Business / Jason Njoku & Irokotv Reportedly Laying Off Top Executives,100s Of Staff Sacked by NaijaPlayboy: 11:47pm On Oct 20, 2015
I just saw this on Techmoran.com and its big. I have copied parts of the story.

Hundreds of jobs are being axed at Nollywood content providers, iROKO Partners quietly as the firm aims to move into profitability, cut down its operational costs and shift base to London according to sources familiar with the situation.

The sources, who asked to remain anonymous, claim iROKO is facing a very high degree of mismanagement and experimentation which is turning to be cruel to employees and hurting the name of the firm and its investors. The informants also accuse co-founder and CEO, Jason Njoku of ‘indecisiveness, mismanagement, cruelty and riding the Nollywood fame’.

“The place is abusive and investors are too negligent to the firm’s internal HR matters and over 100 people have been quietly let go in a few weeks even as Jason promises everyone a glorious future,” one of the sources told TechMoran. “In July, iROKOtv.com hired 100 people to do telesales. The firm expected them to sell free trials via phone miraculously. 50 new laptops and phones were bought and the office redesigned to fit them.”

The insider told TechMoran the move simply didn’t work, the telesales guys were devastated because they couldn’t do any magic. Shortly 96 plus people were fired from the firm consisting mostly of the telesales team. The firm then hired 10-15 content operations guys in London to reopen the London office, one year after it was shut down. These video editors, graphics designers among others are way more expensive than their counterparts in Nigeria.

With this experiments, the insider says iROKOtv was firing in Lagos to hire in London expecting to sign up a new market for Nollywood but adds that London is expensive and makes no sense but just a sign of mismanagement.

“iROKO has fired its VP of distribution, lead of partnerships, head of global talent, lead of offline, lead of YouTube, its CTO and the its engineering lead plus the telesales team and content operations,” says our second insider adding that though the lay offs could be iROKO’s plan to cut its burn rate, no one talks about the 5,000 DVDs dumped at the Johannesburg office, the low revenues and poor management or planning at the firm.

You don't need to have second thoughts, i am sure georgee's was just a one time thing, they deliver on time and when there are delays(due to the state of things in Nigeria), they always call and even tweet at you when they have problems. I recently just ordered some stuff off their site, and i didnt hv any problems

mrkels: Wow , so they even delay in their delivery. Am not currently in lagos and so couldn't use their pay on delivery method so I choose the bank payment method , now am having second thoughts cos of this post as I don't know if they ll even send me the original thing I ordered or even deliver it on time. They already called me today confirming the order . Abeg how do I cancel?

Its quite unfortunate that you experienced this problem but i am sure its a one time thing. i have ordered stuff from ecommerce firms outside the country and had delay but they eventually came, and i still sop from them. i regularly shop online with konga.com, i recently bought a samsung tv on their platform and they delivered it pronto so i am sure that this was a one time thing..You can talk to them on twitter www.twitter.com/shopkonga and i am sure they will reply you immediately.

georgee: Can u imagine these KONGA guys, i ordered an Icegate washing machine and an HP Pavilion G6 laptop on wednesday(8th May). I can only get it sat.* I said no problem. I checked my order page and noticed my delivery date has bn shifted to sat 11th May between 12-3pm. Now today is saturday, called dem just now to knw aw far. They said *ehn, i cant get dem today, i can only get dem 2morrw sunday*. At this point, i got so pissed off and told dem to cancel my order. I drove past HP office on Idowu Martins VI on Tue, culd av easily bought the laptop dia. LG is close to wia i live in surulere, culd av just gone dia to buy my washing machine jeje. Now they promised to call me back and help me find out if ma stuff wuld be delivered today. I am waiting for their call which i believe will neva come. .

Business / Re: Is Jumia Rewarding Customers With Fake Vouchers? by NaijaPlayboy: 9:07pm On May 11, 2013
This is big, i dont really like Jumia personally, but this is going too far, recently i wrote an article about how bad their customer service is, i even spoke to some very angry guys on twitter, but if they are doing this they are taking it too far.
I like konga.com because as an indigenous company they are really blazing the trail in ecommerce and they ccontinue to impress me

Celebrities / Picture: Omawumi Spotted With CEO Of Konga.com And Other Top Executives by NaijaPlayboy: 2:01pm On May 11, 2013
I have my eyes and ears everywhere and one of my eyes just blinked twice to inform me of this gist.

Omawumi who was just announced as a Glo Ambassador in a Multi million naira deal seems to be up for another deal.

From this picture I was able to get (They haven’t even released it sef); Omawumi was spotted at the Konga.com’s office with their top executives.

“Is a deal with the e-commerce giant of Nigeria on the cards?” Are we seeing another multi million naira deal for Omawumi within a few days of the Glo deal?

This may make sense because of her hit song – “Adebisi Konga… Omawumi baby”, but we can’t wait to confirm if the beautiful star is penning another deal with Konga.com. Let us wait and see…more details as I get them

Moyessssssssss, came as a big suprise when I heard it, but looking at it, the guy has been very consisitent, making good bargains in the transfer window and keeping Everton relevant season in, season out..;

I dont know if he would be my first, second or even third choice though

Religion / Is Money Making Ritual The Only Way To Instant Wealth In Africa? by NaijaPlayboy: 12:35am On Aug 12, 2012
ts 2012, the age of civilization, enlightenment and technological advancement, and many old customs and cultures that had ruled have been set aside, but the one thing that still links us with our forefathers is the great lengths we still go to make money.

Money rules the day, but while our forefathers had more traditional means of making money, we have developed much more modern styles of making money.

Many of us believe that the age of “Money Rituals” is over, but I am sorry to bust your bubble because it still exists in different shapes and sizes.
