https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zz4d8GSStMk Ghana NHIA Boss Entangled In Sex Scandal; Hot Audio Drops Of Him Begging To Just ‘Enter Small’ A nurse named Doreen Smith has reported an NHIA district manager, Mahama Sakara, for sexually assaulting her and she has a secret audio recording to back her claim. The nurse, who works at the Soma CHPS Compound at the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District in the Savannah Region has petitioned the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to investigate the district manager, Mahama Sakara, for “sexual assault” and “attempted rape”. In her account of the events, Miss Doreen Smith alleged Mr. Sankara had come to the CHPS compound at about 9:00am July 8 under the guise of “monitoring” but turned around to make sexual advances at her. She said even though Mr. Sankara did not succeed in having sexual intercourse with her, he fingered her in the process of struggling with him when the advances became intense. “However, when we got into the facility, Mr Mahama Sakara (the Sawla NHIA Manager) started making sexual demands. Upon several pleading that I was engaged to a man, Mr Sakara engaged me in a struggle to have sex with me. In the process, his (Sakara) fingers entered my vagina but could not have sexual intercourse with me,” part of her petition read. Doreen says she has since reported the issue to the police and the District Health Directorate. “This incident was reported to the Sawla Police Station on the 9th of July, 2020 pending investigation. Equally, I have reported the incident of this attempted rape and sexual harassment to Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Health Directorate.” In an audio tape accompanying the petition, two voices, one male and the other female, are heard in a dialogue with male voice demanding a sexual favour and the female being adamant. The main voice at a point lamented he was in pain for being denied the sexual favour and that he had had an erection long before he got into the compound. The male voice feared something may happen to him if denied the favour. “Just do me this singular favour, if you don’t do this favour and anything happens to me I won’t forgive you. I will never forgive you if you don’t do me just this favour,” the male voice is heard saying. In the audio, a voice believed to be that of Mr Mahama could be heard saying “do me this singular favour and see what God will do for us. Even if I will not release, let me just enter you and I’ll be happy“. Using health implication to convince Doreen, he said: “at least you are a nurse and you know the psychological implication of someone having that serious desire“. Doreen persistently said NO adding that she has a husband and it will be a sin. Continuing his persuasion, he said “so I should suffer like this? You are happy I am suffering.” But the female stood her grounds and insisted the favour requested was too big for her to grant, explaining “I’m engaged and the man is a man of God” while asking the male to “stop it”. At a point, the male voice requested to use his tongue on the female, which she turned down. The over 20-minute audio, the petitioner claims is a record of what transpired between her and Mr. Sankara and wants the National Health Insurance Authority to probe the matter. “I am calling on your good office as a reputable key partner in Ghana health care delivery, to investigate and institute the appropriate sanctions on Mahama Sakara.” SOURCE: https://tellghana.net/sawla-nhia-boss-caught-in-sexual-assault-scandal/ | Tell Ghana News |

According to him, the ministry will publish the local timings for the examinations after a meeting with authorities of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), among other stakeholders. Nwajiuba disclosed that as soon as WAEC examinations were concluded, the government would take up the National Examination Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) examinations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHNprQ0B9Rk Hushpuppi: Protest Rocks US Embassy As Nigerians Demand Forensic Investigation Of Atiku, Timi Frank Over Links With Alleged Cyber-Fraudster Some Nigerians, on Monday, protested to the US Embassy, Abuja, demanding a forensic investigation over ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, associate, Timi Frank and some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains link to alleged fraudster, Raymond Abbas Igbalode, popularly known as Hushpuppi. The group, under the aegis of Concerned Citizens Forum (CCF), numbering over 500 persons submitted a letter to the US Ambassador and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, urging a thorough probe of Hushpuppi’s political allies who are all in the PDP. Recall that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had alleged “criminal conspiracy linking the top echelon of the opposition” to Hushpuppi. According to the APC, ” the PDP leadership turned Dubai into their ‘Strategic’ meeting place ahead of the 2019 general elections. In its petition signed by Comrade Adamu Kabir Matazu, the peaceful protesters called on the US, through relevant agencies, to investigate the connection between these high profile Nigerians and Hushpuppi so as to recover fully the proceeds of crime or make it difficult for such monies to be laundered in Nigeria. The group reasoned that Atiku’s frequent reliance on cyber experts and reference to internet server and frequent trips to Dubai prior to last year’s elections may not be unconnected to Hushpuppi. It, therefore, urged the US to go after Atiku, Timi Frank and other PDP stalwarts who through their actions and associations with the fraudster may have helped to launder the proceeds of crime. Read full statement below: Permit us to congratulate you on your appointment as the United States ambassador to Nigeria by US President, Donald Trump, and for the successful presentation of your credentials to Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari in December, 2019. We are a group of eminent Nigerians with keen interest in