Education › Re: Edo Primary School Teachers Reject Resumption Date by nabegibeg: 5:48am On Aug 26, 2019 |
chidima2019: The crisis rocking the primary school education in Edo State was further deepened on Sunday with the rejection of the new resumption date scheduled for September 2, by the State Universal Basic Education Board.
The state branch of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in a statement by its Assistant General Secretary, Mr Moni Itua, asked its members to disregard the call by SUBEB for resumption on September 2 for the first term of 2019/2020 school calendar.
Itua urged the board not to constitute itself into a “parallel ministry of education” as well as usurping the functions of the ministry by ordering a different resumption for primary school teachers in the state.
“In continuation of your board’s insensitivity to the human dignity and plight of our primary school teachers, the attention of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Edo State Wing, has been drawn to your circular letter — SUBEB/A/7VOL.IIT/90 — of August 20, 2019, wherein you directed teachers to resume for the 2019/2020 first term academic session on September 2, 2019 on one hand and in a twist, further directed the same teachers to also resume a week earlier than the pupils (that is, on the 2nd of September, 2019) to enable them put all arrangements in place for effective take-off of teaching/learning process.
“Arising from the above directives by your board, the state wing executive council of NUT wants to inform you that public primary school heads and their teachers are not the ones to clean up classrooms or cut grasses in their school compounds, but shall only act as supervisors to the pupils in executing such assignments on their resumption, if your board lacks the capacity to provide or employ cleaners and gardeners in the schools.
“Your board’s unending shenanigans and arm-twisting of our teachers which are now dovetailing into full scale tramping on their rights should stop henceforth,” he said.
While directing school heads and their teachers to disregard the board’s circular letter regarding the September 2, 2019 resumption date, Itua urged them to adhere strictly to the union’s directives.
It will be recalled that the teachers had last week issued a three-week strike notice to the state government if it failed to meet its demands, including the rejection of competency test for teachers, release of the approved N60m subvention to schools and the payment of EDO BEST stipends of 2018 and 2019 to teachers, among others.
A circular from the human resources department of SUBEB dated August 20, 2019 had directed teaching and non-teaching staff in public schools across the 18 local government education authorities to resume school on Monday, 2nd of September, 2019.
The circular was signed by Mrs Ehigiamusor I.Lydia, director, human resources and management on behalf of the executive chairman of the board, Mrs Joan Oviawe.
It was copied to all education secretaries and local government education authorities across the 18 local government areas.
https://punchng.com/edo-primary-school-teachers-reject-resumption-date/amp/ Why would a union reject competency test for its members is baffling? Is it that there is something about their members incompetence which they are hiding? I pity these children's future with these crop of primary school teachers |

chisomdoris: Usman Adamu, the Nigerien Man that made headlines after hanging on to the wing of an Azman aircraft that was preparing to take off from Lagos to Port Harcourt, has been deported to his country.
The Nigerien at the center of the July 19 stowaway incident at the restricted area of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), was found to be mentally imbalanced after he was interrogated, profiled and subjected to psychiatric tests by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). Usman was deported by road on Friday August 16, through Lagos.
“Immediately he was arrested at the airport, by security agencies, he was interrogated and asked series of questions, and later taken to the psychiatric hospital for a test. It was at the hospital that it was confirmed that he had a mental challenge.
“But despite that, he was still kept in detention for another round of questioning, which didn’t produce any meaningful result. So, he was handed over to us and as the law required, we returned him to his country" an Immigration source told Sahara Reporters.

Politics › Re: 400 Years After, Descendants Of Slave Merchant Say They’re Proud by nabegibeg: 7:24am On Aug 24, 2019 |
agwom: The descendants of the foremost slave merchant in what is today’s Niger Delta region of Nigeria, King Eyo Honesty, have said that they cannot regret the active and frontline role their precursor played in the 1800s in being a big time slave merchant. They said they are rather proud that he played that role since it was what trended at that time. They said they are proud because the man was generally adjudged to be an honest man in his way of life and in business dealing with the white men whereas others were dubious.
One of the descendants, who is now the clan head of the Eyo Honesty dynasty, a massive community in Creek Town, Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, His Royal Highness Etubom Eyo Ekpenyong Eyo Honesty II, spoke to our correspondent in his palace. He said that the name Honesty was deliberately given to their patriarch because he persisted in truth and in being genuine in his business dealing with the white partners who came from Europe, particularly the Portuguese and British merchants, to buy palm oil, spices and slaves from Calabar. “We are the fourth generation of Eyo Honesty II.
He was a great man in all meaning of the word. At that time, he had 1000 big boats as well as workers and slaves under him. With the boats, he transported his farm produce and slaves. He was a major force. One thing that was conspicuous about him was his truthfulness and kindness, which endeared him to the white men. “He was a trader, a dealer in palm oil. He could speak a little of the English language, which led to his becoming an interpreter between the white business men and the local people. This made him wealthy and famous.
“Many chiefs of local communities would usually keep their slaves in the custody of Eyo Honesty for the white buyers. Available history says he would keep as many as 2000 slaves, most of them brought from distant places such as today’s Akwa Ibom, south-east states, and even Rivers State. Indigenes of Creek Town were never sold. “Nobody should feel pained or be angry with the Eyo Honesty dynasty over the slave trade; perchance their forebears were affected. We should not be misunderstood when we say we are proud. Slave trade was a major business at that time.
We are proud on one hand because apart from the pain of slave trade, he opened up Creek Town, which is the root of the Efik nation and cradle of Black civilisation. “Our great great grandfather brought Christianity into what is today called the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. He first moved for the abolishment of slave trade when he told the white people that he won’t be continuing anymore but rather asked them to bring their God to Calabar.

