leadership from that stage. You don’t just become a leader from the blues, you must have done something before that your peers believe that you can lead them. I was a students’ union leader in the university. I was one of the human rights leaders in Nigeria in the 80s. I was the National Publicity Secretary of a national party, National Democratic Labour Party, in 1996. In 1998/1999, I played a very serious role in establishing the democratic order and I was elected the first Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party. I was in the policy engine room in those years and as a matter of fact, when President Obasanjo was organising his Policy Advisory Committee, I was the secretary of the Youth and Women Sub Committee. We did most of the policy works on youths and women. Hajia Dongoyaro was the chairperson as of that time. I was also on the Political Advisory Committee in the Office of the Political Adviser up till 2003. At the policy, party management and civil society levels, I have very solid experience. But most importantly, as a businessman, I understand how to build infrastructure and how to create jobs. I think that is what Nigeria needs now. Nigeria does not need politicians that have always been depending on government all their lives. What we want to do now is to expand the economy. It is not just the usual people that you need to take Nigeria to the next phase of our development. We need essentially new leaders with new experiences. It is just like when Americans decided to go for Donald Trump, he has never been a governor or a senator and you can see how tremendous growth has occurred in the US economy because the Americans were interested in the economy in the last election. Nigeria does not need the usual set of politicians who have failed the country. Nigeria needs a new set of people who will think outside the box, not just repeating the same thing that has been done for about 30 years without result. We need to break from that era, we need a completely new and better Nigeria. That is why the core of my message is how to create a $4trn economy because the conversation has always been how to manage the small economy. Like when Nigeria had $510bn GDP in 2013, it was celebrated. But that size of economy cannot take Nigeria out of poverty. Nigeria needs $4tn size economy to be a medium-income economy and to be at par with countries that we were at par with at independence like Malaysia, Thailand and Turkey. These are middle-income economies. If we are going to have a per capita income that is going to be between $16,000 and $20,000, we need a $4trn economy. The new Nigeria economy programme that we have set up in our blueprint will take Nigeria to a $4trn economy within 10 years. We will be able to create like four million jobs on annual basis. https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/nigeria-needs-new-leaders-with-new-experiences-olawepo-hashim/amp/ |
I do not know Tinubu or Lai Muhammed, Kwara Must Change Convener –Abdulrazaq Hamzat https://mrrightsng..com/2018/12/i-do-not-know-tinubu-or-lai-muhammed.html?m=1 Full statement Few weeks ago, my attention was drawn to an agitprop and hogwash material circulated online by agents of the Senate President titled: Brief History of Kwara Must Change anchor (Tinubu’s Agent in Kwara). My initial reaction was to ignore it because i do not think it is worthy of my response. However, i am now forced to issue this response because of genuine concerns by friends and associates concerning the content of the material. The material, which also made it to the front page of nairaland, Africa’s largest forum was circulated by emissary of the ruling government in Kwara State in a desperate attempt to link the Pro-Democracy struggle of Kwara Must Change to end oppression and enthrone people’s governance to some imaginary sponsors that do not exist anywhere. It is important to note that, this is not the first time the Bukola Saraki led dynasty will be attempting to link Abdulrazaq Hamzat or Kwara Must Change to Former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu and Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed. In 2017, during our attempted recall of Dr. Bukola Saraki from the Senate over his misrepresentation of Kwara Central, the frivolous claim of Kwara Must Change being sponsored by Tinubu and Lai Muhammed was equally made and at the time, we made it very clear that we do not know Tinubu or Lai Muhammed. As a matter of fact, we made it clear that there is no politician in Kwara State or anywhere else in Nigeria that has contributed to Kwara Must Change activities and we take pride in the fact that, we are self-sponsored and self-motivated. For the purpose of emphasis, Kwara Must Change was born out of deep passion for social justice and political emancipation of the state and our activities so far is in advancement of that passion without instigation or sponsorship from any quarters. We continue to take the burden of our struggle and are determined to see it to a logical conclusion. As a Pro-Democracy group, Kwara Must Change respects the pro-democracy credentials of Tinubu, but we do not have any association with him nor with his associate, Alh. Lai Muhammed. People who have been following my activities as a person over the years can testify that my life has been about fighting for human rights and social justice, even at the expense of my comfort, liberty and personal safety. It is on record that i have never passed through an unjust system without giving it a fight and i do not intend to stop now, definitely not in Kwara State. However, it is unfortunate that whenever oppressive leaders see that their oppressive leadership is gradually coming to an end, they blame imaginary sponsors for their imminent loss. Additionally, while it may be true, that Kwara Must Change share certain common agenda with Kwara opposition elements, it is not true that our movement is being sponsored by them either. Our grassroots structures and engagement in the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara is self-sustained and the same goes for our media and online activities. So, let me reiterate that Abdulrazaq Hamzat is not a Tinubu’s agent in Kwara State. He doesn’t know Tinubu or Lai Muhammed. Abdulrazaq is a peace professional, who believes that social justice is the only way to guarantee sustainable peace and he is committed to making the necessary sacrifices to achieve this in Kwara State. MondayOsunbor:All well meaning Nigerians are supporting him already |
grandstar:Hashim is not growing the economy in that manner. He made that very clear. According to him, Nigeria's economy grew at 6% rate consistently for about 7years and it doesn't make any difference. So, as a global business man who understands global economy, his agenda is to gradually expand the economy to $4trillion in 10years. How? He made it clear that 78trillon is to be spent on global infrastructure in 10 years and investors around the world are looking for where to invest these sum. Naturally, they want to invest where they can make good returns and fortunately, Nigeria gives one of the best returns in the world. So, the target is to get atleast, 5% of this $78 trillion. All it takes to do that is dismantling the obstacles to investment, which he his committed to do in 6months. |
SoldierBoy1:His plan is well articulated. Just check on Google, how Olawepo Hashim intend to create $4TrillionEconomy4Nigeria |

