A farmer in eastern India has found a yellow turtle which experts say is the product of albinism. Basudev Mahapatra spotted the turtle while he was working in his fields in the village of Sujanpur, in Odisha's Balasore district, and decided to bring it home, forest official Susanta Nanda told CNN on Tuesday. Mahapatra found the turtle on Sunday and handed it over to forest officials, who called in conservation experts. Siddhartha Pati, executive director at the Association for Biodiversity Conservation, which works to protect wildlife and habitats, told CNN it was the first time he had seen this kind of turtle. Pati explained that the creature's color is due to albinism. "It is a congenital disorder and it is characterized by complete or partial absence of tyrosine pigment," he said. "Also, sometimes a mutation takes place in the gene sequence or there is a deficiency of tyrosine." The turtle has now been released into the wild in Balasore, added Pati. The turtle is known as the Indian flapshell turtle. This one was an adult -- believed to be between one and a half and two years old. "We find turtles and crabs regularly and we rescue them and release them into the water. But this is the first time in Odisha and second time in India that an albino turtle has been found," said Pati. The turtle is commonly found in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar. It is omnivorous and its diet consists of frogs, snails and even some aquatic vegetation, he added. In 2016, a rare albino green turtle -- newly hatched -- was spotted on an Australian beach. Volunteers from Coolum and North Shore Coast Care were "amazed" to see the tiny creature, which they named Little Alby, at Castaways Beach, on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Rights group, Ijaw People’s Development Initiative, IPDI, has said former General Officer Commanding, Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND, Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo, acquitted of fraud charges by Federal High Court, Lagos, last week, had restless nights in the forest, where he survived for four years, forsaken by his friends. IPDI, in a statement by the Board of Trustees, BOT, Chairman, Mr. Cletus Itari, applauding the ex-militant leader for his doggedness, asserted that “the last four years were sad for him. “Many of Tompolo’s friends abandoned him; some of his brothers deserted him and confidantes ran away. “Many thought his end had come; his enemies were happy when he was declared wanted for the second time. He lived in the forest for the past four years without a night’s sleep. “A selfless man was crucified for nothing. When we say the man was innocent, people refused to listen, but now, every eye has seen. “He was sold out for peanut by his brothers like Joseph’s brothers did in the Bible. They wanted him dead because they see him as a threat. Some are so envious of his position in life and others jealous of his prominence. Not surprised court discharged him “As a group, we salute High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, aka, Tompolo, on his victory at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos. “He was witch-hunted and unlawfully persecuted. We knew the EFCC 40-count charge levied against him were frivolous and baseless and were only meant to intimidate him. These were the reasons we maintained our support for him. “The dismissal of the charges against Tompolo does not come as a surprise to IPDI. It only shows that Nigerian government cannot be trusted. “His victory is a victory for all Ijaw people and Niger Deltans. But it is a pity that an innocent man could be humiliated for this long time. “IPDI and few others stood behind him, which he described as his new friends in one of his interviews with Vanguard in 2016. “Truly, we became his new friend and we never shifted ground for any government agent to continue its blackmail. We were hunted for standing with Tompolo. We ran from pillar to post, yet we never gave up. “The intimidation was severe, but IPDI’s voice became louder. Tompolo was declared wanted for the second time. The ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom was invaded several times. “Tompolo’s father High Chief Thomas Ekpemupolo was brutalised by the Nigerian Military and thereafter, his leg was amputated and he died. “Our former spokesperson, Comrade Daniel Ezekiel, was arrested and detained for one year and five months. Our President, Ozobo Austin, narrowly escaped arrest and other Tompolo’s close allies were arrested. “Tompolo was framed up as a member of Niger Delta Avengers and the military became brutal and lawless. IPDI and few others standing with Tompolo were declared wanted. “We suffered in our resolve to stand with Tompolo. All these were caused by the personal interest of few friends and brothers of the innocent man, though we have been vindicated by his all-round victory declared by the judiciary.” Source: https://www.today.ng/news/nigeria/ipdi-tompolo-spent-4-sleepless-years-forest-abandoned-friends

You know what they say, another day another dollar. Well, make that $13 billion if you’re Jeff Bezos. You heard me...$13 billion. According to Bloomberg, Bezos’ riches soared on Monday, after Amazon.com Inc. shares rose 7.9 percent, the company’s largest single-day increase since December 2018. This resulted in Bezos having the largest single-day jump for an individual’s net worth since the Bloomberg Billionaires Index was created in 2012. Bezos, who is already the richest person in the world, has seen an increase in his net worth from $74 billion to $189.3 billion in 2020. This is happening as everyday Americans are struggling to pay rent, afford healthcare, and are losing their jobs because of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the country experiences the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, it’s important to remember that Amazon paid little to no federal taxes for the past several years. While people are forced to rely on services like Amazon in order to stay home, Bloomberg points out that other tech lords are reaping the benefits of our national crisis. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly added $15 billion to his fortune in 2020 so far. Numbers like these aren’t inspiring or funny, but instead, depressing. It’s depressing that Americans are being kicked out of their homes and struggling to find work while people like Bezos and Zuckerberg line their pockets, all while putting their workers at risk or spreading misinformation about the upcoming election. A petrol tanker navigating a very bad part of the Apapa express road around Berger bus stop fell and spilled its content on the road. Emergency workers were on the scene containing he situation so that the petrol does not explode. Bad roads, faulty vehicle and at times Driving under influence are the major cause of these kind of road havoc. A proudly Nigerian son and torchbearer, Wole Soyinka is 86 today. Here is his experience of how he gets mistaken as Morgan Freeman at times. As an internationally renowned artist, Soyinka is much-sought. He described numerous commitments, so many that, he explained, he enjoyed sometimes being mistaken for Morgan Freeman: "You lose your anonymity. You lose your leisure. There is always a demand for one reason or another. In fact, things get so bad, I actually feel happy when I'm mistaken for Morgan Freeman... People come up to me and say 'You must be the writer. No, Morgan Freeman! Can I have an autograph?'... It got so bad one day, that I had to sign Morgan Freeman for a family until they would leave me alone because they refused to accept. They were describing in fact a film I'd acted in, and they said, 'How did you manage to get one woman. You were on that sign, and then you appeared on the other, in a totally different mood.' I said, 'Well, you know, we get trained for these things.'" Morgan Freeman is the star of movies like Shawshank Redemption, Invictus, Angel has fallen, Wanted, Lean on me, Dark Night, Oblivion, Just getting started and many more. There was a clash between Islamic leaders and some traditionalists on Tuesday in Sagamu, Ogun State, over the custody of the corpse of a 32-year-old man who committed suicide. The deceased, Muhammed Jamiu, an electrician and father of one, reportedly killed himself in his room on Yakubu Habibu Street, Agura, Sabo, Sagamu, on Monday night. PUNCH Metro gathered that although the deceased was a Muslim, some traditionalists attempted to take possession of his remains shortly after the news filtered. The traditionalists reportedly insisted that a ritual must be performed to avoid any repercussion of the death in the area. Speaking with PUNCH Metro, the Imam of Aduragbemi Mosque in Agura Sabo, where the deceased prayed before his death, Nurain Ilyas, said his members were shocked by Jamiu’s death. He noted that they became more worried when the traditional worshipers attempted to take over his corpse. Ilyas said, “His name is Muhammadu Jamiu. He was 32 years of age. He was an electrician. He was married with one kid, but divorced many years ago. “He was an easygoing person. He used to pray in my mosque and I always admonished him to make his faith stronger. I think he hanged himself. “The police came to inspect the scene after it happened on Monday night.” Ilyas said no suicide note was found around the scene of the incident. On the clash between the two religious groups, another Islamic leader, Imam Sonubi Dauda, said the matter was later taken to the palace of the traditional ruler in the area. According to him, representatives of the traditional worshipers requested contributions for a ritual to be performed. “They asked for about N150,000 before they reduced it to N25,000; but we refused and did not give them a dime. “We collected the key to the room where the man hanged himself from them. I don’t know their problem since the police had ordered that the corpse should be buried,” he added. Dauda said the man was later buried according to Islamic rites. The leader of the Osugbo-Remo in Sagamu, Ifasola Opeodu, confirmed the incident as well. Source: https://punchng.com/traditional-worshippers-islamic-leaders-clash-over-suicide-victims-corps

A Twitter user has called out a lady who refused to save the life another person after Nigerians contributed N6m to save her own child who needed N100k for treatment. According to @bimbo_cash, the lady insisted that she has used the money contributed to save the life of her baby to buy a land and car, when they reached out to her to help save the life of another woman who needed to undergo a surgery. She tweeted; You needed help for your baby who had a home accident . Fortunately, she got more than enough . You got 6M naira whereas 100,000 naira was all you needed . The baby is fine . They pleaded with you to help another very sick woman from the money raised .You refused. What is this ? Even if it's just 50k , help this woman . You insisted you have bought a car and a land immediately the money raised was sent to you . I don't know what to call this . This is just sad to hear . You didn't even save for the baby's future The sick woman was discharged from the hospital due to lack of fund for her surgery. I still called you to beg you to help this woman with anything you can part with . Give back to humanity , no matter how small . I understand that the money is for the baby and raised for him It is just morally right to give back any little you can and then open account for your baby but no , you bought car and land and you are saying the money is finished money raised from the public . I'm so sad She said it's God that favored her and the money is for her baby . She's right though, that's what she used to silence me o. It's because the person that did fundraising was transparent and kind enough to transfer all the fund to her after leaving the hospital na She's adamant . Even her husband fought to share from it and was given 1M . How on Earth you finish 6M in one month? Money she wasn't expecting before now Source: https://twitter.com/bimbo_cash/status/1280080518604881920
