Just realised I haven't posted anything from my region,I am from Somaliland and these are a variety of our dances https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0fcS3y0W5w Also I'd really like to see other's cultures so please post. |
*Kails*:I'm glad you like it. It's originally a Ogaaden clan folk dance that has now been given more modern sounds. This is the traditional way it is performed. what ya think? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbHxOtHmjhA Dhaanto is a beautiful dance especially if you see the authentic dance. I opened another thread a couple of days ago https://www.nairaland.com/1338418/tell-me-culture-what-common where I posted some other somali dances and wanted to see other's also but unfortunately haven't got to see other dances yet. Take a look and I'll try to find some other singer's for you. were you thinking of more traditional songs or modern music? |
OMG! They are some stunning people and their country is beautiful too. Any cultural pics or info? |
pleep: Men put women down and women put men down... in any race, its just a fact of life. So on that count the OP has the right to talk about his nationality specifically, especially since he is not dealing with othersI totally get your point but there is a way of wording a statement. I mean had he said "why do Nigerian women feel the need to wear make up and fake hair, they are beautiful regardless " I would have understood however the fact that he chose the one he chose then he said that it is due to insecurity is what got me. I realise that genders put eachother down in all races however it's mainly black men that put black women down for their looks. Black women face a lot of judgement from the rest of their world anyway when it comes to their looks so they don't need it from their black men also, y'know what I mean? or do you actually agree with his statement also? |

pleep: ^ its not just nigerian girls, but black girls in generalI realise and I agree but because he specified only to Nigerian girls in the title, I replied with that. Unfortunately a lot of Black men in general also put their women down which is a real shame to be honest. |
Aringarosa: Wow That's nice!I hope you're able to visit Hargeysa when you have the chance, thats my home town so let me know what you think if you do yes Djibouti was part of Somalia just like Somaliland and Ogadenia but each were colonised by a different nation. Djibouti-France, Somaliland-British ,Somalia-Italy And of course Ogadenia is still part of Ethipopia.Having said that they have always had their own identity throughout. How are you finding it over there in Ethiopia? |
*Kails*:Those are exactly the same reasons I love about those tribes too. *Kails*:Would it possible for you to link please, i'm still trying to figure out the forum, lol! |
Aringarosa: I have got loads of pics, but i can't upload now, cuz I'm using my phone. I'll upload when i get back to addis. I did not just turn up here, i work for an NGO in Ethiopia, and I'm on a short vacation, so I'm using the opportunity to visit interesting places in Ethiopia. I have been to the danakil depression in afar, i have visited Lallibella and now I'm doing the south of Ethiopia. That's really interesting, wish you the best. I'm from Somaliland, and you? |
to the OP, Why the hell would you open a whole thread to just disrespect your Nigerian women? Do they not include your mother, sister's, daughter's and nieces?? Are Nigerian women the only nationality to wear fake hair and make up? You mentioned that this is due to insecurity and inferiority complex but do you not think that these ideas and statement's your making contribute to that? Think before you post, bro |
odumchi: Yes, there is.Thanks for the reply. I think the one I had in mind has now been banned from the forum however his posts are still there in a thread I created few days back. https://www.nairaland.com/1338418/tell-me-culture-what-common For future reference What would I need to do if he were to return which I think he might? |
killayut: Ain't the Yorubas, Hausas and Igbos of Nigeria stuck to their culture ? And who says the Massai do not have Westernized people ? I am even sure they are more Westernized in average than Yoruba .Is there somewhere on the forum I can see more of the culture of the tribes you mentioned like their cultural dances, traditional wear etc. Iv not been on the forum long and not finding it easy to understand how to find the things i'm looking for. Thanks in advance. |
Aringarosa: Exactly! That is so cool. do you have pics? I'd love to see them so please upload. Also did you just turn up at their village or did you have a link there first? Just curious.. |
*Kails*:Me too definately! I'm hoping to go see the Afar very soon actually because My hubby is from Djibouti and we were hoping to spend some time in a Afar village when we go back to visit his family. Very excited!. Hopefully you'll get to see them soon too .Can you name me some other's that interest you? I'd like to google them incase there are some you know that I don't ![]() |
side eye look!! |
Really interesting, thanks for answering my questions so graciously, appreciate it! |
Zhul-fiqar:That's really interesting. So instead of ascribing to Sunnism ( sorry never heard that before)is there a particular madhab or school of thought that they consider themselves? Do most people not distinguish themselves as one thing or another do they prefer to just say Muslim. I hope I'm not asking too many questions its just that I am fascinated about it all. BTW Are you Shi'i yourself? |
Zhul-fiqar:Wow that is something I definately did not know. So are there more Shia's than Sunni's in Nigeria? |
I personally love The Maasai tribe in Kenya and Tanzania. I love the fact that they have manintained so much of there culture despite so much interference from outsiders. They are one of the few tribes in Africa that are so well recognised around the world and yet so small in number. I think that's amazing. |
so is Shia Islam prominent in Nigeria? |
wow I see alot of ignorance. For a person to be ignorant of their religion yet be so passionate about it is dangerous hence the state of the ummah today. What is a Salafi/wahabi? enlighten me. |
If you were to recommend a nigerian dish for me to try what would you suggest? My husband and I tried a pasta dish that I was told was nigerian once and I quite liked it, but please something that is easy to make. |
tpia@:So finding common ground between our cultures holds back nigerians?! in what way exactly? Also I have seen threads talking about bringing nigerians of different culture and tribes together but none with East Africa and west Africa, if there are I'd like you to point me in the right direction please |
Madawaki01: •did you manage to find the correct video? |
I agree with the above poster, I would love to know AA better. Also is there a way of banning a member from a particular thread ? Thanks in advance. |
