The United Nations envoy tasked with advocating for children caught up in armed conflict today voiced her horror at last week's stoning to death of a 13-year-old Somali girl who was a victim of rape.

Radhika Coomaraswamy, the Secretary-General's Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, issued a statement condemning the killing and calling for better protection for children in Somalia, which remains beset by widespread fighting.

"The incident highlights the extreme nature of violence against children and women in Somalia, which haThe incident highlights the extreme nature of violence against children and women in Somalias been heightened by the increasing lawlessness," she said.

Aisha Duhulow was stoned to death in a stadium full of spectators in the southern port city of Kismayo on 27 October after authorities found her guilty of adultery.

But reports indicate that she had been raped by three men while walking to visit her grandmother in the capital Mogadishu. After the attack, Aisha asked for protection from prosecutors, who in turn accused her of adultery and sentenced her to death.

According to media reports, Aisha pleaded for her life before she was forced into a hole, buried up to her neck and then pelted with stones by some 50 men until she died in front of more than 1,000 people.

In her statement Ms. Coomaraswamy also raised concerns about the widespread recruitment and use of children as soldiers by all parties to the conflict in Somalia, which has not had a functioning national government since 1991. Children are being killed or maimed on a daily basis as a result of military operations, she added.

"It is the duty of the international community and the local authorities to stop these violations and to ensure better protection for children. No efforts should be spared."

Thanks Desse. I would have loved a shop in Ikeja but that is a bit too high. Plus I donot want a shop inside a market but on an accessible road due to the nature of the business.

I will really love that Ikorodu rd cos majority of people go thru it either going to Eko Idumota or going to Ojota even Ibadan.

Please let me know if there are other options. Thanks all.

NB: My peace, If you find a biger shop, let me know maybe we can share it.

Nairalanders, Please help with selection of artiste for our shows. The shows are for children, even though some parents and guardians will come with their children.

I need an artiste that suit this audience, I am thinking about sound sultan,9ice, banky (because of the Ebute meta song), I know kids love d'bang but I don't really love his lyrics. I am leaning more on sound sultan because i love most of his songs and they are not full of mature lyrics but I want you all to suggest the best artiste for this cause.

Thanks for your contributions.

Don't hesistate to contact me for further questions.

I am using this medium to invite you all to a series of christmas parties am planning and will be hosting for the less privilege kids in Nigeria. It hurts me every christmas remembering majority of our kids do not have the privilege of experiencing the fun of christmas. This made me to decide and start working on ways to put smiles on these special kids faces. And one of the ways, is hosting annual christmas shows for these kids to come and celebrate, mingle with peers and learn.

Because of the distance and time consumption, this year's shows will take place in one local govt area in lagos, ijebu and abeokuta. I am inviting you all.

I am open to suggestions, comments as I am also hoping to involve you nairalanders that are so passionate about the less privileges and interested in this project.
NB: I am not soliciting for money please and if you want to give out money, I will rather let you know what we need and you can proceed to buy it(them). I am not doing this for money generation as these shows are free to all.

Thanks for reading this post. God bless

Thanks all. Your input means alot to me. Ihavetakenthem to hodpital before and not just a regular hospital, it was a childrens hospital. After waiting for hours, they told me to keep giving them fluid that they were alright.

And for me technically,
I prefer my 9ja natural remedies to these oyinbo medication with one side effect or the other. I made them boiled ginger plus honey and cinnamon stick. They are getting better except for their running nose and nightly high temperature which subdues after giving them shower.

I have scheduled them to see their doctor but thats in a month and half. Once again thanks all. I will keep your recipes.

NB: As per the palm oil, I don't have access to original here except from the fake onces imported from God knows where. I miss NAIJA
Health / Re: Two Kids Are Sick: I Need Herbal Recipes by mycutiepie(f): 11:55pm On Jan 17, 2008
Hey guys,
I know what am seeing and saying. its not that extreme and I am familiar with oyinbo medicine but am not just comfortable with them. With the FDA recalls going on here and there. Even when I take them to the hospital, the doctors tell me to give them enough fluid and they will be better. So don't just jump into conclusions. Thanks all.
