Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria’s former president, has denied reports that he will be contesting the presidential election in 2019.

The report, which was published by an online medium, stated that Jonathan declared interest to run for presidency in 2019 in Bayelsa yesterday.
It was also reported that Jonathan was inundated with calls from Nigerians “to recontest and salvage the economy from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).”
However, according to the Sun News, Jonathan’s media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, has denied the former president is considering taking another shot at the presidency.
Eze said the former president never made any declaration on 2019 election, either in May or this month.
Jonathan contested the 2015 presidemtial election on the platform of the peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC.
Before the final count at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja, Jonathan called Buhari to congratulate him on his victory.

Crime / LOLZ!!! Man Beats Girlfriend For Saving His Contact With “microfinance Bank” by Naijatalktalk(m): 9:47am On Jul 07, 2016
Man revealed reasons for her action say: “I have been dating ‘HER’ for over 3months now and everything is going fine. So last week I decided to invite her to my place, and she came. When we were together, her phone rang but she refused to pick her call, and I asked her why she didn’t pick. She said nothing, and for me to check who had called her. I saw ‘SterlingBank calling’; and I begged her to pick, may be the Bank wants to give US money. After that, another call was coming in, ‘GTB calling’, she ignored it. UBA followed and I picked it but the caller didn’t talk and I cut the call.

A minute later, FirstBank calling, she put it on hold; when ZenithBank called, she shouted at ZenithBank. When FidelityBank was calling, she rejected the call. Later after an hour, one call entered her phone singing John Legend’s song; just to check who called her, I saw ‘CBN’, and she picked it and answered the call well. Later when I asked her, she said that one of her Uncle working there used the office landline to call her. I said Ok. Few minutes later, WorldBank

Sports / Arsenal Signs Promising Asian Striker: “takuma Asano” by Naijatalktalk(m): 3:06am On Jul 04, 2016
Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign the 21-year-old Japanese striker, Takuma Asano from the J-League club, Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
Asano made his full international debut for Japan last August and has since gone on to make five appearances for his country. The forward is expected to be named in the Japan squad for the Rio Olympics later this summer.

“Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future,” said the Arsenal manager, Arsène Wenger. “He has had an impressive start to his career in Japan and we look forward to him developing over the next couple of years.”

The forward boosts Arsenal’s attacking options after their pursuit of the Leicester City striker, Jamie Vardy ended in failure.

Although considered as one for the future, Asano, whose transfer is subject to the completion of a medical, is expected to train with Arsenal’s first-team squad. Asano becomes the third Japanese player to play under Wenger at Arsenal, following midfielders Junichi Inamoto and Ryo Miyaichi.
This move has been trailed by criticisms on social media following high expectations of fans who wanted a big

Education / Each NYSC Corps Member To Get N3m As CBN Unveils N2.5bn Entrepreneurship by Naijatalktalk(m): 11:29am On Jul 02, 2016
Speaking during an event at the NYSC camp in Abuja on Thursday, the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele, has revealed that the apex bank has set aside N2.5 billion for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with good business ideas to actualise their dreams.
The CBN governor said that the N2.5 billion, which was set from the N220 billion Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund, would be disbursed to the corps members under the Youth Entrepreneurship Development Programme.
He disclosed firther that the CBN is targeting to create one million jobs through the YEDP, which is an initiative of the apex bank launched on March 15 this year by the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele which the purpose of the programme is to address the challenges of youth unemployment in the country.
Under the YEDP, the apex bank, in collaboration with Heritage Bank Plc, will develop the entrepreneurial capacity of the youth as well as provide each of them with a maximum of N3m to operate a business.
The activities to be covered under the programme are start-ups and expansion projects in the agricultural value chain (fish farming, poultry and snail farming), cottage industry, mining, solid minerals, tourism, arts and crafts, Information and Communications Technology and any other activity that may be determined by the CBN.
Emefiele said the initiative would enable the CBN to conserve the huge foreign exchange, which was currently being spent to import food items, adding that each corps member was entitled to N3 million, and that their discharge certificates as well their degree certificates would be used as collateral to secure the loan.
“It is not a grant and it is a loan that must be repaid. We are determined to give support to the youth and I truly must thank the National Youth Service Corps, which has helped us to put together the first set of NYSC beneficiaries so that we can nurture them as young entrepreneurs, not as people who go into the world looking for jobs.

Travel / Minster Of Transport: “signs Mou On $11.117bn Lagos-calabar” Railway Project by Naijatalktalk(m): 9:45am On Jul 02, 2016
he President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government on Friday, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the lagos-Ibadan and Calabar-Port Harcourt railway projects with the China Civil and Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) for $11.117 billion, saving $800 million from the initial estimated value of $11.917 billion.
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, signed the agreement on behalf of the federal government, while the President of CCECC, Ceo Baogang, signed for the company in Abuja on Friday.
At the signing ceremony in Abuja, Amaechi said the contract which was initially negotiated by the Goodluck Jonathan administration, will be completed in two years, and expressed optimism that federal government will meet its counterpart funding of 15%, the China EXIM bank will defray the remaining 85% of the project.
Amaechi said, “we were able to save 800 million dollars from the initial sum of the project which will be delivered in the next two years. This contract was awarded by the President Goodluck Jonathan regime at 11.917 billion dollars and when we took over at Ministry of Transportation we negotiated with CCECC and succeeded in reducing the contract sum from 11.917 billion dollars to 11.117 billion dollars.
“We are able to save 800 million dollars after negotiation with CCECC and that has to do with the fact that CCECC said prices of commodities like steel and other things have come down. “So, our gathering is to sign same contract but with different price and to make it legal from the initial price to the negotiated price.

“As soon as we conclude discussion with China Exim Bank, they will commence construction of the first segment,’’ he said adding that the first segment would be from Calabar, Uyo, Aba and Port Harcourt and it would include all the seaports on the route.

“The entire contract covers Calabar, Uyo, Aba, Port Harcourt, Yenagoa, Otuoke, Ughelli, Warri, Sapele, Benin, Agbor, Asaba, Onitsha, Ore, Ijebu Ode, Sagamu and Lagos. “My expectation is that the project can be completed in two years since funding won’t be a problem,’’ the minister said.
On his part, the CCECC Ceo, Baogang, said ” the railway would contribute immensely to the economic development of the country and open doors of employment, adding that the company was ready to train Nigerians through building of factories, especially those in the grassroots.

“I know that railway contributes immensely to the economic development in Nigeria and it is very important.

“Railway will open doors for local people and I am sure that we will create more than 400 jobs with this project.

“We will execute this project with quality materials and with high speed and we hope to deliver in two years as expected by the minister,” he said.

Up to 70 churches, 20 mosques and about 11 hotels, club houses and beer parlours were shut down by the Lagos State Government on Wednesday.

According to Vanguard, this was in a move aimed at reducing noise in the state.

The General Manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Bola Shabi, who made this known, said that henceforth, the state government would no longer allow make-shift buildings to be used as places of worship.
Shabi said: “Precisely about 70 churches, 20 mosques and about 11 hotels, club houses and beer parlours were shut and we’ve given them some directives to follow.
“We’ve been so strict now that we are not going to even allow make-shift churches in the state any longer. “What I mean by make-shift, using tents and uncompleted building, we are not going to allow that any further in the state.

“But I will strongly tell you that the level of compliance is more on the mosque area, because immediately you shut them, they instantly bring down their speakers or reduce the noise they make.’’ Shabi said that
