Apple has issued an investor update warning the ongoing coronavirus epidemic has seriously curtailed its production of iPhones in China. In a statement issued on Monday, the company said it would no longer meet its revenue predictions for the first quarter of 2020, which had previously been based on an eight per cent surge to $AU84 billion recorded for the last three months of 2019. “Work is starting to resume around the country, but we are experiencing a slower return to normal conditions than we had anticipated,” Apple said in the statement. “Worldwide iPhone supply will be temporarily constrained.” Apple went on to say that although its iPhone manufacturing partner in China, Foxconn, operated plants outside of the virus’ epicentre in the Hubei province, facilities throughout the country were reopening and recommencing production at a slower rate than expected. “The health and well-being of every person who helps make these products possible is our paramount priority, and we are working in close consultation with our suppliers and public health experts as this ramp continues,” the statement said. “These iPhone supply shortages will temporarily affect revenues worldwide.” The predicted drop in revenue is also based on plummeting sales of Apple products in its third-largest market. Apple closed all its stores in mainland China as the virus took hold. While the company says it is now gradually reopening them, few people are walking in through the doors. https://7news.com.au/travel/coronavirus/coronavirus-threatens-worldwide-supply-of-iphones-apple-warns-c-703644

After numerous Italian communities have tried to revive their dwindling populations by selling off dilapidated homes for little more than a dollar, one town has come up with a new approach. Teora, a pretty destination located in the southern region of Campania, is hoping to lure potential residents by offering to pay towards their rent if they move in. While the $1.60 home deals have been a huge success across Italy, with towns from Sicily in the south to the northern Alps attracting new residents committed to investing in extensive renovations, it’s feared that those buying into it are just acquiring cheap holiday homes rather than settling down. Teora thinks its plan will work better. It says it will pay newcomers €150 per month (about AUD243) toward the cost of renting an empty house there over the course of two years, or offer them €5,000(AUD8097) to buy one themselves. Buyers will need to take up residency in Teora for at least three years, and they must already have at least one child when they apply. “I don’t believe in selling empty houses for €1, that doesn’t incentivise people to stay in town,” Stefano Farina, the mayor of Teora, tells CNN. “They just come a few months a year as holidaymakers. That’s not the solution. But taking up residency and enrolling kids at the local school, that does breathe new life.” Earthquake aftermath According to Farina, the town’s population decreased dramatically after an earthquake in 1980, which caused severe damage to Teora, as well as nearby Lioni, and has never fully recovered. “Two babies are born [in Teora] each year versus 20 elders who die,” he explains. “We’re down to barely 1,500 residents. After the terrible quake, many young people fled. “I want to invert this negative trend. Children the future “Children are our future, new families will be the building blocks of our shrinking community, so we encourage those with more kids to apply.” Teora may just have the edge on fellow Italian towns when it comes to the cost of relocating. Currently, a rental here can cost as little as €200 per month, while 100-square-meter homes are on the market for just €30,000. This means those opting to rent one of the properties could end up paying just €50 a month. Teora is close to Naples and Rome. Michele Notaro/Comune Teora Meanwhile, the final cost of a home would shrink down to around €25,000 with the mayor’s €5,000 gift - less than the amount €1 home buyers have invested in restyling their crumbling properties. The available houses are all in good condition, as they were rebuilt from scratch after the earthquake. Some even come with furniture. Fees waived The town is also offering to waive school meal fees and local taxes for local services. “So far two Italian families have settled down and one from Brazil with Italian roots,” adds Farina. “They even brought along the grandparents.” He hopes many others will follow suit. But what can Teora offer that other Italian towns can’t? https://7news.com.au/news/travel/italian-city-of-toera-will-pay-your-rent-if-you-choose-to-visit--c-703537

A fraud victim whose Paypal account was hacked sent a hilarious letter to the woman responsible - after she left her name and address. Huw Evans, 23, was enjoying a night at his local pub with a pal when he received a message from the online payment system thanking him for his ‘purchase’. He was shocked to see a receipt pop up for $135 (AUD), spent on clothing website Prettylittlethings.com. Huw, who works in marketing, said he knew straight away the purchase wasn’t made by him. When he checked his account he found details for a woman called ‘Lauryn’ at an address in Merton Park, south west London. Paypal also quickly realised the purchase wasn’t made by Huw, and sent him a full refund. The paypal reciept that Huw Evans got Lauryn's details from. In it witty reply Huw, of Redhill, Surrey, wrote that he “is not a pit of money” and signs it off with “warm regards and f**k you”. Single Huw said: “Me and my friend drafted the letter together and we just wanted to be sarcastic about it. Huw Evans. The buyer used his Paypal to buy two items of clothing costing a total of $135 (AUD) As well as her name she also left her delivery address - which gave Huw the inspiration he needed to write his letter as a way of acting revenge. The next morning Huw sat down to write the letter out in full. In the hilarious missive Huw hits out at the “cheeky little ragamuffin” who stole money from his account. The full letter He wrote: “My Dearest Lauryn, I hope this letter finds you well, elegantly clad in your newest purchases from PrettyLittleThings. “I am writing to you on this crisp February morning to ask you to f******’ not. “Whilst I appreciate the appeal of free stuff is often insurmountable, I regret I am not a pit of money and my kindness does not extend to the non-consensual purchases of tacky clothing for total strangers. “I highly recommend you embark on an administrative apprenticeship, or indeed any other job, so that you may self-fund these extravagant endeavours in the future. He said he is concerned at how his account was seemingly hacked and has since changed his login details. https://7news.com.au/lifestyle/personal-finance/man-tracks-down-woman-who-hacked-his-paypal-account-and-sends-hilarious-message--c-700963.amp
