Young and old have been given a sound warning to stay away from pornography and masturbation as it could affect the brain and lead one astray.
This was revealed by the Rev. Paul Ojoh, the Resident Pastor, Shepherd House Assembly International, Jos further hinted that pornography and masturbation could affect the brain and impede productivity. “Those twin evils could hurt the brain and impede productivity because of the cumulative negative effects of addiction to them,” he stated on Sunday in Jos, during a sermon at the Youth Conference of the Church.
In the sermon titled: ‘Dealing with Forces of Addiction’, he noted that a high percentage of youths suffer addiction mostly to pornography and masturbation.
“Research has shown that more than 50 per cent of youths are addicted to pornography, while 60 to 90 per cent of adolescent boys and 40 per cent of adolescent girls are addicted to masturbation.

“These addictions are sins against nature; the right hemisphere of the brain functions in facilitating creativity and inventions and a portion of the brain called ‘cingulate codex, is responsible for moral and ethical decisions. “So, when you feed your brain with masturbation and pornographic materials, it impedes your productivity and affects the efficiency of your brain which is designed to perform the task of creativity and invention,’’ he explained.
According to him, he said those battling the habit should not suffer alone as they need divine intervention to see them through.
“Addicts of masturbation must admit that they cannot overcome their battles alone. They must accept that it is only possible with the divine intervention of God.

“It is important you avoid anything that triggers such addictions; these are things that you see and read that pollute your mind towards it like movies, magazines and places

“You must renew your mind and feed it with the word of God to fight addictive materials that have occupied the space of your mind.

“Addicts should also seek counsel from people of integrity, who will counsel them and monitor them through their recovery process,’’ he said.
He said that addictions could also enslave a man, put him in bondage and regulate the lifestyle of the affected person or persons, which could subjugate potentialities. The clergy, who defined addiction as a repeated habit which becomes a lifestyle, mentioned other negative addictions to include the internet, food, s3x, alcohol, amongst others. Sen. Ita Enang, the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), disclosed this on Friday in Abuja, while briefing State House correspondents.

According to him, the bills signed into law are: Prevention of Crime Amendment Act,‎ 2016; The National Crop Varieties and Livestock Breeds (Registration) Amendment Act‎, 2016.

Others were: Telecommunications and Postal Offences Amendment Act,‎ 2016; The National Agricultural Land Development Authority Amendment Act‎ 2016; The Produce Enforcement of Export Standards Amendment Act‎ 2016.

Also signed by the President were: The Agricultural and Rural Management ‎Training Institute Amendment Act‎ 2016; Bee Import Control and Management Amendment Act‎ 2016, and Water Resources Amendment Act‎ 2016‎.

Enang said that the President expressed appreciation to leadership and membership of National Assembly, “for the great work they did in considering the bills and the details that have gone in to consider the bills‎.

“Mr President considers the act as very vital to the present administration and in consonant with ‎All Progressive Congress’s agenda and thanked the National Assembly.’’

He said the president also directed that Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and all government functionaries to always participate actively and make inputs when new bills were being considered.

Enang commended the president for assenting the eight bills at a time, saying “this is unprecedented because this is the very first time in this administration that eight bills are forwarded to him at a go for assent.

“In all my years in the National Assembly except for the 46 bills which were passed a day to the end of that administration, no such number of bills had been passed and forwarded at once ‎to the president for assent and no such number of bills had been assented to, at a record time.

I also consider it a record, that bills have been passed on various sector‎ and in giving assent to the bill, it did not lead to rancour or disputation as to what should be and what should not be.

This shows that the executive and the legislature are working together because the ministers attended every hearing that was called in respect of the bills,” Enang said.

The House of Reps has defended its decision to buy exotic cars for its 360 members at a period the country’s economy is in recession and many Nigerians are struggling to feed.

It said lawmakers must have a means of mobility while carrying out oversight duties over Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government.

The House will spend at least N3.6bn for the luxury vehicles.

The exclusive report by Punch indicated that the firm had already delivered 28 units of Peugeot 508 series to members in the first batch of 50 cars.

A total of 360 units of the exotic automobile would have been delivered by January 2017.

The Deputy Chairman, Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Jonathan Gaza, while defending the procurement of the cars on Thursday, said recession would not stop lawmakers from working.

He argued that in a recession, both the executive and legislative arms of government were expected to work even harder to find urgent solutions to challenges facing the country.
Gaza noted that while working during recession, members were not expected to trek to the premises of the MDAs for oversight duties.

But the usual practice is that lawmakers go on oversight functions together in a bus.

In an official statement by the vice president’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, while speaking at the Apostolic Coalition Summit in Lagos at the weekend, VP Yemi Osinbajo revealed that the 200,000 unemployed graduates selected in the first batch of the N-power Social Investment Programme will start working in two weeks.

“At the moment close to a million graduates have registered on the volunteered scheme and we should be doing the first 200,000 in the next 14 days or so, we should be able to get started with the first 200,000 across the country,” the statement read.
According to TheCable News, the vice president said as a stop gap measure, the Buhari administration is engaged in direct creation of jobs, including the plan to create 500,000 jobs for unemployed graduates.
He also explained that efforts are also being made to ensure that jobs are provided across the country. “Already 200,000 unemployed Nigerians have been selected, including 150,000 who would teach and serve in their communities,” the statement read.

“The balance is made up of 30,000 who would serve as Agric Extension Workers and 20,000 who would serve as public health workers.

“Each of the unemployed graduates would get a N30,000 monthly stipend, and also get an electronic tablet that would be packaged with several applications that would train and empower the participants,” Laolu quoted the VP as saying.
Osinbajo said N-Power scheme was launched as a volunteer programme “to create temporary opportunities for young graduates, to at least be doing something and many of them would be volunteer teachers, health officials and extension workers, who will earn a stipend.”
He said the participants would also have a device “and that device has a lot of training brochures, different forms of training brochures and it’s also a device that enables them to be able to, on a continuous basis, learn different things, some code-writing, some entrepreneurial skills.

“There are lot of varieties of material that can be learned on the device. The device is also a means of communicating with them wherever they may be in the country.”

FG Approves 8 New Universities Across Nigeria (See Names)

The Federal Government has approved eight new universities across the country. The approval was granted on Wednesday during a meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, which held at the council chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Minister of State for Education, Anthony Onwuka, who briefed State House correspondents, said the ministry “submitted a memo seeking approval for eight private universities after recommendation by the NUC”.

The names of the eight approved universities are:

Anchor University, Ayobo, Lagos;
Arthur Jarvis Akpabuyo University, Calabar, Cross River;
Clifford University, Owerinta, Abia;
Coal City University, Enugu;
Crown Hill University, Kwara;
Dominican University, Ibadan, Oyo;
Kola Daisy University, Ibadan;
Legacy University, Okija, Anambra State.
The minister said the new universities were given three years provisional license. He also said all the new universities are to be mentored by older ones.


He said Anchor University will be mentored by the University of Lagos, Jarvis University by the University of Calabar and Clifford University by the University of Agriculture, Umudike.

Coal city University will be mentored by the University of Nigeria Nsukka; Crown Hill University by the University of Ilorin; while the two new universities in Oyo State, Kola Daisy and Dominican universities, will be mentored by the University of Ibadan.

Legacy University, Okija, will be mentored by the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
