Hey Black Spit! cheesy

Thanks for the link to the tutorial! It was quite helpful. Have you considered if the sender uses a proxy server or an IP masking sofware (IP spooofing)? Then the X-Originating IP might not be helpful that much. In this case, the sender might not be a scammer, but you want his/her exact location, maybe you are doing some kind of investigation.

Does that make sense? Is there any proxy burster or an application for unmasking IP masks. Anyway, to the best of my knowledge, one cant easily use a masking-IP from your location of choice. Most software gives you a dynamic IP from anypart of the world.

kisses & Love from Rhoda.

My Reply: I sent this to our mysterious persona

Hi Rhoda,

I am sorry to hear about your sad story. Dont worry, sometimes people go through hard times. But sooner or later, they overcome and everything becomes pleasure.

I live in Lagos, Nigeria. I also went through some hard times but I guess not as harsh as yours. I didnt witness a civil war or lived in a refugee. I am sorry about your story. I must ask, what do you do now? Do you go to school? If yes, what do you study? Do you have constant access to the internet? Lets start from there.

And again, I dont mean to turn you down, but I am not ready for another relationship as I am in one now. We can be friends though. If there is anyway you need my assistance, dont hesitate to let me know.

Take care sister.

And Guess what?! He/She sent me this

Hello My Dearest Darling,
I am very happy in your reply to my mail.How are you doing today? How was the night hope fine? As i told you in my previous mail about my agony,How rebels enter our house and killed my mother and my father in cold blood morning.Asyou have to here in this camp we are not always allowed to go out from the camp (Refugee) every day of the weeks.but l was able to have access to computer due to the help of the Reverend Father here in the camp, In this camp,Its just like one staying in the prison and i pray by Gods grace i will come out here soon.

I don't have any relatives now whom i can go to all my relatives ran away in the middle of the war the only person i have now is Rev. Peter Solo who is the pastor of the (Christ the king church) here in the camp he has been very nice to me since i came here but i am not living with him, rather i am leaving in the women's hostel because the camp have two hostels one for men the other for women.

The Pastors Tel number is (00221-596 -54-31) if you call and tell him that you want to speak with me he will send for me in the female hostel.As a refugee here i don't have any right or privilege to any thing be it money or whatever because it is against the law of this country.I want to go back to my studies because i only attended my first year before the tragic incident that lead to my being in this situation now took place.

Please listen to this carefully (please it's a secret,even the Rev rend don't know about it),i have my late father's statement of account and death certificate here with me which i will send to you latter,because when he was alive he deposited some amount of money in one of the leading bank in United Kingdom, which he used my name as the next of kin, because i'm so dearly to my father when he was alive, the amount is ($4.7 Million US Dollars) Four Million Seven Hundred Thousand US Dollars.

So i will like you to help me to transfer this money into your bank account and from it you can send some money to me, to get my traveling documents and air ticket to come over to meet with you after the transfer.I kept this secret to people in the camp here(even the Reverend don't know about it),because i am afraid to loose this money if many ears gets to know about it. So,in the light of above i will like you to keep it to yourself and don't tell it to anyone for i am afraid of loosing my life and the money if people gets to know about it. Remember i am giving you all this information due to the trust i deposed on you, after many days prayers to God.I like honest and understanding people,truthful and a man of vision,ambitious and hardworking man.

Meanwhile i will like you to call me like i said i have alot to tell you. Also i would like you to tell me more about yourself, your full details so that i can present your full data to the bank to enable them recognize you as my foreign partner, please i will give to you the contact of the bank where the money is deposited in my next massage.Have a nice day and think about me. Awaiting to hear from you soonest,
Yours forever in love,
Rhoda .

He/She even sent me a female picture, Now. I have read a little about scam baiting so I want to PIN this one, If the sender is from Nigeria, EFCC better be ready smiley

If you have any idea about how to bait a scammer, please send them in. One Love: Say NO to 419!

