This is a kind gesture, though we need to stop flaunting disabilities as a precursor to a statement. Why refer to him as a “blind fan“? Simply referring to him as “one of my fans” would have sufficed. |

Hey guys, going straight to the point, I’ve been a Nairaland user for years now. Mainly, I come, catch up with posts, drop few comments (depending on my time availability at the moment), and leave. That has been my routine for years. But then I see and hear different things which I’m oblivious to. Here are a few things I don’t know how to do, but would like to learn. 1. I don’t know how to change my moniker 2. Is there a way to know if someone mentions my moniker or quotes my post, without me having to scroll through pages of comments first? 3. I’ve never been banned, but I hear people talking about others who violated one or some of the Nairaland rules. I’d please like to know what those rules are, or at least point me to where I can find them. 4. How do I maintain a thread? 5. I made a post a while back and tried deleting it, but couldn’t. Are posts permanent? 6. I always see lalasticlala’s name on every snake post, but don’t know the origin behind it. 7. I hear some slangs like afonja, BMC, manabbqgrills (or something like that), but don’t know what they mean It was only recently I learned what FTC means I’m almost certain I’m not the only one in this shoe. There are some persons in a similar situation (maybe even having more questions or needs more clarity than I do), but are too shy to speak up.Please mods (lalasticlala, mynd44, seun), move to the front page so that people could help answer some (or all) of these. At least, I know the names of 3 mods (hopefully I’m correct) ![]() |

What most illiterates (and ‘educated illiterates’ too) don’t know is that the covid-19 vaccine only REDUCES the chance of contracting the virus, but it DOES NOT STOP you from contracting it. Another use of the vaccine is that it PREVENTS severe illness (that requires hospitalization), and death! Play woth covid-19 at your own risk! |

No be all abroad be abroad. Look before you leave. |
These stats ain’t accurate one bit! The number of cases are grossly under-reported. Only very people actually go for tests when they have some covid symptoms. A large percentage would just call it malaria and start drinking agbo. When there are fewer tests, there are fewer cases to report. And even the few confirmed cases they get, they still under-report them. By the way, FTC, though it’s even for a mumu thread sef ![]() |

So, my dear Nairaland fam, something funny happened while I was preparing for my trip to Nigeria. Since I left Nigeria in 2013, I go back to visit each year, but haven’t visited since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So in other words, I haven’t travelled with my Canadian passport since I became a Canadian. I told myself I have to travel this year. In preparation for my trip, with the excitement of disvirgining my new passport, I thought it wise to go through the passport and familiarize myself with it, as I never gave it a critical look since I got it. That was when several lightbulb moments occurred. I realized a lot of things I wasn’t expecting to see on my Canadian passport, due to the nonsense and stigma I’ve been living with for years, travelling with my Nigerian passport. First, the first page of the Nigerian passport starts with:”These are to request and require in the name of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria….”, while the first page of the Canadian passport starts with:” The minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada requests, in the name of Her Majesty the Queen…” There were no punctuation in the Nigerian passport. It even says “allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance”, while the Canadian one says “allow the bearer to pass freely, without delay or hindrance.” I’m not a legal practitioner and I’m not sure about the difference between “without let” and “without delay”, but I’d rather have a passport that says “without delay” ![]() Secondly, while the last page of the Nigerian passport gives you a CAUTION message, the last page of the Canadian passport gives you vital information such as how to get free travel advice and warnings for every country in the world before you visit, where to sign up to enable the Canadian authorities to contact you in case of an emergency, and how to reach the Canadian government should you be stranded or require immediate assistance while oversees. Travelling with a blue passport accords you an indescribable respect at the airport or wherever. Previously whenever I’m travelling with my stup1d green passport, it’s either they subject me to a secondary search and call it a random search, or they delay you just by virtue of the fact that you’ve got a green passport, or they spend 15mins looking at the passport, as if they are trying to uncover a fraud on the passport. The stigma was so bad that I even had to go buy a Canadian passport cover for my Nigerian passport, just to help prevent the numerous cases where people tactfully shift away from me at the airport the moment they spot my green passport. My prayer is for all the industrious Nigerian youths to legitimately find a way out of that geographic location called Nigeria. Let’s leave the country alone for those old politicians who I have met in power since I was born, yet till date, they keep saying the youths are the leaders of tomorrow!

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has claimed that they are unaware of a raid carried out at an Abeokuta hotel, Conference Hotel. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has claimed that they are unaware of a raid carried out at an Abeokuta hotel, Conference Hotel, which belongs to a former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel. The hotel authorities had claimed that personnel of the agency raided the hotel in search of alleged internet fraudsters, popularly known as “Yahoo boys”. However, when our Correspondent contacted the Public Relations Officers of both Ibadan and Lagos offices of the EFCC, they denied knowledge of the alleged invasion. The PRO of the EFCC, Ibadan office, Tokunbo Odebiyi, simply said, “I have no information about the operation. I’m not aware of any invasion of any hotel in Abeokuta.” Also, his counterpart in Lagos, Ayo Oyewole, said he was not aware of the raid. Meanwhile, contrary to the statements of the anti-graft agency spokespersons, the media office of Gbenga Daniel said the anti-graft agency raided the hotel around 2:00 am on Sunday. The statement read partly, “Some unknown gunmen believed to be acting at the behest of one of the anti-graft agencies stormed the premises of the hotel facility in Abeokuta in search of an unknown ‘yahoo boy’. Unnecessary shots were fired and our innocent guests were scared. “Thankfully, our various security agencies were able to restore law and order and no life was lost. We thank all our customers for their patience and understanding and reassure all and the general public of their safety at all times in all our facilities.” A lodger told our correspondent that an award party was held in the hotel on Saturday night, which attracted a lot of people to the hotel. It was further gathered that the operatives, who allegedly broke into the guests’ room during the raid, confiscated mobile phones, laptops and exotic cars reportedly belonging to the suspected fraudsters. More so, users of the microblogging site, Twitter, have aired their opinion on the issue. A Twitter user with the handle, “@Letter_to_Jack, said, “Until recently, Gbenga Daniel’s Conference Hotel andex-President Obasanjo’s OOPL were believed to the two remain fortress in Abeokuta for people. “Park Inn by Radisson and all other high-end hotels have been raided recently. Abeokuta’s hospitality sector will tank.” SOURCE: https://www.nigerianeye.com/2021/11/effc-claims-ignorance-over-raid-on.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=lagos_endsars_judicial_panel_illegal_useless_waste_of_time_keyamo&utm_term=2021-11-29&m=1 |

We all had that one subject/teacher in school that we didn’t like. We didn’t like the subject because of the teacher, we didn’t like that teacher because of how mean he is. I’ll get started: mine is IntroTech, and really, this is how much canes my IntroTech teacher moved around with. The day you don’t do his assignment/home work, just stay at home and work for that day ![]()
