EroticAngelina:I tell you. But they saved their lives. Imagine the number of lives lost here that could have been averted. Respect of elders is good but i do not subscribe to respect that will lead to negative outcomes. |
Two brave and intelligent children who feared that their father was too impaired from the influence of alcohol to be driving cleverly reported him to the police and still successfully tricked him to stop so that the police can arrest him. Mackenzie Behrens, 14, and her 12-year-old brother Ethan were in the car with their father, Jason Behrens, who was taking them on vacation to Colorado. According to KUTV, "we told him we don’t want to go anymore because you are drunk and I don’t want to die, Mackenzie said. Ethan said he could hear the air whooshing past from oncoming cars as his father swerved toward the other lanes. But their father, Behrens laughed it off, saying he wasn’t drunk. That was when the siblings came up with a plan to draft a text message to send to 911 but would only send it if he swerved one more time which he eventually did and they hit the send button promptly dispatching the message to the authorities. KTLA reports; "to make it easier for Kearney police to find them, the children convinced their father to stop at a Burger King. Officers arrived and tested Behrens’ blood alcohol content, which was three times the legal limit, KUTV reported. He faces a charge of DUI and two counts of driving drunk with minors in the car. “He’s our parent, our other parent. It was hard, but he just pushed us to the point that we had to,” Ethan said". Let me share a miracle that happened in the Church yesterday. Two young men drove a Toyota RAV 4, parked well and slammed the door shut only to realize they locked in their key still in the ignition. This was reported to me so I told them to enter and worship first because fretting won't solve the issue as at that time. At least so they don't miss the Mass too. Later I got a suitable material to use to pry the door lock which I gave to them and went about my duty. Close to the end of Mass, they went to tackle it. I went to check on them but they didn't make any headway and the mechanics around that usually worked on Sundays chose yesterday not to operate. Duty called so I left again. Soon I saw them smiling and walking into the church. They just replied; "a miracle happened. We were already frustrated especially as the car didn't have a spare key. So we started praying to St. Anthony of Padua. Immediately a similar RAV 4 drove by and we stopped him. Begged him to use his key to open our door. Once we inserted his key our door opened and we retrieved our own car key inside". I was really happy for them and happy also they realized that there is a superior power to call on in the midst of every problem no matter how mundane you think. Funny thing is that I am no even a member of the St. Anthony's society but I appreciate what he did for the men yesterday. Anthoo..... Padua! |

I had decided to write on our roads and crashes especially as a fall-out of a trip I made as I just returned from a road trip. I drove from Lagos to Enugu State on Saturday. Then took a commercial vehicle back to Lagos on Sunday. Last December as I informed my brother that I was driving to Enugu, he advised me that once I get to Akwa I should divert to the old road which is better than the 'new' road. Well, as I was driving the FWD CX7, I obeyed. For my trip on Saturday, I drove a Nissan Pathfinder with working 4WD so once I got to Akwa, I decided to drive through the bad 'new' road to see things for my self. It is not an understatement to say that the road is now a pathetic case. In fact once you leave Onitsha which has lovely Federal Road, built by the last administration of HE Peter Obi and refunded by the Federal Government and you get towards the Nteje axis, you wonder how you left civilization without warning. The same stretch of Federal government road loses its tarred surface for a rough, untarred and red soil that gets very messy once the slightest of rains touch the ground. Continue to Awkuzu and the situation gets worse as traffic inbound Enugu is now even forced to the oncoming land because theirs has become unmotorable and overgrown with weed and trash. Punish the suspension bits of your car and get to Akwa and you heave a sigh of relief as the good roads belonging to the same Federal government but also built by the State government give you a breather. Once you get past the Governor's office Junction, the choice becomes yours as to if you want to brave continuing at your car's detriment or make a detour to the old but better road. I chose to see and boy, did I see and experience a bad road, even the car felt it. I soon realized that there was not a single private car plying that stretch of road except for few buses who I suspect are just helping the inhabitants of the villages there ease their transportation needs. The road here is not only extremely rough, muddy, it was also strewn with huge potholes that made navigation a herculean task. Heavy duty vehicles are forced to take this road because the old road can't accommodate them so imagine the frequency of breakdowns and crashes they experience here. Plying through this road one is forced to ask why this important road was left to degenerate to this deplorable level. Can't our leaders learn that somethings should be left out of politics especially roads, healthcare and power supply? Lives and