Hi Happygirl, you could contact Riley Care Maternity Clinic. They're located in NW. I had my antenatal visits with them in 2017 and delivered in Foothills Hospital. I didn't have to pay because I came in as a PR.

Alternatively, you could google maternity clinics in SE, call them and inquire on pricing.

Hi Pzhelp,

What exam are you writing from Nigeria?

PLSHELEP:
Good morning or Good evening... depending on your location.

This is for the HR professionals in the house. Can someone please guide me on the pathway to obtaining a CHRP using a SHRM-SCP. I’m about to write the exam from Nigeria, so I would like to know if I’m doing the right thing or if there are other options.

Thanks

Interview was pretty standard. Questions on why you're interested in enrolling in the program, your job search, the career you intend pursing in Canada(I guess this particular question is to ensure they will be able to provide placement/internship for you as some professions such as medicine, teaching are regulated and will not benefit from the program).

What quadrant in Calgary are you in. Am still searching for a day care/home for my baby... Please could you tell how much you pay for the day home

I live in the SW.
In the year we landed I was entitled to the maximum child care subsidy  pay out because we hadn't filed our taxes, so I  paid 437 each for my 2 kids aged 6 and 4 and 377 for my son, the balance was paid by Alberta Works. By the time we filed our taxes the following year, we weren't eligible for subsidy anymore because my family income was above the threshold to receive child care subsidy.

Currently, I pay 500 for my child in Grade 1, 720 for my child in pre-kindergarten and 830 for my son who hasn't started school.

You might find cheaper options, but I chose this particular day home and lady for several reasons. There are both approved and non-approved day homes in every quadrant of the City. The difference is, with the approved day homes, you could be eligible for child care subsidy depending on your family income.

Hello everyone. I
am landing in Calgary around end of May. Currently doing research on schools for kids especially after school care. I know there are proper out of school care centres then there are day homes.
Can anyone advise on the advantages of each? What do working parents do with their kids after school is done for the day?

Hello Nkigirl Girl,

Welcome to Calgary. I work full time with 3 kids, 6, 4 and 2. My 6 year old is in Grade 1 and attends school 8:20am to 3:20pm. My 4 year old is in pre-kindergarten, attends school 8:40am to 11:40am. My 2 year old hasn't started school.

I registered 3 of them at a day home close to my house. In the morning, I drop 3 of them at the dayhome, the lady at the day home does school runs for me and my 2 year old son stays with her. When I close from work, I pick them up and we all come home.

I chose a dayhome because the kids are fewer, less transfer of germs. They feel more at home, they sleep when they return from school and the lady has a personalized relationship with all kids.
I hope this helps

You could reach out to Bowen. I got my first job through them. Randstad, Executrade, TPD. There are lots of them. You could also attend the free resume and cover letter workshop organised by Alberta Works. They are quite brief and concise and might help in drafting your resume. I hope this helps. I wish you all the best!

Are there some other ones you will recommend for the Calgary area, particularly for finance professionals. Roberthalf, Kelly services?

Okay, where and how do i start celebrating and thanking God for His faithfulness and favor. I remember prior to my arrival in Calgary, i was discouraged from pursing a career in HR, as not being a lucrative career with little or no job opportunities in Canada. I was determined to follow my passion and dreams of becoming a world renowned Human Resources Consultant and i wasn't backing out.

On arrival in Calgary, i took advantage of one of the Government bridging programs , Corporate Readiness Training Program, a very good and informative one. I learnt how to write my resume the Canadian style, soft skills, interview preparation, and LinkedIn profile update. Then again, i was discouraged by the program instructor not to venture into HR profession yet as my little over 3months experience in HR will not be impressive to any employer. I contacted various recruitment agencies, and to God be be the glory, i landed my first contract job before the end of the program in a Multinational Investment Bank in Downtown Calgary. I continued my job search while working there. Lo and behold, one very good afternoon, i got a LinkedIn invite from the Director of Human Resources in one of the Oil and Gas servicing company in downtown, i accepted his request and he sends me a message, saying, "Hello, i am in need of HR Administrative Assistant in my company, would you mind sending me your resume for review". I quickly sent him my resume. Few minutes later, i received a call from the HR Manager scheduling an interview. I attended the interview two days later and she requested for two work references and promised to get back to me.

Before then, i heard God tell me, "the job is yours already, He single-handedly picked it for me. I am happy to announce to the whole house, indeed God keeps to His Word, i have received my employment letter and due to start work on Monday. For those till doubting that there is not just a God, but a Faithful one at that, who doesn't follow protocols in bringing to pass His Word, please you may have to reconsider your thoughts.

I am really ecstatic right now and want to encourage us all believers, do all you can, network all you can, prepare the best resume, enroll in the best courses, but do not rely on your efforts, put your trust in God and He will never let His children down.

There are no benefits in having a child in Canada ,apart from the child being a Canadian citizen. The status of the parents remain same irrespective of birthing in Canada.

quote author=Ijebuboy525 post=65296745]
Thanks for your response, I understand here in US, the fastest and easiest way of getting your resident permit is by marrying a citizen, I need an idea of how this works in Canada, does your having a child there gives the parent any right?[/quote]

You can migrate legally to Canada through the permanent residency route(express entry). That's the easiest way.

In addition to bridging programs, the Corporate Readiness Training Program at Bow Valley College is a good one for professional immigrants. It is funded by Alberta Works and provides child care expense depending on one's income. The program runs for a period of 16 weeks. Ten weeks training on full-time employment-focused language instruction and 6 weeks internship in a company that aims to utilize your past education and work experience. I also heard the success rate is very high as most students are retained in the company.

