Politics(VIDEO) Race For NASSLAF Leadership Hots Up In NASS by MRSAWEDOFF(op): 2:17pm On Aug 13, 2020

Ahead of fresh election for executives of the National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum ( NASSLAF), many Aides to some of the serving federal lawmakers have expressed interest.

One of the interested legislative aide eying the Chairmanship position of the body , is the Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Theodore Orji ( PDP Abia Central), Barrister Emeka Nwala .

Nwala at a press briefing on Wednesday at the premises of the National Assembly , describes aides of lawmakers as their engine room that drives their robust legislative activities.

According to him, in repositioning the entire membership of NASSLAF under his leadership for better performance, it will collaborate with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies ( NILDS) , for capacity building trainings from time to time .

” We shall also interface with management to ensure that the welfare of aides as well as their trainings , are given priority attention ” , he said .

He recalled how the forum overcame its teething problems in the 6th National Assembly, but got deteriorated in the 7th and 8th Assembly to the extent that allowances of aides became a non issue.

“The need to place all members of NASSLAF under one umbrella has long been canvassed and encapsulated in a formal body which kick started and achieved a lot on grounds in the 6th National Assembly.

“We in the executive rallied the support of all members within NASS complex and at the Constitutuencies to present cohesive and logical request to NASS management for consideration and implementation resulting in what members enjoyed in the 6th and part of 7th Assembly”, he explained.

He decried delayed salaries and allowances of aides, stressing that it was affecting their productivity, but commended the present leadership for their intervention in payment of severance packages of the 8th National Assembly legislative aides.

“I keenly watched the succeeding administrations of the 7th and 8th Assemblies and make bold to say that a lot went wrong and we all as members were the ultimate lovers.

“Salaries were delayed, allowances were deprived and denied, training became stories and non-issues as the main motive was sniffles. To worsen matters, Congress was muscled to lose its cohesion and voice.

” All these , will surely be things of the past if mandated to head the body by majority of the other legislative aides during the forth coming election”, he said.

PoliticsMoney Laundering: Trial Of Ex-agf Stalled, Adjourned Till August 13 (VIDEO) by MRSAWEDOFF(op): 1:38pm On Aug 11, 2020

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_XT--T0HDk

The trial of the former Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Adoke has been stalled.

Mr. Adoke’s trial was stalled due to the failure of the prosecutor to serve the defendants with the proof of evidence and statement of the witness.

The former AGF was arraigned today alongside Aliyu Abubakar who is an Abuja based businessman, before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court.
Adoke Pleads Not Guilty

During the last sitting, the defendants pleaded not guilty to a 14-count charge filed against them bordering on money laundering.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had in June filed an additional seven charges against the former AGF over money laundering allegations involving about N400 million.

Mr Adoke’s trial was expected to begin last week but it was stalled due to the amended charges.

The initial charge contained seven counts, with six of them relating to Mr. Adoke.

At the resumed trial, the prosecutor, Bala Sanga, informed the court of an amended charge he filed on July 29 which was served on all the defendants.

The trial judge, Justice Ekwo who frowned at the late filing of the amended charge adjourned the trial on the ground that he is yet to sight the amended charges.

In the former seven counts, the EFCC alleged that the defendants committed the money laundering offences involving over N400 million in Abuja, in September 2013.

In the counts relating to Mr Adoke, he was accused of among others, receiving the dollar equivalent of N300 million from Abubakar, paying the dollar equivalent of N367,318,800 to one Usman Mohammed Bello, and allegedly using the sum of N300 million, which was alleged to be part of the proceeds of unlawful activities, all in violations of various provisions of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2011.

He was also accused of making “structured cash payments, in 22 tranches” amounting to N80 million, another of such structured payments in 13 tranches summing up to N50 million into his Unity Bank account.

The commission alleged that the funds were not only part of the proceeds of unlawful acts but they also exceeded “thresholds outside a financial institution,” and that the payments were done with the intention of concealing the origins of the funds contrary to Section 15(2(a) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011 and punishable under section 15(3) of the same law.

The former AGF was granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja on February 10, 2020, in the sum of N50m with one surety in like sum.

The case has been adjourned till August 13, 2020.

