Celebrities / Re: 'Nigeria's Problem Is Not For God To Solve' - OAP Yaw Says by MythAngel: 8:10am On Jun 30, 2018
Since they are very good in prayers and miracles .. let them pray away lawlessness mad make Nigeria develop from prayers? The way Nigerians reason can cause one depression.. have you seen those in developed country saying let's pray to build a plan and they go to sleep without work? But here in Nigeria somehow we expect a spiritual force to set things right while we command it with prayers ... It will be easier for a Nigerian to turn stone to bread if the devil had tempted them in case of Jesus... Since thats how they think

Nothing has made me so happy here on Nairaland until now... The comments given to Desmond, reveals that there is a gradual change in the mind of Nigerians ..the idea of pray and fast while the miracle will take place is gradually eroding in the minds of the informed Nigerians ... This makes me happy ... What about the uninformed Nigerians, since they the bulk of the masses? How can this change of mind reach them

Don't be like yusuf

Am not in support of any opinion ... Just that we all should understand that being hardworking does't infer to most what you people think... To be able to fight , or carry load, or do a heavy duty job. There is kind of laziness which I believe is more defining of most Nigerian youth, which is MENTAL LAZINESS.. it plagues the populace. Most youths are concerned about getting money but don't know it comes from thinking out values, which many don't understand .... Hence get rich scheme as Sportbet and wonderbanks could have a firm grip on the youths ...
Foreign Affairs / Re: 5 Facts About Netherlands You May Never Know- Aroms by MythAngel: 7:08pm On Apr 13, 2018
GiantParrot:

I used to think this way in the past. Not anymore. As some people have mentioned, the leaders are a reflection of the people.

There is a stark difference between the Dutch and Nigerians in terms of value systems. The typical Dutch values thrift, honesty, egalitarianism, intelligence and the rule of law. For example, Nigerians have very high tolerance for corruption, and value obscene displays of wealth and materialism. That is why we defend and worship our thieving politicians who steal our collective wealth to purchase costly cars and build huge edifices. On the other hand, the Dutch have zero tolerance for corruption and view materialism as a vice. They have this concept called "Gierig", an expression of thrift. They believe in making prudent use of resources, in getting good value for money. With that attitude, there is no way they can exist on the same plane as us. We're just a bunch of ridiculous people who think we can sow stones and expect to reap apples. As though the laws of nature and the principles of progress will somehow bend to our faith.

I have spent some time in the Netherlands - Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and Den Haag, and I can assure you that those people live in a different world than us. I find it difficult to believe we are the same species. Crime is virtually non-existent. They are even closing prisons due to lack of prisoners. At some point they were asking their neighbours, Belgium, for prisoners in other to keep prison staff employed. Unlike every rat and cockroach who goes into politics in Nigeria and wants to be treated like a King who no one can approach, you can enter the premises of the King of the Netherlands, an actual king. You can enter their parliament building without hassle. Just explain your mission and you'll be fine. Try that as a random person at the Nigerian national assembly and you'll have a painful story to tell. You won't find armed body guards harassing people and patrolling the official residence of the mayor of amsterdam along the gentleman's canal (Herengracht). A truly free country.

As Bill Gates advised the babbling f00ls in government who perpetually appear on the defensive whenever they receive sound advice, we need to spend more on investment in human capital development. A country's human resources are its most important resources. Have a deficient set of human resources and you'll end up with Nigeria - an impoverished country with so much wealth in the form of natural resources.

I hardly post... But you have said the concised words ... You earn this respect for being pragmatic ... In simple truth Nigerians have a problem but they not aware they are their problem.
Yet they are religious without good sense, always praying year in year out... And not realising the futility, infact to be frank. the suffering in Nigeria is just the beginning...expect more if you people don't think straight... You could easily blame the white man over racism yet tribalism in Nigeria is on a new height, how do you expect the white man to like you when you don't like yourself?

You see old men and women on the street , you may wonder that these are wise people... But the truth is foolishness reign with them...

Always complaining but never taking action ...

You are not far from truth if you concluded that the black man is cursed...

It is clear the OP was referring to English translations of the Bible.

It's also clear that King James version is no longer the standard English ... meaning the reason for translation is for one to understand. . But king James can't. Provide that anymore ... Moreover king James version is filled with some inconstancy which newer translations have addressed ... Holding on to KJv is more of a ritual than logical reason. . Even the English have revised the KJV... But Africans don't seem to move on... Many times always behind except in crimes

You are right ! All other one are fake and most of their verses can never come from God.

Meaning those that are not English speaking people are helpless.. and may not have the authenticity that KJV offers ...? Surely a shallow reasoning ... It a pity that you think within the confines of your country-state-LGA-community-Area... Think outside the box ... And see that you can only have a preferred translation but not the best ... As this is a personal thing ... For those that speak Spanish would they have to learn English to really have the authenticity of the Bible ...

It's pity that majority here isn't critical in thinking but Naive about life

Christianity is a confuse religion, just version of Bible they are all confuse. May Almighty Allah open ur eye to see the truth.

It's sad that even Nairaland is religiously polarised ... You as a Muslim can freely post in Christain section but the other way round not permitted ... What a biased site.. it shows how that the owner of the site and his cronies are afraid of religious criticism... You hide under a big umbrella of illusionary faith.. if your faith can't be questioned then it shows your faith don't have answers to it's practises and doctrines .. in other words you afraid to hear the truth .... Even Jesus was questioned and he proved true in all stance. .

