Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Monday, charged and detained a Nigerian national and his Cambodian girlfriend for fraud after the couple cheated money out of a victim by using a fake online profile. Major Ly Sopheak, a municipal military police official, identified the two accused as 31-year-old Nwosu Martins and his girlfriend, 35-year-old Kan Kalin. Both lived in a rental house in Chamkar Mon district’s Boeng Tumpon commune.

Maj Sopheak said that they were charged with fraud and face up to three years in prison if convicted. He added that they were arrested by municipal military police last Tuesday in Por Senchey district after they allegedly cheated a 34-year-old woman out of nearly $4,000.

Maj Sopheak said that in February, Mr Martins created a fake profile using the name “Jerry Snow” and a photo of a foreigner before sending a friend request to the victim. Maj Sopheak added that after the victim accepted the request, Mr Martins started talking to her, telling her that he was a US soldier based in Afghanistan and is set to retire in 2020.

13 year old Olive Nmmesoma Anigbogu lost conciousness during school hours last Thursday June 6th after her class teacher flogged her 26 strokes of the cane at Saint De Apostle High School in Onitsha, Anambra state.

According to her mother, Theodora Anigbogu, On the day of the incident, Olive's class teacher, Chidinma Uzoigwe, came to class and asked the students to submit their homework. Olive who wasn't in the school the previous day, informed her that she had no homework to submit as she wasn't in school the previous day.

The teacher went on to flog her 26 strokes of the cane on one hand. This caused Olive to loose conciousness. She fainted and was rushed to the General Hospital Onitsha. Mrs Anigbogu was contacted and she rushed to the hospital where she met her daughter in a sad state.

Olive has been in and out of the hospital since then. Her mother says she has been referred the Borromeo hospital where a brain scan will be carried out on Olive on Tuesday June 17th as Olive now acts strangely. She added that she has been the one paying for the medical tests and drugs given to her daughter since the unfortunate incident.

Flood sweeps away bank security guard in AkwaMoses Obaje Yenusa, a security man working with one of the new generation banks in Akwa Ibom State, was, on Wednesday evening, swept away by the flood along Grace Bill road, Eket, after a downpour.

Moses was said to be returning from where he went to eat, when he slipped and fell inside a flooded gutter. Ibom

A 50-year old woman has been arrested by the police for allegedly buying a new born baby at the rate of N500, 000 at No. 3 Onyekwore street, Awada, Onitsha in Anambra state. The suspect, Juliet Onweagba, was said to have conspired with a 49-year old woman, Edith Ewudo, to purchase the baby from one Ndidi Egeonu.

It was gathered that the baby was bought from the mother shortly after delivery. Confirming the arrest, the polyice spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, said the baby has been recovered. He said, “On the 12/6/2019 at about 7:pm, Police detectives attached to Awada division arrested one Juliet Onweagba ‘f’ aged 50 years of No 3 Onyekwore Street Awada.

“Suspect conspired with one Edith Ewudo aged 49 years of Orsumoghu street Awada and bought a new born baby girl at the sum of N550,000 from one Ndidi Egeonu ‘f’ aged 35 years of Odume Obosi. “The baby was stolen from the mother one Udechukwu Faith ‘f’ aged 23 years of 3-3 Onitsha shortly after delivery on the 2/6/2019. He said the case was being investigated after which suspects would be charged to court.at No. 3 Onyekwore Street, Awada, Onitsha in Anambra state.
