Thissystem: This is not good. The government needs to look into this as a matter of urgency, especially now that Naira has lost much value. Lecturers/professors deserve a very good pay They are not paid ooo. How can you pay a professor £200 a month in Nigeria as salary. And you expect young people to stay in those role? for what na? |

Please save us the story of government should cut their excess , even if they do, it's not even up to 3% of the current budget You are not making any sense. Look at it this way that the poor masses in Nigeria are being taxed highly yet that monies generated from the tax, will still be looted by the presidency and governors, so in the end what will be the use of the tax? |

RealityOfReason: Actually, he made sense and you said sh!t instead. What is the competitive dollar price of Petro in West Africa? Dangote's price in naira is in reference to the index dollar price. Hence, regardless of how useless naira is, you cannot smuggle because by the time you convert to the neighbouring country's currency, it will still be their own reference to the same index dollar price. The only exception is if Dangote is referencing an index dollar price (a global mkt price) that is cheaper than the dollar price being referenced in the neighbouring country.
You need to start thinking optimally You are the one that really needs to get your argument right. I need not talk again. |
Politics › Re: Dangote Refinery: Independent Marketers Adjust Fuel Price To ₦1,200 by na2016: 9:29am On Oct 11, 2024 |
Eniitankorede: I know that government could have made the price cheaper through pegging an exchange rate for sale to local refineries or selling crude cheaper locally. But they wouldn’t do it because they want to stop smuggling of refined petrol to neighbouring countries. There is no way petrol will be smuggled at 1200/litre to neighbouring countries. It is just not profitable. But government must do something quickly before they cause class suicide due to hunger and poverty. They must not also underrate the propensity to cause social unrest and revolution. They must do something quickly to reduce the pain on the people. You just said rubbish. Your country has about the worst currency around its neighbours, so why won't smuggling be even more lucrative now? |

Teymanhenry: We've been scammed for donkey years that creating a local refinery will make the fuel cheap and more available thus ignoring the fact that fuel is sold in accordance with international price. The government should make our currency valuable and reduce over dependence on crude oil exportation. The space to improve our agriculture is limitless, but they won't because the poor man will benefit a lot from such initiative... You contradicted your self. Petrol for local use cannot be priced at international rate. If not petro wouldn't be cheap in other oil producing countries. Export of crude oil isn't also the issue. Yes, I agree our currency needs to be made strong and urgently so. Currently Nigerians will not go into farming except you make it lucrative. |

50 Naira is almost useless. A satchet of pure water is 30 Naira or so. A bottle of water is 200 Naira.
Even if the minimum wage is increased to 1M Naira it still won’t be enough.
Government must do something about reducing inflation. You don't know what you are saying? You want the government to defend the Naira again and you get things at fairly cheap price and a few months later, things will get worse... Minimum wage needs to be increased to atleast 160k/month if you don't know. |

KnowAll: 1. Free transport to work
2. Subsidised homes. Like the ones built by shagari in the 80’s . Little one two & 3 bedroom houses. They would pay N5000.00 per month
3. Build large cooperative stores that would sell groceries at rock bottom price. That means government would buy fruit and vegetables from farmers and subsidies them. Including meat rice& fish.
It can be done. There would be know reasons to increase wages which would eventually lead to a runaway inflation. The 650,000 labour is asking for would lead to runaway inflation just like in Zimbabwe. All you wrote here can't bring success to Nigeria. Exchange rate needs to be brought down by any possible means and wages increased evenif the increase so big. |

kenny714433: IPP or solar farm?
But why can't Nigeria manufacture things like solar panels? Nigerian education is a total mess. All talk, nothing to show for it.
Honestly, no! During my curious age, I wanted producing solar panels. After using Fx series of casio calculator, I removed the solar panel to check the secret. I made real research.....
That was when I learnt of stuff like photosensitive materials, electron jump, silicon cell etc.
At such a tender age, I only knew how to improvise to set up all those components. I was haunted by my dad who never wanted to see me "play" but study, my limited knowledge of where to get those materials, my symbian phone which will always reference everything to US and UK.
After years of unsuccessful attempts, I landed in the university and the haunting continued, even worst.
It was an abandoned dream and abandoned hope. Nevertheless, I was able to produce speakers from scratch. Achieved just by wounding coils around magnetic field and using silver film to reflect the sound.
I failed in: Solar panels Generating electricity with motors without battery Electronic bell Transistor radio.
In summary, Nigerian education is trash, it buries your aspirations. I later picked Civil Engineering in the University and it's still trash. I can only attribute 95% of the real world knowledge I have now to my Catholic secondary school. If civil engineering is trash to you then you ain't good at all |

Usefulsense: Last year, I sought the opinion of Nairalanders concerning my plan to move to Australia. My major worry was my age (48) and also considering that my net salary in Nigeria was a little over a million Naira per month as the financial controller of a manufacturing company in Onitsha.
Below is the link to the thread I opened to seek peoples advice and I recommend that you go through the thread to fully appreciate the story that follows.
. I promised to tell my story after 3 months of my stay in Australia.
I finally left Nigeria on December 7th, 2023 and arrived the country on December 9th with my children. Today, I am exactly 3 months, 2 weeks and 6 days old in Sydney, australia.
This is not a hearsay, it is not an eye witness account, it is my story.
This is intended to guide people who maybe planning to travel outside Nigeria. Should you migrate at an age over 45 or not?
Those who told me not to go are right and those who told me to travel are also right.
Given another opportunity, will I take the decision to move out of Nigeria at 48? Have I made a mistake? How am I surviving?
You will find out in this thread.
To be continued shortly ......... Congratulations. I am really interested in causes of divorce over there and I would be happy to read more from you on that. |
