Worthy mentions.
...

Avid Protools- This D.A.W works pretty much as Cubase or Sonar, only that it is Entirely Dependent on its hardware Sound Engine.
I like protools a lot, and use it from time to time whenever I'm hosted in a studio that's equipped with It.

Ableton Live

Logic Pro -limited to the Mac

Here are some of my works and demos;

NB: The List is in no particular order except For FL Studio, which means that F.L studio is the most popular in terms of use, accessibilty and O.S support.
Music/RadioRe: For Those Interested In Music Production by Mrshroud(op):
Sonar

Music/RadioRe: For Those Interested In Music Production by Mrshroud(op): 1:48pm On Jul 22, 2015
Cakewalk Sonar- I used Sonar as my stand alone Audio recording and processing utility for a long time before shifting base to cubase.

Sonar is mostly used by nigerian producers for multi -track recording and audio processing ;pretty much same way as cubase is used.

However Sonar has its own Feel and Environment.

Sonar could appear intimidating at first to a newbie, but if you're dedicated , it won't take long before you know the drill and be comfortable.

Sonar is also a very excellent rewire host to both of either FL or Reason. I speak from experience.
I normally Rewire Sonar to Reason whenever I need to feature third party pluggins like Nexus, Hypersonic or Ravity etc and it works perfectly well.
I still patronize sonar's interesting archive of vast hyper realistic drum Kits, and Guitar Riffs in my beats during rewire mode.

I've used Sonar once as a stand alone beat creation utility and it worked fine. It has an excellent network of sounds and a typical sequencing environment.

But from consultations with other producers and work experience , I can say it is used rarely as a stand alone beat creation utility.

Nuendo

Music/RadioRe: For Those Interested In Music Production by Mrshroud(op): 1:47pm On Jul 22, 2015
Steinberg Nuendo- obviously they're manufactured by same company : Steinberg .

My best Description for Nuendo is 'its an identical twin sister to cubase' Nuendo is basically same thing with cubase. Albeit some producers argue there's a little difference that matters to them. But everytime which is indeed a few times I have had to work with Nuendo I feel they are both the same.
Music/RadioRe: For Those Interested In Music Production by Mrshroud(op):
Steinberg Cubase

Music/RadioRe: For Those Interested In Music Production by Mrshroud(op): 1:43pm On Jul 22, 2015
Steinberg Cubase - Cubase is mostly used as a voice recording and processing software by most producers who either use Reason or FL studio For making
Beats.
I for instance use Reason for beats and Cubase for voice recording and Audio processing.

Cubase has one of the best audio processing utilities and features in the industry; it also has an easy looking workstation as well. Cubase features a Virtual Mixing and Mastering Table, But sometimes the conventional methods amongst hip-hop producers in Nigeria is to do our mastering in third party Mastering Stations like , I.K multimedia T.Racks , Sony Soundforge etc

Regarding Making Beats
Cubase Can also stand alone as a Beat making Programme, at least I've used it once or twice for stand alone beat making.
The point is, it is used rarely in that regard in nigeria . But -should I say- in compensation for that it is used a lot as a Rewire Host either to FL Studio or to Reason.

(Rewire or the art of Rewiring is basically Combining two Digital audio workstations(DAW's) to flow seamlessly as one, in a Host/client relationship. In Rewire Mode the Client DAW's Transport panel become synchronized with the host's, these means that the rewire client I.e Reason, or FL studio ' Controls such as Play, Stop, Mute etc work synchronously with my Rewire Host I.e Cubase.

Rewiring Cubase to Reason, means I can record with Reason Sounds on my Cubase Audio track from my midi keyboard .

Sometimes when I want to make those old school nigerian Gospel music beats characterized for simplicity and natural sounds, I often re-wire Reason to cubase as I might want to exchange features and sounds within the two softwares.
Music/RadioRe: For Those Interested In Music Production by Mrshroud(op):
Reason 5

Music/RadioRe: For Those Interested In Music Production by Mrshroud(op):
Propellerhead Reason version 5 -

My personal Favorite, all my beats are Mostly done with This Great software.