Hey Peeps,

What's their yardstick for indecency? Is enforcing moral actions the job of the Police? What's going to happen to our  Fundamental Human Right?

This are questions I put to you. Please help me,

In my opinion bodsibobo made the most important point, but I differ on the basis of praying to God alone. There is a way out.

Philosophy is the beginning and the ending of knowledge acquisition. Most of the time in life we find out that our choice, taste, aspirations, visions in life change, which happened to bodsibobo. One thing that doesn't change is the ability to think logically and consistently. I found out that I had alot of interest, and like alot of peoeple I am versatile too. So instead of studying anything, I did Philosophy. Now I:

Develop Software
Developing Investment Skills in Shares, Forex, Properties
Building my fish pond (Agriculture)
Writing Books (on Artificial Intelligence, Religion and Web Development)

With philosophy, you delve into any area of interest. Most peeps think Philosophy is all about atheism. Give it thought!

Programming / Re: Urgent: Interview (programmer) by naijaguru(m): 2:07pm On May 28, 2007
@Fdeveloper

I'm not sure about this as I think that it's often more difficult to take over someone's code and enhance it than to start from afresh.

- Coming from my PHP background, its easier using Other Peoeple's Code than starting from scratch. Ask most peoeple you reuse codes from sourceforge or hotscripts. This is pretty time-saving, especially if the code is well commented and has an active community support

I take your point but on the other hand, if the company gets a contract based on a demo you have developed then why wouldn't they employ you instead of going to India assuming you were still available of course?

- Well, cos there is this mentatlity that software from Indian is better, and sometimes cheaper.

Its not an absolute conclusion that they wouldnt employ the programmer, its just a possibility so one has to be careful. If I was the smart programmer, and the application was to be web-based, I would try as much as possible to make some serious dependencies in the code that would require them calling me.
Programming / Re: Urgent: Interview (programmer) by naijaguru(m): 4:13pm On May 26, 2007
@Fdeveloper

- If you were the IT manager of the organisation in question, would you use an application developed under such circumstances bearing in mind the developer is very likely to make several errors due to nerves?

- Even assuming you decide to use the code, who will support it if you don't employ the developer?

- If you have developers in house who are able to review the code and perhaps enhance it, then surely you would use them to develop the application in the first place.

- Some IT manager would do so, in the belief that they would enhance the code. Not everyone who can enhance codes can develop from scratch. I tell you, there are some pros in re-using open source codes / applications, but cant develop one.

- You might say, why not go to freshmeat.net or sourceforge.net . But remember, in Nigeria, there some needed solutions that aren't on sourceforge or freshmeat.

- And again, like Afam rightly said, they might want to exploit you by using your work as a demo for some other clients, and when their contract gets approved, they'll patronize an Indian written application!
Programming / Which Is Faster? Php Or Java by naijaguru(m): 3:47pm On May 26, 2007
(Note: I am not comparing JAVA and PHP in terms of what each can do or not, I’m just checking out development time)

Hey! Before you guys eat me up and call me dumb dummy, let me rephrase my topic. Which is faster in terms of development? PHP or Java. This question popped into my mind after feeling Java for quite some weeks. I used to believe PHP was faster in terms of development, but I am having some doubts. Thanks to my TechnoPsychic friend who wouldn’t stop rambling about Java this, Java that, Java frameworks, Struts, Spring, JFC. Don’t be surprised that I don’t know much about those names, but I am sure they are there to help Developers cut development time.

