PoliticsPresident Buhari’s Spokesmen Pose More Threat Than PDP by multikolour(op): 1:37pm On Jul 08, 2015
More and more Nigerians feel
inclined to agree that President Muhammadu
Buhari should deal with frictions that have
prevented him and his party, the APC, from
demonstrating tangible results in the first month
of governance. The Naij.com columnist ‘Yomi
Kazeem goes even further and says that
President Buhari should first focus on his
spokesmen — the ‘bridge’ between him and the
people — instead of trying to battle some
external forces, incuding the PDP which is now
in the opposition to the ruling APC.
Amid the various criticisms Goodluck
Jonathan faced over the course of his
presidency, one particular criticism remained
constant: the poor choice of media handlers.
Jonathan’s spokesmen won him little support
as, gaffe after gaffe, they turned out to be
one of the biggest reasons for the
disillusionment with the his presidency.
On social media, these men — the
mouthpieces of a president — were often
seen engaging in abusive exchanges (the
online version of fisticuffs) with regular
Nigerians. Their ‘ability’ to read the tone and
mood of the nation was infamously horrible.
They became notorious for publishing photos
of President Jonathan dancing and being
merry a day after bomb explosions and deaths
of Nigerians.
As far as presidential spokesmen go, the last
set was a clear manual of how not to be a
presidential spokesman.
Given the widespread belief that President
Jonathan’s handling of the media and choice
of spokesmen might have cost him the
presidency to some extent, everyone assumed
it would literally be impossible for his
successor to repeat the same mistakes.
Nevertheless, one month into the Buhari
presidency, the murmurs of his ineptitude
considering media handling are becoming
more and more audible.
Primarily, the job of a presidential
spokesperson is to relay messages from the
president to Nigerians. But their job often
goes far beyond that in many ways. One of
their biggest roles is to forge, build and tweak
the general perception of the president. So
far, President Buhari’s media handlers have
done little in that regard. The lack of a crisp
and coordinated communications strategy
since President Buhari’s taking over the office
has resulted in the shaping of different
perceptions of his presidency to fit various
narratives. With social media accounts of his
spokesmen sometimes silent for days, many,
including international media , are steadily
drumming up the perception that nothing is
going on.

I need an advice on what to do with the money because I might end up spending the money on irrelevant things if I eventually go for youth service with the money.
keeping the money in an account for a year just like that without interest is not advisable, pls I need good advice on how to go about it.

PoliticsEl-rufai Announces Autonomy For Local Councils, Swears-in Sole Administrators by multikolour(op): 10:50am On Jul 07, 2015
The Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, monday announced autonomy for local governments in the state, abolishing the joint state and local government system, which had stunted development at the grassroots.

The governor also said 10 per cent of internally generated revenue (IGR) would be remitted to local government councils in the state.
Speaking while swearing-in sole administrators for the 23 councils in the state yesterday at the Government House, the governor said with this development, council chairmen cannot afford to fail the people.

He warned the sole administrators to desist from residing outside their localities, declaring that anyone who cannot live within the locality should vacate the office.

“You have no excuse to fail. Perform and bring real development to our state at the local government level. I am using this occasion to fulfill our campaign promise. During the campaigns, we said we will not hold local government funds if elected.

“Therefore, I am happy to inform you that the government under our watch has formally abolished joint account in Kaduna State, there will be no more holding local government funds hostage under the pretence of joint account.

“I also wish to inform you that the government will do its best to be remitting 10 per cent of the state’s IGR to the local government areas. Like I said, we must deliver, we can’t let our people down.

“In addition, you are to swing into action and commence carrying out meaningful projects in all the wards in your council. Already there is a blueprint of proposed development which you will see and work with as a guide to taking development to our communities,” the governor said.

He further charged the council sole administrators to take the issue of security very seriously by partnering with traditional and religious leaders and the entire stakeholders.

“Don’t be arrogant to your people, you are assigned to serve them and nothing more than that. We will not hesitate to call you to order if you think you will play with our people and the trust vested in you,” he warned.

He directed the council officials to submit within two weeks a list of government assets such as schools and hospitals that have been encroached into by trespassers.

“We did not appoint you because of your religion, ethnicity or where you come from. You have been appointed to work and bring positive change,” El-Rufai declared.

Good politics? I know some southerners would applaud your West-Minster posturing. But you've just broken one law of power. Never change too much too soon. And sooner or later you may realize the need to spend twice as much as you are saving from this to keep you in power!

Religion is big deal in the North, and tinkering with it is no less important. I just hope you know what you are doing.
things will defiantly change, not always business as usual for the north.