Although Reason Presents a complicated first impression to a newbie, however once the first template is cleared and a little drill is given its a simple and interesting music making software.
When you press the Tab on your keyboard to flip the Reason Virtual Instrument Rack , you see a complex string of wires that could scare the poo out of you. but like I always say. "Reason may appear scary, but when you understand it, you discover its actually very user-friendly"

Reason is basically divided into two parts , the virtual Rack (where the sounds and effects are based) , and the Sequencer(where the patterning and time planning of the music takes place.

There's No Voice processing and recording feature in Reason.

Unlike FL, Reason has a reserved audio engine which does not support use of other third party software pluggins.
You'll have to manage its vast archive of sounds and effects combination, you might spend more time on tweaking sounds and saving them too, to further consolidate your sound archive and having variations.

In the event that you grow tired of the regular sounds, you can Register and download extra sounds Called Refills at Propellerhead's online library. There are both Paid and Royalty Free Refill packages.

The Latest Version of Reason which is Reason 7 has been integrated with Recording and Voice Processing capabilities .it is Also equipped with the feature of adding third party sound Pluggins which are limited to pluggins supported by propellerhead for now, and the pluggins are integrated from factory as demos which you'll have to activate using your online account if you're interested in them.

I can almost feel someone saying "the wahala too much for an average nigerian abeg!! cheesy

Although I have a Demo Of Reason 7, I've not actually Purchased the Full Version.
And In all likelihood Reason 7 is still very much unpopular in terms of accessibility and range of use, hence my specifying of Reason 5.

FL studio

Music/RadioRe: For Those Interested In Music Production by Mrshroud(op): 1:36pm On Jul 22, 2015
Here's the list

Imageline F.L studio - Many Big producers in Nigeria use FL studio for making those addictive and fascinating beats that often culminate to hits in nigeria , FL studio is mostly used for beat making , though it has audio and voice recording capabilities ; Those capabilities are most often overlooked by producers in Nigeria. Personally and for lack of a more euphemistic word I'll say F.L Studio's Voicing Recording and Processing ambience as at the last time I checked is somewhat amateurish and least-advanced.

However FL studio more than compensates for this ; providing a comfortable and easy digital atmosphere to make your Beats/instumentals which can then be exported in wave format for subsequent audio recording .

Though FL studio presents a very easy and comprehensible front, don't get it twisted , there's actually a complex side of F.L as well.

Although if you are a fairly good pianist , you could start making good 'uncoordinated' music in FL studio within minutes , upon first introduction. 'Uncoordinated' because , a layman could nod, tap his foot to it and even call it 'standard', but a pro will identify spot that there's more to be done.

Infact Some producers I've spoken with Say their problem with FL studio is that It appears too common and simple that it makes Production look less professional because its so simple , and almost everybody uses it.

That's about how simple and accessible FL studio is.

During my early days as a producer , I used F.L studio solely, in Fact FL studio is my first Love.
So from experience I can say, you can make good music that Can compare with any in the world using FL studio as long as you know your way around even if not nearly perfectly well.

To Use FL studio you'll have to spend extra on Third party Sound Pluggins Called V.S.T and probably effect pluggins as well.

Examples of such sound pluggins are Nexus, Ravity and Hypersonic.

These pluggins integrate into F.L studio to complement and make for an extra-consolidated and comfortable archive of virtual sound resources, e.g pianos, synths, Baselines, Brass etc .

The latest FL studio edition is FL Studio 12, you can download a Demo at their official website. Just Google 'Imageline Official Website'.

For those considering the business of producing music, and for artistes who might want to save cost by learning the art of electronic music creation.

