I know many people who pay their rent one month after expiration and some even stay more than that. The way he was talking that first time even when it wasn't up to two weeks. Now he wants me to buy him drink. Well I may just buy him the drink but he is inconsiderate.

Let this be the last time you'd do such. He knows what he's doing.

Stop enabling his bad attitude. If he couldn't give you the grace of a few days or weeks to pay him a new rent, you don't need to buy him any drink.

Relax bro, there is reason for every action and inaction, you can never tell if he has seen some bad traits in him or a jealous type or someone with loose mouth. You can be good to someone and still be hurting them emotionally. I have seen where a guy accommodate his friend and start sleeping with his girlfriend. I have also seen someone who accommodate a friend and still bad mouthed him to their neighbour that want to get job for him. His friend knows better than us, this might go beyond being ungrateful, because ungrateful people don't usually ghost you, they could be your friend and still not appreciate or reciprocate your kind gesture.

Besides, things are not always what we think they are, he might have lost his phone or his number, he might be in prison, he might have even been deported or left for another country.

He should have left his house within the 9 months if the host was supposedly bad to his I'm different ways as you've suggested. He didn't leave but instead stayed to eat, sleep, bathe and do all sort for 9 months. Nigerians just hate accountability and irresponsibility.

You didn't trust him enough with your travel plans even if it was to tell him after you got your visa, which was the appropriate thing to do but instead you stayed back. You all underrate what it means to provide accommodation for people especially non-relatives.

Whether he's been deported or in jail shouldn't be a discussion because we all know that the probability of that happening is very low!

Unfortunately, many friendships are solely transactional these days.

There are expectation or certain things people expect when someone travels out, those things bring stress.

And again mindset, when this ways of thinking build up, sometimes, people just run away from anything stressful or go into avoidance mode.

That is why people need to understand what is happening to choose how to face situations like this.

People will always have expectations from you when you are abroad or successful. It's left for you to prioritize them. Nobody can force you to do anything for them. Irrespective of what you do, some will still grumble. It's none of your business.

This is why I always advise people to have friends that are not burden to you so that when any of you make it in life or travel abroad, you won't be burdened with unnecessary demands from one another.

It's shameful how some friends behave and become demanding of their friends abroad. Asking for 2k, 3k or data every market days. Asking for birthday money, clothing money, etc. It's irritating!

But if your friends don't demand for irrelevant things, try your best to elevate them and support them!

Exactly! I don't even believe all this conversation about "abroad is not easy bla bla bla" because nowhere is easy!

Being abroad doesn't stop you from communicating with your friends. Even if it's just 30 minutes in a week, it's something except they are becoming a financial burden and inconsiderate.

It is a gutter behavior. Anyone that cut you off after traveling abroad or making it in life was never a good friend. Never cut your friends or family off.

I believe as Africans many people would live with relatives at some point in their life out of necessity, circumstances, privilege or choice. But many would live out of circumstances and necessity that. We're communal in Africa.

However, your host will have their good side and flaws and you should be patient enough to understand that you still have long journey ahead of you. Don't be deterred by your current experience while living with them.

Endure the pain, insult and suffering. Enjoy the happiness, love and peace. It's a mixture of both endurance and comfort. What you will be should not be defined by what you are.
