Phones / Top 5 Android P Features by NaijaTechJuice(m): 11:37am On May 09, 2018
The newest addition to the Android OS; Android P as been unveiled and it is the most intuitive yet. With several visual UI changes, new navigation gestures and AI, Android P is definitely the real deal.

Here are the top 5 features of the new OS;

Digital Well-being

Google's new Digital Well-being on Android P is a number of new clean features that will help you use your phones less. Google recognises the fact that users these days gets fixated on their smartphones and hardly do away with them and it is trying to address that. So, how is Google planning to achieve this you may ask!. Well, here is how;

First; is the new "Dashboard," screen, giving you at-a-glance details on how much time you've spent on which apps, how many times you've unlocked your phone, and how many notifications you've had pop up. Per-app details are also available, and developers will be able to implement these in their apps.

Then you have "App Timer" and "Wind Down". For App timer, you tell it how much time you wish to spend on a particular app within the day, and the software will nudge you if that limit is reached. That app's icon will remain grayed out for the rest of the day. The gray colour is to remind you that you shouldn't use the app anymore for that day, even though you still can.

Wind Down, however is one that turns the screen to black and white at a predefined time at night. Since black-and-white images are less stimulating for the brain, the best option will be to put the phone away... Tada!

Lastly is the new Do-not-Disturb mode. This is a neat feature that will allow you filter or mute notifications. One cool way to enable it now is just by placing your smartphone face down on a table.

"App Actions" and "Slices"

These are new features introduced to help with better mobile app integration, especially between third-party apps and Search or Google Assistant. The "Actions" feature are like shortcuts that let a user quickly access a deeper function of an app with the touch of a button or a voice command. This can be like calling a Lyft ride home or booking a movie ticket for cinemas.

Google says Actions can be created for any third-party app, and they’ll live in Android P’s search bar, in the Play Store, within Assistant, and in a customizable fashion on your home screen.

Slices, however, are UI designs from third-party apps that will exist, for now, only within the Android P search bar when you go looking for an action like that Lyft ride home. In this case, Android will surface the Lyft icon and the design of the actual app, and not just a mediation of it by way of the OS. This new integration system will make switching between apps less frequent, a task which can be overwhelming at times.

New Navigation Gestures

Google has ditched the traditional navigation soft-keys on Android P,.. well, not entirely. For instance, the Back and Home buttons still appear when you are in any app while the Home button now doubles as a slider for scrolling through recent apps.

The somewhat removal of the softkeys means a shift to new gesture movements to navigate through your device, much like what we saw with the iPhone X from Apple. Below is a few commands for Android P new gestures;

Tap: go to home screen
Long press: launch Google Assistant
Half swipe up: go to overview screen
Full swipe up: go to app drawer
Slide to right: scroll through recent apps
Back button: go back (only appears inside apps)

This will take a little time to get used when Android P finally makes its way to a number of Android Smartphones later this year.

"Adaptive Battery"

Google brings a new AI feature to Android's battery management system called “Adaptive Battery" on Android P. The new AI will monitor your phone’s battery consumption and will shut down apps running in the background that you haven’t touched for a while. It will also adjust your phone’s brightness based on your habits.

Project "Treble"

Well, this is not exactly a feature on the Android P but a project to get updates - starting with Android P - faster to third-party smartphones, other than the Pixel. Treble is a fundamental rearchitecting of how Android is built and customized. The theory goes that the core features of Android could be updated and the skin on top would be kept separate, speeding up updates.

The other theory is that by working with chipmakers, like Qualcomm, earlier in the development process, Google could help actual phone manufacturers release their updates faster.

Phones / The LG G7 Thinq: Five (5) New Features Of Lg's Flagship Smartphone by NaijaTechJuice(m): 7:32pm On May 07, 2018
The recently launched flagship phone from LG; the LG G7 ThinQ has been getting mixed reviews across the web but most of those have been positive. The device in itself looks a lot like The V30 and also follows in the footsteps of most Android flagships this year with the iPhone X-type notch display.

While this is the case for its design, the LG G7 ThinQ excels in other areas with several new features. I'll take you through five (5) of those new features in this post;

Super Bright Display

LG opted for an IPS display over an OLED on the G7 which is quite surprising. But the 6.1 QHD+ LCD display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, amongst other things, is capable of achieving 1000 nits max brightness thanks to the 'Super Bright' display tech. This will particularly make outdoor usage much more productive for people who operate their smartphones under bright sunlight.

Google Lens

The LG G7 ThinQ is the first to utilize its inbuilt camera for Google Lens . This is an AI feature that combines the Google Assistant and Google Photos to identify objects such as books, animals, sights and plants which is been pointed at. You can also get information for such objects on the go.

Standalone AI button

On the left side and just below the volume buttons of the LG G7 ThinQ is a new AI button that can be triggered to activate Google Assistant. Double tapping of the button lets you activate Google lens while long pressing and holding prompts a kind of "walkie talkie" feature which allows for a longer interaction with the bot. The microphone comes with a new voice recognition feature that can listen to your voice commands from five meters away. Sadly though, this button cannot be remapped for another use.

