Hello Nairalander's I believe we all owe democracy a chance to grow and by doing so we need a platform for mental revolution. Our ways of doing things have over the years proved to be unconventional and insufficient to get the type of leaders we need. Here is what I think we can do for a better Nigeria. Recruit new politicians This can be done by mobilizing youths to join political parties of their choice Demonetize the election Elections are too expensive to run and this alone is a financial drain to suitable candidates whose resources can't go round the 774 LG Sensitization INEC and National Orientation Agency owes Nigerians a great apology for not properly educating the citizens on this civic right Mass voters registration It is no longer news that INEC is sleeping on this responsibility. With their offices in all local governments in Nigeria, I believe it will make more sense to have a open door for voters registration, voters relocation and card collection even if these would be done once a week or once a month Intellectual Campaign Guideline A very important ingredient to grow our democracy is to have a campaign guideline which spells out reality and reduce vote buying. There are somany people that live on money shared during campaign. INEC should enforce a media strategy that help promote all candidates for equal visibility across the country, state or local government as related to the office being contested, mobilize citizens to rally, buy airtime for adverts and let journalist do the rest. Political parties should be allowed to run social media campaign on the candidates owned page and political parties page. This will create a level play ground for all and reduce stress on our security agents who are deployed to different rallies for same place. There are many more points to add, but will appreciate a major deliberation around this topic |
Nice development, Asylum is for coward. Let UK that joined the north, east and west together judge the looming matter. |
The recent UK decision to grant political Asylum to IPOB is a show of disregard for the Nigerian government. This new direction taken by the UK government has shown how low the international community perceive the decision of those at the helm of affairs in the country towards the Biafran agitators and other sects. Let's bẹ sincere with ourselves is anything actually working in the country to deserve a for better for worse situation in the country. For me, our union is long overdue and we need to set a new course by navigating either the way of national dialogue or break away. The government is too far from the people and that alone justifies any move for break up. As a matter of fact, no member of the UN security council is a true ally of the largest black nation in the world, but choose not to interfere because of the economic gain attached to the political carelessness of our leaders. Let's discuss this further. |

These prophecies are just pure political calculation any sensible person following the trend of event in the nation can forecast. The use of "may" shows that the prophecy is just a mere political calculation. |

‘Backwardness, Cause of Insecurity In North’ BY DAVID ADUGE-ANI, Abuja The Sarkin Yarbawan Funtua in Katsina State, Alhaji Murtala Sani Adeleke, has attributed the current insecurity in the North to backwardness, both in education and infrastructure development. Adeleke, who spoke to LEADERSHIP in Abuja, after receiving two awards, Doctor of Science in Business Management, from the European-American University, and Ambassador for Peace award, from the Universal Peace Federation, added that the North is so backward, especially in taking care of their children. The royal father also noted that the current insecurity in the region started showing the signs very long time ago, because of the increasing number of children, who were not taken care of by their parents. “Insecurity in the north is something that did not start one day. It is something that has been showing us the signs for a long time. We know that the north is so backward in education, especially looking after our children. So, this thing has been in the lips of everybody and nobody took it seriously. Now, those children have grown up and have nothing to do. So, this is what led them to this kind of a thing.” Adeleke, who is also the Oba Yoruba of Funtua, advised Nigerians to always pray for their leaders to have the wisdom to end this challenge, instead of blaming one government or the other. He continued: “For me, the solution to this insecurity is that we should all join hands to end it, because the government is already overwhelmed. We should not leave it to the police, the army or other security agencies. We should give information to the security to help arrest the situation.” Source: Leadership ePaper 23rd Dec 2020-26 |
SadiqBabaSani:Exactly, this looks more like a reason for coming for him and not cos of ENDSARS protest. Let's be guided |
You are very correct, I appreciate your post. jidamsel43: |
After the gruesome attack on armless protesters at the Lekki toll gate, what next my country? Will the youth go back to bed? Now that we have soro sókè í believe we Have been heard and appropriate actions would be taken by those elected to run the affairs of the nation, hopefully they will start doing what is needed of a good leader. But in the real sense, much isn't expected from our political office holders, majority of the citizens know this. After all, how do you give what you don't have? A look into our past as a nation, shows that our electoral system is our major problem and for any meaningful change to occur we need a change in the way our representatives are nominated and elected. Gone are those days when emotions are being employed to vote people into office at least our weeping presidential aspirant rode on our emotions with no meaningful result after years in office. The youths are the last hope of the nation at this critical moment in our history, where everything seems to have fallen apart. Nothing is working in Nigeria, not even good followership. But with a careful execution of a strategic youth engagement plan, Something major can be achieved come 2023 and even before then, policy makers can adopt recommendations to fix the nation. The plan is to leverage on the knowledge of Nigerians on how to fix the nation, it will be in form of national dialogue with a bid of openly identifying our problems as a nation. Key issues will be raised and moderators with great competence will be employed to facilitate the entire process. Topics will cut across major sectors of the economy and how those sectors can create jobs, contribute meaningful income to our economy and how they can affect other sectors not mentioned to grow the overall economy. Theories have not been really useful to our economy in the past, now is the time to adopt reasoning. As time goes on, major contributors to this forum will be openly invited for national debate with the theme "If elected the president" this forum will create a mock presidential debate we have never had in the nation and as time goes on, we will get to discover new national thinkers with fresh ideas that can be nominated as independent candidates sponsored to run for political office. |
