Four fake naval personnel and a soldier were weekend arrested by the Lagos State Police command for alleged armed robbery.
The suspects who were all in military attire were arrested by youths at Ilado area of Lagos State while they were fleeing in a canoe after escaping from police detention and handed over to Ilado Police post, near the Ajakoyi Beach.
Handed over to SARS
They were later handed over to the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja.
A resident, Wasiu Omojola, who narrated the incident to Vanguard said: “We are predominantly fishermen but some of us do oil business. The military personnel used to come around to extort money from us daily. We didn’t even know that they were fake officers. They would come in military uniform. Their leader whom we later realized is an Army Sergeant would dress as an Army Commander. He would gather us and warn that the Army High Command had sent him on a special duty.

The Suspects
“He told us that his group was on joint military operation. He then instructed us to contribute N2 millon for his boss. We were able to raise N500,000. The following day, they prevented us from doing our job, so we had to contribute another N300,000.They still said it was not yet okay with them.”
Wasiu Omojola added: “I don’t know how one of us reported the development to Army authorities who said that they didn’t send any team for joint military patrol to our area. When we got the information, we then mobilized against the self- acclaimed joint military patrol.
Extortion and arrest
“When they arrived the following day to resume their extortion, we arrested them. They did not believe it when we took them to the Police. We were later informed by the same Police that the suspects escaped from their cell, so we mobilized again and gave them a hot chase. We later arrested them and brought them to SARS.”
Police sources said the Nigerian Army has confirmed that the man who claimed to be a Lieutenant is a Sergeant. “The Army has taken him for court-martial but we have written to the Army that after the trial, that the man should be brought back to the Police for proper prosecution,” he said.
Suspect speaks
One of the suspects simply identified as Oche, said: “Well, there is no job in the country. My friend who is an Army Sergeant brought the idea of going to collect money from those doing illegal oil businesses. The sergeant provided me with the uniform that I am putting on now. I don’t know about others. Sergeant is the one sharing our loot. I got N50,000 three times but I could not believe it when we were arrested.
“It is true, we escaped from Police cell. We broke through the window protectors. It was while we were escaping through the waterside that we were re-arrested and handed over to SARS.”
Commissioner of Police, Lagos State command, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said the suspects were rescued from the hands of the mob that attempted to lynch them. “They were robbing people of their belongings. The people were attempting to lynch them when the Police stormed the place and rescued them. The sum of N380,000 was recovered from the suspect.”

My sister Chioma Nkechi Daniel left Abuja to Lagos on November 14, 2015. Ever since then her phones has been switched off, all efforts to locate her whereabouts proved unsuccessful. His name is Bashir Suleiman, he's a Mai-barrow and a proud one at that. I was privileged to have him gather my groceries and produce for me as I shopped in the market today.
First of all he was very well dressed with his clothes well ironed as if he was going to a proper office work and I was told by the fruit seller who saw my initial surprise when Bashir approached me that it was his custom to dress well daily to his Mai-barrow job. It got even more interesting when I caught a whiff of his "perfume" and noticed his socked feet in a pair of well polished sandals��. Other barrow pushers approached me but with my curiosity already piqued and biased towards Bashir, I felt it an honor to have him gather my stuff for today.
Next, he had very good communication skills, his grammar may not have been ivy-league standard, but we communicated very easily while he helped bridge the gap between my Hausa language spattering and my needful communication in same language with my customers who spoke little or no English.
Bashir was very much involved in every bit of my shopping making sure I wasn't cheated and my change was properly counted out and given to me.
Bashir also showed me the best places I didn't even know existed in the market to buy the freshest produce at competitive prices.
Bashir was attentive, involved, sharp, smart, fast and market savvy too.
Whilst we were shopping, Bashir got as many as 3 different phone calls from customers like me who were en route the market and wanted him on standby for them. One told him where to wait for her while the other told him she was prepared to wait till he was free to serve her since he was currently engaged.
Bashir did his job with a great attitude and a smile, he was polite and courteous yet humble and ready to serve.
At the end, I had to give Bashir much more than I have ever given a Mai-barrow( and believe me I always tip them generously) because Bashir beat all stereotypes and made my life much easier today.
Of course I left with Bashir's phone number decisively saved in my phone book. People like Bashir have further strengthened my belief that the future generation of our country can and will excel and be better than the past generations. Tomorrow we may just see a registered company--Bashir Uber-Mai-barrow Ltd, with clean, well dressed and courteous service boys...making shoppers' lives easier, earning good money, even paying taxes to the government and contributing their quota to the system versus the modern day entrenchment of criminality by the teeming unemployable youth that are not ready to work yet maraud the society today.
Now this is what I call, progress, long sightedness, wisdom and imminent vital prosperity. Let's all join hands and make the skies of these young men a stepping stone by encouraging them in whatever ways possible.

Journalists were sent out of court during a seating at a state high court in Ede, Osun state yesterday, Thursday November 19th. A judge seating barred the journalists in the courtroom from covering the divorce case of billionaire Adedeji Adeleke, the father of Nigerian pop star Davido.

The judge, Justice A. O. Oguntade had on Monday, November 16, prevented journalists who were present at the court by chasing them out of the court room. He repeated the same deed on Thursday.

On entering the court, Oguntade said, “Journalists present in this court should go out. I repeat, journalists present in this court should go out now.”


Armed policemen then respectfully ushered the journalists out of the courtroom.

The court say the parties involved in the divorce case do not want publicity of the matter.

Davido’s father Mr. Deji tried his hands on marriage again few years ago after the death of his first wife, Dr. Vero Adeleke. He married one Teju Adeleke, who has never been seen with him at any event. The childless marriage met a dead end less than 3 years after their marriage. It was gathered that, both Deji and Teju tried their possible best to make the marriage work but all was an effort in futility.

The robber and his gang came to rob a house on Road 53, but were unsuccessful as armed guards opened fire.

One escaped with bullet wounds while this one was caught hiding inside a drainage.

Information just reaching us from Aba is that the entire Enyimba city is locked down as Banks, Schools and all markets in the city are shut following a mega protest against the continued illegal detention of the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The massive crowd numbering possibly over a million are chanting Biafra solidarity songs marching from various directions: Ariaria, Osisioma, Ngwa Road and Ala Ojii. The female OAP, Joyce Vobis called the pastor using a fake name, Nancy to ask for spiritual guidance an counselling. The pastor confirms that the name of his church is 'Breast and Honey Harvest Church'. He said he relocated from Nigeria to answer the 'call of the lord'.

The choice of the name of the church is because, according to the pastor, “The spirit lies in the breast of a lady… the more you suck the breast the more you get the fulfilling of the Lord.”

Sometimes the IUD can be expelled and a woman has to check each month after her period with her finger if she can still feel the threads of the IUD. Other side effects can include abnormal bleeding and cramps, but this usually only occurs during and immediately after insertion.