properties are constantly lost to crashes, breakdowns and robberies. As for robberies, one is forced to slow down thereby making it easy for robbers to strike. I am aware that at some point, there were efforts to rebuild this road and even large quantities of gravel overgrown with weeds can be seen at intervals on the inbound Enugu lane, meaning that for like 95% of the trip before Enugu State, one is forced to drive against traffic on the outbound from Enugu. At intervals, I had to take pictures but couldn't step down because of the level of laterite mud I would have stepped into. Also I didn't have enough space to clear off the road to take pictures of the huge potholes but I got as many as I could without endangering myself nor other road users. I am not holding brief for anyone but I join the millions of people of the South-East to bring this issue to the front burner and let the Federal Government know that it is their responsibility to provide good roads for every part of the country irrespective of tribe. I know this will sound sarcastic to some but each time a senior staff of the government dies on the road, like the recent one of Sunday, it should serve as a grim reminder that road incidents know no tribe, gender nor social status. Even when our present President was attacked by a bomb blast, it was while driving. So the importance of having a good and safe motor able road can never be overemphasized. If government officials like, let them fly from Jerusalem to Sydney, Australia, the truth is that you will touch down and use the same roads as we mere mortals. Remember also that someday you will leave government and ride on those roads you refused fixing. Even if it hasn't gotten to your turn, your relatives will. And as the 'Oga' of the family, who else will bear the brunt if not you? I will also advise the governments of Enugu and Anambra to team up and construct that road then seek for a refund from the FG inorder to quickly ameliorate the huge suffering of your indigenes and residents. This will not only improve economic growth for them, it will also help you with improved IGR (internally generated revenue) as with increased productivity, you can then tax better and they will willingly even pay their taxes. Lives and properties will also be saved and armed robberies can be reduced to the barest minimum. At this stage, we are not imploring the immediate fixing of the road, but we are demanding for that. Of course by the time I got to 9th Mile, I had learnt why my brother warned me last December against using the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway. God bless the Federal Government of Nigeria. God bless Anambra State. God bless Enugu State. Culled from http://www.naijacarlovers.com/2016/03/the-sorry-state-of-enugu-onitsha_7.html?m=1

Thank God for their survival but looking at the pictures, it seems like they ran into the trailer 'cos the crumple position of the bonnet it looks like they tried applying their brake unsuccessfully before hitting the trailer. I stand to be corrected though. |
Connoisseur:Thanks bro. Further verifications are welcome. Remember it was a chance meeting we had. |

Nigeria's Oldest Female Commercial Vehicle Driver And How She Lost Her Estate Read how i met Nigeria's unarguably oldest driver of a commercial vehicle still in active service. I had an appointment at Alausa and while there, i got another call to report to Amuwo Odofin urgently. I decided to leave the car at Alausa, board public transport to beat traffic and also save the fuel i had as the fuel scarcity had built up. As i stood at the bus-stop a blue Toyota Sienna pulled up and discharged some passengers. I saw the elderly lady driving the car and i thought those were her staff that she dropped off but she remained for like 3 minutes and i noticed the man beside me asking her if she was headed to Ketu she said no and her faint voice replied "Ojota". Since i had spent about 20 minutes waiting for a bus going to Oshodi i decided to follow her to Ojota and then board another vehicle from there. Like 2 minutes into the trip i advised her to put on her seat belt and she told me that it chokes her as she is diabetic, and just returned from admission in the hospital because her blood sugar level spiked terribly. Two things i noticed immediately were her voice which was very calm, confident though low; and the polished and courteous manner she replied me. These now pricked my interest to hear her story and it turned out to be very disheartening. Her name is Mrs Felicia Chidi (Chief Ugonma). She is 58 years old and from Enugu State. She told me that she had lived in USA and UK and she is a trained nurse and worked in these countries as a nurse. She had lost her husband several years ago and she has two female daughters who are married and resident in America but can't come to Nigeria for now. So right now she lives with a little girl that keeps her company and helps her with house chores in a border town in Ogun state but comes to Lagos daily to hustle with her commercial driving to raise funds for her daily upkeep pending when ever she gets money from her children who can't work yet. So what brought her back and why did she settle for driving a 'kabu-kabu' commercial vehicle? I had directly asked her this question and had then informed her that i would love to write about her. At that point i only had in mind to celebrate her hustling spirit but her answer was most pathetic. Chief now