geebengs: Big thanks to you wavemaster. I'm going to research more on the subject. At least i now have an understanding of what VHDL is. Thanks a lot.VHDL, or VHSIC (very high speed integrated circuit) hardware description language is a firmware language used to design digital systems. You don't use it to model what you design, you use it to design digital and mixed signal systems. There are several languages you can use in, note I did not say to, designing embedded sys, and VHDL is one powerful one for the digital and mixed signal part of yur design. You write your vhdl and a synthesizer spits out the circuit. Xilinx, altera, synplify and modelsim all let you simulate your design, (with xilinx's somewhat new isim eliminating the need for modelsim, although a lot of old timers are stuck on modelsim from my observation) and Xilinx lets you actually synthesize. Synplify is worth the investment since it's device independent, but only if you intend to use different devices. Xilinx appears to be the king with their ever growing Spartan family. If you are familiar with verilog, VHDL is its cooler and more popular sibling. |
Otuabaroku: ^^^ I'm not picking on the guy at all. I'm not saying that I have the monopoly of knowledge in terms of embedded systems. The example i gave is to buttress the need for design. That is what separate you from the engineer you claim to be to a layman who can also read the manual of those materials you used and do the same.As a matter of fact, I'm very knowledgeable about what I wrote. I don't speak about what I don't know, and I have no qualms saying I don't know what I don't. That's the only way to learn. In fact, I have done a wireless transceiver that's, at the core, similar to what she or he is describing. I did not interface with an RS232 on that, but I've written both the code and testbench for rs232. Don't get smart by half... The fact that the most complex embedded system may essentially be a bunch, if several millions can be called a bunch, of logic gates does not give someone who knows his onion the impetus to say his or her design is merely a processor of logic gates. That's like me saying a new baby is an embodiment of cells. Really? Either you don't know what you are saying or you are doing the same thing you accused the poster of: lack of detail. I don't have any desire to engage in a slugfest with you. But it doesn't mean I won't call you out when you are trying to rain on someone's parade. There's a difference constructive criticsm and vile condemnation. |
Dondbuzor: Let's discuss embedded systems. Let all computer engineers in dis forum, let's come out and discuss on d projects we have designed, our challenges and success.Hi there, did you do this for a school project, or a potential business, or on the job? I have done embedded sys to control: radars, vending machine, security sys, and more, both in school and on the job. I'm currently looking to go solo once I get some logistics in place. I once needed to interface with an hyper terminal and had quiite a number of hiccups, having never done it. Otuabaroku, Why are you intent on killing this person's spirit? This is why Nigeria may never progress. He never said he was the king of Embedded Sys. He just wanted to share. I don't see why he should post the details of his design here. Or do you want to lift it? An embedded sys that processes and, or, XOR, xnor, nor, NAND? Laughable considering that you are picking on another person if that's your best embedded sys experience. So have several third year electrical and computer engnrn students, so now what? Stop being a meanie! |
webcalculator: I hav googled these questions but i need a nigerian description because what i got were not convincing enough. i am new to all these thingy. i need an advise on weather to learn programming or webdesign. While good programming skills will help you in building a robust and dynamic website, you can design websites with no programming skill or just basic html. The one you learn first, or at all, depends on what you want to do. Do you want to design websites ONLY? Then learn web designing. There are tons of design tools out there that you can use that lets you drag and drop your way to a decent and basic website with a wysiwyg/wireframe tool. If, on the other hand, you want to design systems/applications other than websites, then you want to learn programming. But there are different channels you can follow as a programmer. Find out what you want to do and then figure out the programming skills you need. Don't follow the money trail. Find your passion and follow that instead. Also, there is nothing like a Nigerian answer, unless you mean that you want Nigerians' opinions. It is what it is, and Google might just be your best friend after all. |