|
Naijawebmaster:This is not an individual thing, it's a collective agenda. As soon as the process has been set in motion in 4years, irrespective of who is president, it can't be reversed. Hashim is a democrat |
Cajal:Hashim is a truthful man who doesn't lie for political reasons. The agenda for reaching $4Trillion economy has clearly been laid down and it would take 10years. |
kenny160:Don't be so sure. Time has changed. Olawepo Hashim is the choice of many in this election. The next few weeks will prove that to you. Lets make a better choice |
ednut1:Not every body is like you |

adeiza4u:Hashim is the man for Nigeria in 2019. No other candidate come close. Sowore's party has only 30 candidates... How can you compare his party with that of Hashim with almost 200 candidates? |
Xinzu:No reasonable person is following Atiku. All well meaning Nigerians are now with Olawepo Hashim |

traihit:What has those ones who have ruled their state give us? They brought Nigeria here. Hashim for example is a global business man, with investment in 4 continents of the world. So, you think someone who has 27years of global business experience, dealing with global leaders and industry experts needs to lead a state? Hashim has all it takes to put the country on the right track |
2019 is for Olawepo Hashim. There is no doubt about that |
Xinzu:Eeya. Eeya. Eeya. Olawepo Hashim's party, People's Trust has about 200 candidates running for reps and Senate. ANN has 20. If you are reasonable, trust me, you will make a sound conclusion without any third party. But will you? I doubt. Someone else is speaking through you |
Xinzu:You understand. Very funny person. You think everyone is like you |
SendoSendal:All of you working hard to force the failed Buhari and Atiku on this nation will not succeed. None of you complain when PDP or APC stories make it to the front page. Even though we all know PDP is the symbol of corruption and APC incompetent, but you are quick to complain about the 3rd force movement. Stop it. Nigeria needs a credible alternative and Olawepo Hashim is that alternative. |
Xinzu:Olawepo Hashim is our man for 2019

MY PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE Please Meet my choice of Presidential Candidate for the coming 2019 elections, I have met with Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim for a couple of weeks now and discussed very serious national issues, he has demonstrated his capacity and understanding of the challenges we are faced with as a nation. He understands that the first thing to achieve is building trust between the people and the government, this is the foundation for any national development, it's upon this all important foundation that every other good sprout from, and to achieve this, it's necessary to have a people centred policy but most importantly a political process that is powered by the streets and not the vault of the CBN or the treasury of the establishment. I have given my full support to him knowing fully well well that he is ready to give the major players a good fight. His $4trillion economic plan is very explicit and achievable considering our tremendous human and material resources, the plan to expand the economy is the one that is much needed in Nigeria now than ever, so this plan is one of the most fascinating agendas I have come across in the political space. The plan to create millions of jobs through local industrialization is very sound and looks achievable within the shortest time possible, transfer of technology is far better and more effective than transfer of finished goods, it's in his plan to ensure almost all goods that can be processed to finished product in Nigeria are done locally, this is in sync with my Make In Nigeria Economy, something similar to India plan that has seen millions of jobs created in India and millions being lifted out of poverty also help the economy grow at a good rate of 5-7%. Considering the huge human potentials and infrastructural deficit around our country, it's expected that we should grow our economy in double digits in the next 30years, this would require vision, competence, hard work, consistency, teamwork, determination and full knowledge of modern day economy. I can authoritatively affirm that the person of Hashim whom I have come to know, has the basic requisite experience and understanding of this and hence has won my trust, confidence and vote. He is 49years old with 27years experience in the business world, he has done his business around the globe and possess the necessary negotiation skills to match our current world political economy tactics, I believe our generation can find in him a leader that is not perfect but at least a departure from the old system. I shall take the campaign from here forward, to every corner of our nation, and I call on all those who believe in the Nigeria of the future to join hands with us in making this dream a reality. We cannot fix the future by staying the past. Its Time to take that giant leap of faith, let's stand up and fight for our country. It's not going to be easy, but I am not a fan of simplicity... Enough is Enough Mathias Baba Tsado Former ADP Presidential Aspirant https://mrrightsng..com/2018/12/my-presidential-candidate-pact-convener.html?m=1

baysol:Probably because you don't know much about him. Take your time to do a Google search about him and i can assure you that the more you know him, the more you trust him. He his a leader you can trust |
? |
DiegoNakel:These 2 are failed politicians. We are for the 3rd Force and Hashim is the man come 2019 |
emerged01:Sowore dont have one quarter of Hashim's grassroots structures. Let us stop deceiving ourselves. Sowore's party has only 30 candidates running and Hashim's party has 200. So, Sowore doesn't even come close to Hashim in anyway. Just few months ago, Sowore went to meet Balarabe Musa in Kaduna, isn't that an old politician? Stop deceiving yourself bro. Hashim is the most formidable and capable 3rd Force candidate and it is in our own interest to support him |