Edo 2020: Tinubu, Oshiomhole, Ganduje’ll bring calamity to Nigeria – Obaseki’s Deputy, Shaibu

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, on Monday warned that Bola Tinubu, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC; ex-APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje are working towards creating a great calamity in Nigeria.

The Deputy Governor warned Edo indigenes to stay away from the APC leaders because they will bring calamity to the state.

The Deputy Governor, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media, Benjamin Atu also urged people of the state to distance themselves from APC governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

He accused them of putting Nigeria’s unity, nascent democracy, security and economic wellbeing on the line.

In a statement, the Deputy Governor said: ‘ the ’Former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and some members of the Edo State House of Assembly are inviting a far greater calamity on Nigeria. Their actions have sent wrong signals to members of the international community.

“The people of Edo State should distance themselves from Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “Oshiomhole, Bola Tinubu and Ganduje as symbols of impunity.”

He also berated Tinubu and Oshiomhole over their alleged undemocratic conduct over the crisis rocking the state House of Assembly.

Oshiomhole, Tinubu and some members of the Edo State House of Assembly, the political ditch Oshiomhole plunged himself into, the creation of a polity with high public morality and the way Obaseki went about meeting the people’s expectations,” he said.

Shaibu also emphasized the complete subservience of Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu to some alleged masters in Lagos, Kano and
Imo States amounted to massive coercion, lies, hypocrisy and masquerading.

‘’Edo State cannot return to subservience. We must put an end to godfatherism. Governor Godwin Obaseki is an asset and knows the needs and interests of the common people. Governor Obaseki also understands the essential features of Edo State and he is acting on this understanding to change them and make them serve the common people,’’ he said.

PoliticsVIDEO: Moment Wike Tackles Oshiomhole On Obaseki’s Certificate by MRSAWEDOFF(op): 12:29pm On Aug 10, 2020

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0wEH8K7io4

Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has denounced claims by former Edo Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor Godwin Obaseki lacked required academic credentials to contest the September 19 poll.

Wike, said Oshiomhole did not have the moral standing to question his successor’s qualifications.

The Governor, who is also Chairman of PDP National Campaign Council for the Edo 2020 Governorship Election, dismissed issues surrounding Obaseki’s certificates.

Reacting to comments by Oshiomhole during the flag off of the APC Governorship Campaign in Edo, Wike berated the former APC National Chairman for his continued claims despite affirmation by the University of Ibadan that Obaseki is an alumnus.

Wike challenged Oshiomhole to present his academic certificate and stop discouraging Edo people from voting a candidate he once claimed was the brainbox of his administration’s achievements.

He said: “The certificate claims about Governor Obaseki by the former APC National Chairman is a non-issue because he is the best candidate for Edo State.

“It is unfortunate that we are in a country that somebody that does not have a certificate will question the one that has.

“Oshiomhole has trade test which is not an academic qualification. I challenge him to show the world his academic qualification.

“Oshiomhole is trying to tell Edo people whatever he decides is what will be and this is an opportunity for Edo people to say no.

“His claim that if APC loses the election they will secure the mandate through the courts is a total confirmation that the party cannot win the Edo election through the ballot box.

“Securing victory through the courts will be null and void as there are still Judges in Nigeria with conscience who cannot dance to the tune of the APC”.

PoliticsSouthern Kaduna Massacre Of 184: Protests In Kaduna, Lagos, Abuja Over Killing by MRSAWEDOFF(op): 7:46am On Aug 10, 2020

Southern Kaduna massacre: Protests in Kaduna, Lagos, Abuja over 184 killed by bandits

Protesters took to the streets of Kaduna, Lagos and Abuja on Saturday morning to protest over what they described as “genocide” taking place in the southern part of Kaduna State and the government’s inability to stop the killings.

The protest took place about 48 hours after suspected Fulani militiamen unleashed fresh attacks on Apiashyim, Kibori, Atakmawei, Apyiako, and Magamiya villages in Southern Kaduna.

In the wake of the attacks, the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union said 33 people were killed. But the police gave the casualty figure as 21.

The National Youth Leader of SOKAPU, John Isaac, said in Kaduna, the protesters stormed the streets of Samaru-Kataf, Zonkwa and Mabushi areas in the Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.