informed me that like 2011 she was summoned from her base abroad that her properties in Nigeria were being claimed by some land-grabbers. She informed me that she had built a mini estate comprising of 3 duplexes, 6 shops, 1 bungalow, 2 flats, on 43 Ogundana street, off Allen Ave, ikeja, Lagos. But as she rushed back, she realised that one Yoruba family had laid claims to her entire estate which she said she has all her documents to including Certificate of Occupancy. But the family claimed that they are the rightful owners. And had taken her to court in her absence and judgment was also deliberated and served in her absence transferring ownership to them. That was how she became homeless and houseless and moved from being a landlady of an estate to becoming a tenant living outside Lagos State. She said she engaged the services of a lawyer who collected N1,500,000 from her yet did not make any headway. She now cried to the family at Ikeja that sold the land to her and they also demanded another huge amount from her before they would agree to bring out their original family land register and testify on her behalf. In the course of going through all these the same family that forcefully took over her properties, sent thugs armed with guns to her house and kidnapped her daughter, took her valuables including plasma television sets and packed all into her Toyota Sienna bus and told her to hand over her original title documents to the said properties which she refused. They then told her that before they would release her abducted daughter she would pay a ransom and they took her in another vehicle to the bank where she withdrew her final savings and paid them before they released her daughter. This event has also made her daughters so scared of returning to Nigeria. And as a widow now battling ill-health and no money again, she got to her wit's end and ended up using her Toyota Sienna to run commercial transportation. Even doing this has not come easy as she had to contend with different unions and her fellow male drivers who found it very difficult accepting a female driver in their midst. As she was enduring the physical and psychological trauma, her car was also taking some bashings especially deliberate ones from the drivers who wanted to frustrate her out of their park. But knowing that she won't have another source of livelihood, she stood her grounds, enduring all sorts from human beings and from ill-health as she was now taking ill more frequently, spending the little money she makes on only food and medications. Moreover, her life is still not safe from those who had stolen her estate and even kidnapped her daughter released only after receiving ransom payment. I had great pity and paid her for my fare, gave her more money and told her to close earlier that day so she could rest. Immediately she collected the money, she prayed for me and told me that her priority right then was to go to Ikeja Under-Bridge and buy a used handset because she no longer even had any to make or receive calls. She promised to call me once she gets a handset and reactivated her line but as i type this, i haven't heard from her. Though as soon as possible, i will still go look for her. I promised her that i will write about her and pray that she gets justice. Source: http://www.naijacarlovers.com/2016/03/meet-nigerias-oldest-female-commercial.html#more.

lebete3000:Every car whether sedan or SUV has advantages and disadvantages. Sedans will give you better road holding because they are closer to the ground and their center of gravity is lower so you can do higher speeds and take bends at much higher speeds also. Most of them are also lighter thereby giving u better aerodynamics and better braking and fuel efficiency. But SUVs are mostly higher, giving you better ground clearance and ability to pass bad roads or obstacles easier and this factor works against them as they then have a higher center of gravity which makes the car not well adapted for high speeds and high speed maneuvers. It is not about whether it is a particular brand like you mentioned Mercedes. Even inside the car on the visor, you will see a sticker warning you that the SUV is more likely to roll over if improperly used. Remember that there are exceptions to each case. Some SUVs are heavily modified to handle high speeds and maneuvers but they must compromise on ground clearance. And tire types. I will not name brands o. So go ahead and buy your preferred brand and model but like you take certain precautions to guard your touchscreen Android phone different from how you handle your 'armoured' 3310 so you should also handle your SUV differently from the way you handle your sedan to avoid 'stories that touch the heart'. Cheers. |
lebete3000:Email me so I advice u. |
mart2k:Next time chew your words before spewing. I have no business with you so do not insult me. You just displayed your IQ. |
AntiIPOB:Send me a mail. Hope to hear from you. Cheers |
AntiIPOB:Send me a mail. Hope to hear from you. Cheers. |
AntiIPOB:. Will I get alert if you know me? |
EgunMogaji:That tire is not over-inflated. That is a road biased multi terrain tire. The grooves look ok. But further inspection is needed. |
Rollingdice:. Most of this man's points are baseless from the technical point. I can't say for the political aspect. Sadly also the said driver "who was well enough to take pictures" is now dead. To read more on what most probably happened visit www.naijacarlovers.com. |
