People of Ukelle in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, unleashed their anger on a pastor after accusing him of using residents for rituals. According to Facebook user, James Nicolas, the pastor used three boys for rituals last week. In anger, youths of the community stormed his church which they set ablaze along with his house before beating and parading him . Toyin Lawani has asked Nigerians to boycott South African companies in reaction to the recent xenophobic attacks carried out on Nigerians by South Africans. The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has disclosed that the collaboration between the Commission and the Federal Bureau of Investigations, FBI, has led to the recovery of the sums of $314,000 (Three Hundred and Fourteen Thousand US Dollars) and about N373,000,000 (Three Hundred and Seventy-three Million Naira) from perpetrators of computer-related frauds. Magu said while the sum of $314,000 had been recovered, the sum of N373m had been traced to various commercial banks by the Lagos Zonal office of the Commission. He also disclosed that the recent joint operations coordinated by the Commission had yielded 28 arrests, adding that 14 suspects had been charged and convicted. The EFCC Chair further stated that “nine of the suspects are currently undergoing trial, while five are still under investigations. “Over 80 cases are still under investigation from the EFCC-FBI joint operations.” Speaking during a media briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, Magu, who spoke through Mohammed Rabo, Zonal Head, EFCC, Lagos, added that, the Lagos zone of the Commission, prior to the collaborative efforts with the FBI, had independently launched a sustained operation on perpetrators of various computer-related frauds. He said: “From 2018 to date, the EFCC had launched a sustained operation on perpetrators of various computer-related frauds, which resulted in over 200 arrests, 130 convictions and recovery of a large number of exotic cars and properties suspected to have been acquired through the proceeds of crime. “We had independently launched intensive investigative actions against the infamous Yahoo yahoo boys culminating in various strategic raids and onslaught on their hideouts. “Our efforts in this regard have recorded tremendous successes leading to a number of arrests, prosecutions and convictions.” https://all-gists..com/2019/08/fbi-list-weve-found-n486m-arrested-28-efcc.html

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate termination of appointment of Rev. Tor Ujah, as the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC). A statement by the Director (Information) at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, said the termination was in line with the provision of Section 4, Sub-Section 3 of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission Act. He said that Ujah has been directed to hand over to Mrs. Esther Kwaghe, Director of Administration in the Commission, who is to oversee the Office, pending the appointment of a Substantive Executive Secretary. On monday morning, Benue state University students shut down the campus and barricaded the entrance gates in protest over Comr. Tyonor Smith, President of the National Union of Benue State Student (NUBESS) who was shot in the head by gunmen suspected to be cultists on Sunday night in Makurdi. The student leader was shot at the gate of the Benue State University College of Health Sciences at about 7.34pm while on his way out of the school. He was rushed to the hospital and is responding to treatment. Confirming the report, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Catherine Anene, explained that investigation revealed that Smith was involved in campus politics, adding that the students ’ union election was around the corner and that his opponent(s ) might be responsible for the act.