Now, these frameworks are there in PHP too. CodeIgniter, which I use rocks, but with some very little headache in terms of limitation, but you could actually alter the BASE easily and suit your pranks! The Active Record class is so cool, not to talk about the much important libraries like validation class, url helper. Also has a plugin for plugins that is shared by a community. CI supports both PHP4 and PHP5. Hey! CI is carrying me away. PHP also has Symfony, this turned me off out rightly, though, from the little I read and from the feel of the Symfony community, Symfony looks great. But I can’t afford the luxury of a dedicated server! My shared hosting account wouldn’t upgrade to PHP5. So one wonders why one can’t get a stable Symfony version for PHP4. Or is one out there? I wouldn’t say much about ZEND or CakePHP because I haven’t touched them for now, may not touch the Zend Framework for some time, because of the PHP5 wahala.

Apart from the frameworks, and more about it, what makes me thinks PHP could be faster in terms of development time is because, you wont have to compile, you just write and upload / update, you don’t need to create packages, or doze in a command-line hitting the javac keyword whenever you want to see your application run. I don’t know if JAVA too works that way. Maybe the JSP part does. Thanks to the MVC design pattern, I can just sit on my computer for four hours and write all model parts, provided there is a clear design on ground. With CI in PHP, I’ll do.

Class Mymodel extends Model
{
function Mymodel()
{
parent::Model();
$this->load->database();
}

function get_last_post($post_id = ‘’)
{
//The procedural code
//Or some function reuse in this class
//like $this->get_last_login()
}

function upload_post($post_details)
{
//The procedural code
//Or some function reuse in this class
//like $this->get_last_login()
}

//And so on and so forth
}

Then in my controller, I simply call the MyModel guy like $this->load->model(‘MyModel’) and give Mr View the data from the methods or functions:

Class MyController extends Controller {

function MyController()
{
parent::Controller();
$this->load->model(‘MyModel’)
}

function index() //works the way your index.php or index.htm works on your server
{
$data[‘last_post’] = $this->MyModel->get_last_post();

//Then load the Mr View
$this->load->view(‘MyPage’, $data);

/*for the sake of simplicity, I omitted some logic you might want to apply on the stuffs you get from the model, like if $data[‘last_post’] turns out not to have any post at all.*/

}

}

Then Mr View (MyPage.php or .htm or .tpl or whatever you want), which is the face of your application will be an HTML predominant file like this (Your view file doesn’t have to be PHP file to work, but advisable )

<html>
<head>
<titile>My Php View</tile>
</head>
<body>
<p>
<?=$last_post?>
<!-- Yes you can use the php_short_tags to call in the values in the $data array form the controller -->
</p>
</body>
</html>

So simple and saves development time substantially. You can even share it amongst your crew. Someone writes the controller, someone designs the view and you write the model classes. As simple as things can be, the infuriating part is muddling HTML with your PHP codes. Though to an extent, things can be simple with the help of some Templating system like smarty, there can still be a problem when u add great looking views to your application. For example, in CI, you can do something likt $this->table->generate(); Which will generate a table based on an array or your result from the DB, but if you have to edit the data in the table, like add in image in a <td> or add an hyperlink to a user_name, you would have to use the foreach statement, thus mixing <a href=’’> or <img> in <?php ?> doing the ugly looking concatenation operator “.”.

In my opinion, and if this isn’t misleading, this aspect is where PHP fall short of the glory of Java! In Java, everything is code; cool (How about JSP? My mind tells me same problem applies). Probably, some Java people in the house would shed some light. As a sweet graphic / web designer come addicted coder, I like switch-casing my mind between designing and coding, so when any interferes with any, I get pissed off, and it slows me down. Or maybe, I should start thinking of writing HTML like I write codes. Huh?

If Java is a write-code-only language, even in JSP, that will be an edge over PHP, as you would just sit and code out your designed application while enjoying debugging the glitches. This point has launched me into looking at how JSP works, anyway, I am not planning to switch to Java for writing Web Applications, (When I start writing my Games and Mobile Apps, I wouldn’t need HTML) just ranting…

This piece isn’t meant to be about CI, or Frameworks, but about which, due to language structure and design, is faster to write; PHP or Java. PHP is pretty fast to write, but due to HTML’s interference, especially when it comes to styling, writing HTML ridden PHP at times pisses me of. Would love to here from some Java pros…

Finally,

After the 3rd week of my last and final code-from-scratch application of a custom admin panel, simple forum, news management system, and some custom features, the website now up for testing. I did everything from scratch designed the UI, made use of a very crude and stone-age MVC (lol).

