A Nigerian lady, Blessing Dike, is full of thanks to God today as she remembers the near death accident she was involved in back in 2016 that claimed the lives of every other passenger in the bus except hers.

In a tweet posted this morning, Blessing said doctors told her that she would never be able to walk with her right leg that was badly damaged in the accident. She is however thankfully that against all odds, she can now walk well.

''Had an accident in 2016, I was the only survivor, right leg was badly damaged, it was almost amputated. Doctors said I will never be able to walk normal again, no shoes or sandals only slippers. Look at me now OLUWATOBILOBA!!! Forever grateful'' she wrote

A 45-year-old man, Osita Ezuruike, on Tuesday, committed suicide at Umudafa, Awo Mbieri in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

It was gathered that the deceased’s neighbours alerted the police after he found him hanging from the roof of his house.

The Police is yet to ascertain why the deceased committed suicide, however, sources in the community claimed that he expressed frustration with life over the lockdown declared by the state government to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Spokesperson of the state Police Command Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident said that Ezuruike’s corpse had been taken to a morgue.

“On April 27, acting on a report, operatives of the Divisional Police headquarters in Mbieri moved to Umudafa, Awo Mbieri, Mbaitoli LGA, in a house belonging to one Osita Ezuruike, 45, and met the lifeless body of the said Osita hanging. The reason for taking his own life could not be ascertained. However, the corpse has been removed to the morgue, while an investigation into the incident has commenced.” Ikeokwu said.

COVID-19 reopening of state secretariat: Makinde inspects Akufo farm settlement, to transform settlement into agric estate to impact state economy

Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde has hinted on plans to transform the Akufo farm settlement into an agricultural estate that would positively impact the state economy.

The Governor stated this in an interview shortly after an inspection tour of the facility along Ibadan Eruwa road, Ibadan.

The Governor said that the state government was not relenting in aggregating all comparative advantages in agriculture to advance the state in line with the four cardinal thrust of his government.

Governor Makinde further explained that though a private farm has been using the facility to produce tomato and pepper through a green house farming approach, but the state government would incorporate other stake holders to harness benefit for the local market and export.

Correspondent David Bello reports that the inspection tour to the farm was part of the Governor's itenerary following the reopening of the state secretariat after COVID-19 break.

On Saturday April 25th, gunmen stormed the home of a popular cleric, Sheik Taofeeq Akeugbagold, and abducted his set of twins.

In a video posted online, their distraught mum who couldn't hold back tears, said she was barren for 12 years before she welcomed her babies. She pleaded with the abductors to have mercy on her and release her children to her.

Nigerian movie lovers have reacted to the eye-popping photo of actress, Omoni Oboli who was seen locking lips with super actor, Richard Mofe Damijo better known as RMD in a movie.

Police in Yobe state have arrested a 22-year-old man for cutting off the hand of his wife from the wrist.

The man identified as Baari Bacha reportedly attacked his wife Halima Bulama after she disobeyed his orders not to attend a friend's ceremony in Damaturu.

Confirming his arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Yobe state Command, Dungus Abdulkarim, said in a statement that Bacha became furious after a heated argument with his wife, and then used a cutlass to perpetrate the act.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that on April 14, the victim, Halima Bulama (20), sought permission from her husband to attend an event. But, he refused to grant her request and she left for the event after the husband had gone out.

“When he came back, he asked of her whereabouts and was told that she had gone for the event. He went to look for her in the neighbourhood and couldn’t find her there.

He proceeded to her parent’s house and found her there,” he stated.

The police spokesman said the victim’s brothers persuaded her to follow her husband home, but she refused and her action ignited an argument between herself and her husband.

According to Dungus, the woman's husband, out of provocation caused his by wife’s action, used a cutlass he had carried from home and amputated her hand in the presence of her brothers

The PPRO also disclosed that the victim is currently receiving treatment in the hospital and the suspect will be charged to court after investigation is completed.

Some documents and furniture were destroyed by fire on Friday at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.

This followed an electrical fault at the office of the Director of Electoral and Party Monitoring, leading to a fire outbreak.

Officials of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service were swiftly deployed at the INEC office to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.

INEC’s National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education, Mr Festus Okoye, insisted that the incident was a minimal one.

He added that no sensitive document was lost to the inferno.

According to reports, the fire which began from the building behind the Press Centre inside the commission's compound, started at about 12 noon today.
