If current market realities should determine Minimum Wage, then anything less than ₦120k would be unrealistic.

Anything below $100 at a parallel market rate is unrealistic in today's Nigeria.

What we actually need isn’t more Naira, it’s purchasing power of the Naira to be stronger than we have now.

50 Naira is almost useless. A satchet of pure water is 30 Naira or so. A bottle of water is 200 Naira.

Even if the minimum wage is increased to 1M Naira it still won’t be enough.

Government must do something about reducing inflation.

You don't know what you are saying? You want the government to defend the Naira again and you get things at fairly cheap price and a few months later, things will get worse... Minimum wage needs to be increased to atleast 160k/month if you don't know.

Politics / Re: Maintain Minimum Wage At N30,000.00 But Give Workers 3 Things??? by na2016: 10:50am On May 16
KnowAll:
1. Free transport to work

2. Subsidised homes. Like the ones built by shagari in the 80’s . Little one two & 3 bedroom houses. They would pay N5000.00 per month

3. Build large cooperative stores that would sell groceries at rock bottom price. That means government would buy fruit and vegetables from farmers and subsidies them. Including meat rice& fish.

It can be done. There would be know reasons to increase wages which would eventually lead to a runaway inflation. The 650,000 labour is asking for would lead to runaway inflation just like in Zimbabwe.

All you wrote here can't bring success to Nigeria. Exchange rate needs to be brought down by any possible means and wages increased evenif the increase so big.

IPP or solar farm?

But why can't Nigeria manufacture things like solar panels? Nigerian education is a total mess. All talk, nothing to show for it.

Honestly, no! During my curious age, I wanted producing solar panels. After using Fx series of casio calculator, I removed the solar panel to check the secret. I made real research.....

That was when I learnt of stuff like photosensitive materials, electron jump, silicon cell etc.

At such a tender age, I only knew how to improvise to set up all those components. I was haunted by my dad who never wanted to see me "play" but study, my limited knowledge of where to get those materials, my symbian phone which will always reference everything to US and UK.

After years of unsuccessful attempts, I landed in the university and the haunting continued, even worst.

It was an abandoned dream and abandoned hope.
Nevertheless, I was able to produce speakers from scratch. Achieved just by wounding coils around magnetic field and using silver film to reflect the sound.

I failed in:
Solar panels
Generating electricity with motors without battery
Electronic bell
Transistor radio.

In summary, Nigerian education is trash, it buries your aspirations. I later picked Civil Engineering in the University and it's still trash. I can only attribute 95% of the real world knowledge I have now to my Catholic secondary school.

If civil engineering is trash to you then you ain't good at all

Travel / Re: Finally Migrated To Australia At Age 48. This Is My Story So Far by na2016: 11:16am On Apr 01
Usefulsense:
Last year, I sought the opinion of Nairalanders concerning my plan to move to Australia.
My major worry was my age (48) and also considering that my net salary in Nigeria was a little over a million Naira per month as the financial controller of a manufacturing company in Onitsha.

Below is the link to the thread I opened to seek peoples advice and I recommend that you go through the thread to fully appreciate
the story that follows.

. I promised to tell my story after 3 months of my stay in Australia.

I finally left Nigeria on December 7th, 2023 and arrived the country on December 9th with my children. Today, I am exactly 3 months, 2 weeks and 6 days old in Sydney, australia.

This is not a hearsay, it is not an eye witness account, it is my story.

This is intended to guide people who maybe planning to travel outside Nigeria. Should you migrate at an age over 45 or not?

Those who told me not to go are right and those who told me to travel are also right.

Given another opportunity, will I take the decision to move out of Nigeria at 48? Have I made a mistake? How am I surviving?

You will find out in this thread.

To be continued shortly .........

Congratulations. I am really interested in causes of divorce over there and I would be happy to read more from you on that.

Sir John, i quite agree with you . . .

Note the case of Tebogo in the word file from your last post. For a woman who has not walked since she was a child, she surprisingly seems to possess strong leg muscles. Disuse of muscles usually shld cause muscle wasting . . .

Although I fine sirjohn's submission interesting I differ with you as the CE write up didn't mention she couldn't walk from childhood.

What we need is not increasing minimum wage but reducing cost of production and improving farmers output as well as curbing security challenges.
Even if states are able to pay minimum wage of N200,000, it is same as saying inflation can go ahead and destroy the economy.

A work in progress needs no distractions.

Anyways, no one cares about workers in the private sector. No salary increase, no pension, no gratuities, no bonu package. All from hand to mount work.

You don't know what you are saying. The minimum wage needs to be increased and the Federal government needs to be pressured to do things that will reduce inflation/exchange rate. Also, the minimum wages can now be based on states for state workers and private sectors in such states while we also have a national minimum wage for FG worker