3D sound with DTS:X

The speaker on the LG G7 ThinQ can achieve 3D sounds with the new DTS:X tech which makes virtual surround sound come alive on compatible headphones for all types of contents be it audio or video. In addition, the device has been fitted with a single Boom Box speaker which boosts audio quality by using every bit of spare space in the phone as a resonance chamber to create a kind of woofer effect. This is 10 times more than what some flagship smartphones offer right now.

AI Camera upgrades

LG is big on cameras as we have witnessed with the V30S and V30 in the past. The LG G7 ThinQ follows that footprint as well. According to the company, the camera will be able to automatically detect and optimise its settings for 19 different shooting modes. These include AI settings for everything from food and pets, to nature and close-up shots.

There is also a Super Bright Camera mode which can be used in low-light conditions to ensure pictures taken appear crisp and sharp.

Phones / Nigeria Customer Care Services. Share Your Experiences! by NaijaTechJuice(m): 10:50pm On May 05, 2018
Nigeria customer care operators are there to provide immediate solutions to customer problems.

While this is the case, the user experience reported by 80% callers are appalling especially when it comes to providing lasting solutions to issues faced by customers.

Some customers care personnels even tend to speak rudely to customers when they can't provide a definite answer or solutions, while others will blame it on 'system upgrade'. It's 2018 and the situation hasn't changed

Share your experiences with customer care personnels and service providers on this thread!

The US claimed both companies are pushing out spy messages to iraq. But this will also affect the CHINESE companies in a way due to the recent trade war between both countries.

My cousin did her internship at SON, and what she said about that organization was so heartbreaking... They are doing absolutely nothing there....

It's quite certain they do nothing. We all see the substandard products that have saturated the Nigerian market. So much so that most of them even have the SON labels on them
Webmasters / Re: How To Run A Blog Easily Without Having A Computer by NaijaTechJuice(m): 5:42pm On Jun 26, 2017
NaijaTechGuy:
For the past couple of months, I've been publishing posts from my phone,design my blog from my phone and many other things. I find it generally easy posting from my phone as posting on my computer is only necessary if I need to add some advanced modifications to my post.
There are a couple of Android apps that'll help you blog comfortably without having to use a computer.

1. Bloggeroid
This is a third-party blogger app but it's the best available on Playstore. It lets you place images in any part of your post easily unlike the official blogger app that places the image at the bottom of the post. You can also modify your posts with html tags and shortcodes as well.

2. Quoda
If you're looking for an app to redesign your blog,Quoda is the very best code editor. You can search for a particular line of code and modify as many things as you want easily. I've used it a couple of times in redesigning my blog. The current design on my blog was edited and arranged through Quoda but you have to be pretty good with HTML/XML to use it.

3. Your Email Client. (Gmail, AOL)
A Blogger always has to reply emails and that's where your Email comes in. You can easily reply emails from your smartphone without having to touch a computer. AOL mail adds a touch of professionalism to your emails. It requires you to create a separate email address. Unlike my Gmail address (naijatechguy@gmail.com), my AOL account is naijatechguy@technologist.com. It's looks quite professional and guess what? it's free.

4 . Puffin Browser
Puffin is one of the fastest and user friendly browsers on Google Play. One thing I love about the browser is its speed. It's ideal for blogging as it lets you view both the desktop version of your site and the mobile version. This will come in handy when you're designing your blog.

5. SwiftKey Keyboard
SwiftKey is one of the best keyboards on Google Play. It predicts the next text you'll write properly and it'll come in handy when you're writing blog posts. The fun part of it is that it'll take you less time to type with SwiftKey keyboard than other ones. So If you need swift posting. Use SwiftKey.

6. Pixabay
Pixabay is the hub of free images that are free from copyright. You can most load images for your blog post from the app and use it how you want as they are totally free to use on any blog or vlog

7. Picture Resizer
Sometimes you may get an image and it's size is almost 2MB and it'll not be ideal to post any image with such size. Although in most cases, Gzip compression helps to reduce the image size, you can still reduce it to how you want. It'll also help you reduce the size of your blog logo and set the dimensions
.
8. Social Media Apps
All your social media apps and its management tools should be in your device. Staying connected to your audience is the best thing to do for any serious minded blogger

Well, You are right on most of these. But bloggeroid is not quite effective for posting on blogs, especially if you want to add stuffs like jump breaks or want to edit a post from draft. It also has quirks when adding labels.

Puffin is a fast browser like you mentioned but it is not fluid and still needs alot of work if you want to use it mostly for publishing blog post.

You don't really need a third party app for picture resizing but if you require an all-in-app for photos, i suggest you go with Picsart.

I use My PC almost all the time to publish post on my blog http://naijatechjuice..com. But it is better to use a tablet in place of your smartphone.

SON deserves it more. They are the most useless organization in this country. I don't even know what they claim to be standardizing when everything in the market is fake. undecided