building a positive image for our country through the promotion of credible best practices and exposure of acts capable of soiling the image of Nigeria. In the light of the fact that we share common ideals of accountability and good citizenship, we wish to bring to your attention, certain facts that will further build citizens’ capacity for best practices. Dear Ambassador, we are sure you are aware that within the period you arrived Nigeria and shortly before that, some of our citizens have been arrested for alleged criminal activities like cyber crime, internet fraud and money laundering in many countries in Europe, Asia and America including your country, the United States. The biggest and most recent of such, is the arrest of Mr. Raymond Abbas Igbalode, the Instagram celebrity, also known as Hushpuppi and 12 others who are alleged to have scammed over 1.9 million people across the globe of over $35 million. We commend the international community for the vigilance which has led to the arrest of these persons whose activities have deprived many of their legitimate sources of livelihood and brought shame to Nigeria. Dear Ambassador, following the extradition of Hushpuppi and his associates to the US to undergo trial for alleged cyber fraud, we wish to offer our suggestions on how the investigations would be thorough to achieve the goal of exposing all those suspected to have either aided the fraud or those who have through their actions and associations with the fraudsters, helped to launder the proceeds of crime This, we believe would ensure that all those involved in the crime are brought to book so as to serve as a deterrent to others. You will agree with us, dear Ambassador, that all the global instruments on financial crime including FATF, clearly identity several ways in which proceeds from financial crimes can be whitewashed and presented as legit. Some of these processes include association with politically exposed persons, channeling the resources through existing organisations and partnering with already established businesses. We wish to inform you that since 2016 when Mr. Igbalode pulled his first heist and leaped into living a luxurious life of opulence, his major channel for laundering the proceeds of his crime have been through open association with notable Nigerian politicians as well as former and serving public officials. Such meetings are usually presented to the public through videos and other photos of the event which are usually held in posh hotels or other expensive venues around the world on Instagram and other online media. The aim of such videos and photos, Dear Ambassador, as you are aware, is to further scam the public by presenting such fraudsters and their ill gotten wealth as clean business men with legit income that anybody can do business with. The photo and video shoots from such events serve as open endorsements of such characters, making it easy for the proceeds of these cyber fraud to be brought into Nigeria and to be accepted by unsuspecting members of the public as normal which further makes it difficult for investigating agencies to track. We wish to report you, dear Ambassador, that some of the persons who have lent their high profile personalities to cover up for such shady transactions include a former vice president of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a former senator, Dino Melaye, and a top member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Timi Frank and others. Videos clips of their association with Mr.Igbalode have been posted and reposted on major internet outlets like Facebook, Internet and YouTube for all to see. We have every reason to suspect that their open association with Mr. Igbalode (Hushpuppi), was not a coincidence as they are trying to make people believe, but was well planned to sell the fraudster to Nigerians as a legitimate businessman who associates with respected and eminent members of the society. It is in the light of this, dear Ambassador, that we urge you, to use your good office as the representative of the United States Government in Nigeria, to call the attention of the US government of the possibility that the major accomplices of Mr. Igbalode are still roaming about freely in Nigeria. We call on the US Government to in the bid to help fight cyber crime, money laundering and possible terrorists financing, to draw the attention of the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, Mr. Christopher A. Wray and the Secretary General of Interpol, Mr. Jürgen Stock to these facts. We are aware that both the FBI and Interpol have range of legal authorities that enables them investigate federal crimes and threats to national security, as well as to gather intelligence and assist other law enforcement agencies in countries outside the US. Hushpuppi is known to have defrauded millions of people across the world and is wanted for fraud crimes in Europe, the United States and Nigeria. We are aware that Title 28, U.S. Code, Section 533, authorizes the Attorney General of the US, to appoint officials to detect and prosecute crimes against the United States. The investigation we are asking these agencies to carry out are clearly crimes against the United States as well as other countries and we are aware that the FBI, unlike many domestic intelligence agencies around the world, can investigate crime in other countries, more so as the investigative jurisdiction of the FBI extends to most federal criminal laws in more than 200 areas, including computer crime (cybercrime), embezzlement, money laundering, organized crime (including extortion and racketeering), piracy and hijacking, sabotage, sedition, terrorism (including ecoterrorism). We are also aware that these agencies have helped in tracking down crimes in other countries. We also know that the FBI has in the past worked with The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Nigeria, to identify and prosecute local partners of international fraudsters and had arrested 281 individuals, including 167 in Nigeria, for their involvement in fraudulent business email compromise (BEC) schemes. Dear Ambassador you may wish to know that the EFCC in Nigeria, has said that details of Mr. Igbalode’s money laundering transactions involves many high-profile cyber criminals facing trial in Nigeria. We are happy that EFCC is also eager to engage with the EFCC in tracking victims of Mr. Igbalode’s fraudulent transactions and other fraudsters having direct involvement with him. We are interested in having these persons investigated because we believe they may have aided in laundering the proceeds of crime by Mr.Igbalode either directly or indirectly, which if established, makes them accomplices in the crime. Our suspicion is heightened by the frequent visits of these persons to Dubai in the United Arab Emirate, UAE, where Mr. Igbalode was arrested, at the slightest instance, one of which was the celebrated meeting of the associates of the former vice president shortly before the 2019 Nigeria general elections. Again, we have every reason to suspect that the frequent reliance on cyber experts and reference to internet server by the former vice president and his associates, may not be unconnected with their relationship with these cyber criminals. We therefore call on the US Government to assist through the relevant agencies to investigate the connection between these high profile Nigerians and the internet fraudster so as to recover fully the proceeds of crime or make it difficult for such monies to be laundered in Nigeria. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17QiGwb2jbE A Chinese couple in Abuja has been arrested by the Nigerian police after their Nigerian employees claimed they were locked up in their apartment for the past four months. The employees, who have been in the couple's residence in the Jabi area of Abuja for months, were "rescued" by the personnel of the Utako Divisional Police Station on Tuesday, June 30, following a tip-off by a resident, who reported the incident to the Human Rights radio station. The Chinese couple and their Nigerian employees were taken to the police station. The Chinese couple were later released on bail. A video shared by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting shows the victims claiming they had been locked up in the apartment since February. They said their Chinese employers forbade them from leaving the house and those who dared to leave to get supplies were penalized with salary deduction. One staff claimed the couple didn't allow her to leave the house to seek medical attention when she took ill. She narrated: "When I was seriously sick, I asked these people to open the gate for me, but they refused until I became very angry before they opened the door. I know my life may be at risk but I don’t mind, let the world know what is happening. They told us that if someone was going out, he could help buy something for us, but when this man (referring to a colleague) went out to buy sachet water, they deducted his salary. What do they want us to do? "We had to stay in the room and talk to people through the windows. They didn’t give us food; apart from the salary, they didn’t give us anything; they even cut our salaries." A man named Alex, who said he's the Chinese couple's driver, also accused his foreign employers. He said he and the seven others had been working against their will for the couple since the outbreak of COVID-19 in February. He said: "They never allowed us to go out since February; if any of us went out and they know, a certain percentage of the person’s salary would be deducted. "Even on Monday when this man (one of his co-workers) sent someone to buy water, N500 was deducted from his salary that has yet to be paid." Another employee said the Chinese couple deducted N3,000 from his salary because he went out to fill his pension form. However, it's been revealed that when the domestic staff got to the police station, they refused to narrate the details of their ordeal to police and also denied claims that the couple held them against their will. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoGpcc9H1mU The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N20,366,454,990 for some projects to be executed across the country through four ministries. The ministers in charge of the four ministries addressed State House Correspondents on Wednesday in Abuja after the council’s meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari. Works and Housing Minister Babatunde Fasola; Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Mohammed Bello; Water Resources Minister Suleiman Adamu and Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika, said the memoranda they presented at the FEC were approved. Bello said he presented two memoranda for road projects: the road linking Yaba to Gurdi in Abaji Area Council of the FCT and the third phase of the roads within Abaji, at a cost of N6.7 billion. “The first is for the award for the construction of the road linking Yaba to Gurdi Road in Abaji Area Council, at N4,648,255,381.42 with a completion period of 20 months. “The second contract is for the third phase of the construction of roads within the city of Abaji, which is in the southern tip of the FCT. This is about 8.4 kilometres and it’s intended to complete and complement the other roads that were already there. This contract has been approved for N2,128,176,102.50 with the completion period of six months,” he said. Sirika said the project approved for his ministry was for works on the taxiway at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, which will gulp about N2.3 billion. “The Aviation Ministry presented a memo, which is for revised estimated total cost for the extension on asphalt overlay of the MMIA runway, reconstruct and rehabilitate the taxiway at N2,272,838,724.84 with a 12-month completion period. This central taxiway is critical to the operations of Lagos. It improves the efficiency and safety of the airport. It’s been abandoned for the past 16 years,” he said. Adamu said his ministry got approval for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Lankang Irrigation Project in Plateau State