x Jayson x: I personally believe it's better of in printed form. Almost all published Bibles you see have been prayed upon/blessed by strong Men of God. When i was a catholic, it "is" advisable that anything we bought from church such as rosary, simple prayer book, bibles, etc should be prayed/blessed by the Priests/Reverend Fathers before you use them. Why i quoted the word is, is because it's still practiced up till date and i also vividly recall reading and hearing stories of how bibles saved Christians from witches and accidents but can it be said of an iPad?And what stops anyone from blessing an iPad? Do you think God will not sanctify it because it is an iPad? I wouldn't even ask why you think a man of God has better access to God than you possibly can. According to my bible, the only intermediary to God is Christ. I think you are more concerned about how it looks to the church members who can not afford an iPad than you are of, say, the potential distractions. To that, and in the spirit of Bible, I say Prov 14:23, Eccles. 3:13, Jude 1:16. If you allow yourself to be oppressed by another's possessions, take heed that you don't remain indigent. As a man thinketh, so is he. Trust me, I know Nigerians, I know there's a chance that that pastor's goal was effizy. People need to stop getting excited over material things. |
obowunmi: Many women in Nigeria want to just marry --- like just the OP, she knew darn well that she was marrying a cheater. But she ignored all the glaring signs --- these women don't realize these types of problems, until years in marriage. Remember the culture in Nigeria is if you're a woman and not married, you are useless.I'm always delighted to read men with this mindset. It reinforces my belief that there are real men out there that accept their responsibilities, whether or not they make mistakes too. It shows that some men will teach their sons and daughters responsibility. Women who want to get married and be a Mrs. more than they want to enjoy true companionship, which does have its trying times, bring themselves unnecessary problem, if not STD or murder. But do you blame them? Some, as you noted, grew seeing how things went in their homes and saw it as the norm. They will teach their children to continue the cycle of abuse. And when women blame "small girls for taking their husbands", you wonder if they are married to puppets that they find it easier to blame the other women who, in some cases, may not even know about the wife. Now, I'm not in any way implying that that's the poster's story. In fact, I commend her for willing to work at her marriage. I hope he changes before something irreversible happens. Not two situations are the same, but these I would ask myself in her shoes: 1) do you think you are valuable enough to be respected by your husband, children and the girlfriends? 2) are you ready to deal with the possible contraction of a deadly STD? 3) do you want to raise your daughters that they don't have to settle for a lifetime of loneliness and dejection just as long as they get the Mrs. title? 4) do you want to raise your boys to cherish women or treat them as objects created to satisfy their urge? 5) do you deserve true happiness? 6) do you think you'll be happier and a better parent if you got out of this satanic situation? Or do you truly think what you have now is a marriage? harakiri: What if a man decides to marry several wives according to the customs of his people and have several concubines, would he called a "cheater"? Hmmm? Lolit's not a crime if all the women are willing. You'll be shocked to know that there are women who are open to polygyny as there are men who don't mind their wives having side helpers if you looked. But why not be upfront about your penchant for variety upfront? |
x Jayson x: I totally agree with you threadstarter. I personally believe a real Man of God is supposed to use his "Holy Bible" to pray/preach and should never use any form of gadget to do like wise. But it doesn't have to be in print form to be Holy now, does it? I see the point about possible distractions, but there is also an argument for ease of navigation and access to a plethora of resources from an electronic device. Driving a car may cause a fatal accident; yet, we drive. Let's not focus on nonissues when there are more important things going on around us. |
Tadup: Yes. Muhammad(S.A.W) is the true last messenger of Allah . You christians claimed that jesus died for you guys but my question is can you die for jesus? This is how suicide bombing starts. Some reveled, supposed to be more knowledgeable person claims to love God so much to want to die for God. Nothing wrong with that really if you are fed up with your life, but why do they always take unwilling passengers on their sick journey? So what if someone calls your prophet names you disagree with? I would think the saner recourse is to either refute it or say the same about the person's faith. Not prove them right by exhibiting the evil ways you are accused of. All these sick extremists on both sides! Especially on the Muslim side. And this talk about religion of peace. Certainly not as it is practiced around the world. What peace loving person kills someone for either not believing what he believes or speaking against it? Sounds to me as a scheme to prevent people from boldly talking about the inconsistencies, archaic and anti-others in the religion. After all, if people can talk about it, there is a chance that as more get educated, they'll deviate from the religion or do away with its vices. God wouldn't need mere mortals to kill for him if he were bloodthirsty!!! |
