For the benefit of those who are expecting their packages after receiving approval email: As I stated previously, my wife applied on the 5th of August in Abuja and received the approval email on the 13th of August (two days ago). Her return ticket to the UK was for 16th (on Saturday) so I was understandably worried after hearing stories about the delay between "approval email" and receipt of package. Yesterday, the VFS tracking information changed to "Processed passport in transit to the UK visa application centre". I therefore advised my wife to ignore the UPS service she paid for and fly to Abuja. She did and lo and behold, her package was there and was given to her after she wrote a letter cancelling the UPS service. Based on her experience, it seems to me that passports get to the VAC the day status changes to "application in transit" (the approval email stated "within two working days"  . However, it appears that if you paid for courier, there is no hurry to hand it over to UPS and your package is just left at VFS, perhaps until such a time when they have enough number?(By the way, even as I write, the status on the VFS website still says "processed passport in transit to the UK visa operation centre" 1 Like |

CAS is generated by the UK Home Office and not the school and it can actually be gotten in one working day if the school s serious. If they have actually sent the request as they claim, it should be generated same day or the next day at the most. Bambamzzzz: i just called them and they told me on the phone that the request has been made and that my agent will let me know when the CAS is out, but my question is that who generate the cas number ? is it the school or the immigration please reply oh |

I will STRONGLY advice you to follow the advice of your school's international student support officer. The Tier 4 Policy Guidance is VERY CLEAR about the type of receipt required. Email confirmation DOES NOT fail within the definition. For ease of reference, this is what the guidance states: "If your Tier 4 sponsor has not included details of the money you have already paid on your CAS, you must send an original paper receipt issued by your UK Tier 4 sponsor confirming that you have paid: • all of your fees; or • the amount that you have paid." HudsonBanks: Good evening my people! DonOms: If the payment confirmation is sent directly from your school's official email, and if your name is clearly written as the payer, together with amount paid towards accommodation, then it should be alright to use the email. However, note that the maximum money you can show towards accomm. is £1020. |

From my experiences, they don't. In the past two months, I've had to deal with them twice. In both cases,appointments were booked but no one said anything about it at the gate or inside. As a result, in both cases, the applicants went in as soon as they got to the centre and finished before the times they had appointment for. Bambamzzzz: So abuja dont follow appointment time like lagos?please enlight me on that because lagos will not allow you to enter until 15min to your appointment time pls say something people that have submitted in abuja |

Bambamzzzz: And is it possible to get appointment on monday if you book on friday for abuja? was just thinking it might not have so much crowd like lagos because if i get my reissue cas on friday then i might apply straight away for monday in abuja if possible.You can only book Abuja appointment at least two days in advance. So if you want Monday, you have to book on Thursday. Having said that, Abuja centre doesn't really place emphasis on appointments. They only ask for your passport and application forms at the gate. |

Are you sure of what you are saying? Anyways, if your ViSA start date is actually 6th of October, it goes without saying that you cannot use it until then. cookies: Hello people, please my visa start date is 6th October but I'm planning to leave on 28th of this month, because I need time to settle in before school resumes. ruksy: Goodevening everyone. The information I have gathered here has been extremely useful I must confess and I wish to appreciate everyone's meaningful contribution especially Mr.Justwise. I am having a little issue though. I just tried registering on the UK website so that I can apply for my Visa and book an appointment date. It keeps telling me that my registration is unsuccessful. I don't know what the problem is. Could it be that the website is up only during working hours?It could be that your email has been registered before with the system. I had a similar issue in the past. Try to register with another email address ( if you have another). |