for N634.2 million. He said the ministry was working to increase the nation’s irrigation capacity from 130,000 to 500,000 under a scheme running from 2016 to 2030. “The ministry presented a memo to Council today (yesterday) on the rehabilitation and construction of Lankang Irrigation Project in Plateau State. This contract was approved for N634,184,783.93, inclusive of 7.5 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT), with the completion period of 18 months and a defect liability period of 12 months. “It comprises the rehabilitation of 100 hectares of an existing pilot irrigation scheme and the expansion of that irrigation scheme by additional 500 hectares. It also includes the reconstruction of existing damage water control and conveying structure, preparation of fields and fishponds and provision of adequate water for irrigation. “It was approved in line with government’s policy to boost food production and security. In the coming months, we will be seeing quite a number of projects related to irrigation that we’ll be presenting in line with our irrigation and drainage project in what we call the National Irrigation and Drainage Programme, 2016 to 2030, under which we hope to increase total acreage for irrigation in the country from the current 130,000 hectares to 500,000 hectares. “From the period that we started till date, our target was to have 100,000 hectares by 2020. As at January, we had about 85,000 hectares, which is already completed. So, we are still on target towards attaining the 100,000 for 2020, under the programme,” he said. Fasola said his ministry’s two memoranda with over N10.6 billion for project cost revision before the FEC were approved. “What we had were two memoranda for revision of project costs and they are in aid of completion of the projects involved. The first project is the Koton-Karfe-Lokoja section of Abuja-Abaji-Lokoja highway. That cost was revised upwards by N3.076 billion. “The second road is the Cham-Numan section of the Gombe-Yola highway. The revision of the cost is by N7.607 billion. This is to cover the cost of replacing about 11 kilometres of what we call black cotton soil,” he said. SOURCE: https://thenationonlineng.net/fec-approves-n20-366b-projects-for-four-ministries/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy92ssOHCfo FALLOUT OF ‘FIGHT’ WITH KEYAMO: NASS tells Buhari to suspend recruitment of 774,000 Nigerians The National Assembly has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend the plan to recruit 774,000 Nigerians for Special Public Works across the country. This followed the spat members of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Labour, Employee and Productivity had with the Minister for State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo when he appeared before them on Tuesday. Keyamo on Tuesday had a sharp disagreement with the joint committee over the composition of the 20-member Selection Committee for the programme in each of the 36 states of the federation. The Minister had rejected the decision of the committee to interact with him behind closed doors, insisting that they do so before cameras of journalists present at the public hearing. The faceoff however led to an executive session by the Senate on Wednesday apparently to deliberate on the fiasco between the Minister and the lawmakers. According to sources, lawmakers at the executive session that lasted for about two hours, expressed shock at the behavour of Keyamo and his insistence that the National Assembly cannot direct him on what to do concerning the recruitment. In a statement signed by the Chairman Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Ajibola Basiru and his House of Representatives counterpart, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the federal lawmakers insisted that the implementation of the programme must be put on hold until its modalities are explained to the National Assembly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEpxCekKnAA President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on Tuesday charged the Inspector-General of Police to provide timelines for the implementation of the community policing in the country. Lawan gave the charge when the Police I-G, Mohammed Adamu and his management team called at the National Assembly for an interactive session with the Senate Committee on Police Affairs. The Senate President told Adamu and his team to come up with milestones and timelines template for the implementation of the Community Policing in Nigeria. “Going forward from today, we must have clearly defined milestones and timelines on the implementation of the Community Policing. “Something that we can go back to in three months, in six months and say where we are exactly. “You might have been implementing the Community Policing and this meeting is an opportunity for you to give us an update of which States you have implemented the Community Policing and those states that you have not, we need a programme, timeline of activities,” Lawan was quoted by a statement signed on Tuesday by his Special Adviser (Media), Ola Awoniyi. The Senate President told the Police authorities to always carry the relevant parliamentary Committees along in what they are doing on the Community Policing to give the scheme a life of its own. Lawan also said there would be a need to recruit more men and women to shore up the present number that is inadequate for the present security challenges. “And if we have to recruit, then we have to train. We have to support our training institutions. “We believe, in the National Assembly, that the security situation in the country requires that we make it number one priority for government because in the Constitution, it is Security and welfare. Security comes first. “So no amount of public or government investment will be too much. I know that we have paucity of funds but we have to be ingenious. “We have to find a way of strengthening our security agencies and the Police is so important in this respect. “So we will talk about recruitment. And of course the training institutions