His words, “Effective immediately, we will be closing our operations in Nigeria. Over the last year, we have faced numerous examples of employees and contractors extorting the company.
“While we kept giving Nigerians a chance to gain skills and employment, we cannot run a company when we can’t trust the people who work for us. Any company interested in conducting business in Nigeria can reach out to us to learn how to avoid being scammed by technical resources.
“It is a kick in our face that we spent so much time trying to give Nigerians the benefit of the doubt to have this happen. Customers who wish to outsource, are well advised to seek an India-owned company for the best results.”
About the company

Citizenshelm: Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, has expressed his joy at studying business management at De Montfort University, Leicester.
The 22-year-old made the disclosure in an interview with the school.
“I was really happy when DMU staff said I could study here,” he said. “I wanted to do this course because growing up in Nigeria we didn’t really have the opportunity to actually go to school.
“It’s a personal thing for me that I want to do, to expand myself and learn new things.”
The business and management course fits around the international footballer’s busy training schedule.
He continued: “Instead of sitting at home after training I come to DMU for my classes.
“The teachers have been amazing, they really try and help me understand. Rather than just reading books they take time to explain things to me and they are also very understanding about my schedule with training.”
Wilfred Ndidi says that he hopes he can use his degree to help young Nigerian when they need help balancing football and education.
Ndidi moved to England when he signed for Leicester from Belgian side K.R.C. Genk in 2017 and has aspired to study ever since.
The midfielder has enjoyed a memorable year, getting married to his long-term girlfriend in May before heading to Egypt in June to play in the Africa Cup of Nations for Nigeria.

makewetalk2: a very insensitive advert. If they had used anything similar to Mohammed would he have accepted that? The fact that Christians are quiet over certain things does not mean that a big company like Nike would not have advisors who would have suggested the religious impact of this advert before picking it. It makes no sense at all. There are many creative people who could have been given an opportunity to craft encompassing ideas for an advert. This is totally insensitive and insulting. People get fired for poking their middle fingers. People get criticized for imitating Hitler. People get killed for even drawing a cartoon of Mohammed. Having Salah walk on water is a bid to reduce the MIRACLE that Jesus performed to an ordinary act that anyone could do on a good day. When kids watch this, how do they even get to believe that Jesus performed a miracle when he walked on water? How do you actually convince people that the act is beyond the capabilities of humans? This is disrespectful. Salah, a Muslim would not agree to do an advert that devalues the works of Mohammed. That is the hypocrisy that we talk about. They need to take this down and tender a public apology. Other perspectives: Salah is not walking on water if he is he won't be walking a straight line. This advert is not in anyway ridicule the miracle of Jesus because He truly did walk on water which never happened in 'their' religion. They can only get jealous Christianity is not fanatism. They can ridicule all they want Jesus will be smiling at them. Jesus can't be ridicule because he is way truth and life others are just gaps in world history nothing more. Let them do all they want as we can only pray for them as Christians because we are nonviolent |

Maniagist: In celebration of 4 year anniversary of perfume brand Sapphire Scents, owned by Wale Jana, some of its brand influencers, family and friends trooped to CommonWealth Of Zion Assembly (COZA) for the company’s thanksgiving.
Brand ambassadors who attended the event include movie star Tonto Dikeh, actor and comedian – Williams Uchemba, ex BBNaija housemate Teddy A, and fiancee Bam Bam and actress Regina Daniels. Ceec who is also an ambassador of the brand, did not attend the event.
Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of COZA was called out by Timi Dakolo’s wife Busola Dakolo, over alleged rape issues, amongst other women who also came out to share their personal experiences in June 2019.
Tonto who is also a humanitarian and someone who strongly preaches against rape, has now identified herself with COZA, thereby not practicing what she preaches. Fatoyinbo even prayed for them during the service.
This definitely did not go down well with some of her fans who have started disassociating themselves from her page already.
Tonto did not use her platform to speak against COZA pastor when the rape allegation was ongoing, probably due to her brand ambassador deal with his member Wale Jana. But in July, the mom of one personally led a protest to Apo High Court in Abuja, against one Idris Ebiloma who raped a 4 year old girl known as Khloe, urging that he be sentenced to life imprisonment. So what could this current event be telling us?
On her wall, she wrote:
Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate with Us.. May the world celebrate you as you have done Us… Thanks to my fellow Ambassadors,we are simply amazing @williamsuchemba @iamteddya @ceec_official… Met two amazing women @bammybestowed and @regina.daniels,God bless you both…And welcome to the family REGINA