Isaac said solidarity protests were also held in the Maryland, Ikeja area of Lagos, while in Abuja, the protesters convened at the Unity Fountain to demand an end to the incessant killings.

Amid the continuous killing and kidnapping of Southern Kaduna natives, SOKAPU stated that between January 1 and August 5, over 184 persons were killed by militant herdsmen.

Over the same period, the union said over 76 persons were kidnapped even as the whereabouts of some of the victims remained unknown till today. More than 9,000 had also reportedly been displaced by the marauding militiamen.

Angered by the killing spree in their communities, Southern Kaduna people on Saturday marched in different parts of the state, demanding an immediate end to the massacre.

The protesters were joined by leaders of some sociopolitical groups in the country, including Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Pan Niger Delta Forum, and the Middle Belt Forum.

The groups’ leaders, who paid a solidarity visit to the region, sympathised with the natives in their trying times. They also visited some internally displaced persons and sought the quick intervention of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in ending the crisis.

Clad in dark attire, the protesters, in their hundreds, carried placards with inscriptions reading: “Enough is enough,” “We cannot continue like this,” “Southern Kaduna lives matter,” “Government has failed us,” “Allow us to defend ourselves if you can’t,” and “End killings in Southern Kaduna,” among others.

Some of the protesters stormed the streets of Samaru-Kataf, Zonkwa and Mabushi areas in the Zangon Kataf LGA despite a 24-hour curfew imposed by the state Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai.

The Zangon Kataf branch chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev Isaac Makama, said the protest was a demonstration of the natives’ displeasure with the government’s handling of the insecurity situation.

“Let government rise up and protect the people because it is sad to see that people will just sit in their homes and get killed for no just cause, and these killers were never arrested even with the huge security around,” he said.

The protesters also marched to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation junction in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

However, anti-riot policemen stormed the venue of the protest and arrested the protest leaders and some other demonstrators.

Confirming the arrest, the state police command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said it was because the protesters did not inform the police before embarking on the protest.

“Some of them were arrested because they did not inform us of the procession,” Jalige told one of our correspondents, adding that he could not give the number of those arrested.

“I cannot tell you how many of them were picked up now but I will get back to you later,” he said. However, he did not do so as of press time.

Meanwhile, leaders of the various sociopolitical groups berated the government for not ending the Southern Kaduna crisis.

The groups also announced a collective donation of N2m aid to the IDPs at the Goni-Gora IDPs’ camp.

The National Chairman of PANDEF, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (retd.), who condoled with the IDPs, said the forum was instructed to pay the solidarity visit by its national leader, Chief Edwin Clark.

Also at the IDPs’ camp, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo, told the President, to save the country from an imminent collapse following the spate of insecurity in the country.

Nwodo, who was represented by the President of the Ohanaeze group in Kaduna State, Chief Ben Churchill-Aniekwena, said what was happening in Southern Kaduna was pathetic.

“At this stage, may I draw the attention of all the state apparatuses – I mean the police and other security forces; the judiciary, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, to do the needful to save this country from a total and imminent collapse. Enough is enough!” he said.

On his part, Afenifere spokesperson, Mr Yinka Odumakin, tackled the Presidency for being the “mouthpiece of the attackers,” adding that it was shameful that security forces were looking the other way while genocide was happening in Southern Kaduna.

“Our position is that for the South-South, South-West, South-East, and the Middle Belt, whoever attacks one attacks all. So, the attacks on Southern Kaduna are attacks on all of us,” he said.

Also speaking, the President of the Middle Belt Forum, Dr Bitrus Pogu, renewed the call for the restructuring of the country, saying if the Southern Kaduna people had their own police, they wouldn’t suffer the persistent attacks by suspected Fulani militia.

The National President of SOKAPU, Mr Jonathan Asake, appreciated the sociopolitical groups’ leaders for the solidarity visit; he said it was a mark of a genuine concern for humanity.

The Coordinator of the Mercy IDPs’ camp, Rev Gambo Waziri, decried that the state government had not shown any care to the IDPs.

He said with the latest attacks on Thursday, the camp’s population had surged to over 3,000 displaced persons.

Amnesty Int’l condemns police clampdown, demands protesters’ release

A global human rights organisation, Amnesty International, on Saturday knocked the police in Kaduna State for clamping down on residents protesting the continuous Southern Kaduna killings, saying those arrested “must be released immediately.”