I composed this list , as a guide and to serve as basis for your take off; you might also wanna be informed about the digital tools responsible for most of nigeria's hit songs.

Top 5 most popular digital audio workstations used in Nigeria and their prospects.

This list is based on my experience as a Producer and consultation and interactions with vast number of producers in Nigeria both online and Offline.

The List is gauged by degree of accessibility , ease of use,and operating system support of this
Digital Audio Workstations(D.A.W) in Nigeria.

For ease of understanding a Digital audio Workstation (DAW) is a Software used in making and production of music.
CareerRe: He Wants To Quit His Job As A Chemical Scientist For Music.Pls Advice Him! by Mrshroud: 7:56pm On Jul 20, 2015
Adultnextdoor:
Happy sunday.....

it's true that i get paid very big for working as a chemical scientist and i've always been an expert in science-related courses but music has always been the dream for me right from childhood, i've always wanted to be an Highlife singer......

At this point in my life as a youngman, i have so much money due to the fact that i worked for a prestigeous petro-chemical company in italy for two years before moving down to Nigeria.

I currently work for a petroleum company as the Asst. Supervisor of the production department and Supervisor of the quality control section, this September will make it my second year of serving this company........

Now with this little achievement, i still get the strong urge to follow my music career.....to be sincere, it is the main reason i relocated back to Nigeria,This September, i will be resigning and i want to know if i'm making the right decision.....

pls you can share if you've got any advice....bless!!
If you want to be assured of your financial security as you leave your Job for music , you'll have to do the following.

While still at your Job,

Record a hit song that will guarantee a once in a lifetime shoot to fame and musical relevance in the country.

From my observation, you have the money.

Now if you do a song that's not a top chart material, and you push it with all your resources and money, you will still fail.

For you to be launched into prominence, you do not need good songs, you need a great song , that will best the most played highlife song in the Country.
You said your genre is Highlife, you'll need a song that'll give Flavour , or any other highlife celebrity a run for his money.

You need a team of great minds, musically shrewd minds who can spot a hit song when they see one, and not studio sycohpants and praise singers who will praise every effort you make at the studio even the dumbest.

You need someone who can identify and help you understand what sells in Nigeria.
In asmuch as you want to acheive your dreams with your kind of music you want to be guaranteed of your financial security.

So at first you'll need a song that will make you the hottest artist in Nigeria at first, not necessarily the most original, but even both can be achieved depending on you. You need a song that will make you the artiste that has to be on every show, that earns the six figure pay per show.

And that, you can not achieve without due consultation of Musically objective minds.

A song Like 'woju' For instance , prior to woju, kiss daniel had only one song on the internet titled 'shoye', he worked with a not too competent producer and that song wasn't impressive.

He needed a song with the instrumental dexterity and commercially catchy nature of 'woju' and the right promotion and push to break the nigerian market.

He didn't need just a great producer, he needed a great producer to work with him like his life depended on it, he needed this producer to employ all his best to achieve the hit that woju has now become.

I've heard DJ coublon produce not too great other beats apart from 'woju' and 'laye' which is my case study.

Yes you have the money, you can hire the services of sarz, or legendary beats, or don Jazzy. But will they work for you like their everything depends on it ? Or will they produce something typical that will shine your name on blogs and magaZine while your deployed publicity budget lasts?

Those big producers are business men, and will offer you all the time that you can afford to pay for. But what you need

You need a team bro. You need a producer that will feel you. A producer that's not business driven a producer that's prolific yet thirsty and ambitious for fame and prominence.

And that is where the challenge lies.

If you can find that one producer , that can bring out the best, that can put on the table something new and different yet successful, something that even while been cooked up has began smelling successful already. then I can guarantee your musical and financial prosperity in the industry. And once your name becomes a household name due to that one song, then be rest assured that even if you sing thrash afterwards as long as its on a good beat , you'll still smile to the bank. That's the Nigerian Music market for you. Bro

Your status as an employed is even advantageous as you'll need all the resources you can muster to push your songs to the required heights before the song in return starts doing the financial talking for you.

