A 35-year-old commercial driver, Yusuf Waheed, has been arrested in Ondo State, for forcefully having the carnal knowledge of a female student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, Osun State.

Waheed, a father of three, committed the offense on 25th of February 2018. He was said to be taking some passengers from Akure to Abeokuta, but stopped by the bush to commit the rape when all the other passengers had alighted and he was left alone with the lady.

According to Femi Joseph, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command: "He brought out a knife and threatening the lady and disposed her of Infinix handset, Huawei IPad, cash sum of N4,000 and other valuable items.

As if is not enough, Waheed forcefully had a carnal knowledge of the lady and she reported the case to the police in the station and we swung into action". The suspect was later arrested in Ogun state.

During interrogation with journalists, the culprit Waheed blamed the devil for his escapade. He said: "I have a wife and three children. I don't know what came over me, maybe it was because I relocated to Abeokuta.”

Ten Nigerians suspected to be internet fraudsters, have been arrested in a house at Ashongman Estate, Accra, by the Kwabenya Police

The suspects are identified As:

Diamond Andy, 22, Benson Romeo, 20, Randy Samuel, 25, Kelvin Agho, 23, Osas Igbo, 21, David Okondu, 23, Praise Onyekwena, 22, Ohis David, 25, Duru Wisdom, 22 and Uyi Ighodaro, 24.

Six internet modems, 54 different SIM cards, 9 laptops and 5 mobile phones were retrieved from them. The suspects, according to DSP James Aseidu, District Commander of Kwabenya Police Station, who led the operation, had set up computers in a room.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP George Alex Mensah, said the arrests were made on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 around 2pm. “The suspects are often not seen during the day and often move out at night everyday to have fun with friends.

Police also discovered that the suspects do not work but lead lavish lifestyles in the area. This prompted the police to raid the said house to arrest the suspects," he said.

Thirty-nine Nigerians have been rescued from a sex slave trade in Spain, the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) has said.

The trafficking ring was said to have been organised by Nigerians and the victims were reportedly forced to reside in “cave-like houses”.

They were freed in a joint operation involving the NCA, Spanish law enforcement and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

The victims — many of whom are said to be under 18 — were reportedly forced to undergo ‘voodoo-juju’ rituals in Nigeria by some traffickers linked with an organised criminal network known as the Eiye Confraternity.

“They were then moved by boat to Libya and Italy, before arriving in Spain,” the NCA said in a statement on its website.

“The women were forced to live in cave-like houses in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, unable to leave and sexually exploited for the sole purpose of financial gain for the gang leaders, with all money eventually ending up in their hands in Nigeria.”

The statement said a total of 89 people – including the leader of the gang – were arrested in the course of the investigation, with 43 of them remanded in prison.

Among them is a “Nigerian Madame living in Middleton, Greater Manchester, believed to be controlling some of the victims in Spain, and paying money to the OCG back in Nigeria”.

Tom Dowdall, deputy director, modern slavery and human trafficking threat of the NCA, was quoted to have described the sex trafficking as a “complex and extensive operation with deep-rooted organisation both in Nigeria and Spain.