After SWAT what next? This is a generation of Nigerians that have been deprived of everything good including good leadership and from all indications our electoral system does not support a better form of leadership. In order to get more out of democracy here are some of my suggestions Let the youth organise their house and support a youth centered political movement The movement should be intellectually driven to brainstorm on a road map to a better nation Interested participants should contribute knowledge based on weekly topics posted on an agreed platform by selected moderator As time goes by, 100 active participants will be nominated for the national debate and there will be gradual eviction based on vote generated The 10 finalist will be sponsored to contest political office in the country including the sit of the president and vice president We can make significant use of this opportunity to map out a better future for the country. Thank you, God bless Nigeria. |
fourboys:Let the youth demand change to put an end to police brutality |
Greatest Nigerian Youths!!! This is the clarion call, let all the youths obey We can't remain quiet while some miscreants try to oppress us Lending a voice is part of democracy We are Nigerians not animals We deserve a better life in our country Enough of police brutality Enough of police lawlessness We need a police that works A working police is the first step to a functional society A working police creates a balance in the society where no animal is more equal than the others A working police means fairness A working police does not require the use of force and when force is to be applied, it should be done in a lawful manner A working police requires intelligence Either SARS or SWAT we say no to police brutality We say no to institutional oppression No one is above the law Nigerians created this government Being a Nigerian is our right Being in government is by our vote Our voice matters in governance We can't be treated like second class citizens Let all who have ears hear Nigerian youths are law abiding Let no one plant a seed of evil in us Nigerian youths have rights Let no one deny us of our right Nigerian youths have a say in governance Let no one silence us Nigerian youths are not lazy We became something out of nothing Nigerians are good people Let no one paint us evil Without youths Nigeria is dead Without us our population is useless Without us our GDP growth will be zero We have the energy to grow our nation Hear our voice, do what is right. Remember your fatherland.... Youths obey the clarion call Let us lift our nation high Under the sun or in the rain With dedication and selflessness Nigeria is ours, Nigeria we serve. |
Bad leadership is part of us Leaders weren't imported but chosen amongst us The Saint today is that man deprived of power Give him just a chance and you see who he is The same human right activist became a leader with nothing to show for it This mother fucker is bad doesn't mean anyone has ever been good Behind every policy is a selfish interest fulfilled Religion was imported but now its we that export it Say it as it is and my brother na visa to go jail A few good ones and alot of bad ones The president is bad but the ministers are worse The senator may be good but na impeachment go be him legacy In Nigeria of today, money solve all problems Constitution is for the masses while the leaders improvise How did we get here, but have we ever been better Some generation have never been educated While some generation past na only them dey rule us The poor will die broke while the rich gets paid in death Politics in Nigeria is a game of influence Let's rethink our democracy before the craze turn our inheritance Some people inherited oil well, While we all inherit national debt Nigeria has been sold so we are living on loan I wish one day the owners don't sack us If you want the full lyrics don't be shy to call You can drop you lines to give this post a boost. |
In Yoruba land, yes. But outside the Yoruba land, leaders are given title based on their hosts culture for ease of reference. JaffyJoe: |

Here are some pictures of the Sarkin Yorubawa and his family.
|
Meet the Sarkin Yorubawa Funtua Alhaji Murtala Sani Adeleke Can you tell us about you? I Alhaji Murtala Sani Adeleke was born in Funtua, Katsina State, to the family of the then Sarkin Yorubawa Funtua Alhaji Sani Adeleke and his wife Hajia Fatima Aisha Adeleke. My dad was a very religious man, who raised all his Children the Islamic way; he made Islamic education compulsory for all his children so that we can have proper knowledge of the religion before being enrolled into the conventional primary school. I grew up with my brother and sisters, some of who are late (I pray they find peace in the grave), our house use to be a very big one, which served as second home to the Yorubas and other tribes around. After my university education, I moved to Lagos, where I started business as a contractor with the Federal Government of Nigeria, I deal in haulage, travel and tour and a bureau de change located at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. Allihamdulilah I am married and blessed with male and female children. What was life like growing up in the 60s? Life growing up in the 60s was a very interesting and adventurous one in Funtua. The environment was peaceful, everyone was his or her brothers keeper, there were lots of bonding activities amongst peer group which made us develop a strong bond. Tell us about the Adeleke royal linage in Funtua. Funtua started having a Yoruba head in the 40s and after his demise, my dad was appointed by the Sarkin Maska of Funtua as first Sarkin Yorubawa of Funtua. He held this position until his demise and another Sarki Alhaji Abdulazeez was appointed. He also held this position until his demise in 2017. I was appointed the new Sarkin Yorubawa Funtua in March 2019, based on the recommendation of the Yoruba people in Funtua, through the Sarkin Maska, who in turn sent the request to the Emir of Katsina for the Emirates approval. This makes me the 3rd Sarkin Yorubawa of Funtua How are the Yoruba Traditional chiefs elected? The chiefs are appointed on the