http://saharareporters.com/2015/09/02/tyrannical-gambian-regime-revokes-al-jazeera-press-permits SaharaReporters notes that Mrs. Soi’s reporting credentials were revoked on the same day her story titled “Being A Journalist In Gambia,” which was critical of the government’s human rights record, was published on Al Jazeera. Some Al Jazeera journalists had their press passes revoked by Gambia’s Ministry of Information and Communication on Tuesday, according to media sources. The journalists were initially granted reporting credentials by the Gambian authorities to report on human-interest stories and HIV/AIDS treatment programs, but they were revoked on Tuesday after the team arrived. Catherine Wambuo-Soi, one of the journalists, told media outlets that “we have got approval from the government to travel to Banjul to do some human interest stories, but unfortunately a day after our arrival, we were told by our fixer that the government through the ministry of information has asked us not to film anything or else risk being arrested.” SaharaReporters notes that Mrs. Soi’s reporting credentials were revoked on the same day her story titled “Being A Journalist In Gambia,” which was critical of the government’s human rights record, was published on Al Jazeera. According to Mrs. Soi, Gambian authorities stated that she and her team were not permitted to report in Gambia until authorized by the Gambian President Yahya Jemmah. The Gambia has one of the most atrocious human rights and press freedom records in world. President Jemmah immediately targeted the free media after he toppled the former government in a 1994 coup. The Freedom House, which ranks all countries in the world based the freedom of its citizens, has ranked Gambia one of the least free countries in the world.

source :- http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/189334-efcc-arrests-adamawa-university-vc-others-for-selling-n13m-suv-as-scrap.html The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday arrested top officials of the Adamawa State University for selling a N13 million government-owned Toyota Land Cruiser as scrap. The commission’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES. Mr. Uwujaren said the vice chancellor of the university, Shall David Joshua, and the bursar, K.E. Anjili, were among those arrested. “Our operatives in Yola, Adamawa State today arrested top officials of the Adamawa State University for questioning over the sale of a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser jeep as scrap to the former FRSC boss, Haladu Hananiya,” the EFCC spokesperson said. PREMIUM TIMES had on August 6 reported how a former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Haladu Hananiya, paid N150,000 for a new Toyota Land Cruiser SUV worth N13 million. Mr. Hananiya is alleged to have used his position as former Chairman, Governing Council of the Adamawa State University, ADSU, to convert the vehicle to his personal property. The university bought the vehicle on January 28, 2015, several months after the former FRSC boss ceased to be chairman of the institution’s board. Seven days later, the car was passed to Mr. Hananiya who bought it off as scrap, paying a only N150, 000. Mr. Hananiya was appointed chairman of ADSU governing council on August 16, 2014. About two months into his four-year tenure; the state government sacked the board on October 8, 2014. Investigation showed that the vehicle was purchased from AS Galadima Motors, located at Dawaki Junction, opposite Charley Boy Bus Stop, Kubwa Express Way, Abuja, with receipt number 0006 and sales invoice no: 0106. A petition sent to the EFCC said that prior to Mr. Hananiya’s appointment, the university’s management passed a resolution empowering principal officers to retain official vehicles after paying the scrap value of N150, 000. “Principal officers are entitled to retain their official vehicles once during their tenures after paying the scrap value of N150, 000; and if for any reason an officer leaves office after spending two years or half of the tenure, he shall pay the scrap value of N150, 000,” part of the resolution reads. its SAHARA REPORTERS again http://saharareporters.com/2015/08/21/former-nigerian-maximum-ruler-abacha-handed-millions-anglican-church-leaders-exclusive Former Nigerian Maximum Ruler, Abacha, Handed Millions To Anglican Church Leaders, Exclusive Documents Revealed Documents exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters reveals that former military ruler, Sani Abacha, gave millions of dollars in public funds to leaders of the Anglican Church of Nigeria during his brutal reign. Mr. Abacha's regime was marked by draconian decrees, the I incarceration or hanging of dissidents, most famously Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni 8, as well as massive corruption. Before his death in November 1998, Mr. Abacha had squandered hundreds of millions of dollars to buy political support for his plan to succeed himself as a civilian president. The documents obtained by SaharaReporters reveal that Sani Abacha approved $5 million to fund the leaders of the Anglican Church of Nigeria on a trip to the 1998 Lambeth Conference in London. The Lambeth Conference is a gathering of Anglican leaders from around the world that takes place every ten years. The documents reveal that more than $1 million of the fund was delivered specifically to Peter Akinola, the then Anglican Archbishop of Abuja. Ismaila Gwarzo, the National Security Advisor (NSA) under Sani Abacha, was the liaison for the head of state in the delivery of $1,021,388 to Archbishop Akinola, the documents reveal. The funds were delivered “in the usual manner,” the document disclosed, via the Special Services Office. Mr. Gwarzo initially sent the money to his aide, Haliru Suleiman, who at the time worked in the Special Services Office of the Federal Secretariat in Abuja. Mr. Gwarzo then “called the Lord Archbishop of Abuja, Bishop Peter Akinola, to receive the money personally from Gwarzo’s aide." The transaction reportedly took place in the office of Anthony Ani, the Finance Minister in the Abacha regime, according to Mr. Ani’s own testimony. Archbishop Akinola claimed to have handed over the more-than-$1 million fund to the Primate of the Anglican Church of Nigeria, Archbishop J. Abiodun Adetiloye, who had reportedly requested for the funds from Mr. Abacha's regime to assist Nigeria's Anglican bishops in attending the decennial conference.

