This is indeed terrible news. He was a gifted actor.
He brought Tony Soprano into our lives like no else could have.
The Sopranos regarded as the greatest TV show ever.

Thanks Tony!

NYSC / Re: Petition To Withdraw Youth Corpers From Violent Northern Nigerian States. by MSY: 11:36am On Apr 23, 2011
If this violence usually occurs before, during and after election, since the Govt can foresee the riot, why not try to post some sort of temporary security in the North during those periods?

@Ileke-Idi

Let me try again to explain this to you.

Posting temporary security to these locations will not save the lives of these Youth Corpers. Also, posting temporary security amounts to gambling with their lives, hoping that the temporary "security" will work, when the next outbreak happens. Not if, when. I am sure that if you had corper relatives up there now, your take on this will be different.

The reason it amounts to gambling is because, by the very nature of the NYSC program, corpers serving in these locations are almost always from other regions of Nigeria. This means that when there is a riot, they are the first targets, and in this case, easily identifiable
. Many of this corpers are in remote locations, villages and hamlets. Nigeria does not have the desire, or resources to provide security for every corper in these remote locations.

Please take a step back and look at this issue dispassionately. Remember that we are talking about a measure aimed at preserving human life. Nothing should be more important than this. No program. Not even the NYSC.

Finally, i ask that you go back and read that petition again. You will see that it has short term and long term demands. It does not ask for the program to be scrapped, even though i personally think that it should be.
NYSC / Re: Petition To Withdraw Youth Corpers From Violent Northern Nigerian States. by MSY: 4:45am On Apr 23, 2011
@Kobojunkie & Ileke-Idi

The petition seeks the withdrawal of Youth Corpers from violence prone areas of the North, primarily to protect the lives of those Corpers. Its really that simple. We can be politically correct and ask the "government to provide security", but this will not save their lives when the next riot breaks out. When the next riot happens, these Corpers will be the target, they will be sitting ducks. There are parents who are grieving right now. Having spent all these years training their children, only to have them snuffed out in murderous rage. This is unacceptable.

On the point being reiterated by Kobojunkie about what will happen to other programs in the North, there is no other program that forces participants to exist in a particular location, except the NYSC. The NYSC is manditory. It also tells you where you must serve. You are not given any options. I cannot think of any other program that has such stipulations. Civil servants posted to the North are free to resign and seek alternate employment, as many have done in the past. You cannot do that with the NYSC, simply because an NYSC certificate is a requirement for employment in most establishments.

@Litmus.

I don't understand your anger or mistrust of Indians here.

Nigerian athlete fails drug test. Says, "oh, must have been the panadol i took."

Another Nigerian athlete fails drug test. Says, "don't bother running a second test".

And you are here saying you don't trust Indians, and benefit of doubt.

Not one of them said "Its a lie. I demand another test!"

That speaks volumes!

Sports / Re: Spain Vs Germany: [1 - 0] @ World Cup 2010 Semis by MSY: 10:28pm On Jul 07, 2010
Akwasi (m)

The Football World cup is already determined by the numbers,

1. Brazil won the World Cup in 1994;   before that they won in 1970.  Adding 1970 + 1994= 3964.

2.Argentina won its last World Cup in 1986; before that they won in 1978. Adding 1978 + 1986= 3964

3. Germany won its last World Cup in 1990; before that they won in 1974. Adding 1974 + 1990= 3964

4. Brazil also won the World Cup in 2002; before that they won in 1962. Adding 1962+ 2002= 3964.

Therefore which nation is going to win the World Cup in 2010?

You have to subtract 2010 [this year] from the magic number that we have determined: 3964.

3964 minus 2010 = 1954,    In 1954 the World Cup was won by , Germany!!!

Let us wait and see if the consistency continues.

It will happen

So much for your logic,

Travel / Re: Her Uk Travel Woes; Any Recourse? by MSY: 8:19pm On Jun 11, 2010
Unfortunately, she has no recourse under the law. Every country has a right to deny you entry, on whatever grounds, into their country. Remember, having a visa does not guarantee entry. It is always up to the border control agent, totally his/her discretion. Now, could they have let her in, of course. Would they have let her in if she weren't Nigerian, probably.

The only thing she can do now is make this story public, and create some embarrassment for the UK border agency. Hopefully, she will get an apology and some compensation - if she creates enough of a headache for them. But outside that, they were well within their rights to deny her entry. She had no valid visa, she had shown prior intent to visit by applying for a visa, etc.

