Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi has recalled that he had once beaten Argentina captain, Lionel Messi at club level and that he hopes to beat him again when Nigeria throws tackles with the La Albiceleste in their all important last group game on Tuesday.

The match will be played at the Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg by 7pm (Nigeria)

Mikel and Messi first crossed each other’s path in the final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in the Netherlands in 2005 with the Barcelona superstar lifting the trophy and also best player of the tournament.

Since then, they have met several times at the international and club levels with the Argentine captain having the upper hand most of the time.

Mikel who now plays in China and Messi who has spent his carrier at Barcelona will rekindle their rivalry today when Nigeria and Argentina battle for a spot in the knock out stages.

The Super Eagles sit in second position in the group with three points, while Argentina occupy last position with just one point.

“I’m looking forward to it. It’s always a pleasure playing against Messi. I have played against him so many times, be it national team, be it at club level,” Mikel stated during a short video interview posted on ESPN.

“Once in Chelsea, I managed to come out on top against him. In this tournament, I hope to do that. I hope the team will come out top against him.”

Politics / Re: I Was Rigged Out Three Times – Buhari by mykkel(m): 11:55am On Jun 08, 2018
fabinfos:
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday stated that he was robbed of the presidency three times after defeating his opponents.

He said this on Thursday when he hosted Nigerian artistes and Youth organisations to breaking of fast at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He, however, observed that the Nigerian constitution has provided him the opportunity to work diligently towards uplifting the quality of life of all Nigerians irrespective of their socio-political backgrounds.

Buhari pledged that his administration would continue to implement policies and programmes aimed at creating an enabling environment for the youth to progress in different human endeavours.

“We are trying very hard to normalize situation in the country for you. I’m very pleased with the position of our constitution.

“No matter how good you are, you don’t have more than two terms and no matter how bad you are you can hardly last more than the first term. So, this generosity of the constitution I respect very much.

“It gives me the opportunity to round up having been a governor, minister, head of state in uniform and then going to the Supreme Court three times to complain about my being rigged out”, he said.

President Buhari also pledged that his administration would continue to encourage the youth to pursue their careers in meaningful disciplines to enable them become not only self-sustaining but also employers of labour in the society.

“I will continue to dedicate my time to make sure that Nigerians are enlightened on the importance of voter education because this is vital for good governance,” he added.

Education / Re: Hafsat Jalila Adamu Graduates With First Class From American University, Nigeria by mykkel(m): 8:01am On Jun 08, 2018
HigherEd:
Daughter of minister of education, Hafsat Jalila Adamu, has reportedly graduated with a first class degree in English Language from American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola.

Miss Adamu was admitted to AUN in 2014, a year before her father became minister of education.

The number of students who graduated from the institution stands at 158, out of which 136 had first degrees, while 22 bagged post graduate degrees.

An Accounting student, Benedict Egwuchukwu emerged as the best graduating student with a cumulative grade point average of 3.98.

While addressing the graduands, AUN’s president, Dr Dawn Dekle said that her desire is to lay the foundation for a sustainable university.

Dekle also urged staff and students to share in the sustainability vision which requires synergy and sacrifices, adding that attaining such feat was the best way to complement the efforts made by AUN’s founder, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

“I believe our best way to show gratitude for this gift is to make AUN sustainable for generations of students to come. Our gift back to our founder will be a sustainable AUN.

“Therefore, from this day forward, the day of my inauguration, I wish to be known as the sustainability president. I understand the challenges involved, as sustainability will require approaches and ideas that are not in place today. It will require all of us to have an entrepreneurial and growth mindset,” Dekle said.

Dr Dekle, who was inaugurated as AUN’s fourth substantive president since its inception, congratulated the graduating students for joining the university’s alumni, and called on them to be good ambassadors of the university.

Politics / Re: Buruji Kashamu Hugs Gbenga Daniels After Their Peace Meeting In Abuja by mykkel(m): 9:55am On Jun 06, 2018
dainformant:
Three chieftains and national leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), namely ex-Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (popularly known as OGD); Senator Buruji Kashamu and Senator Ben Bruce met yesterday in Abuja with a view to resolving the issues that have rocked the Ogun State chapter of the party over the years.

At a closed door meeting, which lasted for over three hours, the two major figures in the face-off, OGD and Kashamu, discussed all the issues and resolved them.

According to reports, they agreed to work together in the interest of the party and the good people of Ogun State.

It was resolved that given OGD's pedigree as the only former Governor produced by the PDP in Ogun State as well as a two-term Governor of the state, he would lead the party in the state to victory.

Informed sources say that immediately the news of the meeting filtered to the authentic leadership of the State chapter of the party, Engr. Adebayo Dayo, it hailed the move, describing it as "a welcome development that will gladden the heart of all and sundry".