sandy0000: I am using the code below to insert adsense code into my joomla modules. The ctr for these is so good. I would like to edit the code to display 2 more ads on the 8th and 12th count. Please how can I insert additional banners :<?php $counter++; if ($counter == 8 ) { <tr><td> Adsense Code </td></tr> } Elseif ($counter == 12 ) { <tr><td> Adsense Code </td></tr> } Else { Default action } ?> I didn't test the above so pls do. |
Zinedu: Please House can anyone help me with codes to write a simple Login form using Vb.net,where i can deny non-registered user to gain access to the main program.any contribution will be highly appreciated.Thanks.Goal: write a simple login form (I'm assuming you don't have the form yet. How would you achieve this "manually" (pseudo code)? 1) present a form to a user a) add a form b) add controls (a username field, a password field, and a submit button. Add a clear button if the spirit leads you) For good practice, rename controls to make sense to you. E.g, btnflyingboat for a button that lets you get to your flying boat 2) add event handlers for each control that you need to trigger an action. These are the "messenger on demand"s I'm guessing this is only going to be the submit button unless you want to have validators tied to every control. Unnecessary processing in my opinion. 3) remember to include error messages so people know what's going on when their attempt at log in fails. The above is what you'll do irrespective of the language. Do you want log in over a server? If so, you need more than vb.net. For vb.net, I'll go with gadoonline's. I'll also add "option explicit" at the very top to prevent mixing up variables. Especially if you are new to vb.net or writing several lines of code. I'll tweak as follows (note that this goes in the submit button's click event... a) you can get to the code editor by double clicking on the controls on the form) Dim strUname as stringIf, on the other hand, you want to pass credentials from a db or table, you want to: 1) pull all of the user name and password combo and loop through, or 2) query the table for the record set with the combo entered 2 makes more sense especially for a large database. Let's know how it goes. Good Luck! |
Nation of consumers. As you may know, Nigerians are major consumers of technology products, as with any other product. Yet, Nigeria is not known to invent anything. Isn't this bizarre? Individually across the globe, we are trailblazers. But why can't we bring our individual knowledge together to develop something of global standard, and with little to no dependence on imported products/property? This has been bothering me for a while. Do you have advanced skill in any of the following areas and will like to contribute to the development of technology in Nigeria? Graphic Design Problem Solving - using these languages: c#, c++, java, JavaScript, php Hardware Design/circuit design Database - administration, management, design, optimization.... How do you intend to attract the experts you don't know of if access to your community is by invitation only? |
Not unless I have enough money to cover all of my business and personal expenses and any unforeseeable emergency for at least 6 months. The passion and optimism is great but a little bit of realism is also crucial. Think it through. You might be able to do both simultaneously. |
The way adaure speaks has nothing to do with the fact that she studied mass comm.Speaking and pronouncing your words well is different from speaking with an american accent. You mentioned shes been in the u.s for like 10years and so she picked up the accent.Dan Foster is a radio broadcaster and has been in Nigeria for over 10years now, but he still speaks with his american accent.Because he grew up speaking like that.I believe Dan Foster moved to Nigeria around 2000, am I right? If I am, as I think I am, that's about 11 years ago. I would wager that he is at least 35 now. So he was an adult before he left. Adaure came here when she was much younger, and spent almost as long as she did in Nigeria in the US before relocating? Is it fair to condemn her for not sounding so Nigerian? Many times, Nigerians in Nigeria think Nigerians abroad speak with American accent when they really just lost their Nigerian accent. Adaure doesn't speak with an American accent, but I have not heard her present on TV sha? Speaking of Americans moving to Nigeria and losing their accents, I went to school (in Nigeria) with quite a few foreigners who moved to Nigeria in their preteen to teenage years. By the end of high school, most did not just lose their foreign accents, they spoke pidgin and Nigerian languages. A particular one in my class used to curse people out in the local language (transfer students or juniors who insulted her with the assumption that she couldn't understand). If we must compare, let's compare apples to apples. The Don Foster analogy doesn't cut it. |