prerogative of the Sarki. When a new Sarki is appointed existing chiefs are maintained since they are also part of the Yoruba community in Funtua and when a seat is vacant, a replacement is appointed by the Sarki. What is the socio-economic life in Funtua like? The socio-economic life in Funtua is conducive for all irrespective of religious believes or tribe. Our hosts are very accommodating; they gave us the privilege to associate freely without any form of discrimination, which has led to series of inter ethnic marriages and growth of private businesses by non natives. The major occupation here is trading and farming. The soil is fertile for all forms of agriculture and farming can be done on a large scale, due to the availability of abundant land. Farming is mainly dominated by the Hausa, while the Yoruba are mostly traders and artisans. Aside bringing in commodities from other states to sell in Funtua, we also buy agricultural produce from Funtua to sell within and outside Funtua, which has greatly contributed to the economy of Funtua. We the Yoruba in Funtua are not different from the Yoruba in the west, we are fun lovers. We come together to celebrate our achievements and other occasions, we are well known for our social life which contributes to the fun in Funtua. We support each other morally, financially and collectively maintain a high level of discipline, which has further contributed to the peace in the community. What is your administrations plan for youth empowerment? Youth empowerment is top on my administration agenda, this informed our decision to divide Funtua into 5 districts and the appointment of Baale to govern each district, they include Jabiri/Bokolo district, Tudun wada district, Wazmai/Tafoki district, Makera/ BCGA district, Dutsen Reme/Sabon district. One of their responsibilities is to sensitize people in their districts on the plans of this administration in regards to their welfare. Recently we gave out forms for interested candidates to apply for apprenticeship, with a committee in place to screen applicants and select 10 qualified applicants from each district, to be sponsored by this administration in order to avoid social vices and improve self reliance. We know the present situation of the country in terms of unemployment and poverty, so we are leveraging on the artisans we have amongst us, to properly train these youths in their trade of interest, and as time goes by, we can expand this program to accommodate more youths. For the unemployed graduates, we encourage them to acquire some employable skills as alternative means of employment or search for opportunities outside the state for them to be able to cater for their parents and siblings, still living in Funtua. Recently, we applied to the state government for 150 hectares of land for agriculture to further engage our youths and improve the economy in Funtua. With time, I believe things will get better and I hope more individuals will stand up to support this empowerment cause. With the proposed university of Agriculture to be established in Funtua, I believe the social and economic life in Funtua will get a boost. We are also open to more innovative ideas to drive the socio-economic growth of Funtua and Katsina State at large. What has been your administrations contribution to Funtua's socio-economic development? Plans are on the way to establish a nail making factory to boost the socio-economic life in Funtua. Recently, we established an endowment fund to support traders and youths to access loan to boost their business or start a trade without any form of collateral. What is required is recommendations from the chiefs to ensure the loans are returned accordingly. The money given as loan is generated from contributions made by myself and some chiefs, we also solicit support from other individuals within and outside Funtua. We also wrote to the local government chairman in Funtua to give us the share of the Yoruba community from the recently promised Federal Government COVID 19 palliative, which will also be used for the benefit of all. We also pay special attention to the health of our people and have visited the General hospital to make donation of wheel chairs. Recently we gave out hand sanitizers to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and also made donations to the displaced in Faskari. We also facilitated the installation of solar Street lights in Funtua and got the support of CBN agricultural department to give loans to farmers in Funtua aside the ones meant for the state. There are plans in progress by other stake holders which I am involved in as part of the committee, alongside the Emir and other professionals to develop plans on how improve the economy and general development of Funtua. Hopefully, things will start to turn around for good. What are the major challenges of this administration and how you intend to overcome them? Our major challenge so far has been the increasing rate of unemployment and we have begun plans on how to diversify the economy in Funtua with the support of all major stakeholders. Is there any form of subvention / support from government or NGO to compliment your administration's effort? So far, there has not been any form of support from government or NGO, although we are still looking forward to the Federal government palliative and the approval of our agricultural land request from the State government. We will appreciate intervention of NGO's to empower youths to further reduce the level of unemployment. The Governor has been a good listener and we look forward to all he has promised us including the 150 hectares of land for agriculture. Very soon we will be meeting with Mr. President to discuss the approval of the University of Agriculture which we all know will contribute a lot to the socio-economic life of Funtua. Is there any message you want to convey to the people? Yes, I will like to call on Yoruba with origin in Funtua to look back and support the development of Funtua. We can't do it alone, this is the time to give back to the community, and we will appreciate any form of assistance. Credit: Interview conducted on September 30, 2020. By Shittu Isiaka Opeyemi |

Look, I respect you for choosing to quit rather than embarrass the force like most selfish people do, NPF doesn't deserve responsibile people like you because they don't appreciate you.. My advice: As a graduate you have alot of skills you can tap from, although having a family to feed might be challenging but It is better late than never. Learn basic skills like graphics, printing, photography, farming or trading. These skills might sound funny but if you are focused and passionate about what you do, you won't regret it. God bless you. |