and even your barracks. “I want to assure you that in the National Assembly, all we care for is One: the Security of lives and property because this is redefining our entire life. “I believe it’s something that, when we put heads together, we can find a solution. Even if we cannot resolve everything, we should be able to find a way out to improve the security situation of our country,” Lawan said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OP3KRcw1Xp0 Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team have arrested members of a kidnap syndicate, who allegedly killed three of their victims, after collecting N7.5 million ransom from their family members. The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, disclosed this in Abuja on Monday, while parading 26 suspects arrested for kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and other sundry offences. According to Mba, the kidnap syndicate had abducted one Dr Ausu Benedict, his son, and a friend on their way to Abuja. While in captivity, the suspects were said to have contacted the families of their victims, who subsequently paid a total of N7 million to secure the abductees’ release. “Before the ransom was paid, the suspects had forced Benedict to raise a cheque of N500,000 which was successfully cashed,” the police said. Mba, however, regretted that the syndicate went ahead to kill their victims, notwithstanding the payment of ransom. He stated, “Among the suspects, we have a kidnap syndicate that specialises in terrorising people of the North Central zone. “A ransom of N7 million was paid by the family of Dr Audu Benedict, “While in captivity, the doctor also raised a cheque of N500,000, bringing the total to N7.5 million. “After collecting the ransom, they went ahead to kill the doctor, son, and family friend. He further disclosed that the gang also kidnapped one Veronica Aboyi, who was related to one of the suspects. Two of the suspects – Gwar Henry, and Bello admitted to the crime. The police said a total of six AK47 rifles, three pump-action rifles, and other weapons were recovered from the gang. Meanwhile, the police said they rescued a total of six children “stolen sometime last year”. SOURCE: https://punchng.com/kidnappers-kill-doctor-son-after-collecting-n7-5m-ransom-police/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ztFR2a3m5I BODE OLAGOKE, in this piece, writes on the developments that led to the sacking of the crisis-ridden national working committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. Takeover The current political development the in ruling APC has indeed changed the dynamics and permutations of the old order for 2023 which may likely pave the way for the emergence of new gladiators. The decision by the National Executive Council (NEC) to dissolve the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole-led NWC took the APC national leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu camp by surprise. It was a culmination of a grand design to whittle the overwhelming influence of the Jagaban Borgu who is believed to be nursing presidential ambition in 2023. Oshiomhole is a known ally of the Jagaban. If the majority of political analysts are not wrong, with the emergence of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state as caretaker chairman of the party, the members of the Progressive Governors Forum have successfully wrestled control of the party structures from the Jagaban of Borgu. How it all started The first executive governor of Edo state, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who succeeded the Chief Bisi Akande-led interim committee, had a turbulent stewardship until he left office in June 2018, following a voice vote that produced Adams Oshiomhole at a national convention held at the Eagles Square in Abuja. Exactly two years, three days today (Saturday), the Oshiomhole-led NWC emerged with high hopes from party members that the former Labour leader would bring more fortunes to the ruling party, from where Chief John Oyegun-led NWC stopped. However, the fortunes of the party drastically reduced by seven states, in addition to a badly managed governorship election victory Bayelsa state. The state lost under Oshiomhole-led NWC are Oyo, Bauchi, Adamawa, Sokoto, Benue, Zamfara and Edo. Apart from losing those states, some members saw Oshiomhole’s leadership as divisive, vindictive, arrogant, lacking in forgiving spirit and always ready to attack whoever was against their interest. For example, the Adams Oshiomhole-led NWC practically made the national secretariat of the party redundant soon after he emerged by setting up a parallel secretariat of his own at Aso Drive area of Abuja. Party staff and others who had businesses to do with the national chairman’s office ‘must kiss the dust, at Aso Drive; even the members of the NWC were described as “Pas” to Oshiomhole’s exalted office. Oshiomhole vs Obaseki The last war between Comrade Oshiomhole and the now PDP governor of his home state, Godwin Obaseki, worsened the crisis of confidence between Oshiomhole and his party’s governors operating under the aegis of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF). The Edo state House of Assembly, since July 2019, has been polarised into pro and anti-Obaseki lawmakers, following the defeat of the APC national chairman’s favoured person for the office of speaker of the state assembly, Victor Edoror, by Frank Okiye (Esan North-east constituency I), the anointed candidate of Governor Obaseki. Despite the insistence of Comrade Oshiomhole and the intervention by the National Assembly that Governor Obaseki issue a fresh letter of proclamation, the latter stood his ground. He dismissed the political debacle in the state assembly as a non-issue. The governors of the APC made several efforts to beg and convince the party’s national leader, Tinubu, to prevail on Oshiomhole, but the later reportedly ignored the advice and rejected the plead of PGF delegation to Bourdilon in Lagos. On returning from the Bourdilion, the same PGF delegation visited Oshiomhole at the national secretariat, but