In terms of beauty, one man's acid is another man's antacid. I happen to think Bimbo Akintola is pretty. Genevieve is pretty too (below is the pic of her that I think reveals her face best), but I think Bimbo is prettier. I also don't see the striking prettiness in Genny that is talked about, but she has star-power and good PR. She has, I am not going to say she has more class, but she has a way of keeping to herself that makes the media/public more intrigued. That is how to stay relevant in the entertainment industry: keep them yearning for more (more information, more dirt, more rumor, more clarification, ). Bimbo Akintola is pretty, but she doesn't fit the Western definition of attractive size as much as Genny does, and we all know more people go with Western everything. Genny is slimmer, but the new Bimbo is slimmer than the old Bimbo. (below is her current FB profile pic) Face wise, Bimbo is prettier. English diction wise, Bimbo is better, and it's probably owing to her pedigree (The Akintola in her. Of course I am speculating here). Star-power wise, Genny it is. Stage presence wise, Bimbo. Acting wise, Bimbo. Give Bimbo a mini-role in a movie, and she will still stand out. Case in point, Keeping Faith. She was supposed to be the friend with practically nothing going for her, but she stood out! That's a star right there. Let's face it, if she had an English name, she would have gone places more than she has. Someone in the earlier post even inferred that by saying "how can you compare a Bimbo to a Genny. Look at the names sef" or something to that effect. Did you guys see Back to Life? Bimbo held her own even with Liz Benson in the movie. Her presence was equally felt. Could be the fact that she actually studied this Theater business, in a great school for that matter, long before Nollywood became what it is now. I think that's a sign that she has a passion for acting, and did not just waka dia because of fame or fortune. Did you not see Dangerous Twins? What I don't like in the Yoruba movies she acts in is that they tend to give her these "big-madam" roles. Almost like they are so in awe of her that they don't think of giving her challenging roles. But she delivers in Yoruba movies too, as she does in stage plays. Genny is a star! She's a smart business woman. She appears to have mastered the tricks to stay relevant. She has natural talent too, so with just a little bit more training, she might be in Bimbo's level acting wise. But she is an undeniable star. I think she can become irrelevant with time though if she doesn't work on her stage presence. Don't really have an opinion on her personality because we don't really know these people. So maybe she is likeable in person, she needs to bring that to life on stage too. Give us some fire! A good comparison of skills with Bimbo in the midst should include names like (A+ Listers): Uche Osostule (Onome) Kate Henshaw Stella Damascus Wale Macaulay Maureen Iweka Rita Dominic Gloria Anozie Kunle Bamtefa Clarion Chukwura (Clarion of the 90s) Lanre Balogun (probably should be on the same list as Liz) this lady from the East or South South who acted in Hostages (the abused wife of Alhaji in Keeping Faith that went to Funlola's office) RMD Shola Shobowale (she probably should be in the same list as Liz too, I am not sure). Too good to be on any list (A+++): Toun Oni Bukky Ajayi Mama Rainbow Liz Benson Ngozi Nwosu Funmi Martins Remi Abiola Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey Joke Silva A listers: Omotola J E Nse Ikpe Etim Dakore Egbuson Mercy Aigbe Ramsey Noah Olu Jacobs A- List (Acting wise, these A- listers are A to A+, but I wanted to keep the two lists classy) Mercy Johnson Ayo Adesanya Eucharia Anunobi With Genny in the midst (B listers): Funlola Aofiyebi (The only reason Funlola is here is, although she is a good actress, I "think" the way she talks is played up/fake. Especially in Violated. If I am wrong, then she belongs with Bimbo and co) Patience Ozokwor Chioma Chukwuka Charion Chukwura (post 90s) Out of Bounds - "Don't mess with my Tutu", as said by Bimbo Akintola, remains a classic line. And the Gardener? I should scavenge the internet for a copy of that! That was when Nollywood made movies, not churn out garbage! The problem that I see with a lot of the quality actors in Nigeria is that they relied solely on their skills, which should be a good thing, but not in Nigeria where sex and fakeness sells (case in point: Tonto Dike is described as an A-lister in some publications!!! Tonto what Is she an actress? Even Ini Edo, a D- Lister, is a better actress). Maybe if they all came together to create quality movies, slowly but surely, love of their work will be renewed, and the mediocre "actors" will either be forced to step up their game or phase out. Notice the ones that get featured by the top notch producers. Tade Ogidan movies are rare, but you can be sure that these golden fishes are going to be fished out to take up roles in them. Same goes for Ego Boyo's movies.