183 Suspected Fake Observers Arraigned in Imo The 183 persons arrested in Imo State on the eve of the November 16 Anambra State governorship election on charges of forging observer accreditation materials and possession of arms were on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, arraigned in Magistrate Court 2, Owerri. They were arraigned for prosecution by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) whose observer accreditation materials they are accused of having forged, following the submission of the investigation report by Investigating Police Officer (IPO) Okoi Omini. The arraignment on Wednesday was not without a dramatic twist, as a lawyer from the office of the Imo State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), C. N. Akobundu, showed up in court and requested to take over the prosecution; arguing that the offences the suspects are being accused of, namely forgery and possession of arms, are criminal in nature. But INEC’s lawyer, Mr. Emmanuel Ogbodu, objected to this request; arguing that forgery of observer accreditation documents is an electoral offence. The Commission’s lawyer also insisted that the State Attorney-General either make personal appearance to request take-over of the prosecution, or that the DPP’s office bring a written mandate from the Attorney-General to that effect. The Magistrate, Mrs. Maureen Onyewotu, adjourned hearing in the case to February 5, 2014, when the lawyers are expected to formally present their arguments. The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos State, Oluwatoyin Obikoya, on Sunday said that emergency repairs would be carried out on portions causing gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. “The contractors are not folding their arms; the bottlenecks at Ibafo area on the Lagos-bound lane will be cleared,” he said was quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria. “Julius Berger will carry out emergency repair of those sections so that motorists would enjoy smooth ride and not spend long time on that road again,“ he said. The controller said logistics were being put in place for the commencement of the reconstruction of the road. The reconstruction, awarded to Julius Berger and RCC Nig. Ltd., was flagged off by President Goodluck Jonathan on July 5. “When a contract is awarded, the contractor usually has to build a site yard which involves acquiring land and clearing trees and grasses. “It has to build an office, establish a quarry, an asphalt plant and all other necessary things, “ he said. Mr. Obikoya said the process could take up to one month or more. He said that the contractors’ major challenge was land acquisition. By Ayo Turton The social media - Twitter, Facebook, different yahoogroups and what-have-you are all buzzing, my in-boxes on all my email accounts have been busy, text messages have not been spared, it has gone spiral that the Nigerian Senate has passed a law that made it right to sexually abuse our minors through forced and premature marriages. Some say the law relating to marriageable age in our Constitution has been removed. Petitions are flying right, left and center to the United Nations, Human Rights organizations across the world and anyone that may care to listen, all requiring me to sign in on the petitions, when I could not ignore the deafening intrusions again and when the name of that guy that bought a baby girl from Egypt for a wife (I mean he is old enough to be her ancestor) keep popping up in all the messages, I decided to get off my butt and get involved and informed. But then it took me just a few phone calls and a quick check on the content of our Constitution to discover that it is just a storm in a tea cup. It turned out that what happened on the floor of the Senate has absolutely nothing to do with a child’s right or marriageable age. Now what really happened; a Senate Committee made recommendations for the amendment of Sections 26 and 29 of the Constitution that dealt with Citizenship and Renunciation of Citizenship respectively. Section 26 of the 1999 Constitution states as follows: 26. (1) Subject to the provisions of section 28 of this Constitution, a person to whom the provisions of this section apply may be registered as a citizen of Nigeria, if the President is satisfied that - (a) he is a person of good character; (b) he has shown a clear intention of his desire to be domiciled in Nigeria; and (c) he has taken the Oath of Allegiance prescribed in the Seventh Schedule to this Constitution. (2) the provisions of this section shall apply to- (a) any woman who is or has been married to a citizen of Nigeria; or (b) every person of full age and capacity born outside Nigeria any of whose grandparents is a citizen of Nigeria. For gender balance, the word “woman” @ section 26 (2) (a) was recommended for removal to cover “men” as well, the amendment passed without an incident. It was recommended that Section 29 (4) (b) of the Constitution be removed as infringing the right of a child because it purportedly remove the maturity age for a child to marry, I do not think so. Here is what Section 29 of the Constitution says: (1) Any citizen of Nigeria of full age who wishes to renounce his Nigerian citizenship shall make a declaration in the prescribed manner for the renunciation. (2) The President shall cause the declaration made under subsection (1) of this section to be registered and upon such registration, the person who made the declaration shall cease to be a citizen of Nigeria. (3) The President may withhold the registration of any declaration made under subsection (1) of this section if- (a) the declaration is made during any war in which Nigeria is physically involved; or (b) in his opinion, it is otherwise contrary to public policy. (4) For the purposes of subsection (1) of this section. (a) "full age" means the age of eighteen years and above; (b) any woman who is married shall be deemed to be of full age. The clause that is really causing this unnecessary hullabaloo is Section 29 (4) (b). That clause has always been part of our laws, but the Senate moved to remove it as infringing on child's right by making every married woman an adult. At the taking of the vote for the first time, they got two-third to remove it from the Constitution. But Yerima stood up and whipped up religious sentiment by galvanizing his Muslim brothers who ignorantly believed him into action. When the peace was threatened, David Mark, the Senate President capitulates and asked that the vote be taken again, at this point they were no longer able to garner two-third votes to remove the provision from the Constitution, so it remains. Now to the legal issue: Section 29 (4) CLEARLY states: "for the purposes of subsection 1" Section 29 subsection (1) CLEARLY states: "Any citizen of Nigeria of full age WHO WISHES TO RENOUNCE HIS NIGERIAN CITIZENSHIP (emphasis mine) shall make a declaration in the prescribed manner for the renunciation". This is called "narrow definition” Subsection (1) narrowly defined under what circumstances the definitions stated at clauses (a) and (b) would be applicable. Therefore clauses (a) and (b) of section 29 (4) are only relevant to "renunciation of citizenship" alone. What made this clearer and should leave no one in doubt is the fact that clause 29 (4) (a) re-emphasized that “full age” shall be 18, but if you are already married, for the purposes of renunciation of citizenship you shall be automatically qualified to do so even if you are not 18 yet. Because you are deemed of "full age" for renunciation reason based on the unambiguous definition given by subsection 29 (1) In any case S. 29 (4) (b) is referring to someone already married not about-to-marry. As a matter of fact, if you ask me, the Constitution as it is, threatens Yerima status than support it. He is married to a baby-girl from Egypt. If that girl suddenly realizes that she has been forced into a marriage with a man old enough to be her ancestor, she can independently renounce her citizenship and take the next train to Egypt. But then, we should seize on this opportunity to pressurize our Senators to make express laws against child’s marriage and abuses. The statistics with regards to cases of Vesico-Vagina Fistula (VVF) in the part of the country where childhood marriage is practiced is not encouraging at all. Let us properly redirect our anger to achieve the desired result, because it is apparent that even the Senate is lost on this, if they think that removing S.29 (4) (b) would take care of a child’s right, they have got another think coming, they need to consult their lawyers more. That section is more useful for a foreign child that has been forced into a marriage than it can benefit anybody when removed." I AM MUAMI and I approve this message! |

We also in our deliberation with our brother, it is also of importance for the hierarchy of our police authority, the IGP, to help in restoring the confidence of the People of Rivers State that have really been greatly diminished in the police command here in Rivers State. It is therefore perfectly okay for a NIGERIAN president to walk behind his NIGERIAN wife when they are being received by NIGERIANS. Whatever Kate of Michelle does is their own problems. You guys should stop all this colonial mentality. In Nigeria, because of the traditional beliefs that men protect women, wives are usually in front on their husbands when they are moving together. First Ladies are usually designated as Chief Hostess of the government and for that reason they are usually in front when their husbands are to be received by officials from their own country in a foreign land.