Stories like this abound everyday. I will give an example.

I traveled to the US in 1991 on Alitalia. I was in the US for 7 weeks. On the return journey, the plane that was coming from Rome to pick us up developed engine trouble and had to land in Canada. The airline decided to keep the plane in Canada and attempt to fix it there. They also decided to fly us to Canada to meet the plane there. Upon arriving in Canada, several passengers did not have Canadian visas, transit or otherwise. I was one of them. The Canadian authorities understood what happened and issued 24hr visas to those who didn't hold visas. We ended up spending the night in a hotel. The following day, we boarded our fixed plane to Rome. Of course by the time we arrived Rome friday evening, the flight to Lagos had left in the morning. The next flight to Lagos was in 2 days, on Sunday. The airline offered to take us to a hotel, but of some of us didn't have entry visas. The Italians were adamant, no visa, no entry. We proceeded to spend the next to days at the Leonardo Da Vinci airport. Needless to say, that was the last time i flew Alitalia!

Ziga @Post 99 above

Mr Ziga, learn to pick a position and stick with it. Your comments above are all over the place. First you say the people who make comments on this page are most likely not Nigerians, or have never set foot in Nigeria. Then you say all you want is fairness, then you say i have no shame, and then you finally admit that yes, Nigeria is rotten and we should fix it!

First of all, it does not matter if the people who comment on this page are Nigerians or not, as long as they speak the truth. And believe it or not, you can actually benefit from comments made by non-Nigerians. You have a false sense of patriotism that will not get you anywhere. You need to learn to call it the way it is. Do not for one second think your defense of Nigeria here means you love Nigeria more than i do. Easily verifiable truths have been said about Nigeria, and you are here huffing and puffing about crime existing in other countries and that the UAE wants something from you. Your primary concern should be "how do we correct this perception of Nigeria", not "you should not say that because there is crime in other countries too".

If someone calls you a thief, your motivation should be, how do i stop stealing, not, "don't call me a thief, because there are other thieves out there".

Do you get it now?
Travel / Re: Emirates Airline Paints Nigeria Bad On Their Website by MSY: 7:47pm On Jun 16, 2009
What they said is true but was rather overemphasized!!! Haba, na only for Naija e dey happen?

Everybody protects his image. That is why we wear clothes. People who know they have skin diseases, might try to treat it but while they are being cured, they will also try to mask it by covering up.That is natural.

We all know we have problems, and most of the things they said is the truth. But every country in the world has some problem or the other. Nobody yansh clean. But they (UAE) will never write their bad parts on their website.

And i am very sure there is no way they can (UAE) say any bad thing about other big countries despite the fact that bad things happen there also.  If they do they will run into business problems because those other countries won't take that sitting down.

If they know that the Nigerian people won't take their write up and they care about the amount of business they could be losing, they wouldn't dare write such.

Bottom line, no matter how good nigeria will become, there will always be one problem or the other facing us at a point in time. That does not give any serious potential investor the right to say shit. They could as well have said - don't fly to Nigeria, you will die!!!

The above has to be the dumbest comment so far.

So, you know you have problems, but Emirates over emphasized right? Kindly highlight which part of the statement is "over emphasized".

Haba, na only for Naija e dey happen?

The point you are trying to make with the statement above is what exactly? That it happens in other countries means Emirates should not mention that it happens in Nigeria?

Everybody protects his image. That is why we wear clothes. People who know they have skin diseases, might try to treat it but while they are being cured, they will also try to mask it by covering up.That is natural.

This statement doesn't even need a comment. So, that is why you wear clothes? to cover skin diseases?

We all know we have problems, and most of the things they said is the truth. But every country in the world has some problem or the other. Nobody yansh clean. But they (UAE) will never write their bad parts on their website.

I tell you what,  the day Nigeria gets its own airline, and offers services to the UAE, it can write all it wants about the UAE, advising its NIGERIANS to beware of crime in the UAE.

Career / Re: Best Place To Start A Career? by MSY: 7:40pm On Dec 21, 2007
The best thing to do is sit down and plan your career. See where you want to be in 5, 10 and 20 years, and then figure out how to get there. That should determine where you start from. If for example you only want to work for 5 years and then start your own business, then you want to start where you will make the most money. If, on the other hand, you want to have a long career, then you want to start where you stand the gain the best experience as well as exposure. Am i making sense ?

To the avid gamers out there, is one better than the other. I am leaning a bit towards the 360, because i hear the graphics are good and it has more games, but i will listen to you guys.

Thanks.
