Foundation block work complete. Backfilling and ramming will be next
|
You can then build the number of block courses to raise your foundation level as required. On this site we are only adding 1 course of blocks.
|
This ensures that the foundation is rigid and strong. It also saves money and materials than the the conventional block wall foundations.
|
After concreting the footings, we casted the columns to the natural ground level. We excavated only the top soil on site. We then connected the columns with a plinth beam. You can see in the picture below. |
I've not been able to post lately cause I've been so busy. |
Each foundation column has 6Y12 TMT bars. With Y16 for the pad footings. The depth of concreting of the pads range from 400mm to 700mm. Some footings are about 1.4by1.4m up to 2by2.3m dimensions. It will require about 25cubic meters of concrete to cast the footings

Iron rods transportation in progress. Each set of bars was labeled to know the right placement location
|
We've finally cleared the foundation and transported the prepared iron rods to the site. |
We had a problem on site. It rained heavily that day and most of the mud went back in to the trenches. It has caused a big delay for us. Only thankful that we have at least done our blinding. We can still know the depth level. This is additional and unforeseen costs and delays for us😔.
|
Iron works cannot also be done on site. So I gave the iron bender the bar bending schedules to enable him do the iron works in a different location. When the excavation is done, he will just fix the reinforcements in the right places. Simple! |
We're having serious space constraints in the site and the sand is piling up. I'll have to relocate the remaining reinforcement bars to a different location.
|
Here's the foundation layout. We have 16 pad footings
|
We've started excavation. This is the layout of the footings. I designed the foundation footings to be 1.2m deep. However due to the existing dpc level of the old building, we had to dig as deep as 1.7m in some places to maintain the right level |
We started making drainage cover slabs. We casted by the road side and placed. Do you know why we placed stones under the reinforcement?
|
Foundation digging will start soon. I will be doing a slightly different kind of foundation. It will be a pad foundation with plinth beams connecting the columns. No need for foundation blocks. This will save cost and make a stronger foundation 💪🏾 |
The are is now mostly clear, we were able to recover some good quality rods and we keep them in a secure location close by. I also instructed the carpenter to build a security man house
|
Making some progress...
|
You can see the amount of rubbles and we're just half way |
Luckily it was rainy season and the people in the areas needed rubbles to fill their streets and houses! People also came that needed rubbles in large quantities to backfill their sites😁 |
Our next challenge was where to dispose rubbles which has started piling up. I went enquire about hiring a dump truck to pack the rubbles to a nearby open space. They said they will charge me 10k per trip. And the whole thing will require nothing less than 80 trip. Did the math and knew it was not feasible |
We started removing the roof, doors, windows, wires. Alot of these items will be useful in the new building. We had to hire a store near by to keep them safely.
|
Here is how it will look (God willing) upon completion. It will have 15 single shops, 2 double shops, 3 offices (with a toilet each), Managers office and, 4 public toilets on each floor. Don't forget to follow closely on this Exciting journey!

This house will be demolished and the plaza will be built on the land. The land size is about 50 by 50ft
|
Hello Engrs, Builders, Architects and everyone here! You're welcome to this page where we will follow this journey of building a plaza in Kano state. |
Great work sir! My question is that what is the advantage of building the carcass first before blockwork? Instead of doing the blockwork and cast the pillars together? Thank you very much! |
Hello! What will be the ideal thickness of a 1.5m cantilever slab (without beam support) for a balcony and what reinforcement is recommended? Thanks |
Drahl:Interesting as I didn't see it in either their website or on social media. Anyways we meuve. |
Drahl:That's for last year 2022/2023. Uptill now there's no news about interview invite or nomination for 2023/2024 which should have been done before now. Except if "Nigerian factor" took over, and if that's the case then focus on other scholarships. |
Drahl:Seems it was lowkey |
Drahl:Did FSB called for interview last month? I had no idea |
Last last as said in their website "Selection for the award will be based strictly on performance in the interview" may God make us amongst the successful ones. Ameen! |
FatimaMK:You mean this list is in order of the highest to the lowest scores of shortlisted candidates? |
