I completely agree. I installed Vista a couple of weeks ago. Its nice on the look, but half my applications do not work, its extremely resource intensive. And the irony is that, once you upgrade to Vista from XP, you cannot roll-back to XP. You have to do a fresh install, which is what i had to do. So, be absolutely sure before you proceed. buy my $0.02, its not worth it. |
These days you also have to think about your domain name when considering naming a company, www. ? No point giving your company a name whose domain is not available. So, whatever name you decide, go to www.register.com to see if the domain is still available. And if it is, register it quick ! |
when she whipped out her w2 during tax filing. this owu ite filipino woman had worked $500,000 for that tax year. And how much exactly did she take home after taxes ? Or she didn't pay tax on that income ? In any case, the matter at hand is not whether this Nigerian lady made $92K, could have made $92K or whether she worked overtime or not. The issue is why did she fail to declare the money she was BRINGING INTO the US ? Oh yes, i remember, it was an oversight ! That is why when she was asked how much she had on her, she responded $20,000. She forgot about the other $100K. People, this woman knew exactly what she was doing. While we may have sympathy for her, we also have to condemn her action. We have to remember that our actions reflect on us as a people. her actions have contributed to the image of Nigerians as dishonest people, and that bothers me ! |
@Yomflo Get your facts right before you post incorrect info ! Cartoon Network did not make 60 Billion pounds in 2005 !!!!! For your information, Cartoon Network is a subsidiary of Turner Broadcasting System, which is an arm of Time Warner, the owners of CNN. In 2005, Time Warner had a total revenue of $43.6 Billion, (21.8 Billion Pounds), so how could Cartoon Network alone have a revenue of 60 Billion Pounds ($120 Billion), like you say ? Also, you say that more people watch cartoon network than CNN ? That is wrong !! CNN has approximately 2 Billion audience impressions worldwide every day, while Cartoon Network has 90 million. Having said that, i do enjoy watching SOME cartoons. |
For all the talk about guilt by association, and immigrant status and all that , let us not loose sight of the most important point in this case , This woman lied about the funds she was carrying. Saying NO on the form that she had no funds in excess of 10K, she put herself in a very bad situation. We are talking about this only because this time, someone was caught. You can imagine how many people have passed through without being stopped. @Spoilt I myself travel out of the US very often, at least twice or three times a month , and till date, i have never been stopped by any immigration officer for "special" treatment. And yes, i carry a Nigerian passport. |
@Spoilt On two different posts, you mentioned race, see below i just think that failing to declare it doesnt mean they can take her life savings. if it was a white woman who didnt declare it, they would never confisticate the money. its because she's an imigrant. they are always biased! And again you said i know she broke the law by not declaring but lets be real. if this was a white american we wouldnt be having this discussion because that money would not have been confisticated.Or did i misunderstand ? You weren't talking about race above ? And you say with such confidence that if this were an american citizen the punishment would have been different , on what do you base this ? And yes, we don't have to agree. Especially when your argument is not based on facts, but emotion ! |
It is interesting to read the responses on this issue, especially those hinting on the fact that race had something to do with it. People, lets not beat each other up on this. Whether black or white, whether immigrant or citizen, the simple fact is that this woman broke the law, and breaking the law has consequences. Its that simple. And mind you, she broke the law in two countries. She broke the law in Nigeria - where you are supposed to declare funds in excess of US 5K and she broke the law upon arriving in the US. Funny that we are not even discussing that Nigeria's laws were broken as well. We Nigerians are too comfortable with illegality. Even when we see that something illegal has taken place, we begin too rationalise, "sebi its her money" , "nurses make a lot of money" "$92,000 is no biggie" bla bla bla . We have to begin to have respect for the law. There is a reason those laws are in place. There is a reason that governments want to know when you are bringing or taking out huge sums of money. It if is not controlled, it has effects on the economy. I feel sorry for this woman, but there is no doubt in my mind she knew what she was doing. Everyone who lives in the US knows the whole deal about taking out more than $10K. When you are about to leave the country, you are sometimes asked. When you are coming into the country, it is written clearly on the form. And this wome has lived in the US for how long ? Another thing you have to consider is the direction in which the funds were coming. She was not taking the money OUT of the US, she was bringing it in. For all those who are talking about nurses making a lot of money, that might be true, but how do you explain the direction the money was going ? So what did she do ? Get paid her salary, invested it in Nigeria and then bringing it back in ? Hmm , And those who say she put in a lot of