7Alexander:
I work in a not-too-big establishment that is owned by my brother-in-law, we have a staff of 7 ladies, 4 guys including myself.

The problem i have is that these ladies whose job is largely secretarial thinks that given my connection with the CEO, that i am financially privileged, now, i'm just managing myself, albeit comfortably, but, there is no time i can have a single conversation with these ladies without me hearing something like, 'find something for me nah', 'hope you will find me weekend money', 'you be oga nah, your own better' and stuffs like that.

Recently, one of them celebrated her birthday at the office but brought no drinks, during the celebration, she blatantly asked me to bring #5000 to support her, i was like what? The whole thing is pissing me off.

I remember a day i told one of them to buy me sachet water, she asked me how an oga like me should be drinking sachet water and not a bottled water.

The new and most annoying trend now is that anytime i send them to get me food, which is sold between 250 and 350, they either do not get me any change or they tell me that the food vendor is owing them, and we know the rest.

Please nairalanders how best do i express my displeasure to them without being petty, while also sustaining their goodwill?
Bro I understand how you feel, you'll have to take a really stern decision which might in all likelihood lead to a misunderstanding of your person.

Christianity EtcA Church In Lagos Where Every Member Is Head Of Witches And Wizards. by Mrshroud(op): 10:31am On Jul 19, 2015
Somewhere in ketu, Lagos...

The general overseer suddenly turned sober few minutes into the beginning of the sunday sermon and said he had a confession to make.
The arena suddenly became tense as every interest awoke fully and Every ear was geared up in anticipation of what the pastor was talking about.

"All this while, you people know me as your general overseer, but there is more about me that is so so deep and dangerous that you people don't know"

He looked intently into the crowd , bobbed his head and muttered some incomprehensible inaudible(s): speaking in tongues.

An uncomfortable suspense choked the atmosphere and you could almost feel someone was going to yell "pastor say something already!"

He continued.
" It is a big secret I have kept all these years and now I intend to share it with you all. even my family do not know about this."

He paused again.

He successfully gave off the impression of a master in applying the suspense effect and the silent anxiety that Reverberated in the auditorium seemingly attested to that.

"I am the head of witches and Wizards in this part of the world and my original mission is to initiate you all." Pastor Announced calm naturedly.

The conveyed announcement dropped somewhat too lightly to have been the climax to all that preliminary suspense yet the mere inclusion of the 'witches and wizards' factor in The confession was too ominous to be taken for granted. And just when members of the congregation were considering whether to be alarmed or to be unruffled, the voice of the
Pastor came again assuming a frightful tune this time.

"Those of you who would like to be initiated and become heads of witches and wizards like me stand up?".

Some hushed whispers heard around the corners of the church seemed to uphold the parallel reign of uncertainty and confusion.

A few members , the pastor's wife and some deacons and senior pastors in the front podium stood up. The majority weren't so sure.

Then suddenly the pastor laughed cheerily and asked those standing to seat.

He thus continued, by quoting from the bible, Colossians 2:10 which attested to the fact that Jesus Christ was head of all principality and powers and that naturally our position as children and followers of christ automatically makes us heads of principality as well, and since witches and wizards were even the lowest in the radar of principality;calling himself "head of witches And wizards" was only stating an ordinary fact.

"So who wants to be like me now?" He asked again, and majority stood up this time, however Some bottoms remained glued to their white plastic chairs; dem never Sure say dem wan get any thing to do with witches and wizards yet.

Naija and drama sha!
cheesy happy sunday guys!

Who says a struggling man can't offer comfort. Infact a struggling man who is noble should even be better at offering comfort. And by that I do not mean financial comfort. I mean emotional and moral comfort, and if a struggling man can't make his girl experience and appreciate those, it doesn't make him any more than a degenerate.