all efforts to prevail on the former Edo state governor to forgive his successor failed as Oshiomhole refused to change his stand. Obaseki thereafter left the party with his deputy and all his structures in Edo APC after the drama that trailed the party primary screening exercise which saw to Obaseki’s disqualification on the basis of the same certificates he used to contest governorship election in 2016. Alleged constitutional breaches under Oshiomhole The NWC led by Oshiomhole was accused of breaching provision of the constitution when they changed the existing Edo state Secretariat of the party on May 29, 2020, without recourse to NEC, in a letter addressed to the chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), inviting the Commission to take note of the new address of the state secretariat without approval of NEC. The anti-Oshiomhole also said since the inception of the sacked NWC, there was neither a compilation of register of members nor membership update every six months as provided by the Constitution. The party’s constitution provides for number of times necessary party organs are expected to meet. However, since the inception of Oshiomhole-led NWC, the national executive committee did not meet in line with the provision of the Constitution of the party. The appointment of some national officers of the party by the National Working Committee (NWC) under the leadership of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was allegedly done in violation (ultra vires) of the Constitution of the party. The power to do so, in the absence of a National Convention, rests with the NEC of the party as well as the appointments of deputy national chairman (South); national secretary, and national auditor in breach of APC constitution. Those who campaigned for the sack of Oshiomhole NWC also accused him among others that the adoption of guidelines for election and regulations for election into party offices and selecting candidates for elective offices were done without NEC approval and that even the regulations used recently in conducting primary elections in Edo state on Monday, June 22, 2020, was not proposed to the NEC for ratification. Polarised NWC Before the NEC meeting, a faction emerged among the national officers of the party. While Hilliard Eta was leading a group loyal to Oshiomhole who had earlier suspended by his ward, a decision upheld by both the High Court and Appeal Court, a supposed deputy national secretary of the party, Chief Victor Giadom, was also leading another faction relying on a court order making him the acting national chairman. Giadom’s earlier call for a meeting of the NEC was surprisingly backed by President Muhammad Buhari against the will of pro-Oshiomhole NWC. Although, the said majority of NWC members cried that the Thursday’s NEC meeting was unconstitutional, in a political party, NEC meeting is the second highest decision making body. The governors’ coup Key members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) in the mould of governors Nasir Ahmed el-Rufai, Kayode Fayemi, Rotimi Akeredolu, Simon Lalong, Abubakar Badaru and Atiku Bagudu who had been working underground to achieve the goal latched in on the leadership crisis that rocked the party to score momentary victory against Tinubu, whose the sacked NWC was said to be protecting. With Governor Mai Mala Buni Yobe state in the saddle albeit for six months on caretaker basis, the forum of APC governors may have succeeded in swinging the pendulum to their side ahead of the 2023 Presidency. It is, however, unlikely if Tinubu’s interest could be protected with the presence of just one of his key ally, Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun state, in the thirteen-member caretaker committee which is a mix grill of party stakeholders from diverse background. The gains of APC crisis When contacted to react to the development in the party, the director-general of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Salihu Lukman, said, “It is the responsibility of the Convention Working Committee to ensure that all the rascally conducts of party leaders that characterised the APC leadership conflict are brought under control. We should on no account tolerate conduct of any leader of the party, which makes them more associated with activities of bandits who don’t respect any rule or any leader. “Finally, it needs to be emphatically stated that APC leaders have put to shame all the bullish media analysis that attempted to divide them. Our APC leaders have resoundingly demonstrated that it is healthy to disagree, but it is not impossible to have a consensus, no matter the disagreement. So-called media analysts can project whatever conclusions based on their fantasies; it doesn’t stop our leaders from having a rational consideration of proposals before them. The critical question will be, are Nigerians ready and willing to support this brand of politics and encourage it to become mainstream politics? Buni’s assurance The new caretaker committee of the APC headed by governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state, has aassured that his committee will resolve all the crisis rocking the party and do justice to all the members. Buni said without justice there can never be peace, promising to carry all the members along within the short period his committee will be in place. “I am a team player and am here to manage a crisis and if you do not manage crisis, crisis will manage you so without justice there will be no peace, so am ready to do justice to every APC member. “NEC is the highest organ of the party except the convention, and NEC can function for convention in-between, so any decision taken by NEC is the final decision.” Conclusion The historical event APC NEC meeting, however reminds one of the rise and fall of Ashante-Fante empire in 1806. The question now begging for an answer is whether APC drifting to relocate the golden stool that has already been dropped into the webs of political abyss. Notwithstanding the NEC has finally axed the troubled making NWC and immediately set in motion a caretaker committee to convene hitch free convention to help champion a new course for the party leadership. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msfDusVVMBE The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has emerged as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the September gubernatorial election in the state. He was announced after ratification by party delegates following the withdrawal of his main rival, Kenneth Imasuagbon. With this development, Obaseki will face his main rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the main election. At least seven other parties have concluded their primaries and selected candidates for the governorship election, according to the electoral commission, INEC. The PDP primary was supervised by the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and his Zamfara and Oyo counterparts, Bello Mattawalle and Seyi Makinde. Meanwhile, the Board of Trustees, BoT of the PDP on Thursday congratulated Governor Obaseki for his victory, urging all and sundry to work together to deliver the state to the party in September. In a statement by its chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, the BoT called for formidable unity among party members so that PDP will emerge the ruling party in 2023. The Board of Trustees also congratulated the NWC of the party and the PDP governors for their tireless efforts in bringing Obaseki into the party fold. He also thanked the state executives and other members of the BoT for their efforts in sustaining the party. The statement reads: “On behalf of over 100 PDP BoT members, who serve as the conscience of the party, I wish to sincerely congratulate first the entire people of Edo state inclusive of all political parties, especially members of our party PDP who encouraged Governor Obaseki to quickly move to PDP. “My biggest congratulations go to Governor Obaseki who quickly understood the All Progressives Congress, APC dirty game in their effort to mock and disgrace him. “I want to appeal to the leadership and all members of PDP to continue to make our party stronger and more united in our efforts to govern Nigeria come 2023. The party should shun actions that will not bring progress. The BoT is ever ready to work with party members especially our NWC and governors. “We congratulate all the South-South governors for producing all PDP governors from their zone and appeal to other governors to do the same. “I want to assure the party and all members that BoT is one and united and is ever ready to carry out its responsibilities as the conscience of the party.” Earlier, three governorship aspirants of the PDP in Edo stepped down for Gov Godwin Obaseki to contest in order to sustain unity in the party. Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who was chairman PDP Edo Governorship Primary Committee, said this during the governorship primary on Thursday at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin. He said the aspirants took the steps to minimise and avoid party rancour ahead of the September 19 governorship election. The aspirants were House of Representative member, Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Chief Gideon Ikini and Mr. Ken Imasuagbon. Mohammed noted that there had been adjustments and synergy among the aspirants, adding that aspirants would be given the opportunity to address delegates on their decisions. He said that the party had respect for internal democracy, adding that in spite of internal wrangling, the party had always put the interest of Nigeria first. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the four aspirants, held hands in unity and danced to songs at the podium. The aspirants, who took turns to address delegates, said they dropped their ambitions because they were convinced that Obaseki would continue with his developmental stride which aligned with their mission. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hh5fYLuq70A The Federal House of Representatives on Tuesday agreed to initiate a forensic audit of the activities of the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NigComSat) Limited from inception to date sequel to the adoption of a motion on the ‘Need to investigate the alleged sleaze, misappropriation and non-profitability of the NigComSat Limited,’ sponsored by the Minority Leader, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu; reported Tribune. Hon Elumelu mentioned that the establishment of NigComSat was to develop the information and communications technology system in Nigeria, as well as to improve national security, broadcasting, internet access, e-governance, health and the educational sectors of the country. Unfortunately, it has failed to achieve its objectives. Incorporated in 2006 and wholly owned by the Federal Government, NigComSat’s scorecard remains unsatisfactory. Hon. Elumelu noted: The House is aware that it costs the Nigerian Government the sum of USD 340 million of taxpayers money to build the NigComSat-l and a further N43.500 billion from the federal allocation as running cost and another USD 127 million as debt servicing to the Chinese Government, but there is little or nothing to show for these huge investments. The House is concerned that while the fixed-satellite service business has proven lucrative in so many countries with a worth estimate of the global space as high as N126 trillion and 75% of this coming from commercial revenues, NigComSat is yet to get a slice of the pie and has generated zero revenue. The House is disturbed that even though the company has not been able to make contributions to the nation’s revenue, it has been riddled with series of allegations ranging from contract scam to the tune of N8 billion to bribery of government agents and withholding of vital documents to ensure the cover-up of the massive irregularities against the management of the company. The House is also disturbed that at a time, a managing director of the company was alleged to have wrongfully declared her assets and signed off the company’s Direct-to-Home (DTH) facility to NIGUS