overtime etc etc , in that case, would it not be very easy for her to prove the source of the funds ? If she used all of her salary to build a house in Nigeria, and then sold the house and decided to repatriate the funds, would that not be very easy to prove ? Would she not have gone to trial to prove that ? If the funds were really her hard earned sweat, would she not FIGHT for it ? @Spoilt , It is really interesting that you put the racial spin on this. If this happened to you, would you think it was because you are black ? Or because you did something wrong ? You also state that she wasnt carrying contraband or an illegal substance. she was carrying what i believe was hard earned cash.Do you have any proof of this statement ? or this is just your opinion ? nigerian nurses especially put in overtime and live in the hospitals to make good cash. whether she was taking it out of the country or into it doesnt matter. But you see, it does matter. That is why every country in the world wants to know when you are bringing in or taking out huge funds. If it didn't matter, they wouldn't want to know. I don't have the time to go into the ecomonics of it for you, but rest assured that it matters. And another thing, i don't care what you do, $92,000 IS A LOT OF MONEY !!!! |
Take sentiments out for this and see it for what it really is, she broke the law. When you fill out the customs forms on getting to the US, it states clearly there that if you have cash or monetary instruments over $10,000, it has to be declared. People tend not to understand this. There is no law against carrying funds into or out of the US, only law is that anything over $10,000 has to be declared. When this lady filled out her form, she marked "NO" on the part of the form asking if you're carrying more than $10000 US. Right there and then, she broke the law. Its just like the part of the form that asks if you have any food, people always tick NO. But if you're searched and the food is found, it is immediately impounded and you could be fined - HEAVILY. |

I cannot believe there is discussion on whether Paddy Adenuga is rude and pompous .Notice how everyone starts there sentence with "i heard" , Please people , let us spend our time on more constructive issues . |
How do we know the guy is not himself shagging some other girl(s) , while he is "keeping" his jewel for the wedding night ? Tell your friend not to worry . If she has been able to keep the aristo for 7 months without her boyfriend finding out , she is obviously doing something right . So she should go on soun , On the wedding night , there are ways she can fiegn being disvrigined , sebi she is a woman ? And after that night , everything is kosher !! |

@msy: what made you think it was love?I dont know . Wasn't it ? I think i loved her at some point , not sure which point though . |
Rule #1 Whenever you do something like this , be very careful . Make sure nobody EVER finds out . Rule #2 Someone will always find out . |
hmm ... it'll be one hell of a miracle . its very simple , i am not happy . and i'm getting old . |
Did i mention that as a condition for going out with me in the first place , she stipulated that there would be no intimacy . And she stuck to her guns . For the 6 yearsm we dated , there was no sex . Thinking about it now , i think thats one of the things i liked about her . As for helping me fix this , well , i welcome all the help . But i have to be honest and say that i have given up on this marriage . Too many things have happened ... too many things have been said . And i honestly believe my happiness lies elsewhere . |
I have come to realise that happiness is very very important in a marriage . Life is too short to go through it being unhappy . If there is no love , seek love elsewhere . you wouldn't stay in an abusive and violent relationship because of the kids , would you ? |
Hmm .. there are some real romeo and juliet stories on this thread . When i was growing up , i always knew what kind of married life i wanted . Loving wife , 2 wonderful children (any combination was fine with me ) and a good home . That was what i wanted . But somehow , it didn't turn out that way . I dont have a loving wife , i dont have any children yet , neither do i have a "home" in the real sense of the word . I shall answer the questions as they are listed in the post . 1. I met my wife in college . We were studying the same course , but she was a few years behind me . Very smart woman ... she graduated 3 years after i did with a First Class degree - the first in so many years . I graduated with a 2-2 2. To this day , i cant say what attracted me to her . 3. I proposed to her after having a relationship for 6 years . 4. No one really opposed . Only thing is my dad warned me ... He was very concerned and asked me if i was sure this was the woman i wanted to marry . I wish now that i had thought really well about the question . But in the moment , i didn't think . I just said yes !! At the time , i thought i was in love . 5. The wedding was nice - lots of people attended . But i was miserable throughout the ceremony . I was so unhappy as to what i was getting myself into . 6. Do i think i made a mistake ? Hmm ... i KNOW i made i mistake !!! 7. How often am i tempted to be unfaithful ? Tempted many many times ... and fallen for temptation many many times . 8. Its not going to last for much longer . Its already lasted too long as it is - 6 years . |
So , any update on the girl ? |
Most beautiful thing on earth ?? very very easy - its my mum !! |