And for those claiming King James ... Have you ever asked this question ... What if you were born in a language other than English... Would you still have chosen KJV... Surely shallow mindset and indoctrination is what affecting most of you people ...

Family / Re: Do You Think Intertribal Marriage Should Be Encouraged? by MythAngel: 8:31pm On Aug 24, 2017
OrdercityWeb:
I was having a discussion with a few friends yesterday. I told them emotions aside, intertribal marriages shouldn't be ENCOURAGED.
..
Why? To preserve our culture, our identity is in our culture. I know alot of products of intertribal marriages that are torn between the question of identity.
I once read where a lady from an intertribal marriage said her mom insisted she married her own tribe as against her dad's.
In many intertribal homes there is this cultural neutrality, and many times there's a power play on the kids among the two in-laws.
Even the bible doesn't encourage intertribal marriage, remeber the instructions Abraham gave to his servant and the fact that Jesus was sent to the jews ONLY initially.
Have you wondered why the Chinese and Koreans do not marry outside their race, why do you think there is that cultural cohesion and reverence with them anywhere they go.
...
My take is INTERTRIBAL MARRIAGES SHOULDN'T BE ENCOURAGED.
What's your take? Please be factual and intelligent DO NOT APPEAL TO EMOTIONS.

**modified**
Alot of people are saying "culture evolves". Yes cultures evolve. But fundamentals like identity remains same.
Culture evolves. Identity doesn't. The fact that the Yorubas believe they descended from Oduduwa is UNIQUE TO THEM ALONE AND CAN NEVER EVER EVOLVE.
THE MOMENT IT DOES WE HAVE LOST WHO WE ARE

Let me start by saying, some of your claims here or so called facts are misrepresentation of the actual facts. ...

Firstly, the case of Abraham was in the case of preservation of a particular line based on a promise made to him in particular, remember that he had to leave even his place of birth which was Ur, a Chaldean territory.. This was from indication that there the culture couldn't have promoted Abrahams pure worship to God, also this may pollute his Generation, but he ordered for his son to take from his immediate family and not from his tribe in Chaldean. Take note that Ismael a son of Abraham little was concerned about where he should marry from.

Again concerning tribes and identity ... You should know that all that you see is a mirage of divergence ... The so called culture are man made .. Only that they have stayed long enough not to make the coming generation understood that they weren't there at first .... The divergence is that right from inception their was only one culture but as people separate they form new ideas that latter made them different from people that have elevated other ideas. With time the difference becomes a culture .. But as it stands the world is converging and you can't stop it .. Its for the better of the human family...

What was Adams and eve culture?

Tge only culture i recorgnise is being a human... For that is our identity and not the ideas some with limited idea of the world inculcated .

Seriously, I can't agree any more, his observations are right, though I wonder why I share same skin and features with blacks... It so pains me because I share in their disgrace, stupidity, and all the ills. Not because I have the same mentality as the majority of blacks, but because humans tend to group people of same features alike. With little minding to the inner substance. This pains me a lot. Wearing the black skin, because people who wear it, majority act more stupid and crude than even low animals.... My angar is never to the white. Here we shout RACISM. yet we kill ourselves more over tribalism. How stupid can one be....?... Seriously, I must say that it has been tormenting to my soul, living in Nigeria. Things you see make you wonder if we really humans.

If you dislike my way of saying this, then you simply don't understand the issue here.

Check other societies they are bringing down barriers down to family level, while over here the stake of division is taking a new height .

From what I see here, the government only reflects the attitudes of the masses. Nigerians generally don't appreciate talents... Most of you that derogated this feat don't even know what a transistor or resistor is nor can you make any meaningful thing from the so called knowledge you acquired from versity or whatever you may claim to go and yet you brought down a man who is also in need of survival and wants of life , but still used his money, resources and knowledge to do this ... Does anyone see the real blockage here It is not the filts that stopped water from flowing , but the block-headed Nigerians that have refuse to change the culture of dumping dirt indiscriminately. Both the claimed educated and the uneducated are of no difference in such manner. Until we start to behave decently these things will continue to plague the society. TunezMediaBlog:
Popular Comic Nollywood actor Babatunde Omidina has lent his voice to the ongoing Badoo tragedy in Ikorodu Lagos.

In this chat with Encomium, the actor said the activities of the ritualists have turned Ikorodu into a hot spot where vigilante groups embarrass visitors with barrage of questions especially at night.

“I was born and bred in Lagos but I have been living in Ikorodu for over ten years. Since I have been here, nothing like this has happened before. Personally I am very afraid of these boys and my prayer is that I should never encounter them in my life.

With all that I have heard about their activities, I am scared of them. Their activities have hindered my movement because it is no longer advisable to move around at night.

In fact you would be shocked at the number of vigilante groups you would meet on the way. Ikorodu is now hot and a lot of people do not want to come here.

It is so bad that lots of landlords have vacated their homes for fear of these boys. They ran for their lives.

“What these boys are doing is very terrible and they are embarrassing a lot of people. If anyone wants to come to Ikorodu at night, they would meet so many security men who would begin to question them.

This kind of embarrassment is getting too much but I am sure that God would save us,” Baba Suwe said.

What I have to say is this, the situation in the society as we know it today is as a result of a failed system which we all have been turning a blind eye on. We never cared about how our children will turn out to become, greed, material riches and seeking prominence seem to be the main focus of our society ... This group terrorizing us is a by-product. Trust me the worse is yet to come . by the time you all recognize the inherentmental disease in the society, it will only be a self destruct mission ..lol