After delving into other Open Source Apps out there and working with a couple of frameworks and some classes from http://phpclasses.org, I became ashamed of myself. I could have finished this stuff in just four days! If you are used to reusing codes, I am sure you'd be pissed at seeing my source code, tho its a lil bit documented.

Here is it http://mathematical7.com Its Big Seg's website. That says it all. It has his columns, some news headlines, competitions, factbase, shop, forum, and all was coded from scratch but they are like tits and bits of those large apps out there.

Programming / Re: Php User Password Recovery Script by naijaguru(m): 2:03pm On Apr 11, 2007
My brother,

There are two options, and it depends on your signup form / user DB. If you encrypted the password using md5($password) for example, which is recommended, you would have to reset the password and not resend

I can't start coding cos I am in a cafe right now, but let me give you a guideline which is better.

1. For Resend, Simple set up a page with a form of one field or two if you like:

Something like

username,
email,
submit

Then check ur db for a correlation btw this two fields. Your CODE should be like

//Write SQL
$sql = "SELECT * FROM user_table WHERE username = '$username' AND email = '$email' LIMIT 1";
$result = mysql_query($sql) or die ('Could not check username with email: '.mysql_error());
//Check if query return an empty result set
if(mysql_num_rows($result) < 1)
{
$error = "Username and Email doesn't match, please try again";
}
else
{
$row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result);
//extract the $row array to get an email and password variable of the user's email and password
extract($row); //The u have the variable $password (if not encrypted) and $email

//use the mail() function to send the details to the email address from ur DB! and not the one provided.
}

2. For Reset

When you get to the else clause, you generate a password, you can use the rand() function, then use the mail() function to send before updating the password in the DB! dont update before sending, cos if sending failed, u would have reset the poor guys password.

If you need a better script, go onlie, but try coding one urself for learning purpose. More help use naijaguru [at] the free email service provided by google.

Thats the point Bossman.

You can read and understand how a programming language works, note the features and be a theoretical pro. You can even teach it, or even write a book on it! Like most the lecturers in our universities do. But that does not make u a coder in those languages.

What makes u a coder or a user of a Programming Language is ur ability to be able to transform solutions into programs using them!
Programming / Re: What Programming Languages Have You Used? by naijaguru(m): 10:53am On Mar 30, 2007
There should be a line here.

Well, I have PLAYED with Languages like C, C++, VB, Perl

But I code professionally and actively in PHP and JavaScript cos I do Web Development strictly www.codixel.com

Right now, I am in the middle of JAVA (an awesome language). Plan to get married to this language in the nearest future tongue

I run MySql databses.

I wouldnt lay my hands on any programming language without an overwhelming OpenSource support!
Programming / Re: Share Your Programming Tips by naijaguru(m): 10:27am On Mar 30, 2007
@ my2cents.

I think using
for(int i = 0; i <= array.lenght(); i++) {
, your code here
} (Java) is better.

Why? What if you are coding a sort of game or a multi-threading app, and the length of your array increases during runtime. Your loop would simply accommodate the current array.length(). Copying array.length() in a variable would result to looping in a wrong number of times.

did you know that nl2br() function in PHP adds a <br> to every newline in your user input from the <textarea> field?

Seriously, I never knew that, I had to use TinyMCE, an application written in JavaScript to convert <textarea> inputs to HTML and also act like a sort word processor on your HTML forms, for a simple news management system. It was so stupid cos TinyMCE takes over 1MB of space from ur host, and you also have to deal with JavaScript compatibility issues, tho light.

Little functions like that could save you the stress of re-inventing the wheel.
