Newcastle forward Sammy Ameobi has opted to play for Nigeria. The 22-year-old has represented England at under-21 level but will follow his older brother Shola's lead and play for the country of their parents. "It wasn't a difficult decision because I decided to follow my heart and I think it's the right thing to do," Ameobi told news reporter in England. "I saw Shola at the World Cup and for him to play at a major tournament like that is a big motivation." Ameobi's path to the Super Eagles Sammy Ameobi has played twice for Nigeria Under-20s and five times for England Under-21s Kalu and Ikechukwu Uche were the last brothers to play for the west African country, and the younger Ameobi hopes he and his sibling - who was released by Newcastle this summer can play in the same national side. "It would be nice, but I need to work extremely hard at club level to get the attention of the Nigerian coaches," he said. "The country has a lot of talent. I just want to do well and hopefully get a chance with the Super Eagles." Sammy Ameobi made his debut for Newcastle in May 2011, but was loaned to Middlesbrough for the second half of the 2012-13 season. He was back at St James' Park last term but made only 12 appearances and acknowledges he is about to begin an "important" campaign. "Performing well on a regular basis with your club is the only way to prove yourself," he said. "When you give everything and do well then you'll fancy your chance to get a call up to the Nigeria squad." source www.musbolaj..com/2014/08/newcastle-forward-sammy-ameobi-has.html?m=1

Assistant Health Minister for Preventive Services, Tolbert Nyenswah, has disputed media reports that the nut Garcinia Kola, called bitter kola locally, is a cure for Ebola. He said to date no vaccine or cure has been found for Ebola. A local daily reported Tuesday that the nut had stopped the Ebola virus in test tubes in initial laboratory experiments, experts, including a Nigerian pharmacologist, revealed. Assistant Minister Nyenswah made the bitter kola-Ebola cure clarification at the regular Thursday Ministry of Information press briefing held at the Ministry in Monrovia. Meanwhile, Minister Nyenswah is calling on the public to report anyone or group of people administering vaccines supposedly for the prevention of Ebola or any form of drug or tablets, herbs or injection in the communities to the nearest police station. He said the Health Ministry is also calling on people not to listen to any information from unknown individuals or groups, except that provided by the Ministry of Health and partners. According to Mr. Nyensuah, anyone caught administering fake vaccine or tablets and even spreading wrong information on the Ebola disease would face prosecution. In a related development, the Assistant Health Minister has disclosed that 11persons have survived the deadly Ebola virus in Liberia. He also announced that four additional counties have been re-categorized as response counties, bringing the total number of counties affected by the Ebola virus in Liberia to seven. The counties are Montserrado, Margibi, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, Bong, Lofa, and Nimba. Assistant Minister Nyenswah said as at July 16, 179 Ebola cases have been reported with 67 confirmed, source www.musbolaj..com/2014/08/does-bitter-kola-cure-ebola.html?m=1 |

Nigeria born sprinter Blessing Okagbare has claim a gold medal in this evening’s 100m final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, archiving a new Games record with her time of 10.85 seconds. Okagbare’s fast start to the race was a key factor in her winning the race, managing to hold off a late surge by Jamaica’s Veronica Campbell- Brown to claim Team Nigeria’s second gold medal at the games. After the race, the 25-year old stated ”I am so happy and excited right now. A new season’s best and win. I stayed patient always like my coach said I should and after 70 metres it just felt easy.” Okagbare is now favourite to win the 200m race coming up later, while she will also compete in the long jump event. source www.musbolaj..com/2014/07/blessing-okagbare-claim-and-set-new.html?m=1 |

Second US Citizen Infected With Ebola In Liberia, Which Shuts Down Borders To Slow Epidemic It was a few short hours ago when report broke out as part of the escalating Ebola epidemic in West Africa a US doctor, Kent Brantly had himself associated to the deadly virus. Moments ago we found out that a second US doctor from the same aid organization in Liberia, Nancy Writebol, has been infected with Ebola. Two U.S. citizens are now listed to be infected with the deadly and incurable Ebola virus in West Africa. The first American reported to have contracted the disease is a doctor working with Ebola patients in Liberia, who tested positive for the deadly virus, North Carolina-based Samaritan's Purse issued said in a news release on Saturday. The second employed doctor tested positive for Ebola is a woman employed by an aid organization in Liberia who is a married mother of two. In a statement on Sunday, Samaritan's Purse said: " Nancy Writebol is employed by SIM in Liberia and was helping the joint Samaritan's Purse/SIM team that is treating Ebola patients at the Case Management Center in Monrovia ." Writebol's age and hometown have not been released at this time. What is most disturbing is that the two physicians have contracted the lethal disease despite apparently taking much needed precations to avoid infection as the following photos below demonstrate. Dr. Kent Brantly assists two ELWA Hospital staff in transporting an Ebola patient from the triage unit to the isolation unit in the rain on Tuesday July 22, 2014, in Liberia.