Amnesty International, in a series of tweets, also demanded that the federal and state governments end the killings in the region.

The AI said it could confirm that three protesters were picked up on Saturday in the state, stressing that protest was a human right.

AI said, “Amnesty International condemns the crackdown on protests and the arrest of three protesters today in Kaduna by security forces. We call on authorities to respect and protect the right to freedom of assembly. Those arrested must be released immediately in Southern Kaduna.

“The Nigerian authorities must do more to end the incessant killings in Southern Kaduna and investigate all previous violence in the area. Perpetrators must be brought to justice and lives must be protected in Southern Kaduna and other parts of Nigeria facing frequent violence.”

184 killed, 76 kidnapped in seven months –SOKAPU

Meanwhile, SOKAPU has said between January 1 and August 5, over 184 persons were killed in attacks unleashed on communities by suspected Fulani militiamen.

In a document titled, ‘Fulani militia atrocities in Southern Kaduna from January 1 to August 5,’ and signed by the national spokesperson for SOKAPU, Mr Luka Binniyat, the union detailed the number of casualties recorded as a result of attacks by suspected Fulani militiamen within the past seven months.

For example, in January, the union recorded at least 42 deaths and over 50 kidnap cases in communities in Southern Kaduna.

Also, on February 13, militiamen reportedly invaded an open market In Maro village in Kajuru Local Government Area, killed eight people and caused severe injuries on many others.

On March 1, the bandits also attacked Matsirga village in the Zangon Kataf LGA, where they killed two persons and wounded five others.

In April, SOKAPU said it documented 44 deaths and 12 kidnap cases in several communities.

Also, according to the union, 30 natives were killed between May 18 and 24 in villages such as Magunguna, Idazo, Unguwan Galadima, Unguwan Guza, and Etissi in the Idon Ward of Kajuru Local Government Area.

In June, the union said villages such as Agwalla Magayaki and Tudun Agwalla in the Kajuru Local Government Area were attacked, resulting in the murder of nine persons, including five children.

In July, 21 deaths were recorded in some communities in Southern Kaduna.

In August, the latest attacks reportedly took place from Wednesday to Thursday in Apiashyim, Kibori, Atakmawei, Apyiako, and Magamiya villages. In the wake of the attacks, SOKAPU said 33 people were killed, although the police gave the casualty figure as 21.

SOKAPU’s spokesperson, Binniyat, further said more people were being kidnapped and killed on a daily basis, adding that some of the killings were undocumented because they were not reported.

The union bemoaned the after-effects of the worsening insecurity. For instance, the union said in the eastern part of Chikun Local Government Area, 27 schools and over 65 churches had been shut before the COVID-19 pandemic started.

SOKAPU also quoted the Christian Association of Nigeria as stating that in the past one year, a ransom of over N400m had been paid to kidnappers “by these impoverished societies.”

The union said as of today, villagers numbering over 9,000 had been displaced by the marauding militiamen.

“The displaced are now taking refuge in nearby towns under tough conditions in this grim period of coronavirus pandemic,” Binniyat said.

Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu raises alarm: Oshiomhole plotting to assassinate some top individuals in Edo

The Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, has raised the alarm over the importation of assassins by the sacked National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, to assassinate some individuals in the state.

Speaking to journalists in Benin City, the Edo State capital, Shaibu said the mode of entry and activities of the suspected assassins have been communicated to security agencies.

Shaibu said: “This is to bring to the notice of Edo people and the country at large that we have received intelligence that some individuals are in Edo State, courtesy of the former National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole.

“The assignment is to come and assassinate some known individuals in the state.

“I am hereby bringing to the notice of the general public that these people are in town.

“We have informed the security agencies about their activities and why they are in town.

“We also call on President Muhammadu Buhari to urge security agencies to do their work.

“Edo is not going to be a theatre of war if these issues are addressed.

“For us, we will continue to appeal to our people not to disrupt the prevailing peace in the state.

“We are law-abiding people; we have a duty to protect lives and property.”.

