Pandemonium broke on Thursday, in Ikotun, Alimosho area of Lagos State following the killing of about five hoodlums who were shot dead by Mobile Police, Mopol, after attacking a popular supermarket and looted various items in the process.

Earlier, a Mopol officer, and another person believed to be a police informant were allegedly killed by hoodlums in Idimu-Ikotun road, Egbe-Idimu Alimosho Local Council Development Area, LCDA.

According to eyewitness, Mr Ayo Akinwale, “At about 2 pm some hoodlums who invaded Ikotun Police Station but found no policeman on ground proceeded to a nearby supermarket, called Twins Faja and looted various items such as computers, households items, wristwatches, foodstuff, among other expensive items.

“While the looters were still operating, a team of Mobile Policemen who arrived the scene following distress call, started shooting at the looters killing at least five persons, while several others were arrested with various gun shot wounds.

“The bodies and those arrested were later taken away in the police vans to an unknown destination.”

When Vanguard visited the crime scene, the shattered glasses and other looted items which could not be taken away littered the ground.

It was also gathered that earlier, a mob had lynched a Mopol while walking along the road in College area of Ikotun, while another unidentified man believed to be police informant was also beaten to death in the presence of his infant daughter while having a stroll.

“Some of the hoodlums who recognised him as police informant raised the alarm before others descended on him and beat him to death in the presence of his daughter, about 7 years old.

“The body of the deceased was later recovered by the Mopol who have been patrolling this area,” Akinwale narrated.

Amid the curfew and following the ugly incidents the entire area was like a ghost town as the road was totally deserted with several Mopol in their vans seen patrolling the area at the time of filling this report, 6.30 pm.

Governor Sanwoolu while answering questions from reporters have clarified that the cameras removed at Lekki Toll Gates were not CCTV cameras but Laser Cameras used to detect approaching vehicles for ticketing. These amongst other unconfirmed news spread on social media were the reason behind the mayhem that has enveloped Lagos State in the last few days.

According to the Governor, he got the information from the MD of LCC who said the cameras were removed to avoid theft since the staff of LCC were planning to obey the curfew imposed by the State Government.

Activist Aisha Yusuf who came back to Nigeria from the UK for the October 1st protests has berated Nigerians for being too afraid to protest despite going through hardship.

The obviously shocked and angry Aisha is seen in the midst of other protesters expressing her displeasure at people who would call her while in the UK and demand for money to pay health bills school fees but refuse to make demands of their government fostering the hardship on them.

"Nigerians make demand of fellow citizens but they dare not make demands of the government that is failing them, that is using them, that is taking their things away. Popular filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has reacted to the social media row involving him and notable actor, Mike Ezuruonye, saying that the later merely misunderstood him.

“While I did not see my innocent reaction to an indicting post by a random IG follower as capable of further hurting my friend and colleague, Mike Ezuruonye, to be labelled a tribalist in retaliation is very unfortunate,” says Afolayan.

“Honestly, I was misunderstood,” the filmmaker says while shedding light on the matter.

“My reaction, which was rather spontaneous, was to chide the IG follower who appeared to be reporting the actor to me. And I merely asked (in Yoruba) how all of that was my business. It was like saying ‘when did I become an officer of the law’. Obviously, my colleague took the context of my post wrongly and angrily accused me of tribalism.

“I do not know what gave birth to such misrepresentation. However, while I am famous for living and promoting everything that my tradition stands for as a Yoruba man, I have maintained a mutual friendship with people of other extractions, Igbos especially. It is therefore not in the interest of both of us (Mike Ezuruonye and I) to politicise our emotion with tribal colouration. For me, this is undeserving of our other friends, and goes to offend the sensibility of genuine relationships we have each cultivated with people of other tribes.”

On how he has been promoting inter-tribal relationships through his works, Afolayan says the facts are there for all to see.

“The ideals are reflected in the themes and plots of my movies, some of which include; The Figurine, The Bridge, Phone Swap, Omugwo, and Roti.”

The filmmaker says he has offered an olive branch on the matter. “I have told Mike ‘I’m sorry’ since he found my post offensive. I am also apologising to anyone who also may have seen things from his point of view. Ire o.”

Laycon is not only a talented entertainer and intelligent speaker but also one that represents the interests of his people. In this video taken in 2019, he spoke against the bill that was aimed at muzzling social media critics and the excesses of the Nigerian government.

My fellow countrymen, I wake up to the lies of my government. They want to control what I say to my fellow men. Somebody has got to tell this government, this isn't intelligence. The country is harsh, the weather is harsh, the road are a mess. Everything here is against you attaining your best now they want to take away that which makes us human, which gives us freedom, which gives us laughter even if it is for a moment.