I am not ashamed to depend on God for everything. I know i have a part to play, but i also depend on Him for wisdom in playing my part . Therefore i do best and leave the rest for God. Because from experience, God can do more for me than i can do for myself in a lifetime.

So those who are denied visas or who end up with lengthy bans are not “God’s children”? I’d be very interested in understanding what makes you most qualified to “enjoy this benefit” but not others.

It seems i must have been reading a separate bible. I do not recognize the Jesus that is bandied around here too often.

Im not here to argue..lol.. I just stated my experience and conviction. You dont have to agree with it.

For the records, it's called the grace of God..To answer your question on enjoying the benefits of God, one must be born again. I.e, become God's child through Jesus Christ. It is not available to only me, but to every one who receives Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

I'm going to drop my likle here.
First. Misrepresenters get visa. Yes. The reputation is harmed but we have read transcripts where finally folks who lied in the past got visas.

Second. I have learnt to never say never. I have been here long enough to see stuff I didn't expect. Take for example, the lady doing her masters without any apparent tie. I was surprised she got a visa.

Finally. It is my opinion that God controls everything.
However that is not an excuse to be indolent in research or misrepresent and expect a miracle. I believe that he who comes to equity must do so with clean hands.

@Jw crap happens. I know. So much crap have I seen. But I still just believe. Suicide bombers did their thing. Judas did his thing. Whenever I wonder, I just remember the scripture, " the Lord sits in heaven and doeth as He pleases" .
But let's not forget man has free will. All the way from Eden....the choice to bomb is man's own

I agree with you Lady G. God is Sovereign. He controls the affairs of men here on earth. He has also given us humans free will and will not intercept that freewill unless the actions of one is going to affect His Sovereign will. That been said, there are consequences for our actions. But there is also the mercy of God which God's children enjoy freely. God chooses to show mercy on whoever He wants to and He has the heart of kings in his hands including the Visa officers.

I am a living proof that God's mercies can make one not receive the punishment for wrong doing even if it was a deliberate act..I had an experience at the US embassy years ago and God's mercy showed up on my behalf and i did not receive the punishment of a ban after coming out clean and confessing my wrong in a fresh application.

Those of us who are God's children enjoy this benefit on a daily basis.

Good day everyone. I guess my own landing eexperience in Calgary is similar to that of Vcole. I was 33 weeks pregnant and flew KLM to Calgary. I travelled with my husband and two active toddlers. The immigration / clearing process was stress free and we were cleared in about 30 minutes.

My husband's friend picked us from the airport and drove us to the furnished apartment we booked . I had sent money to a friend to help me pay a deposit for a two bedroom apartment close to downtown.

The next day we went to Harry's Hay building, registered and got our social insurance number, and also registered for health care and got the health care number. The card was mailed to us few days later.
I was able to seek medical care with the health care number and i delivered at foothills hospital few weeks
Later. I enjoyed the top-notch services I received.

The people in Calgary are warm, polite and nice. Gestures such as opening the door for someone, smiling , eye contact are very common. I love the City and I'm happy I made the decision to relocate at this point in time.

There are lots of programs the government put in place to help new immigrants especially women settle. The office administration/ HR program @CIWA for HR professionals, also CCIS offer various programs to assist new immigrants integrate in the Canadian society, YWCA, etc. I had to write the Canadian language benchmark exam to apply for the office administration program. The exam is easy though.

Getting the Alberta's driver's license was a challenge. But thank God i passed the knowledge test in one sitting . I took brush up driving lessons for two days and took the class 5 road test. I failed twice..lol. I finally passed on my third attempt. I was very ecstactic. I read the handbook like Cambridge text book..lol. Driving in Calgary is very different in comparison to driving in Nigeria. I had to unlearn my Nigeria driving skills and re- learn a saner way to drive. Lol.

I'm still searching for a good Christian day home for my 2years old. I hope to find soon though.

Hello Ladies I recently had my baby in Calgary, Canada. Before I applied I read nairaland from pg 1 to 20 plus then. Pls let's read the ALL the pages before asking any question.

At the point of Entry the officer just asked my why am in canada, I said Visiting. He asked who?, what I do for a living & other random questions that has nothing to do with my pregnancy, don't think I spent more than 1 minute him.

My bill for Vaginal Delivery

Admittance fee 838,
Hosp fee daily 3673 (For 24 hrs)
Baby's Hosp bill 1080
Obstetrician fee 500
Paediatrician fee 250
Total CAD$6,341

Other Expenses
Birth Certificate long 60
Birth Certificate short 41
Passport photo 25.2
Canadian Passport 107
Nigerian Travel Doc 100
Post to Nig. Embassy to & Fro 40
My baby's KLM ticket 243.5

Please Note: If they had asked me if I was pregnant at the Point of entry I would have said YES. There is no point lieing when u r obviously pregnant. If u r lucky u can meet a good officer.

This bill does not include seeing doc before & after delivery. I posted my bill to give a guideline, bills varies from the city u give birth, the doctor, type of delivery and also if there is complication.

I want to use this opportunity to thank Hotstepper for her assistance when applying for baby's Nigeria document. I wld HV applied for Nigerian Visa or passport for baby BT she explained to me that its not necessary. I should just apply for Emergency Travel Certificate for baby which is cheaper & faster.

If you need further information I will try my best to answer. Goodluck!

Hello Jinnyz, please do you mind sharing the name of the gynaecologist you used.