International Investment Ltd (a company owned by the father in law of the Head of DTH) after she acquired shares in NIGUS through proxies. The House is worried by the allegations that the management of the company breached government policy on procurement by ensuring that procurement matters are handled strictly between the offices of the managing director and that of the legal adviser, which is a breach of the country’s financial regulations. The House is also worried that between September and December 2011, the Management of NIGCOMSAT paid Fasaha Intercontinental Insurance Brokers Ltd the sum of N5,893,920,000 for Insurance premium of the launch of NIGCOMSAT-1R Satellite which is a non-consultant job that requires the approval of the Federal Executive Council, such unguarded expenditures have made the company unable to meet the financial obligations owed to the nation and if left unchecked, will result in further loss of the nation’s scarce revenue. To this end, the House mandated the Committees on Information Technology (ICT) and Finance to carry out a forensic audit of the activities of the NIGCOMSAT Limited from inception to date and report back within four weeks for further legislative action. Budget for NigcomSat between 2009 and 2019, was about ₦41.4 billion (approximately USD 200 million) with a 2020 budget of ₦3,473,046,717 (USD 9.54 million). On the other hand, Egypt’s NileSat, currently Africa’s largest satellite operator valued at over $586 million, used to be government-owned as well. But its fortunes improved after it went public. In 2018, Space in Africa noted, it made a revenue of up to $145 million. Telesat, which was previously owned by the Canadian Government, has a similar history. Following its privatisation in 2007, its worth has more than doubled from $2.8 billion to $7 billion and the company is currently the world’s fourth-largest FSS provider. Space in Africa has projected while analysing the future of the Nigerian Space Agency and the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited that NigComSat might be sold by the government very soon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRylqSFeutM The Centre for Africa Liberation and Socio-Economic Rights (CALSER) stormed the Embassy of the United States of America in Abuja on Tuesday to express its displeasure over the killing of African-American George Floyd and other Blacks living in the United States. Floyd died on May 25th in Minnesota, in the US state of Minneapolis, during an arrest. The Convener of CALSER, Princess Ajibola, condemned the killing of Floyd while in police custody, adding that: ‘No one has the right to inflict torture or to subject anyone else to cruel or inhuman treatment.’ The protesters vowed that they would no longer tolerate the ill-treatment of fellow Blacks by law enforcement officers in the United States. The group issued a statement, which reads: ‘The Centre for Africa Liberation and Socio-Economic Rights have in numerous stated that it is indeed time for the Blacks and Africans to take their destinies into their hands if we must survive the fangs of the Whites whose desire is to see to the extinction of the entire Black race in the world. ‘This is over 50 years down the line when the Late Martin Luther King spoke about the emancipation of Blacks in the United States of America. Yet, the very issues he canvassed are still present in the United States of America. ‘We are not unmindful that some of us have come here out of great trials and tribulation. Some of us have come fresh from narrow jail cells. Some of you have come from where our quest for freedom left us battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. ‘These words of Martin Luther King reverberate till date in the United States of America and other western climes. And the question is: should we suffer untold hardship and persecution just because of the colour of our skin? ‘Should our children, brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers continue to be killed because we are Blacks? We are gathered here to register our displeasure with the happenings in the United States of America where Black lives do not matter,’ Ajibola said. CALSER called on the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, to convey its message to President Donald Trump. ‘Our message is simple. Black Lives Matter and racial discrimination must stop in the interest of peace, unity and progress. If this does not stop, Africans must take their destinies into their hands and fight for their rights because according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), we are all born free. We all have our thoughts and ideas, and we should all be treated the same way. ‘The rights in the UDHR belong to everyone, no matter who we are, where we’re from, or whatever we believe. We all have the right to life and to live in freedom and safety. No one should be held as a slave, and no one has the right to treat anyone else as their slave. ‘No one has the right to inflict torture or to subject anyone else to cruel or inhuman treatment. Nobody has the right to enter our home, open our mail, or intrude on our families without good reason. We also have the right to be protected if someone tries to damage our reputation unfairly,’ the group also said. However, an official of the United States Embassy who attended to the protesters, received a protest letter on behalf of the United States Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orq3ReT7yoM Don't know if it is because of the rainy season that's we are entering which normally results in increased cases of accidents, or if it is because of the few cars that are on the road these days because of the curfew which makes most motorists drive with reckless abandon in Abuja. I witnessed two accidents today; one was a lone accident in Games Village roundabout, where a Jaguar XJ lost control and rammed into the roundabout. The second accident was in Airport road, close to River park estate, and involved a Ford SUV and Golf. Guys, please, let us all try to be careful on the road this period. Stay safe.