“Is this social distancing?” Nigerian men lament after police arrested and locked them up in a crowded cell for violating curfew time (video)

Some Nigerian men residing in Lagos state took to social media to lament after they were arrested last night, August 5 for flouting the 10pm curfew put in place by the Federal government to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

According to the men, there was heavy traffic in Lagos on Wednesday, so they couldn't beat the curfew hour.

The police officers enforcing the traffic in Ikeja arrested them and threw them in a crowded cell where none of the COVID-19 protocols such as social distancing was observed. Twitter user, Osinaike Joseph, who shared videos from the cell, alleged that the police officers refused to release some of them who were visibly sick. They accused the police of demanding bribe from them before their release.

PoliticsWike: Nobody Can Rig Edo Governorship Election by MRSAWEDOFF(op): 8:57am On Jul 29, 2020

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLWeCHN7IPE

The Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council and governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has said that the PDP will resist any attempt to rig the September 19 governorship election in the state. Wike said this in Benin during the flag off of the re-election campaign of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

“Nobody can rig this election. “No one man can decide what will happen in Edo State. “Today is the end of the so-called godfatherism.” Wike also recalled the negative statements made by a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, against the APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, saying Ize-Iyamu cannot be trusted with public fund.

“You should not dance to his [Oshiomhole] tune. “APC believes in rigging but it will be difficult for them in Edo. “Obaseki has done well, he disappointed the godfathers in Edo. “We will retain the state as PDP. “Let’s replicate what we did in Rivers State by staying back and protect your votes. “Nothing will happen to anybody. “The election will be won by Obaseki’s achievements. “God-fatherism will not rise again. “For the fact that he resisted godfatherism, that alone showed that he has the interest of Edo people at heart. “So, you have no choice but to vote for him,” he said. Tambuwal: Nigerians are with you On his part, the governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, said Nigerians are with Edo people in the struggle to liberate the state from godfathers. He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s chairman, Prof Mahmud Yakubu, to build on the legacies of immediate past chairman, Prof. Atahiru Jega. “I am appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari, even if the anti-corruption fight is becoming tougher and is failing, even if the security challenges are getting more and more, don’t fail in delivering free, fair election process to Nigeria. On his part, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State said that the debt profile left by Oshiomhole was settled by Obaseki, who “did very well.” Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State described Obaseki as a good product to sell. Handing over the party’s flag to Obaseki, the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, noted Oshiomhole had already said all that needed to be said about the APC candidate. He, therefore, urged Obaseki not to dissipate much energy on the election but concentrate on governance. In his speech, Obaseki said his main concern was how to make Edo great again. “Our message is that of hope. “We will continue to focus on how to improve governance, how to improve and transform the lives of the people,” he said

PoliticsEdo 2020: John Oyegun Explains How Buhari Endorsed Obaseki by MRSAWEDOFF(op): 8:25am On Jul 29, 2020

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCO6QrifPCQ

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has explained the situation surrounding President Muhammadu Buhari’s endorsement of the Edo and Ondo States Governors, Rotimi Akeredolu and Godwin Obaseki, respectively, for second terms.

Oyegun had earlier in the week announced that Buhari has endorsed an agreement that Obaseki and Akeredolu be returned for second term unless they do not wish to continue in office

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, fixed governorship elections in Edo State for September 19, while that of Ondo State is slated for October 10.

Oyegun’s explained how the agreement was reached.

“At the peak of the crisis surrounding the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, you’ll notice that a peaceful, so to speak, revolution was embarked upon and there were conditionalities on that and this has been in the public domain,” he said

“It has been in the public space. Nobody has denied it. And part of the conditionalities was that these Governors, no impediments should be placed on their way.

“They should be given the rights of first refusal which is normal, they’re incumbents. That does not mean there will not be other contestants.

“But it shouldn’t be like the case of Edo State where there is a deliberate move to make it impossible for him to recontest. For example, there’s an official APC in Edo State and there’s another APC loyal to the National Chairman and how do you resolve a situation like that?” He asked.

When asked on what forum Buhari made the statement endorsing the Governors for second terms, Oyegun added, “No. Nobody made a public statement. You know there were meetings and meetings and compromises and compromises that arose then.

“It wasn’t an open statement. Come on, these things don’t happen like that. You don’t expect a kind of formal announcement [from the President]. That doesn’t happen.