its SAHARA REPORTERS again http://saharareporters.com/2015/08/21/nigeria’s-newly-appointed-head-federal-inland-revenue-services-removes-fake-honorary Following an investigation by SaharaReporters which disclosed that Williams Babatunde Fowler, tipped yesterday by President Muhammadu Buhari to head Nigeria’s Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), claims an honorary doctorate degree from a shady institution in England known as the “Irish International University”, Mr. Fowler has engaged in desperate efforts to erase the controversial title from the internet especially on Wikipedia. The so-called university was long exposed as a fake degree mill, akin to the equally phantom “Buxton University” named by Senator Andy Uba, former domestic aide to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, as the source of his “PhD.” The listing of Mr. Fowler’s academic degree raised eyebrows among Nigerians, especially on social media after SaharaReporters sent out a tweet exposing Mr. Fowler’s link with the fake university, an award that gave him the entitlement to refer to himself as “Dr. Fowler”. Stung by the revelation, Mr. Fowler whose appointment as the head of the FIRS was reportedly facilitated by Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party, has edited his bio on the web pages of the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS)http:// www.lirs.gov.ng/mr-babatunde-fowler-full- resume/ but Mr. Fowler’s handlers are yet to remove his “Dr” title from his personal webpage http://meetfowler.com/aboutme.html. A Facebook post by a US-based academic, Farooq Kperogi, typified the critical response to the controversial appointment of Mr. Fowler. “After months of delays, ostensibly to properly vet his appointees, President Buhari just appointed somebody that may turn out to be a total fraud,” stated Mr. Kperogi, who earned a Ph.D. His Facebook post added that Mr. Buhari “appointed a certain ‘Dr.’ William Babatunde Fowler as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). Mr. Fowler’s lower degrees appear legitimate. Biographical entries on Wikipedia state that Mr. Fowler “obtained his first Bachelors’ degree with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a minor in Political Science in 1978. He completed a second bachelors’ degree program at California State University, Los Angeles and also a Master of Business Administration degree program at California State University, Dominguez Hills in 1981.” As at yesterday Wikipedia listed Mr. Fowler’s so-called “Honorary Doctorate Degree” from the Irish International University on their page but overnight efforts were made to remove any reference to the Irish International University honorary degree from Fowler’s Wikipedia entry. Our correspondent’s check on the self-styled Irish International University showed that it is a fake “university” linked to Baron Knowth, a chartered accountant whose real name is Jeffrey Wooller. In 2008, the BBC exposed Irish International University as [a] fake university offering “substandard and worthless degrees.” Mr. Wooller, “a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, owns a £1.2m townhouse in Kensington but spends most of his time living as a tax exile in Monte Carlo,” the BBC reported. Our investigation also revealed that several Nigerian politicians, prominent among them former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Lagos State, had received honorary degrees from the Irish International University. Mr. Tinubu, who is the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is believed to have pushed for Mr. Fowler’s appointment. In addition to Mr. Tinubu, other Nigerians like broadcaster Bisi Olatilo, the owner of UK-based BEN TV, Alistair Soyode, politician Timi Alaibe, Senator Grace Bent, and a traditional ruler, Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinrutan of Ugbo Kingdom in Ondo State, received fake honorary degrees at a shady event orchestrated by the fake university in London. Forbes magazine named Oba Akinrutan the second richest monarch in Africa, behind the King of Morocco. The ostentatious monarch often boasts to reporters about his $1 million wristwatch and his fleet of cars, including a Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Mr. Fowler claimed to have received his so-called honorary degree from the Irish International University in May 2007. |
Amid the controversies generated following revelations that the newly appointed head of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Babatunde Fowler, was brandishing a fake doctorate degree from a United Kingdom institution, Irish International University, the 59-year-old has since dropped the honourary degree from his Wikipedia entry. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday named Fowler as the new head of the FIRS, but hours after the announcement of his appointment, it emerged that his doctorate degree might have been fraudulently obtained. Sahara Reporters, an online news platform, claimed in one of its stories that Fowler’s ‘Ph.D’ obtained from IIU in May 2007 was fake. The former Lagos Internal Revenue Service boss, according to SR, “engaged in desperate efforts to erase the controversial title from the Internet especially on Wikipedia.” His biography has been edited on the website of the LIRS while the title of “Dr.” remains on his personal webpage. Seven years ago, a BBC investigation labelled IIU as a fake institution dishing out “substandard and worthless degrees” to individuals, especially influential politicians and business men from Africa. The non-existent university is said to be linked to Baron Knowth, a chartered accountant whose real name was discovered to be Jeffrey Wooller. source http://www.punchng.com/news/new-firs-boss-deletes-phd-degree-from-wikipedia/ |
