A Kano High Court on Wednesday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Umar Yakubu, to death by hanging for stabbing his friend, Ibrahim Adamu, 22, to death during an argument over N20 loan.

Yakubu, who lives at Sabuwar Gandu Quarters in Kano, was convicted on a one-count charge of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code Law.

Delivering judgment, Justice Dije Aboki, held that the Prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubts.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Lamido Soron-Dinki, told the court that on June 13, 2018, at about 11 a.m in Sabiwar Gandu Quarters, Kano, the convict asked the deceased to give him a loan him of N20.

Soron-Dinki said the convict the stabbed the deceased in the chest with scissors during an argument over the N20 loan.

Soron-Dinki presented six witnesses before the court while the convict defended himself.

The Lagos State Government has allayed the fears of motorists over the planned four-month repair works on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, saying that adequate measures have been put in place by the present administration to effectively manage the impending traffic situation.

The Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Transportation, Dr. Taiwo Olufemi Salaam, who disclosed this yesterday at Ikeja, stated that in the project brief made available to the State Government, the repair works will narrow both Lagos and Sagamu bound traffic into two lanes on both carriageways respectively and is planned for two months each for inward and outward traffic from the State.

He emphasised that Lagos is well prepared and ready for the attendant traffic situation through extensive traffic management and control for the repair works which commences on Saturday, 3rd August 2019 and is envisaged to trigger and compound traffic along the corridors.

Salaam affirmed that the State has identified four locations to redirect traffic through, while the personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) as well as Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) will be on ground to provide towing vehicles and other necessary support for evacuating unexpected breakdowns.

The Permanent Secretary explained that the area undergoing repairs will have floodlights and flashing lights placed in strategic places to aid vehicular movement at night, adding that having the whole area lit at night, apart from safety purposes, is also to ensure that Julius Berger completes the repair work within the stipulated period.

He also highlighted other measures already planned by the State government to include the display of advance warning signs; day and night emergency response crew; dummy flagman to direct motorists and slip road provided on both sides of the carriageway.

While assuring motorists of the readiness of the Lagos State government to effectively manage the traffic situation during the period, the Permanent Secretary solicited for the understanding and cooperation of all road users and urged everyone to obey all traffic officials and signs for the entire duration of the reconstruction.

A petrol tanker on Wednesday burst into flames in Gombe State.

Okay.ng learnt that the incident occurred in Tunfure, along Gombe-Bauchi express road.

According to a source at the scene, fire fighters are already assisting in putting the flame off.

No details of casualties has been announced as at the time of filling this report.

Born David Adedeji Adeleke but known professionally as Davido, the Nigerian music star is one of Nigeria’s biggest music exports has broken the record for the Fastest Music Video To Hit 1 million YouTube Views in Nigeria.

The video which was put out on Tuesday, 30th of July amassed 1 million views 11 hours after it was released.

Davido is not strange to high number feats and Assurance is adding to a growing list of record breaking numbers for his views.

The video for his hit singles, IF scored over 60Million views within a year, with FALL following suit with 63Million views in 11months, Fox Meek reports.

Adamu Adamu, a ministerial nominee, says he worked as the speech writer of President Muhammadu Buhari between 1994 and 1999.

He disclosed this while responding to questions from members of the senate during the screening of ministerial nominees, on Wednesday.

Adamu is one of the 13 ministers re-appointed by Buhari.

He said his role as a co-speech writer for Buhari did not affect his job as a minister.

“I started working as speech writer to President Buhari in 1994 up till 1999. I later became his unofficial speech writer till he became president. Now that he is president, I think it is a collective responsibility and it doesn’t affect my job,” he said.

The former minister said the ministry of education under his leadership did everything possible to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the country.

He said the state governments need to do more in advancing the reduction of out-of-school children.

Two suspected child traffickers, were apprehended by operatives of the Ebonyi State Neighbourhood Watch after a stalled abduction mission.

The suspects identified as Sunday Chukwuma from Isu community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, and Nkiruka Okpara, an indigene of the Ahiazu Mbaise community of Imo State, colluded to steal a one-year-old baby from the mother, one Chioma Njoku of Agbebo village.

The plan of stealing the baby while acting like they were helping the single mother, was hatched in Port Harcourt and reportedly facilitated by Chukwuma. The arrest was confirmed by the Chairman of the Onicha Local Government Area of, Ebonyi State, Felix Igboke, who commended the vigilante group.

Kafayat Kareem a.k.a Khafi, one of the BBNaija Season four ‘PepperDem’ housemates said she once contested for a political position in the United Kingdom but lost by a slim margin.

The UK based police officer turned reality TV star made the revelations when she spoke about her brief career in politics years back with her fellow housemates on Wednesday.

According to her, she contested for a local position under the Labour party in London some years ago. She went on to reveal that she lost the position with just 100 votes.
Khafi said some people around her almost 20k community felt she lost because of her surname (Kareem) pointing it to Islamophobia.

She said she felt sad after the results were announced and lost.

For Khafi, she kept her cool until she got home and cried her heart out after the results were announced.

When asked when she got emotional about it, she said it was because she felt she was already doing the job. She revealed how she would go to the authorities to help sort out electricity issues for residents in her community.

Khafi also shared with the other housemates how her family, including her mum and other relatives, traveled from other parts of Europe to London to help her campaign.

According to her, the only reason she was allowed to run for office was that she was a part-time police officer.

After the loss, she went on to become a full-time police officer.

She was praised by the other housemates for her efforts, as they continued to discuss politics and the dynamics that come with it.

FIFA has given Liberian official, Musa Bility, a 10-year ban from football for financial offences, the football governing body said on Wednesday.


Bility, a member of the African Confederation (CAF) executive committee and former president of the Liberian Federation (LFA), was found guilty of misappropriating FIFA's funds, according to the organisation.


An investigation opened after an audit of LFA accounts revealed various payments made and received from entities owned by Bility or his family.


Bility was also fined 500,000 Swiss francs (507,300 dollars).


Earlier this week, Bility had said he would contest FIFA's decision to take oversight of the operational management of CAF from Aug. 1 to Jan. 31, 2020, NAN reports.