‘This was part of the compromises done to settle the disputes surrounding the national Chairman . It was done quietly in the board room.

“It has been in the public domain. I’m not the first to say it and it has never been denied. Don’t try to make it as if there should be a publication to that, no.

“Things don’t happen like in thirsty situations that confronted the APC decision had to be made to save everybody’s face. Those who needed to know are aware of this situation [the President’s decision].

“But note that the compromise was not that only these two incumbent governors should contest. It was that no impediment should be put in their way. Give them the rights of first refusal,” he added.

PoliticsMoment Oshiomhole Begs Edo People For Forgiveness Over Obaseki Error (VIDEO) by MRSAWEDOFF(op): 11:52am On Jul 27, 2020

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1juakU7QgQ

The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, said he regretted supporting Mr Godwin Obaseki to become the governor of Edo in 2016.

Oshiomhole said this on Sunday in Benin while addressing some members of the APC.

He said he supported the governorship aspiration of Obaseki in 2016 to ensure the continuity of his projects and programmers.

“I have made my honest mistakes. Only God is perfect. I am now 68 years. I have come to apologise for the mistake of supporting Obaseki in 2016.

“I am in Edo to repair my mistakes. God had a reason for what happened to Ize-Iyamu in 2016. Leaving as the National Chairman of APC is to give me enough time to correct my errors.

“Obaseki pretended for almost eight years, while he did not believe in what I was doing as the governor.

“In 2007, Ize-Iyamu stepped down for me. In 2012, he was the Director-General of my re-election campaign organisation and we won in all the 18 local government areas of Edo. I will work for the election of Ize-Iyamu.

The former governor urged the governorship candidate of the APC in Edo to keep to his promises.

He expressed optimism that Ize-Iyamu would emerge victorious in the September 19 governorship election in the state.

Ize-Iyamu, while earlier speaking, stated that the incumbent governor has not done well in almost four years and has lost focus.

He urged the people of the state to massively vote for him on September 19.

PoliticsWhy Obaseki Was Not Removed As Governor – Oba Of Benin by MRSAWEDOFF(op): 7:45am On Jul 26, 2020

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzL9fuoOV2A

The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, on Saturday, said his prayers sustained governor Godwin Obaseki for four years as governor of the state. He stated this in Benin when governor Obaseki led some governors, senators and other top ranking official of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) to his palace on a courtesy call.

He said: “I remembered when I visited governor Obaseki in his office, he asked me to pray for him to be able to complete his tenure in office. “And I did and today, he has not been impeached despite the ups and downs and I thank my God and my ancestors for answering my prayers.” According to him, plans were on top gear to call the Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs to pray for a peaceful election in the state.

“God and his ancestors have been answering my prayers whenever I prayed and the forthcoming governorship election will not be an exception,” he said. Oba Ewuare II said the Palace was always non partisan, but prayed for the person who has the intention of providing good leadership for the people of the state and create employment “so that the people will be able to put foods on their tables.” Earlier, the National Chairman of the party,

Chief Secondus Uche, told the Benin monarch that they were at the palace to seek his blessings and permission to go on with their campaign in the state. In his speech, governor Godwin Obaseki told the monarch that he decided to visit the palace to seek his blessings before continuing with his campaign. Thugs clash at Oba palace Meanwhile, thugs suspected to be loyalists of All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Ize-Iyamu Osagie and that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s flag bearer, clashed around the palace of the Oba of Benin on Saturday. It was learnt that there was exchange of gun fire by the loyalists of the duo, leading to destruction of vehicles while several persons sustained injuries.

It was gathered that crisis started when supporters of Obaseki were chanting pro Obaseki slogan while those loyal to the APC candidate, who were at the palace waiting for some APC chieftains allegedly invited to a function at the palace, were also chanting slogans to disparage the governor. It was further gathered that after the governor and his entourage had left the palace, the loyalists engaged in a fight, with the APC – who were more in number – having the upper hand. It was learnt that the loyalists of PDP then ran to the Ogbe Stadium, the venue of the flag off of the campaign and informed their members who stormed the ring road area to engaged the APC supporters.

Source told our reporter that several persons of both side were injured while many vehicles were destroyed. It, however, took the intervention of the police to bring the situation under control.
